The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Wen Pinghan always sensed Zhao Xiaojing’s hostility, which she never bothered to hide, and the source of this hostility was Xie Zhifei.
So when Xie Zhifei suggested the three of them take a selfie, except for Xie Zhifei, the other two forced fake smiles while their hearts weren’t in it.
As soon as Xie Zhifei sent the photo to them, Zhao Xiaojing complained, “You didn’t even edit it. Why’d you send it like that?”
“My skills suck. Want to try?” Xie Zhifei said.
“Fine, I’ll do it,” Zhao Xiaojing edited the photo for a while and sent it to Xie Zhifei.
Wen Pinghan glanced at her screen discreetly and saw that, sure enough, Zhao Xiaojing deliberately left her out.
Zhao Xiaojing shot her a smug look.
“Wow, Sister, you’re so gorgeous you don’t even need editing,” Xie Zhifei zoomed in on the photo and said enviously, “You look so pretty, Sister!”
Wen Pinghan: “…”
Zhao Xiaojing: …Why do I suddenly feel betrayed?
While the three played with selfies, they completely ignored the game on the court. The two men playing tennis lost interest, rallied for a bit, and walked to the sidelines for water.
“What are you guys doing?” Lifeng asked.
“Taking selfies,” Zhao Xiaojing said disdainfully, then looked up and asked, “How much longer are you playing? I’m tired.”
Lifeng looked at Gu Zhizhang, who seized the chance to say, “Ms. Wen, why don’t you take his spot?”
Wen Pinghan froze, thinking of how to politely decline, when Xie Zhifei innocently asked, “But Sister came to play with Lifeng. If he’s leaving, why would she stay?”
Wen Pinghan: Good question!
Gu Zhizhang awkwardly glanced at Lifeng and said, “Play a bit more.”
Lifeng looked at Zhao Xiaojing for her opinion. Zhao Xiaojing glanced at Xie Zhifei, who gave her a look, and she said, “Fine, let’s call it a day!”
Gu Zhizhang: “…”
As they got up to pack and leave, Gu Zhizhang made one last attempt, “Zhifei, play a round with me.”
Inviting Wen Pinghan directly seemed tough, so he’d keep Zhifei around first—she never refused him.
Zhao Xiaojing reacted faster than anyone, immediately pulling Lifeng to sit, “Zhifei, go for it!”
“…”
Xie Zhifei looked back, saw Wen Pinghan sit down too, probably guessing she wouldn’t refuse Gu Zhizhang, and laughed, “How about a two-on-two?”
“Great,” Gu Zhizhang quickly looked at Lifeng and his girlfriend.
Zhao Xiaojing gave up, “I’m tired. Wen Pinghan, you team up with Lifeng.”
“Let’s go, we’ll crush them!” Lifeng said passionately.
With the two women joining, the men played like they were on fire, eager to show off. Lifeng played for the yawning Zhao Xiaojing, while Gu Zhizhang peacocked, showing off skills for Wen Pinghan.
Xie Zhifei slacked off happily, barely moving since Gu Zhizhang handled every ball. She even had time to cheer sincerely for Wen Pinghan, “Go, Sister!”
Wen Pinghan: …Thanks, I feel mocked.
Her cheering stole all of Gu Zhizhang’s spotlight. Not only Wen Pinghan but even Lifeng got distracted by her, shouting, “Xie Zhifei, you’re cheating!”
“How? I’m just cheering for Sister,” Xie Zhifei said.
Lifeng lost badly, left the court with Wen Pinghan, wiped sweat with a towel, and said, “You two play. I’ll go one-on-one with Wen Pinghan later.”
Wen Pinghan sat on another chair to rest. Xie Zhifei ran over from the other side, pulled a water bottle from her bag, and handed it to her.
Wen Pinghan, panting, looked up at the water, “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” Xie Zhifei smiled.
After a break, Lifeng called Wen Pinghan to play. She fed him balls, and playing with her was relaxing and fun. They rallied back and forth for a while.
Zhao Xiaojing suddenly nudged Xie Zhifei, pointing at Gu Zhizhang.
Xie Zhifei looked over and saw Gu Zhizhang staring at Wen Pinghan. On the court, Wen Pinghan moved agilely, sweat on her face, focused and serious, very captivating.
When they left the court, as Wen Pinghan passed Gu Zhizhang, he offered her a water bottle, looked up at her at a 45-degree angle, and smiled, “You played well.”
“Thanks, but I already have water,” Wen Pinghan smiled slightly, returned to her seat, and drank from her half-empty bottle.
Gu Zhizhang walked over, sat on her other side, clearly eager to chat.
Just as he was about to speak, Xie Zhifei asked, “Brother Gu, want to play a round?”
Gu Zhizhang hesitated, then nodded, “Sure.”
As they took the court, Zhao Xiaojing perked up, crossed her legs, and shouted, “Zhifei, show him what you’ve got!”
Lifeng smiled dismissively, “Her skills probably aren’t as good as Gu Zhizhang’s, right? He was our school’s tennis prince back then.”
“That’s so cringey,” Zhao Xiaojing teased, propped her chin with one hand, looked at Xie Zhifei tying her hair on the court, and smiled helplessly, “Zhifei’s actually really good. She practiced tennis so long just to be Gu Zhizhang’s partner, so she’s never beaten him.”
Lifeng and Wen Pinghan both looked over, realizing they hadn’t seen Xie Zhifei’s true skills in these tennis meetups.
“Here we go,” Gu Zhizhang said and served.
He and Xie Zhifei often played, and she could rally with him for a while but always gave up due to lack of stamina. So he usually didn’t use tricky techniques, just played casually.
They rallied for a bit, and Lifeng, who’d been excited, grew bored, “That’s it?”
“Sigh, guess we’ll never see Zhifei beat him in this lifetime,” Zhao Xiaojing said, resting on his lap, playing with her phone.
They did their own thing, but Wen Pinghan sat upright, watching the game, eyes following the ball. When Xie Zhifei hit a great shot, she couldn’t help shouting, “Nice!”
Gu Zhizhang, hearing this while receiving, got a confidence boost and hit a line-hugging shot. But the figure opposite moved swiftly, reaching the ball first and catching it perfectly.
He froze in shock as the ball passed him.
“Nice!” Wen Pinghan clapped.
Gu Zhizhang picked up the ball and smiled, “Zhifei, you’ve improved a lot.”
“You underestimated me,” Xie Zhifei laughed.
Gu Zhizhang got fired up, eager to show off for Wen Pinghan, and started playing seriously. When he hit a great shot, Wen Pinghan clapped again. He clenched his fist excitedly and shouted, “Wen Pinghan, if I win, will you have dinner with me tonight?”
Xie Zhifei’s smile instantly dropped.
Seeing his smug face, why did it annoy her so much?
“Whoa, why’s Zhifei suddenly radiating killer vibes?” Zhao Xiaojing put away her phone and sat up eagerly.
The next points were thrilling. Zhao Xiaojing kept clapping, Lifeng was stunned, and Wen Pinghan’s eyes sparkled.
Maybe Xie Zhifei’s true skills brought out Gu Zhizhang’s potential. Despite struggling, he kept going, which might make Wen Pinghan think he’s persistent and boost his appeal.
Time to end this match, hehe.
As Zhao Xiaojing cheered for her friend, she noticed Xie Zhifei’s movement pause, and the ball hit her knee.
“Ah!” Xie Zhifei bent over in pain.
Everyone froze, then rushed to check on her. Wen Pinghan, closest, reached her first, supported her, looked at her reddened knee, and asked worriedly, “How is it? Can you walk?”
Gu Zhizhang hurried over, full of apologies, “Sorry, I didn’t control the direction or force well. Let me take you back.”
Zhao Xiaojing’s eyes gleamed, catching her friend’s act, and played along, “Look, look, Zhifei’s hurt so bad. Poor Zhifei’s never been injured. If this leaves a scar, what’ll she do? Gu Zhizhang, hurry and carry her back!”
Gu Zhizhang, even more guilty, opened his arms to carry her, but Xie Zhifei grabbed Wen Pinghan’s arm and said, “It’s not that bad. Sister, help me to the car. There’s a first-aid kit there.”
“Okay,” Wen Pinghan wrapped an arm around her waist, carefully supported her, and, seeing her struggle to walk, squatted in front of her, “Get on.”
“Then I’m really getting on,” Xie Zhifei climbed onto her back.
The three others gaped as the two left. Gu Zhizhang and Lifeng exchanged confused looks.
Zhao Xiaojing was outright dumbfounded—
Wait, what’s this new move? Gu Zhizhang’s still here! You got the wrong person for your couple moment!
