The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
“What nonsense are you talking about now?” After Xie Zhifei steadied herself, she composed her expression and sat down in the car with poise and grace.
“I’m just joking.” Fang Ningshu got into the passenger seat, gave the driver an address, then turned back to look at her. “So it’s just a joke, right?”
“Nonsense!” Xie Zhifei shot back, her face flushed red. “I’m not paying you to spread rumors.”
Fang Ningshu shrugged and turned her head forward again, staring ahead. A moment later, she suddenly blurted out, “Rest assured, President Xie. I’m not a shortsighted person. You have to trust my professional integrity.”
“Shut up!”
Fang Ningshu stayed quiet for a bit, then suddenly turned back and asked, “But President Gu… Gu Zhizhang also likes Wen Pinghan. Are you going to compete with him for her?”
Xie Zhifei grabbed a pillow and pressed it over her face. “You’re really talkative today!”
The car finally fell silent. After a while, the driver suddenly asked timidly, “Are President Xie and Miss Wen in that kind of relationship? Then when I take Miss Wen somewhere in the future—”
“Ah—!” Xie Zhifei broke down.
Fang Ningshu lowered her head and stifled her laughter.
When they played golf with President Wang, Xie Zhifei followed Fang Ningshu’s instructions and pretended to be a complete novice. Under President Wang’s guidance, she made a few shots, and President Wang was delighted, praising her quick learning.
Xie Zhifei took the opportunity to compliment his teaching skills. The two chatted amiably, and the business talk came naturally.
The conversation continued at the dinner table. President Wang was very satisfied with the seafood feast and showed clear interest in cooperating.
After the meal, Xie Zhifei took out a gift and smiled. “I heard that Mrs. Wang has an elegant demeanor, so when I saw this pearl necklace, I thought it suited her perfectly. Please convey my regards to her personally, President Wang.”
President Wang laughed heartily. “Oh my, Xie Hongxu’s daughter is no ordinary girl. Tell you what—come to the company next Tuesday, and we’ll discuss the cooperation properly.”
“Great, I’ll definitely be there,” Xie Zhifei said with a smile.
After dinner, the two said their goodbyes. Fang Ningshu drove her home before leaving.
As soon as Xie Zhifei stepped into the living room, a woman emerged from the bathroom wearing a bathrobe and drying her hair.
“You’re back.” Zhao Xiaojing said.
“Why did you come over without a word? Has something happened at home again?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Yeah, my mom insists that I build a relationship with Gu Zhizhang!” Zhao Xiaojing had not told anyone else about Xie Zhifei’s feelings for Gu Zhizhang, so she could only use Li Feng as a shield. “I told her that I’m madly in love with Li Feng, Gu Zhizhang’s buddy, so there’s no way with Gu Zhizhang.”
“And then?”
“Then she looked into Li Feng’s family background and started urging me to get married. It’s so annoying!” Zhao Xiaojing stamped her foot in frustration.
Xie Zhifei smiled and turned toward the study on the second floor. “Get yourself settled and rest. I have some work to handle.”
Not long after, Zhao Xiaojing wandered into the study with a face mask on. She first lingered in front of the bookshelves for a while, then stood by the window admiring the night view. Seeing Xie Zhifei still typing away at the computer, she couldn’t help her curiosity and sidled up to peer at the screen. “What are you doing?”
“I met a big client today, and the deal is almost sealed, so I’m having my team prepare,” Xie Zhifei said.
Zhao Xiaojing watched her send messages to several employees in sequence, all clear and to the point. She looked at Xie Zhifei’s face in surprise and hesitated for a long moment before saying, “Are you still the Xie Zhifei I know?”
Xie Zhifei’s fingers paused. She looked up at her, a faint smile appearing in her eyes.
“We agreed you’d spend your life freeloading, waiting around, and chasing men, but instead, you’ve built a thriving career?” Zhao Xiaojing pursed her lips. “I thought you were just going to the company to slack off. I didn’t realize you went there with real ambition. And when exactly did you secretly evolve into someone so capable without even telling me?”
Xie Zhifei laughed. “Well, I had nothing else to do. Freeloading and waiting around all day got boring, and I couldn’t even chase men, so I threw myself into business. At least it gives this empty heart somewhere to settle.”
Zhao Xiaojing sighed. “It really is pretty empty. Maybe… I should find something to do myself?”
“Sure.” Xie Zhifei encouraged her.
“But what? I don’t know how to do anything.”
“Take your time thinking about it. Try things boldly.” Xie Zhifei said. “Your starting point is already way ahead of most people, so don’t overthink it. Do whatever you want.”
“Okay. I’ll tag along to your company tomorrow to play around and pick up some tips?”
“No problem, as long as you don’t distract anyone from their work.”
“Don’t worry!”
The next day, Xie Zhifei brought Zhao Xiaojing to the company and let her hang out in the office.
Zhao Xiaojing sat on the sofa, watching the secretaries come and go. When she saw Fang Ningshu, her jaw nearly dropped in shock.
After Fang Ningshu left the office, she asked in surprise, “She, she she she—isn’t she one of Gu Zhizhang’s people? How did she end up working for you?”
“You’re really out of the loop on business. She’s been with me for almost a month,” Xie Zhifei said.
“Damn, what the hell happened?!” Zhao Xiaojing’s gossip soul ignited once more.
“Nothing much. I just saw she had good skills, so I poached her.”
“Sigh, I thought you planned to use Fang Ningshu to get to Gu Zhizhang. After all, she has access to tons of info and is a big favorite in front of him.” Zhao Xiaojing said.
Xie Zhifei paused, then looked up seriously. “Jing.”
“Yeah?”
“Let me reiterate: I really don’t like Gu Zhizhang anymore.”
“Oh.”
“That’s your reaction?”
“You’ve said this at least ten times. Every time, you swear you’re over him, but the second you see another woman chasing him, you get all sour and possessive, turning into a total fighter. So I just listen to it as entertainment.” Zhao Xiaojing teased.
“This time, absolutely, it’s real!” Xie Zhifei was practically swearing on the spot.
“Uh-huh, keep going. I’m listening.” Zhao Xiaojing nodded dismissively.
Xie Zhifei: “…”
Just then, Fang Ningshu returned to the office with several files in hand and set them on the desk. Xie Zhifei immediately said, “Secretary Fang, tell her—don’t I have zero interest in Gu Zhizhang?”
“Huh?” Fang Ningshu looked puzzled. “When did that happen?”
Xie Zhifei: “…”
“I’ve poached you already—doesn’t that prove I don’t like him anymore?!” Xie Zhifei raised her voice.
“I thought you just wanted to pump me for info on him?”
Xie Zhifei: “”
“See? Everyone thinks that.” Zhao Xiaojing gloated.
“No, that’s not it at all!” Xie Zhifei said with a headache. “It’s exactly because I don’t like him anymore that I wanted to steal his top assistant for myself. Otherwise, I’d have left you with him.”
Zhao Xiaojing: “Really? I don’t buy it.”
Xie Zhifei looked up at Secretary Fang. “Aren’t you supposed to be all-capable? Figure out a way to make her believe this fact!”
“The solution is actually simple.” Fang Ningshu said breezily. “You just need to like someone else.”
“Right, if you showed even a little interest in someone else, I wouldn’t keep doubting that you’re hung up on Gu Zhizhang.” Zhao Xiaojing laughed. “As the old saying goes, the fastest way to forget someone is to replace them with another!”
“Go on, where am I supposed to suddenly find someone to like? You can’t just decide to like someone on a whim.” Xie Zhifei waved her hand, not wanting to chat idly with them anymore, and turned to complain to Wen Pinghan.
Xie Zhifei: [Wuwu, Zhao Xiaojing and Fang Ningshu are teaming up to bully me.]
Wen Pinghan: [Why are they bullying you?]
Xie Zhifei: [I told them I don’t like Gu Zhizhang anymore, but they don’t believe me. They even want me to find someone new to like to prove I’m over him for real. Big Sis is the best—when I say it to you, you believe me right away.]
Wen Pinghan: [.]
Wen Pinghan: [So you didn’t trick me, right? You really don’t like Gu Zhizhang anymore, do you?]
Xie Zhifei: [Wuwuwuwu Big Sis, you’re bullying me too QAQ]
Wen Pinghan: [No, I believe you.]
Xie Zhifei: [Really?]
Wen Pinghan: [Really really. Don’t be mad.]
Xie Zhifei: [Wuwu, I want Big Sis hugs T^T]
Wen Pinghan: [[Hug][Hug][Hug]]
Xie Zhifei: [[Shy]]
Wen Pinghan: [[Rose]]
Xie Zhifei: [[Kiss]]
“Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee.”
Zhao Xiaojing jumped at her creepy laughter, rubbed her arms, and saw her clutching her phone with a face about to split from grinning. She turned to Fang Ningshu. “What’s wrong with her?”
“Either possessed or flirting.” Fang Ningshu said.
“Flirting? With who?!” Zhao Xiaojing exclaimed. “Not Gu Zhizhang, is it?”
Fang Ningshu eyed her for a moment. “Doesn’t look like it.”
“Did she find someone who makes her heart race that fast?” Zhao Xiaojing shouted. “Afei, who are you chatting with?”
“Big Sis.” Xie Zhifei said without looking up.
“Which Big Sis?”
“Of course Wen Pinghan. Who else?”
“…” Zhao Xiaojing rolled her eyes. “You really treat her like a real sister, huh? Calling her Big Sis all the time, so affectionate. How come I never hear you call me Big Sis?”
Xie Zhifei: “Because you’re half a year younger than me.”
“Hmph.”
At lunchtime, Zhao Xiaojing graciously joined Xie Zhifei for a cafeteria meal and commented, “It’s not even as good as our school cafeteria.”
“How much is your annual tuition? How much are the salaries here? Can they compare?” Xie Zhifei said amused.
Zhao Xiaojing tsked, then suddenly spotted Wen Pinghan downstairs. She raised her hand to wave, but Xie Zhifei stopped her.
“What? I just wanted her to join us for lunch. I wouldn’t do anything to her.” Zhao Xiaojing said.
“I know. I’ll call her. Don’t shout—she doesn’t want others knowing we’re close, to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.” Xie Zhifei said as she dialed Wen Pinghan and spoke a few sneaky words.
Soon, Wen Pinghan arrived at their private room with a tray. With only one seat left at the four-person table, she had to sit next to Zhao Xiaojing, facing Fang Ningshu.
“Long time no see. Last time was at my birthday party, right?” Zhao Xiaojing said.
“Yeah, long time no see.” Wen Pinghan nodded and glanced at Xie Zhifei.
Xie Zhifei looked at the food on her tray and picked up a piece of braised pork to put on it.
Wen Pinghan picked it up and ate the braised pork with her head down.
“By the way, I used the perfume you gave me. Thanks.” Zhao Xiaojing said.
Wen Pinghan smiled faintly. “You’re welcome.”
“How was it? Did you like the scent?” Xie Zhifei immediately followed up.
“It’s okay, but it could be a bit lighter.” Zhao Xiaojing said.
“You don’t know sh1t.” Xie Zhifei rolled her eyes and turned right to Wen Pinghan. “Big Sis, ignore her. She has no gratitude at all. If someone gave me something, I definitely wouldn’t nitpick~”
“?” Zhao Xiaojing looked at her puzzled. “Are you taking a veiled shot at me here?”
“What, you get mad if I say a couple things about you?” Xie Zhifei turned her head to complain again. “She gets mad so easily. You’re so nice to her—why does she still get mad? Not like me, totally heartless~”
Wen Pinghan: “…”
Fang Ningshu: “…”
Zhao Xiaojing: “???”
Zhao Xiaojing inexplicably felt that tone was way too familiar. It took her a good while to remember—this was exactly those green tea tactics she used against Gu Zhizhang!?
