The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 55
Chapter 55
On Saturday morning, Wen Pinghan received an invitation from Xie Zhifei, who asked her to go play tennis together in the afternoon.
After hanging up the phone, Wen Pinghan went into her room and started getting ready. She picked out clothes for a long time and spent most of the day doing her makeup. When she looked in the mirror and saw someone who looked as if she were about to attend a ball, she sighed, removed the makeup, and then watched videos from beauty bloggers to see how to create a refined no-makeup look!
In the end, she just applied some base makeup and lipstick, grabbed her sportswear, and headed out.
When she arrived at the tennis court, she saw that Xie Zhifei was already inside playing with the ball machine.
She stood outside the net and watched for a while, then could not help but take out her phone to record a video.
When Xie Zhifei finished a round and turned around, she discovered that Wen Pinghan had arrived. She smiled and walked over, picked up the towel and water from the bench along the way, walked up to her, and asked while wiping her sweat, “When did you get here?”
“I just arrived not long ago.” Wen Pinghan put her phone away.
“Go change your clothes quickly. I’ll wait for you here.” Xie Zhifei blinked.
“Okay.” Wen Pinghan picked up her sports bag and went to the changing room, where she smiled silently. If she was not mistaken, the racket and shoes that Xie Zhifei used were exactly the gifts she had given her.
After a while, Wen Pinghan returned to the court. She warmed up while watching Xie Zhifei practice.
“Sister, come on.” Xie Zhifei called out.
Wen Pinghan gripped her racket and stepped onto the court.
She had learned tennis in her university club, which was the most cost-effective way to learn. Her seniors taught her diligently because she was so hardworking. During that time, whenever she had free time, she stayed on the court practicing until she had worn out her seniors and only then would she stop.
It was not really out of love that she worked so hard; at the time, she purely wanted to learn it quickly so she could substitute teach classes. Each session earned her quite a bit, more than tutoring did.
And now, she felt very grateful that she had joined the tennis club back then and practiced well; otherwise, she really could not have played with Xie Zhifei.
The ball flew over at a very tricky angle. Wen Pinghan picked it up, panted as she looked at the person across from her, and thought that Xie Zhifei had already played for so long before she arrived, yet her stamina was still so good, and she looked full of energy.
“Aren’t you tired?” Wen Pinghan asked.
“I am tired, but I’m even more excited.” Xie Zhifei walked up to the net to chat with her. “This is our first real match against each other!”
“Yeah, now that you mention it, I’m getting motivated again. Let’s go.” Wen Pinghan said.
The two played back and forth for more than an hour before they sat down on the bench to rest.
“Didn’t you invite Zhao Xiaojing and the others?” Wen Pinghan looked around and asked.
“What, does Sister want me to call all of them over?”
“No, it’s just that I’m a bit unaccustomed to it. Every time I ran into you here before, you were always with a group of people.” Wen Pinghan wiped her sweat and took the water that Xie Zhifei handed her.
“Before, they were the ones who called me to come.” Xie Zhifei propped her hands on the bench, straightened her legs, shook her ankles, and said with a beaming smile, “This is the first time I’m wearing these shoes. I have to let you take a look.”
“Just to see the shoes?” Wen Pinghan asked with a laugh.
Of course not; mainly, she wanted to go on a date! Just the two of them!
The two played a bit more, then went to shower. Afterward, they drove to find something to eat.
“You didn’t bring a driver either?” Wen Pinghan asked in surprise as she looked at the person in the driver’s seat.
“Yeah, I figured since it’s just the two of us, we don’t need a driver to pick us up and drop us off. As long as we don’t drink in the evening, it’ll be fine. What do you think?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Yeah, that’s pretty good.” Wen Pinghan’s lips curved up.
“There’s snacks in the glove compartment.”
Wen Pinghan opened it and took a look. Inside were chocolates, small biscuits, and a lollipop. She smiled and said, “Did you buy these?”
Xie Zhifei glanced over quickly: “No.”
“Then where did they come from?”
Xie Zhifei thought for a long time before she said, “It must be Wang Wan. This morning, she had the driver take her out for a trip, saying she was going to a classmate gathering.”
Wen Pinghan put the lollipop back and asked casually, “Has your relationship with her eased up a bit?”
“A little, I guess. Mainly, she’s going to that gathering, and if she can run into a few people willing to take her in, I’ll be free.” Xie Zhifei said.
“How about… letting her come stay with me?”
“What?” Xie Zhifei glanced at her sharply, then quickly looked ahead again. Her heart raced up and down, and after a long pause, she finally managed to say, “Your place is just a one-bedroom with a living room. Wouldn’t that mean we’d have to sleep together?”
“I can sleep in the living room.”
“Why are you suddenly being so nice to her?”
“I’m just afraid she’ll bother you.”
“It’s fine. My place is big; she’s not enough to bother me.” Xie Zhifei looked out the window and asked, “Buffet?”
“Sure.”
The car pulled over and slowly drove into the entrance of a five-star hotel. After handing the car to the valet, Xie Zhifei took Wen Pinghan’s hand and went to the buffet restaurant on the third floor.
During the meal, Xie Zhifei received a call from Zhao Xiaojing, who invited her to have dinner together.
“No need; we’re already eating.” Xie Zhifei said as she looked at Wen Pinghan.
“You’re eating pretty early. All right, I was going to talk to you about becoming a banquet planner anyway.” Zhao Xiaojing said.
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“After you all mentioned it last time, I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. I still want to give it a try.” Zhao Xiaojing said.
“Then give it a try.”
“Okay, then I’ll go get busy. Bye~ Mwah~”
That voice was so soft and sweet. Even from a meter away, Wen Pinghan could hear it. She lifted her eyes and glanced at Xie Zhifei, then lowered her head and continued eating as if nothing had happened. In her mind, she wondered how naturally she needed to act to do these things without making the other person suspicious or disgusted.
She thought about it for a long time… No, she could not be coquettish at all. Sigh.
“Sister, did you hear that just now?” After hanging up, Xie Zhifei asked.
“I heard a bit.”
“Xiaojing said she’s going to try being a planner. I hope she succeeds.” Xie Zhifei said sincerely.
After eating, they strolled around the street for a while and even watched a movie. Xie Zhifei secretly felt smug; the date package was complete!
After dropping her off downstairs, Xie Zhifei checked the time and said, “I won’t go up. Good night, Sister.”
“Yeah, good night. Drive safely.” Wen Pinghan waved her hand and watched the car leave before she turned around and went back to her room, her steps light.
After the elevator doors closed, it reflected her current expression, with a smile that overflowed.
She coughed once, trying to make herself smile less gleefully, but in the end, she failed.
After resting at home for a while, she discovered there was no food stocked at home, so she went downstairs to the nearby supermarket. As she walked past the bus stop with her bag, a taxi suddenly pulled up beside her. A girl hurried out of the car and dashed straight to a big tree, where she vomited with a “wah” sound.
Wen Pinghan felt it looked somewhat familiar, so she walked closer and looked a few times before she said in surprise, “Wang Wan?”
Wang Wan turned her head to glance at her, then continued to vomit a few more times.
“Drink some water.” Wen Pinghan handed her a bottle of water.
Wang Wan looked at it a few times but still took it. After rinsing her mouth, she walked to the side, slowly squatted down, took a long time to recover, and then said dully, “Thanks.”
“Can you get back on your own?”
Wang Wan hugged her knees with both hands, nodded, but made no other move.
“Should I call a car for you?”
“No need to worry about me…”
“Okay.” Wen Pinghan walked straight ahead. When she reached the entrance of the neighborhood, she looked back and saw that the girl was still squatting there like a stone.
She stopped in place and watched for a while until two men with yellow hair approached Wang Wan and started chatting her up. Only then did she sigh, stride over, pull Wang Wan up, and look at the two men with an unfriendly expression: “Excuse me, please move.”
The two men backed away awkwardly.
“Where’s your home?” Wen Pinghan helped her to the roadside and prepared to call a taxi for her.
“Home?” Wang Wan laughed twice. “Where would I have a home?”
Wen Pinghan looked at her.
“I have no home. I have no home.” Wang Wan kept shaking her head, and suddenly a tear fell from her eye, wetting her eyelashes.
Wen Pinghan had no choice. She looked around and pointed to the hotel diagonally across the street: “Then how about going to the hotel first?”
“No, I’m not going to a hotel!” Wang Wan suddenly trembled as if she had been stimulated. Her arms shook. “Don’t hit me, please, don’t hit me!”
The passersby on the street all looked over at them. Wen Pinghan had no choice but to take her home first.
“Who’s going to hit you?” Wen Pinghan stood in front of the sofa and asked.
“No, don’t hit me.” Wang Wan started crying, completely immersed in her own world. She could not even distinguish the person in front of her at all. She hugged the pillow tightly. “I’m sorry, I was wrong. Mom, please don’t hit me anymore…”
Wen Pinghan was slightly surprised and called Xie Zhifei: “Hey, have you gotten home?”
“I just arrived!”
The bright voice entered her ears, and Wen Pinghan’s mood improved a bit. A smile returned to her face: “That’s good. By the way, Wang Wan is at my place.”
“What?! How did she end up at your place?”
“She got drunk, and I ran into her.” Wen Pinghan looked back at the person on the sofa who was about to cry herself silly and asked, “She’s keep saying drunken nonsense and absolutely refuses to go to a hotel. She seems really scared of hotels and says her mom hits her. Is that true?”
“Huh? That happened? I’m not too sure. How about this: I’ll go ask Fang Ningshu. Wait a minute.” Xie Zhifei really had not seen such a plot in the original text; after all, she was just a side character, and it was impossible to give readers too many details about her.
She called Fang Ningshu. After asking, Fang Ningshu was also surprised: “That happened?”
“You didn’t know either?”
“Yeah, when I met her, she was already the little princess of the Gu family, looking carefree with a bunch of weird temper.”
“Okay, I’ll ask around some more.” Xie Zhifei then called Gu Zhizhang.
After Gu Zhizhang heard, he was silent for a long time before he sighed and said, “Yes, my aunt abused her from a young age. Her mother developed postpartum depression after giving birth and felt like the whole family only cared about the child, so she turned her resentment onto Wanwan, and her control was extremely strong. Whenever Wanwan did anything not to her liking, she would take her to a hotel and beat her. She never did it at home, so outsiders had no idea.”
Xie Zhifei was so shocked that she could not speak.
“After my uncle passed away, my mom accidentally saw the injuries on her at the funeral and found out about these things, so she took custody of Wanwan from my aunt.”
“So she’d rather stay at my place than go to a hotel?”
“Yes, she never dared to stay in a hotel alone.” Gu Zhizhang rubbed his brow. “Last time, I was too angry and handed her over to you all without following up. How about this: tell her I’m not mad anymore and ask her to come back and live here.”
After Xie Zhifei told Fang Ningshu and Wen Pinghan respectively, what she got in return was a moment of silence from both.
Clearly, no one could see the elements of pretense in her arrogant personality.
“Drink some honey water.” Wen Pinghan waited until Wang Wan had cried enough and placed a cup of water on the coffee table, but the other party seemed to be dozing off in a daze.
The next day, Wang Wan raised her hand to block the light from outside. As soon as she turned over, she thudded to the floor.
“Ah—!”
“What’s wrong?” Wen Pinghan came out of the kitchen and saw her rubbing her butt and grimacing as she stood up. She could not help but laugh a little. “Serves you right.”
“You… Where is this? How am I here?!” Wang Wan looked at this unfamiliar small apartment in horror.
“This is my home. You got drunk last night. Don’t you remember anything after that?”
Wang Wan tried hard to recall but could only remember a few vague fragments: one was Wen Pinghan handing her water and helping her chase away a few men with bad intentions, and then she was hugging a pillow and crying wildly. As for why she cried, she did not remember, but anyway, she often cried.
“If you can’t remember, then don’t think about it. Go wash your face.” Wen Pinghan said.
Wang Wan dragged her heavy steps into the bathroom, and there was another scream: “Ah—!”
She looked at the big flowery face in the mirror and was scared half to death. She quickly washed her face clean. When she came out, she found that breakfast was already set on the table.
“Just eat something casual.” Wen Pinghan rolled an egg and started eating first.
Wang Wan walked over awkwardly, took a sip of water, then picked up the other egg. She lowered her head to peel the shell and suddenly said, “Thanks. I’ll remember this favor.”
“By the way, your cousin said he’s not mad at you anymore and wants you to go back home to live.” Wen Pinghan said.
“I’m not going back.”
“Why?”
“He can kick me out for a woman this time, and he can do the same next time. That place isn’t really my home after all.” Wang Wan said.
“Anyway, you’re not staying long-term. Aren’t you still going abroad to study? Why act up now? Do you think you’re being especially cool and badass?”
Wang Wan nearly choked on the egg, drank a few sips of water to recover, glanced at her several times, and felt a bit embarrassed since her thoughts had been seen through. She stubbornly said, “None of your business.”
“Is it that every time you don’t know how to respond or someone cares about you, you only know how to say that?”
Wang Wan choked again: “None of your business!”
“Yeah, and you can use different tones too.”
“…”
Wang Wan picked up a steamed bun again and asked, “Just eating dry? No side dishes?”
“No, this is the condition. Take it or leave it.”
“Tsk.” Wang Wan pursed her lips in disdain but still started eating. She mumbled, “With your little apartment and big steamed buns, they wouldn’t catch my aunt’s eye. Since you helped me, I can give you a tip: my aunt likes mature, steady, and charming women. Just lean that way, and at least she’ll give you a boost in impression points.”
Wen Pinghan looked her up and down a few times and suddenly asked, “So that’s why you dress so maturely?”
“…None of your business!!” Wang Wan said in annoyance and embarrassment.
“My business is none of yours either. I’m not interested in your so-called wealthy families at all. I don’t care what the fvck she likes.”
“Why are you cursing?”
“Her fucking mom.”
“Oh.”
Wang Wan took a sip of milk and said, “Although the breakfast here is way worse than at Xie Zhifei’s place, it’s barely acceptable. You know, since I came back this time, I found that everyone has changed so much. Not to mention my brother and Shushu-jie, even Xie Zhifei has suddenly become like a different person. They say people’s growth happens in just one instant. Which instant do you think it was for her?”
But Wen Pinghan asked, “What was she like before?”
“Very annoying. Whenever she had time, she would run off to find my brother and secretly target his pursuers. I don’t even want to talk about her crappy tactics. Although my brother couldn’t see it, I saw it crystal clear. But now she doesn’t cling to my brother at all, as if she suddenly woke up and realized she couldn’t hang from one tree.” As Wang Wan spoke, she suddenly became gossipy, deliberately lowered her voice, and said, “Moreover, I discovered she seems to like someone else.”
A ripple rose in Wen Pinghan’s heart, but her face remained calm: “Who?”
“I don’t know. Although I rarely ran into her at home these past few days, every time I did, she was either holding her phone and giggling foolishly or twisting around to answer calls.”
Wen Pinghan carefully thought about the man who appeared most around Xie Zhifei lately. After eliminating possibilities for a long time, she found that only Li Hongyan seemed the most likely.
“Who does she talk to on the phone with?”
“I don’t know. As soon as I get close, she walks away super fast, not wanting me to hear at all. She’s hiding it really deep.” Wang Wan said animatedly.
Wen Pinghan took another egg, peeled it, and handed it to her: “Next time, listen in and see who exactly she’s calling.”
“Why? Are you so gossipy?”
“Yeah.”
“No problem.”
