The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 57
Chapter 57
Xie Zhifei was stunned for a few seconds before she said, “This isn’t something I sent.”
“Ah? It’s not something I bought either? Then this is…” Wen Pinghan seemed to think of something and slapped her forehead. “It must be Wu Qianqian who pulled this stunt.”
“She even sent you this?” Xie Zhifei asked with a twinge of jealousy. “She knows your size too?”
“Who knows what’s up with her.” Wen Pinghan continued to look at the other packages and opened three or four in a row, all of which were daily necessities she had bought herself. In the end, only that large box remained unopened.
“What’s inside this one?” Wen Pinghan asked curiously.
“Open it and see.” Xie Zhifei walked over with a smile.
Wen Pinghan started to unpack the box. After opening it, she found it was some kind of appliance. She took it out and looked it over before noticing the label on it—it was a foot soaking tub.
“Why did you send me this?” Wen Pinghan laughed.
“Your hands and feet are always so cold, aren’t they? I heard that soaking your feet often helps. Soak them every day when you get home—it’s so relaxing.” Xie Zhifei said.
“That does make some sense. Well, thank you then.” Wen Pinghan laughed.
“You’re welcome.” Xie Zhifei grinned, showing her teeth. Then she glanced at the time and said, “I need to head back. I have to get up early tomorrow morning around five.”
“So early? Where are you going?” Wen Pinghan was surprised.
“I’m going on a business trip. The deal isn’t finalized yet. I just came back for a quick visit. I have to head over early tomorrow to meet the client.” Xie Zhifei slung her bag over her shoulder, wrapped the warm scarf around her neck, opened the door, and prepared to leave.
“Wait…” Wen Pinghan called out to her from a few meters away, hesitating as if she wanted to say something but held back. “Why don’t you just stay here tonight? Then you can head out directly in the morning. Otherwise, rushing home now would be too much trouble, and you wouldn’t rest well.”
“C-Can I stay?” Xie Zhifei said, a bit excited.
“Of course. You’ve taken me in before. Unless you look down on my little apartment?”
“How could that be? I just didn’t want to trouble you!” Xie Zhifei immediately closed the door, backed back inside, and grinned foolishly. “Then I’ll stay. I’ll leave bright and early tomorrow.”
“Mm.” Wen Pinghan’s face flushed slightly. She turned and said, “I’ll check the hot water. Get ready for bed soon and rest.”
“Okay.”
While Xie Zhifei took a shower, Wen Pinghan used the new foot soaking tub. She sat in the living room soaking her feet, but her eyes were fixed on the bathroom door. The figure inside was very blurry, but she could still guess what she was doing right now through those subtle movements—rubbing her face with facial cleanser, squeezing out shampoo to wash her hair, lathering body wash to scrub down to her neck, and now she was scrubbing…
Wen Pinghan’s eyelids twitched suddenly. She lowered her head to look at the foot soaking tub. Her toes curled up in the water. The hot water made her face flush red, and sweat began to bead on her neck.
“Sister, does it feel good soaking? Is it easy to use? If it’s not, I can exchange it for you.” Xie Zhifei came out after her shower and saw her soaking her feet.
“It’s good, it’s good. This one is fine.”
Wen Pinghan watched her wearing her own pajamas and inexplicably felt a sense of steadiness, as if this scene had appeared in her dreams a thousand times before. But this time, she finally saw it for real.
After the two lay down on the bed, Wen Pinghan turned off the light and said, “Get some sleep soon. Good night.”
“Good night, sister.” After Xie Zhifei said that, she took hold of her hand.
Wen Pinghan’s fingers stiffened slightly, then slowly relaxed. She lay still, not moving. She didn’t know how much time passed. Only after Xie Zhifei fell asleep did she carefully place a light kiss like a dragonfly skimming water on her forehead.
The next day, before dawn, the alarm started vibrating, and Xie Zhifei woke up startled. Perhaps subconsciously she knew she couldn’t wake Wen Pinghan, so she quickly turned off the alarm. Then she noticed that one of Wen Pinghan’s hands was draped over her.
She held that hand extra carefully and slowly moved it to the side. Not sure what she thought of, she slowly moved it back, bent down to steal a kiss on the back of her hand, then let go like a thief and quietly grinned to herself.
Wen Pinghan heard movement outside, reached over, and sure enough, no one was beside her. She quickly got up and opened the door, just in time to see Xie Zhifei putting on her coat to head out.
“I still woke you up?” Xie Zhifei said apologetically.
“Why didn’t you call me?” Wen Pinghan opened the fridge, took out a bag of bread, and handed it to her. “Eat this on the road to tide you over.”
“Okay, thank you, sister.” Xie Zhifei hurriedly ran to the sofa, picked up the scarf, tied it on happily, and caught a glimpse of that red sexy lingerie on the sofa with the corner of her eye. She buried half her face in the scarf. “I really have to go. You sleep some more. It’s still early.”
“Be safe on the road.” Wen Pinghan saw her into the elevator, then ran back to the balcony to watch her drive away. Only then did she droop her head dejectedly and return to the room. She reached to the side, rolled over, and lay directly in Xie Zhifei’s spot from last night. It still seemed a bit warm.
She let out a very soft sigh of satisfaction.
The next day, Wen Pinghan was busy at the company in the morning when she suddenly received a call from an unknown number. “Hello? Who is this?”
“It’s me, Wang Wan.” The voice on the other end said.
“What do you want?” Wen Pinghan was a bit surprised.
“My aunt is back.” Wang Wan suddenly lowered her voice, covered the phone, and said, “She wants to see you. Are you free tonight?”
“No, I have to work overtime.” Wen Pinghan said bluntly.
“Does this overtime have to be done? That’s my aunt, my cousin’s real mom. Even he has to listen to her. And you’re giving her no face like this?” Wang Wan said in surprise.
“Is this bit of face worth anything? Can she make up for my overtime pay?” Wen Pinghan asked.
“Ah, this… Let me ask her for you?”
Not long after, Wang Wan called again. “I negotiated ten thousand in overtime pay for you. How’s that?”
“…” Wen Pinghan suddenly rather liked the style of these rich people. “Time and place. I’ll be there on time.”
“Fine, but I’ll remind you—because of the overtime pay thing, my aunt’s impression of you is even worse now.” Wang Wan reminded her.
Wen Pinghan thought, what the hell does that have to do with me? As long as I get the overtime pay.
What’s a worker afraid of? We play the fool everywhere anyway.
“Aunt, she agreed to come meet you.” Wang Wan replied to Gu’s mother.
“Hmph. She hasn’t even come through the door yet, and she’s already trying to stand on ceremony with me. I want to see how this pheasant plans to turn into a phoenix.” Gu’s mother snorted disdainfully.
“Do we really not need to tell my cousin about this?” Wang Wan asked carefully.
“No need. That boy’s fallen for it, completely bewitched.” Gu’s mother said again.
Wang Wan saw her full of anger and figured the meeting tonight probably wouldn’t go well for Wen Pinghan. Of course, she was even more worried that Gu’s mother might take other measures against Wen Pinghan.
But on one side was Gu’s mother, who had raised her, and on the other was Wen Pinghan, to whom she owed a favor. What should she do?
She was slow-witted and couldn’t come up with an idea, so she had no choice but to ask Fang Ningshu for help. As soon as she dialed, the other side impatiently asked, “You’d better have something important.”
“I do, I do! I have something—don’t hang up, hear me out!” Wang Wan hurriedly told her about her aunt arranging to meet Wen Pinghan. “Shu-jie, what should I do now?”
“Wait a moment.” Fang Ningshu hung up and reported the matter to Xie Zhifei.
“So soon?” Xie Zhifei knew that Gu’s mother returned every year around New Year’s, but this time she came back not to see friends first but to go straight for Wen Pinghan. It seemed her determination to block Wen Pinghan from marrying into the Gu family was quite strong.
“Do we need to stop them?” Fang Ningshu asked.
“No need. Let them meet. You can stop it this time, but not the next. You’ve dealt with Gu’s mother before—you know what she’s like.” Xie Zhifei said.
“Yeah… Wen Pinghan’s in for it this time.” Fang Ningshu looked at her meaningfully.
Xie Zhifei suddenly smiled. “Who’s in for it remains to be seen.”
Fang Ningshu called Wang Wan back and told her not to interfere.
So that evening, Wang Wan first accompanied Gu’s mother to another villa and waited for Wen Pinghan.
“Hello.” At dusk, Wen Pinghan stepped through the gate in the sunset glow. She saw them sitting in the garden having tea. A dignified and elegant woman sat next to Wang Wan, her face somewhat resembling Gu Zhizhang’s, so she walked over this way.
“You’re Wen Pinghan?” Gu’s mother looked her up and down. The appearance was pretty, but she had lived so many years—what kind of beauty hadn’t she seen? She came to meet without even dressing up, still in work clothes, not dignified at all. Her impression dropped even further.
“Sit.” Wang Wan pointed to the seat across and then poured tea for Gu’s mother and her respectively, sitting quietly to the side.
“Do you know why I called you here?” Gu’s mother asked.
“Just say what you have to say.” Wen Pinghan said.
“You’re not that old, but you sure act high and mighty.” Gu’s mother laughed disdainfully. “What’s your progress with A-Zhang?”
“We’ve progressed to the point where he wants to pursue me, but I’ve rejected him countless times to no avail.” Wen Pinghan said without a ripple.
“What?” Gu’s mother’s eyelid twitched, and her gaze gradually turned stern. “Don’t spout nonsense here. I know my son well. He would never do something so lowly. If there’s anything, it’s that you, you vixen, put a spell on him.”
“…” Wen Pinghan said, “It seems you’ve been abroad too long and don’t know your son as well anymore.”
“Are you lecturing me?!” Gu’s mother slapped the table, startling Wang Wan, who quickly steadied the cup.
“Aunt, don’t get angry. Your body can’t take more anger.” Wang Wan patted her back to help her breathe.
Wen Pinghan looked at Wang Wan in confusion. Wang Wan quietly explained, “Aunt had heart surgery and can’t get upset, so she went abroad to recuperate.”
Wen Pinghan gave it a cold glance and said nothing more.
Gu’s mother took a few breaths before looking at her with lingering anger. “I don’t care what tricks you used to make A-Zhang so infatuated with you, but as long as I’m alive one more day, I won’t let you through the door of our Gu family. Someone abandoned by her parents, who also brought death to her adoptive parents—we wouldn’t dare take her in.”
Wen Pinghan suddenly lifted her head to look at her. Her eyes filled with all sorts of emotions vying to surge forward, gradually reddening her eye sockets.
“Aunt?” Wang Wan was startled too. “What are you saying? When did she… I didn’t tell you about these things, did I?”
“Silly child, with your level, you could at most investigate that she came from a lowly background. How could you find other details? You did investigate those part-time jobs in college quite thoroughly, but I don’t care about that.” Gu’s mother said.
“Then why did you have me investigate? My brother almost cut ties with me over it. Shu-jie hates me now too.” Wang Wan said aggrievedly.
“I wanted to train you a bit, and I was afraid you’d be bored coming back, so I gave you something to do.” Gu’s mother said fondly.
At this moment, Wen Pinghan suddenly laughed.
Gu’s mother looked at her in confusion.
“Since you hate me so much, I really will have to show up in front of you more often.” Wen Pinghan smiled slightly. “How about… I start with Gu Zhizhang? I guess you haven’t told him about us meeting, have you?”
Gu’s mother: “What do you want to do?!”
Wen Pinghan opened her phone, found Gu Zhizhang’s number. “If you upset me one more time, I’ll really make your son go mad for love, all the way to destruction.”
“You dare?!”
“What wouldn’t I dare?” Wen Pinghan directly dialed the number, turned on speaker, and placed it in the middle of the table.
Almost immediately, Gu Zhizhang’s excited voice came through. “Wen Pinghan?! Oh my god, you’re finally calling me first!”
Wen Pinghan smiled at Gu’s mother. “Mr. Gu, I heard your mother is coming back to the country. Can I pay a visit?”
“You want to visit my mother? That’s great! Are you willing to meet her?!” Gu Zhizhang asked delightedly.
“I’m willing to meet her. I just worry she’ll look down on me for my poor background and think I’m not fit to sit at the same table as her.”
“No way. My mom’s old and won’t pick on young people. Besides, it’s me who likes you, not her. You don’t need to mind her opinion.”
Gu’s mother’s face paled. She hurriedly pressed to hang up, breathing heavily as she looked at Wen Pinghan. Wang Wan quickly helped her breathe.
“How dare you!?” Gu’s mother said in uncontrollable anger. “You’re truly a woman with bad intentions!”
Wen Pinghan shrugged indifferently. “Since you sent so many people to investigate me, you should know I’m someone with nothing to her name. As long as I want, I can get your son, your family’s assets. Believe it or not, if I just opened my mouth for this villa right now, Gu Zhizhang would give it to me. I don’t want to go that far, but if you keep insulting me, who knows?”
Gu’s mother didn’t make a sound, glaring at her furiously. After a long moment, she pulled out a card and said, “I know what you want. Take this five hundred thousand and leave my son!”
Wen Pinghan lowered her eyes to look at the card. Hesitating even a second would be disrespectful to the five hundred thousand.
“Fine, deal. I’ll leave him. And you’d better keep him in check too—don’t let him appear in front of me again. If we’re cutting ties, let’s make it thorough.” Wen Pinghan took the card and left gracefully.
Gu’s mother gnashed her teeth as she watched her back. “I’ll naturally keep him in check!”
“That’s for the best then.” Wen Pinghan waved her hand.
As she walked out the gate, she suddenly saw a familiar car parked outside. She looked at it puzzled for two seconds before carefully approaching.
The car door opened. Fang Ningshu got out and stood by the car, inviting her. “Get in.”
Wen Pinghan looked at her in surprise, walked to the car door, and saw Xie Zhifei sitting inside.
“Surprise! Sister, I’m here to pick you up. Did you miss me?” Xie Zhifei opened her arms and smiled at her.
Wen Pinghan was stunned for a long moment before she got into the car and hugged her tightly. Her eyes grew slightly wet. Only after a good while did she hoarsely ask, “How did you come?”
“Of course, to take you home.”
