The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 64
Chapter 64
Xie Zhifei pocketed her phone, and as she turned around, she suddenly noticed a familiar figure. She looked up and called out, “Wang Wan, what are you doing over there?”
“What do you care? Can’t I play on my phone?” Wang Wan replied.
“You can play on your phone, but why are you leaning on the railing? You’re not thinking of doing something drastic, are you?”
Wang Wan gave an awkward smile and immediately stepped back a few paces to return to her seat and continue eating.
Only then did Xie Zhifei go back to join Xie Hongxu for their meal. After they finished eating, Xie Hongxu headed straight back to headquarters.
After Xie Zhifei settled the bill, she saw that Wang Wan had already finished her meal and was sitting at her spot playing a game. She walked over, tapped on the table, and asked, “Are you still staying at Big Sis Han’s place right now?”
“Mm.” Wang Wan nodded.
“Why haven’t you gone back? Hasn’t your aunt contacted you? Didn’t she always like having you by her side the most?” Xie Zhifei asked curiously.
“I lied to her and said I went out to play with Liu Chuan.”
“So you plan to just stay at Big Sis Han’s place? Keep being a turtle hiding in its shell forever?” Xie Zhifei asked again.
Wang Wan exited her game and looked up at her. “Then where else can I go? Shushu definitely won’t take me in, and you won’t either. I just—”
“Who said I won’t? If you really don’t want to go back to the Gu family, move in with me today. My place is spacious—way more comfortable than Big Sis Han’s home, isn’t it?” Xie Zhifei said.
Wang Wan looked at her in surprise. “Did I hear that right? You’re still willing to take me in?”
“Mm.”
“But I don’t want to go. I think it’s pretty good at Wen Pinghan’s place. I can eat some hot meals, and there’s someone to chat with me. The house is a bit small, but how should I put it? It feels different. I think I actually kind of like small houses—they’re warm.” Wang Wan said.
“……” Xie Zhifei gritted her teeth and said, “Her place only has one bed.”
“So I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
Xie Zhifei choked. “Really?”
“Mm. She won’t let me get on the bed.” Wang Wan said.
“Then that’s fine.” The corner of Xie Zhifei’s mouth curved up, and she turned to leave.
“Hey, where are you going?” Wang Wan grabbed her bag and followed.
“To the company.”
“Can I come take a look?”
“Look at what?”
“Look at your company, duh. I’m really curious about Shushu’s current workplace—what’s it like that’s so big it makes her wholeheartedly handle things for you?” Wang Wan said.
“Agree to three conditions, and I’ll take you to see it.”
“What conditions?”
“One, you can only obediently stay in my office. No running around, no causing trouble, and absolutely no affecting anyone else’s work.”
“Okay.”
“Two, you can’t tell Gu Zhizhang anything you see or hear.”
“Sure.”
“Three, don’t make trouble at Big Sis Han’s home. Don’t argue with her, and don’t have any improper thoughts about her.” Xie Zhifei slanted her a glance.
“I don’t quite get it. What does that mean?” Wang Wan pressed. “What do you mean by improper thoughts?”
“It’s best if you don’t know. Come on, let’s go.”
Wang Wan followed her to Qisheng’s branch office. Standing in front of the building, she looked up and muttered, “It’s not that impressive. Not even half the size of the Gu company.”
“This is just one of the branches.” Xie Zhifei smiled and walked through the company doors.
“Good morning, President Xie.”
“President Xie.”
“President Xie.”
The employees they passed all nodded in greeting. Xie Zhifei nodded back and stepped into the elevator, with Wang Wan following close behind. Her eyes widened slightly. “You look so cool.”
“I smiled at them too. Didn’t you see?”
Wang Wan grinned. “You’re completely different from before. It’s an improvement that you’re not looking down your nose at them anymore.”
Xie Zhifei smiled helplessly. After the elevator doors opened, she strode toward her office but suddenly stopped. She turned and walked to the office next door, knocked on the door, and said, “Manager Wen, how are you adapting to the new day of work?”
Wang Wan turned her head and saw Wen Pinghan lift her head from in front of her computer screen. She subconsciously waved at her, and Wen Pinghan immediately stood up and walked over. Just as she was about to squeeze in, Xie Zhifei firmly blocked her way.
“President Xie, you’re back.” Wen Pinghan stood at the door, gazing at Xie Zhifei with a full smile.
“Hello, I’m here too.” Wang Wan desperately squeezed her head in to say hi.
“I’m adapting pretty well. Secretary Fang explained everything in great detail. It’s just that I haven’t seen President Xie, so I always felt a little worried about it.” Wen Pinghan kept her gaze straight ahead, her eyes holding only Xie Zhifei’s reflection.
Wang Wan: “Hello?”
Xie Zhifei’s heart warmed, and a bit of red colored her face. She couldn’t hold back her smile at all. “Sorry to trouble Manager Wen with your concern. I’m back now, so you can relax.”
“Got it. Then I’ll go back to work.”
“Mm.”
Wang Wan waited for more than a minute before these two, who had been smiling at each other, finally stepped back at the same time and returned to their respective workstations.
“Am I invisible or something?” Wang Wan stood there in a daze. Just then, she spotted Fang Ningshu approaching and waved to say hi. “Hello?”
Fang Ningshu glanced at her, then said to the person in the office, “Wen Pinghan, meeting in ten minutes.”
“Okay.”
Wang Wan: ……It’s over. No one really notices me!
“How did you end up here?” After Fang Ningshu finished her instructions, she finally turned to look directly at Wang Wan.
“Ah! Shushu, you can see me?”
“……Did you forget your meds before heading out?”
Wang Wan pulled a long face.
“I brought her. The stray kitty had nowhere to go.” Xie Zhifei stood at the door holding a cup of coffee and smiled.
“You’re the stray kitty.” Wang Wan walked toward her, catching the scent of the coffee. “Where’d you get that? I want some too.”
“Fang Ningshu made it.”
“Shushu, can I have a cup?” Wang Wan turned and asked.
“This is boss special supply.” Xie Zhifei took a smug sip. “Beg me, and I’ll have her make you one.”
“Please, please!”
Xie Zhifei burst out laughing.
Fang Ningshu walked into the office to brew coffee, speechless, and asked, “What was the meeting at headquarters about today?”
Xie Zhifei straightened up, went inside, closed the door behind her, and sat down on the sofa. “My dad transferred some shares to me.”
Fang Ningshu nodded. “Looks like Director Xie recognizes you. He’s paving the way for you.”
“Mm. I suddenly feel a bit of pressure. My dad said he wants to retire early, but Qisheng is such a huge operation. I’m not sure if I can fully take it over.” Xie Zhifei rubbed her brow.
“I think it’s fine. It’s not like you’re fighting alone. You have all those people under you, right? Get a little more experience, and you won’t be any worse than anyone else.” Fang Ningshu set the coffee down in front of Wang Wan. “Plus, Director Xie must have thought it through. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have waited until now. You exceeded his expectations, so that’s why he’s putting pressure on you.”
Xie Zhifei nodded and smiled. “With you here, I feel much more at ease. Alright, let’s get ready and head to the meeting.”
Fang Ningshu grabbed the materials, and they went together to the small conference room next door. There were just four people in total.
Wang Wan glanced over. Besides Wen Pinghan, there was another man. After a while, the meeting ended, and everyone went back to their own tasks.
She saw Fang Ningshu arranging all sorts of work inside and out, saw Xie Zhifei frequently signing documents, holding video meetings with clients, and meeting with subordinates, saw Wen Pinghan steadily and methodically completing her tasks……
Wang Wan felt a bit dazed.
She had seen Fang Ningshu in work mode before, but this was the first time she saw Xie Zhifei and Wen Pinghan like this. Why did they all seem like different people in the workplace?
Steady, efficient, with a sense of distance, but as if they also had a glow.
In that moment, she suddenly wanted to do something—anything would do. It was better than sitting on the sofa like this right now, with nothing to do and nothing to think about, yet her eyes empty and her mind a total fog.
In the evening, Wang Wan grabbed her bag and went to say goodbye to Wen Pinghan. “I’m heading back first. I mean, I’m going back to the Gu family.”
“Finally willing to go back?” Wen Pinghan smiled.
“Mm. It seems like running away like this all the time isn’t really a good way to handle things.” Before, she had run to Shushu’s place, and now she had run to Wen Pinghan’s. What about after? Could she always count on running into someone who would take her in? What if she didn’t?
“I think……I’ve always been relying on other people, always wanting to get love from them.” As Wang Wan spoke, she suddenly lifted her head, turned, and ran to Fang Ningshu’s office. She called out, “Shushu, do you have time right now? I want to say a few words to you.”
“What is it?” Fang Ningshu was looking at some documents and asked without lifting her head.
“I’m sorry. Actually, there were a lot of times before when I deliberately caused trouble so you’d come help fix it and waste your time.” Wang Wan said frankly.
Fang Ningshu lifted her head and looked at her in surprise.
“Back then, you were the only one who was nice to me, so I always wanted you to pay more attention to me. But I really……didn’t do anything right. I won’t do it anymore. I won’t bother you again, Shushu. Thank you for every time you helped me out before.” Wang Wan bowed deeply, and without waiting for her to reply, she ran off in shame.
It took Fang Ningshu a good while to snap out of it. She muttered, “How does it seem like she suddenly grew up?”
It was past nine in the evening when Wen Pinghan finally got home, and she had brought back the materials too, planning to look at them a bit more.
This was the new project that Xie Zhifei had assigned them in today’s meeting. She wanted them to come up with an optimal plan as soon as possible, so they could discuss it together then.
It was nearly midnight when she finally lay down on the bed. She called Xie Zhifei and asked, “Are you still at the company?”
“I just left.”
“So late?”
“Mm. End of the year means a lot going on, and the annual gala is in a few days—a bunch of stuff.”
Wen Pinghan nodded. She didn’t want to disturb her work any further and said warmly, “Then rest early when you get back. Don’t play on your phone.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to you, Sis.” Xie Zhifei laughed. “See you tomorrow.”
“Mm, see you tomorrow.”
Just thinking about being able to see each other in person tomorrow made both of them smile involuntarily.
In the blink of an eye, the annual gala arrived, scheduled for Friday.
The afternoon featured speeches from the leaders, followed by the banquet and program performances.
The hotel was not far from the company, so it was convenient to get there. When Xie Zhifei was about to head out, she first asked that male subordinate, “Li Jiachuan, how are you getting there?”
“President Xie, I’ll drive.”
“Alright.” Xie Zhifei cleared her throat and then asked, “What about you, Wen Pinghan?”
“I……” Wen Pinghan thought for a moment and said, “I’ll walk.”
“Walking would be so tiring. I’m heading over too—ride with me.” Xie Zhifei immediately smiled.
“Alright, sorry to trouble President Xie.” Wen Pinghan picked up her bag and followed behind her and Fang Ningshu as they all got in the car one after another.
“How was that? Did I act natural just now?” Xie Zhifei asked right away once they were in the car. “Li Jiachuan probably couldn’t tell at all that we’re close, right?”
Wen Pinghan wanted to laugh but held it back. She pressed her lips together and nodded. “Mm.”
“Hee hee.” Xie Zhifei asked again, “Sis, were you really planning to walk there?”
“……I drove to the company today.”
Xie Zhifei’s mouth twitched into a grin. She happily pulled a piece of chocolate out of her bag and ate it. “Sis, want some?”
“No thanks.” Wen Pinghan looked down and saw that it seemed to be the birthday gift she had made. She asked in surprise, “You carry it with you?”
“Of course. I don’t dare eat too much, or it’ll all be gone.” Xie Zhifei smiled, her teeth stained black with chocolate.
Wen Pinghan couldn’t help laughing. “Tell me when you finish it, and I’ll make more.”
“Really?!” Xie Zhifei lit up with joy. “Unlimited supply!”
“Mm.”
In the dim light, Xie Zhifei gazed at her cheek and swallowed. Suddenly, she leaned her face closer, her tone as fresh and pleasant as green tea. “Sis, I think something’s stuck to the corner of my mouth. Can you wipe it off for me~”
Wen Pinghan: “.”
