The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 65
Chapter 65
After arriving at the hotel, Xie Zhifei was led by Fang Ningshu to sit in front of the stage. Her seat was right behind Xie Hongxu’s, and the first row was reserved for the shareholders.
“Dad.” After sitting down, she poked Xie Hongxu’s shoulder and greeted him.
“Why are you only arriving now?” Xie Hongxu asked.
“I didn’t arrive late. You just came early,” Xie Zhifei said.
Xie Zhifei sat up straight with a smile and looked around. There were too many people, making it hard to find Wen Pinghan’s exact seat. She called Fang Ningshu over and whispered a few words in her ear. Fang Ningshu nodded and turned to handle the matter.
The employees had already come ahead and found their seats. Once the leaders arrived, the annual meeting officially began.
The host spoke up on stage, while people below listened attentively, took photos, or played on their phones.
Xie Hongxu turned around, ready to say something to Xie Zhifei, only to see her looking down at her phone, chatting with someone. Her mouth was grinning all the way up to the sky.
“Ah Fei, listen carefully. You’ll be going on stage to speak soon,” Xie Hongxu said.
“Got it.” Xie Zhifei immediately lifted her head and smiled ingratiatingly. She had already asked Wen Pinghan about her area anyway, so she pocketed her phone right in front of him.
Only then did Xie Hongxu slowly turn back around. Xie Zhifei immediately pulled it out again, but unexpectedly, Xie Hongxu suddenly whipped back around. His gaze was sharp, staring fixedly at her.
Xie Zhifei: “.”
Wen Pinghan had not received any more messages and figured she might be busy, so she listened to the host’s passionate introduction along with her colleagues.
Before long, the leaders took the stage one after another to give their speeches.
After waiting a while, Xie Zhifei finally walked onto the stage. She immediately sat up straight, smiling as she raised her phone to record a video, only to discover that many people in front had already raised their phones!
Her view was blocked, so she craned her neck this way and that for a long time before finding a good angle. She aimed her phone at the woman who gracefully ascended the stage.
“President Xie is just too popular,” Li Jiachuan muttered beside her.
“Yeah.” Wen Pinghan agreed, focusing intently on Xie Zhifei. Under the lights, the person shone brilliantly, and her voice flowed like clear water in the darkness, slowly and clearly trickling into her ears. The surroundings seemed to fade into nothingness, leaving only the person on stage in her world.
People on both sides could not help stretching out their arms, holding their phones toward their side. One person muttered, “Why does President Xie keep looking that way? Look over here, look over here, please!”
Wen Pinghan’s mouth curved up.
Xie Zhifei’s speech was serious yet laced with a touch of humor, drawing occasional bursts of laughter. It ended amid cheers and applause as she stepped down.
Half an hour later, it was finally time for the dinner segment. The performances on stage had already begun, and everyone took their seats one after another at the tables.
As Wen Pinghan and Li Jiachuan headed toward one table, they were suddenly stopped by Fang Ningshu.
“You two, go sit with President Xie.”
Li Jiachuan was startled. “Can we?”
“Yes, the seats are already arranged. Go on.” Fang Ningshu nodded toward the front.
Li Jiachuan still found it unbelievable, but Wen Pinghan beside him had already calmly walked over. That table was full of executives, including Chairman Xie, who was speaking softly to Xie Zhifei. He secretly admired Wen Pinghan’s courage and followed along.
As they approached, Li Jiachuan began to feel nervous, but he heard a gentle, warm voice: “President Xie, we’re here.”
Xie Zhifei looked up, her eyes curving. “Come sit.”
There were exactly two empty seats beside her. Wen Pinghan sat next to her first, and Li Jiachuan took the last one.
Xie Zhifei introduced them to the others at the table. Seeing Xie Hongxu smiling all along, everyone greeted each other amiably.
During the meal, the table talk mostly concerned business matters. Wen Pinghan ate while listening attentively to their conversation, speaking cautiously and silently noting the important points in her mind.
At that moment, a young singer came on stage, drawing everyone’s gaze. The conversation paused.
Seeing the others look toward the stage, Wen Pinghan turned her head for a glance. Suddenly, her knee was bumped. She looked down and saw Xie Zhifei’s knee pressed against hers.
She glanced sideways and saw Xie Zhifei staring fixedly at the stage, so she bumped back lightly, pushing Xie Zhifei’s knee away. But it immediately swung back, pressing tightly against her leg and refusing to budge no matter how she nudged it.
She pressed her lips together, holding back a smile, and placed her hand on her knee, secretly hooking the other’s little finger.
Xie Zhifei suddenly looked at her and quickly grasped her hand, playing with her finger bones.
After the young singer stepped down, the lights came back on throughout the hall. The table talk naturally shifted to the young singer. Xie Hongxu turned his head and noticed Xie Zhifei’s face was flushed red. He asked, “Drunk too much?”
“Hm?” Xie Zhifei quickly shook her head and smiled. “We haven’t even started drinking yet.”
“Don’t drink tonight.”
“Okay.”
Xie Hongxu’s peripheral vision caught Wen Pinghan’s face also flushed red. He wondered, “Is the air conditioning set too high? Why is everyone so hot?”
“Maybe.” Xie Zhifei gave an embarrassed smile.
Xie Hongxu immediately called someone to lower the air conditioning temperature a bit. After the meal, there were still some activities, but Xie Hongxu no longer planned to join. He asked, “Ah Fei, heading back?”
“I want to stay and play a bit longer. You go ahead.” Xie Zhifei had other matters anyway, so she stood to see him off downstairs. Unexpectedly, they ran into Gu Zhizhang in the hotel lobby.
“Uncle Xie, Ah Fei.” Gu Zhizhang came forward.
“Zhizhang? What are you doing here?” Xie Hongxu asked in surprise.
“I’m here to meet someone. Are you heading back?”
“Yeah, go ahead with your business. We’re leaving.” Xie Hongxu said.
Upstairs at that moment, Wen Pinghan had stayed in place waiting for Xie Zhifei to return, but her enthusiastic colleagues dragged her to a corner to chat and then to the restroom together before she could break free. Just then, her phone rang.
She glanced at the caller and hung up directly.
The other side called several more times in succession. With no answer, a text message came through.
[Did my mom give you five million?]
Wen Pinghan’s face darkened immediately upon seeing it.
The phone rang again. Wen Pinghan answered and asked, “What is it?”
“I’m at the hotel where you’re holding your annual meeting right now. Where are you? Let’s meet and talk.” Gu Zhizhang said.
Wen Pinghan looked around. The hotel was full of Qisheng people, not convenient for their discussion. A park sat right across from the hotel, so she suggested meeting there.
Ten-odd minutes later, they met in the park. As soon as he saw her, Gu Zhizhang eagerly said, “I only just learned about this from my mom. She actually went behind my back to talk to you without consulting me at all. If she hadn’t let it slip tonight in a fit of anger, I’d still be in the dark.”
“So you’re here to take back that five million?” Wen Pinghan asked.
“No, I’m worried about you. She didn’t say anything to you or do anything excessive, did she?” Gu Zhizhang asked.
“She gave me five million and told me to stay away from you, so I took the money and left.” Wen Pinghan replied.
“She was just tempting you!” Gu Zhizhang said angrily. “No wonder I couldn’t reach you lately. So she was secretly sabotaging us.”
“No, even if she hadn’t given me the money, I still would have stayed away from you.” Wen Pinghan said.
At her words, Gu Zhizhang’s face darkened slightly. He stepped forward, grabbed her arm, and asked in a low voice, “Wen Pinghan, do you really feel nothing for me at all?”
“Yes.” Wen Pinghan forcefully pried his hand off and stepped back two paces. She said, “You and your family have already troubled me enough. I don’t want any more involvement with you, and… I already have someone I like.”
“What did you say?!” Gu Zhizhang asked incredulously.
Wen Pinghan lifted her head and revealed a firm smile. “I said, I have someone I like. Please don’t keep entangling me anymore.”
Gu Zhizhang’s eyes instantly turned red. “Who? Who is the person you like?!”
“That’s my business and has nothing to do with you. If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back first.” After speaking, Wen Pinghan walked straight ahead. As she passed him, he suddenly grabbed her wrist tightly.
“Ten million.”
Wen Pinghan paused, looking at him in confusion. “What?”
“I’ll give you ten million. Break up with that person.” Gu Zhizhang said through gritted teeth.
Wen Pinghan almost laughed in anger and shook off his hand. “And then?”
“Be with me. You can have whatever you want. Since you took my mom’s five million, you can take my ten million too, right?” Gu Zhizhang said in a low voice.
“Sorry, not interested. I love money, but I don’t love you.” Wen Pinghan said firmly.
Gu Zhizhang looked at her unwillingly. “Don’t regret it.”
“If I regret it, I’ll be your grandma.”
Gu Zhizhang had never tasted failure before, but he kept hitting walls with Wen Pinghan. Furious and helpless, he lowered his head dejectedly, bit his teeth in secret, and turned to leave.
“Don’t go.” Wen Pinghan said from behind.
Gu Zhizhang halted abruptly, his heart stirring. He turned back expectantly to look at her.
“Run along.”
Gu Zhizhang strode away, probably furious to death.
Wen Pinghan watched him leave and finally let out a breath. Her phone rang at that moment—it was Xie Zhifei calling. She quickly answered.
“Sister.”
“Mm.”
“The person you like… who is it?” The voice was very soft, slightly trembling, tentative yet laced with a hint of expectation.
She immediately lifted her head, looked around, turned back, and saw Xie Zhifei emerge from behind a tree, holding a bouquet of flowers.
The two gazed at each other from afar. Wen Pinghan’s eyes slowly fell on the bouquet as she held her phone and smiled lightly. “So, who are those flowers meant for?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Xie Zhifei ran toward her. Petals danced under the bright streetlights, carried by the night breeze all the way to her.
Wen Pinghan opened her arms.
But the flowers halted abruptly in front of her. Then Xie Zhifei raised them overhead with one hand. The expected embrace did not happen because Xie Zhifei suddenly changed her mind and leaned down to plant a shallow kiss on her lips.
Wen Pinghan was slightly stunned.
Only then did Xie Zhifei stuff the flowers into her arms, her eyes gradually welling up with surging affection. “For you.”
Wen Pinghan held the flowers with both hands and slowly broke into a smile.
“Ah, I really envy Brother Gu for being rich—one word from him and it’s ten million. Unlike me, who can only confess to you with the most sincere, simplest, and prettiest flowers~ So, sister, will you date me?” Xie Zhifei’s eyes sparkled.
Wen Pinghan lifted her head and kissed her lips.
“This time it’s not a dare.”
Just as she was about to pull back, Xie Zhifei pressed the back of her head, deepening the kiss.
“I didn’t pretend to be drunk either.”
