The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 72
Chapter 72
On Monday, a major client visited the company, and Xie Zhifei personally handled the reception, bringing along Wen Pinghan and Li Jiachuan to take negotiation notes for a later review.
She needed to visit the client’s site for an inspection and said, “Come with me on a business trip for the next couple of days.”
“Sure,” Wen Pinghan agreed immediately.
With the two accompanying her, Fang Ningshu didn’t need to join them. After booking their flights and hotel, she stayed at the company to handle other matters.
Before departure, Xie Zhifei quietly asked, “The hotel arrangements are…?”
“You two are next door, but since there weren’t enough rooms, Li Jiachuan is on the floor below,” Fang Ningshu said with a smile.
“Perfect!” Xie Zhifei gave her a thumbs-up, then happily set off for the trip.
After arriving at the hotel, the three checked into their rooms to freshen up before heading to the client’s company.
Though Wen Pinghan was usually quiet, she knew how to handle clients, always maintaining a smile, poised and confident without being pushy or timid—perfect for negotiations.
Li Jiachuan, on the other hand, wasn’t as skilled in this area, but his logical thinking shone through. He was great at analyzing data and organizing content, always ready with supplementary points or constructive suggestions at critical moments.
The two worked seamlessly together, and by the end of the day, Xie Zhifei was very pleased with their performance.
After the evening dinner, Xie Zhifei and Wen Pinghan helped a drunk Li Jiachuan back to his room.
“Is it okay to leave him alone like this?” Wen Pinghan asked.
“Should be fine. I just didn’t expect his alcohol tolerance to be so low,” Xie Zhifei said with a hint of regret.
“He was blocking drinks for us the whole time. Didn’t you notice?” Wen Pinghan said with a smile.
“I was too busy chatting with the client and sneaking glances at you to notice what he was up to.”
Wen Pinghan smiled, took her hand, and said, “Let’s go back.”
“Okay.”
Li Jiachuan, hearing the door close, groggily opened his eyes and muttered, “I must be drunk. Why else would it sound like Xie Zhifei was flirting with Wen Pinghan?”
Back in her room, Xie Zhifei took a shower and called Wang Wan. “How’s Zhang Changsheng doing at your place?”
“She’s doing fine. Why are you suddenly asking about her?” Wang Wan asked curiously.
“Just showing some care for our new friend.”
“Why do I feel like you’re up to no good? You’re not interested in her wealth, are you?” Wang Wan pressed.
“What wealth?”
“You didn’t know? I heard from my aunt a while back that even though Zhang Changsheng doesn’t manage the family business, her parents set up a trust fund for her from a young age, along with company shares. She could live eighteen lifetimes without working and still not run out of money,” Wang Wan explained.
Xie Zhifei knew Gu’s mother wouldn’t let someone poor into their family, but she hadn’t realized it wasn’t just Zhang Changsheng’s background and character she liked—she was also eyeing her wealth.
The real estate industry was showing signs of decline, and with fierce competition, the Gu family was no longer as prosperous as it had been twenty years ago. Gu Zhizhang was merely holding things together, not surpassing his father like Li Hongyan had.
So, Gu’s mother was anxious. After much thought, she saw Zhang Changsheng as the best option.
Zhang Changsheng had poor health, had never worked, was kind-hearted, and showed great respect for Gu’s mother, making her easy to influence. If she married Gu Zhizhang and had a child, her wealth would eventually fall into the Gu family’s hands. Plus, Zhang Changsheng bore some resemblance to Wen Pinghan, which might help shift Gu Zhizhang’s attention.
“When’s Gu Zhizhang coming back?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Tomorrow, I think.”
“Any specific time?”
“No idea. It’s not like I’m picking him up from the airport,” Wang Wan said.
Xie Zhifei thought for a moment and said, “Zhang Changsheng’s a guest from out of town, unfamiliar with the place. You should spend the night with her.”
“?????” Wang Wan burst out, “Are you out of your mind?!”
Xie Zhifei sheepishly touched her nose, finding it amusing herself, and tried reasoning, “Think about it. If you were constantly in and out of hospitals, always alone, and now staying at someone else’s house, wouldn’t you want a good friend to keep you company through a tough night?”
“No, I wouldn’t!”
“…”
Xie Zhifei switched tactics. “How’s your cousin’s mood lately?”
“Pretty down. He’s practically turning into an alcoholic,” Wang Wan said.
“Then keep an eye on him. If you see him drinking, try to stop him. It’s not good for his health. Besides, you’ve got a guest at home. If she sees Gu Zhizhang acting like a drunk, it’ll leave a bad impression.”
“True. They haven’t even met yet, but she seems to admire him a bit.”
“Exactly. You can’t let Zhang Changsheng see him drunk and making a fool of himself. Keep a close watch.”
“Alright.”
Xie Zhifei didn’t even know when Gu Zhizhang might get blackout drunk and stumble into the wrong room, so she could only ask Wang Wan to keep an eye out.
The best solution would be to get Zhang Changsheng to move out of the Gu household, but since she’d already agreed to spend the New Year with Gu’s mother, she likely wouldn’t leave without a good reason.
Xie Zhifei mulled it over, then decided to relax for a bit.
“Sis, let me take a whiff,” Xie Zhifei said, knocking on Wen Pinghan’s door and hugging her the moment she saw her.
“?” Wen Pinghan instinctively touched her neck. “What are you doing?”
Xie Zhifei buried her face in Wen Pinghan’s neck, taking a deep breath of her familiar scent and smiling contentedly. “All done. Got my fix.”
“…”
Xie Zhifei sauntered into her room, sat on the bed, and eyed Wen Pinghan’s bathrobe with regret. “Why didn’t you bring that fluffy pajama set?”
“Too bulky to pack,” Wen Pinghan said, giving her a puzzled look. “How’d you know I have a fluffy set?”
“I saw it during a video call,” Xie Zhifei said, her eyes sparkling. “Wonder if I’ll ever get to see you wear it in person?”
“It’s not free to see. You got cash?” Wen Pinghan teased.
“Didn’t bring any money. How about I sell myself?” Xie Zhifei winked.
“Come here, let me appraise you.” Wen Pinghan stepped forward, lifted Xie Zhifei’s chin, and looked her over. “Hmm, nice face. Worth about fifty cents.”
“Don’t just look at my face. Other parts are worth more,” Xie Zhifei said, gesturing downward.
“…” Wen Pinghan glanced down.
“Well? Pretty valuable, right?” Xie Zhifei said smugly.
“How valuable could it be?” Wen Pinghan raised an eyebrow.
“I’m talking about my proud—”
“Alright, I give up.” Wen Pinghan pushed her forehead with a finger. “You’re shameless.”
“Shameless? Me?” Xie Zhifei raised her hands innocently. “I was talking about these proud hands of mine, capable of creating so much wealth… Sis, what were you thinking about?”
“…”
“No idea who’s the shameless one here,” Xie Zhifei said with a mischievous grin.
Wen Pinghan wordlessly climbed into bed. “I’m going to sleep.”
“Me too.” Xie Zhifei hopped in, slipping under the covers. “My room smells weird and keeps me up. Can I crash with you tonight, Sis?”
Wen Pinghan studied her for a moment. “Sure. Your lying skills are improving.”
“All thanks to your indulgence,” Xie Zhifei giggled, snuggling into the blankets. She grabbed Wen Pinghan’s hand, chuckling, then pressed it against the pillow, resting her head on it and wrapping her arms and legs around her.
“Aren’t you tired?” Wen Pinghan asked, gazing into her eyes.
They’d left early that morning, rushed over, and had a busy day. It was Wen Pinghan’s first time seeing Xie Zhifei negotiate—confident, composed, and in control. But she couldn’t help feeling a bit sorry for her.
It was exhausting, always needing to be at your best, constantly on the move, charming everyone while staying flawless.
“Not tired at all. Today was my easiest day, thanks to you and Li Jiachuan taking on so much,” Xie Zhifei replied.
“Really? Did I actually help?”
“Of course! You didn’t just help me—you showed off your own skills. The client couldn’t stop praising you,” Xie Zhifei said cheerfully. “See? I’ve got great taste in girlfriends.”
Wen Pinghan smiled softly and leaned down to kiss her lips.
Xie Zhifei, as if waiting for it, took control the moment their lips met, propping herself up with one hand and eagerly tracing Wen Pinghan’s lips with her own.
Wen Pinghan’s arms wrapped around Xie Zhifei’s neck, lost in the dizzying kiss. When she felt a warm touch on her neck, she opened her eyes hazily. “Don’t leave any marks. We’ve got clients to meet tomorrow.”
“I know, Sis.”
Yeah, right.
The next morning, Wen Pinghan stood in front of the mirror, inspecting the mark on her neck, giving Xie Zhifei a cold stare.
“Whoops, it’s chilly today. Here, let’s get that scarf on,” Xie Zhifei said, fawning as she tied it around her.
Wen Pinghan suddenly grabbed her head, leaned in, and left a mark on Xie Zhifei’s neck. Satisfied with the matching mark, she said, “Dare to do it again?”
Xie Zhifei checked the mirror, thrilled. “Think the client will ask about it if I don’t wear a scarf? Sounds kinda exciting!”
“…” You really couldn’t predict her next move with normal logic.
Soon, Li Jiachuan called.
“Hey, Boss Xie, we gotta head out. You up?”
“Yep.”
“I knocked for ages with no answer. Thought you were still asleep,” Li Jiachuan explained.
“Coming.” Xie Zhifei, forced by Wen Pinghan to put on her scarf, opened the door and waved. “Morning.”
Li Jiachuan froze, glancing at her, then at the room number, thinking he’d gotten the wrong room. Then Wen Pinghan stepped out from behind her.
“???” Li Jiachuan pointed at them, confused. “You two…”
“Oh, I forgot my toothpaste and came to borrow Wen Pinghan’s,” Xie Zhifei said with a smile.
“Oh, got it. You both ready? There’s time to grab breakfast downstairs.”
“Sure, let’s go.”
During breakfast, Li Jiachuan got a call and stepped aside to take it. Whatever was said, he suddenly snapped, “Damn it,” his tone unusually harsh.
Both women glanced his way. Xie Zhifei swiped an egg from Wen Pinghan’s plate, peeling it as she said, “I really like how laid-back he is, just swearing like that. I can’t do it—I can’t bring myself to curse~”
Wen Pinghan gave her a complicated look.
Moments later, Li Jiachuan rushed back to the table. “Bad news, Boss Xie. Mr. Zheng agreed to sign with us yesterday, but his secretary just said he’s reconsidering.”
Xie Zhifei: “Damn it, that #&%$…”
Wen Pinghan: “…”
