The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 77
Chapter 77
In the end, at Wang Wan’s strong suggestion and Zhang Changsheng’s gentle persuasion, Fang Ningshu stayed the night as well.
Everyone returned to their rooms. Zhao Xiaojing saw Wen Pinghan heading toward Xie Zhifei’s room and quickly said, “Wen Pinghan, come sleep with me.”
Wen Pinghan: “???”
“Why?!” Xie Zhifei shouted, clearly displeased.
“Don’t you know why?!” Zhao Xiaojing’s eyes kept darting toward Fang Ningshu, practically twitching, but she saw Fang Ningshu walk into the guest room in the far corner like nothing was wrong, clearly not wanting to get close to Xie Zhifei.
“Look at you, you don’t even take the initiative. You’re probably going to mess this up again!” Zhao Xiaojing said, exasperated, before storming back to her own room.
“What are you all talking about?” Wang Wan asked, looking at them with confusion.
Zhang Changsheng shook her head. “I don’t get it either.”
“It’s nothing, nothing. Let’s all go to bed. Goodnight, everyone,” Xie Zhifei said, pulling Wen Pinghan back to her room.
After lying in bed for a while, Xie Zhifei started getting restless again. She had just touched Wen Pinghan’s hand when someone outside the door whispered sneakily, “A-Fei, A-Fei, are you asleep?”
Xie Zhifei gritted her teeth and shouted, “I’m asleep!”
“I knew you weren’t asleep yet. Come out quick, I need to talk to you about something.”
“I’m going to sleep!”
“Wahhh,” Zhao Xiaojing immediately started fake-crying.
“Go check on her. She hasn’t said why she’s here in the middle of the night. What if something’s wrong?” Wen Pinghan said in a low voice.
Xie Zhifei let out a deflated sigh, threw on some clothes, and went out. The two of them headed to the study to talk.
As expected, Zhao Xiaojing had come to vent about why she ran away from home. The reason was simple: her parents opposed her working as a party planner, thinking it was thankless and embarrassing. That evening, after she got home and shared that she had successfully closed a deal, her parents doused her excitement with cold water. Furious, she stormed over to Xie Zhifei’s place.
After talking for a while and finally calming her down, Xie Zhifei tiptoed back to her room, only to find Wen Pinghan already asleep. She climbed into bed as carefully as possible.
Wen Pinghan stirred in her sleep, rolled over, and, feeling Xie Zhifei’s hand, instinctively held it tightly.
Xie Zhifei smiled silently.
The next morning, Xie Zhifei opened her eyes to find Wen Pinghan gone from the room. Yawning, she got up, checked the bathroom—nothing. So, she went downstairs and saw Wen Pinghan cooking noodles in the kitchen. She immediately walked over, softly hugging her from behind, resting her head on Wen Pinghan’s shoulder, and mumbled, “Big Sis, morning.”
“Hm,” Wen Pinghan glanced at her cheek. “Go wash your face.”
“Wash it for me~” Xie Zhifei said, swaying as she hugged her.
“…” Wen Pinghan coughed and shot her a subtle look.
Puzzled, Xie Zhifei followed her gaze and saw four women sitting neatly in the living room, all wearing identical stunned expressions, staring at them in disbelief.
“!!!” Xie Zhifei jumped in surprise.
Fang Ningshu was the first to look away, unable to bear the sight.
“You, you, you, you—explain yourself!” Zhao Xiaojing marched over, hooked her arm around Xie Zhifei’s neck, and demanded, “How come you’ve never been this sweet with me?! Am I still your best friend or what?!”
“Yes, yes, you’re the best,” Xie Zhifei said, laughing and begging for mercy.
“They’re so close,” Zhang Changsheng remarked, taking a sip of her soybean milk before setting the cup down. “It’s really enviable.”
“No kidding,” Wang Wan said, leaning back on the sofa with her hands behind her neck, watching them with a hint of melancholy. “I’ve never been jealous of Xie Zhifei before.”
“You guys… forget it,” Fang Ningshu said, too lazy to point anything out. She picked up her cup, clinked it against theirs, and the three of them amicably finished their soybean milk.
“Alright, the noodles are ready,” Wen Pinghan called out.
They all went to the kitchen to grab their bowls. Wang Wan, walking beside Zhang Changsheng, said, “Wen Pinghan’s noodles are delicious.”
Zhang Changsheng replied, “I’ll have to try them properly then.”
Zhao Xiaojing added, “I’ve never had them either.”
The three sat in a row, picked up their chopsticks, slurped a bite of noodles, and then went for a second, nodding as they ate.
Wen Pinghan couldn’t help but smile. She added extra noodles to the last bowl and asked, “Can you finish this?”
“Big Sis, you’re too good to me!” Xie Zhifei said, touched. With so many people around, she was the only one getting special treatment!
“It’s just a bit more. I didn’t want leftovers.”
“Wah, you didn’t have to say that.”
Wen Pinghan laughed and joined her at the dining table.
Just then, Zhang Changsheng’s phone rang. It was Gu’s mother, probably realizing Zhang Changsheng wasn’t at home.
“Hello, Aunt… I’m hanging out at Xie Zhifei’s place. Yep, I’ll let you know when I’m heading back. Bye,” Zhang Changsheng said calmly, hanging up. She glanced around and went back to eating her noodles.
After a while, Wang Wan turned and asked, “Didn’t Aunt ask where I was?”
Zhang Changsheng shook her head. “She probably hasn’t noticed you’re gone yet. She’ll probably call you soon.”
Wang Wan poked at the bottom of her bowl, her appetite gone. Then, Fang Ningshu placed a fried egg in her bowl. “I don’t eat these.”
Wang Wan looked down at the egg, her eyes welling up. Suddenly, she burst into tears. “All these years, you’re the only one who knows I like fried eggs. They don’t know anything!”
Her outburst stunned everyone. Some passed tissues, others offered comfort, and the dining table turned into a flurry of activity. By the time five fried eggs had piled up in her bowl, Wang Wan finally broke into a smile. “This is way too many. I can’t finish them all.”
She returned them one by one, keeping only Fang Ningshu’s, since Fang Ningshu genuinely didn’t like eggs.
After breakfast, Zhao Xiaojing took Xie Zhifei’s advice and decided to go home to talk things out with her parents.
Fang Ningshu also went home.
Wang Wan stayed in the living room watching TV, occasionally glancing at her phone.
Zhang Changsheng sat nearby, reading a book.
Xie Zhifei and Wen Pinghan wandered around the house, everyone doing their own thing, peacefully coexisting.
But that afternoon, Zhao Xiaojing returned, defeated. “They still won’t listen. They told me to stay home quietly and marry Li Feng in a couple of years,” she said, fuming.
Wang Wan and Zhang Changsheng looked at her, confused, but pieced things together from Xie Zhifei’s comforting words. Zhang Changsheng said, “Is it because the money I transferred hasn’t gone through yet? If your parents knew how much you’re earning, they might not object.”
“It’s not about the money. They just think I’m humiliating them by soliciting business from people in our circle. They even threatened to cut off my card,” Zhao Xiaojing said, stomping her foot in frustration.
“The money Changsheng sent went to your personal account, right?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Yeah.”
“Then start from scratch. You can do it. The question is, do you still want to keep going?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Of course I do! The more they oppose me, the more I want to prove them wrong!” Zhao Xiaojing’s eyes reignited with determination. “They already think I’m embarrassing, so what’s there to fear? I’ll just go all in and do it to the max!”
“That’s four words,” Wang Wan said, counting on her fingers before adding, “Go for it. At least you know what you want to do. I’m the one who’s lost, looking around with no clue what to do next.”
“You’ve been to plenty of events and met lots of people. Why don’t you come help out at my studio?” Zhao Xiaojing suddenly suggested.
“Is that okay? I don’t have any work experience.”
“We all start with zero experience. I’m still figuring things out myself. Since you’ve got nothing going on during the winter break, why not come work with me for a bit to pass the time?”
“Sounds good!” Wang Wan said excitedly. “What do I need to do now?”
“It’s the holidays. Just chill for now.”
“You’ll have plenty to do after the New Year!”
“Great!”
Seeing their enthusiasm, Xie Zhifei and Wen Pinghan were genuinely happy. They exchanged a smile.
Aunt arrived late for work that day. As she reached the door, a scream startled her, making her pat her chest. After waiting a bit and preparing to enter, two more screams came from inside. Her face flushed, and she wandered around the courtyard for a while. When she returned to the door and heard no more screams, she rang the bell, entered the password, and pushed the door open.
The next moment, she was greeted by a chaotic scene in the living room.
Music blared as Zhao Xiaojing and Wang Wan danced awkwardly on the sofa. Xie Zhifei banged on a metal basin, Zhang Changsheng spun circles on the carpet, and Wen Pinghan recorded them on video.
When they noticed Aunt, everyone burst out laughing. Zhao Xiaojing jumped off the sofa and pulled Aunt over to dance.
“Oh, come on, let me off! I don’t know how to do any of this,” Aunt said.
“Boom!” Xie Zhifei banged the wooden basin, drowning out her voice.
The commotion delayed lunch until past one o’clock.
Wang Wan glanced at her phone again.
“Still no call?” Zhang Changsheng asked.
Wang Wan nodded, let out a long sigh, and then smiled lightly. “I keep holding out hope, afraid to face reality. But while I was dancing just now, it hit me—happiness is actually pretty simple.”
“Yeah, life’s short. You’ve got to make yourself happy… but they’re too much,” Zhang Changsheng said, indignant on her behalf. She grabbed her phone and called Gu’s mother. “Aunt, I’m not coming to your place for the New Year, and neither is Wang Wan. We’ll spend it together.”
She hung up, looked at the stunned group, and suddenly felt nervous. “How was that? Was I fierce enough?”
Everyone: “…”
Everyone: “Hahaha!”
That afternoon, they played mahjong for hours. Wen Pinghan had mostly mastered the game and started winning money. The others broke even, except for Xie Zhifei, who lost miserably, while Wen Pinghan cleaned up.
Some teased Xie Zhifei’s bad luck, while others envied Wen Pinghan’s skill.
Wen Pinghan looked at Xie Zhifei with amusement. When everyone headed to the dining table for dinner, she tugged Xie Zhifei’s sleeve and whispered, “Were you deliberately letting me win?”
“No way! Am I that nice? There’s no loyalty in gambling, no lovers at the table. You and I were purely rivals out there!” Xie Zhifei said with mock righteousness.
“What are you two standing there for? Come eat!” Zhao Xiaojing called from the table, handing out chopsticks with her hands on her hips.
After dinner, Zhang Changsheng and Wang Wan discussed where to spend the New Year. It was their first time not celebrating with family, so they were hesitant.
“Why don’t the three of us just go to A-Fei’s place for the New Year? It’s always just her and her dad, which is kind of lonely. We can liven things up this year,” Zhao Xiaojing suggested.
Wang Wan nodded. “Sounds good to me.”
Zhang Changsheng looked at Xie Zhifei, and all three turned to her.
“…” Xie Zhifei looked at Wen Pinghan. “Big Sis, what do you think?”
“Of course she’s coming too. The more, the merrier!” Zhao Xiaojing chimed in, winking at Wen Pinghan as if taking credit.
Xie Zhifei: “…”
Wen Pinghan smiled. “Sure, can we all go to your place for the New Year?”
“Of course,” Xie Zhifei said with a grin, looking at everyone.
“Nice!” Zhao Xiaojing pumped her fist. “This is our first time spending the New Year together. Let’s plan what we need to prepare.”
They discussed for a while until Wen Pinghan’s phone died. She went upstairs to grab her charger, but when she turned around, Xie Zhifei had followed her into the room.
“Big Sis, don’t you want some alone time with me?” Xie Zhifei asked, pouting.
“If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have come here yesterday,” Wen Pinghan said with a laugh.
“Then why did you agree to them joining us for the New Year?”
“It’s rare for everyone to be together like this, and… even if they didn’t come, it wouldn’t be just the two of us. Your dad will be there too.”
“…Oh, right! I totally forgot about him!” Xie Zhifei said, smacking her forehead in frustration.
“You’re really…” Wen Pinghan trailed off, thinking, ‘You’re gonna kill me with that filial piety.’
Xie Zhifei stepped forward with a grin, took her hand, and said plaintively, “It’s been twenty-three hours since we last kissed! That’s terrifying!”
“Last night got interrupted, so I won’t say anything about that, but all day today, you didn’t even think about kissing me? Big Sis, are you tired of looking at me? If you are, just tell me, and I’ll switch up my vibe. Do you like sexy, cute, or nerdy—” She was cut off as Wen Pinghan, unable to take it anymore, kissed her to shut her up.
Xie Zhifei smirked triumphantly.
Bang—
“A-Fei, you—y-you guys!” Zhao Xiaojing opened the door, staring in horror at the scene.
Xie Zhifei and Wen Pinghan turned to look, and the door slowly closed with a bang.
The next moment, it swung open again. Zhao Xiaojing saw them kissing again and muttered, “Did time rewind?”
Another bang as the door closed.
On the third open, Xie Zhifei looked at her, exasperated. “What do you want?!”
“No, what are you two doing?!” Zhao Xiaojing glanced downstairs, then stepped inside, locked the door, and pointed at them accusingly. “In broad daylight, under clear skies, with morals declining and the world in chaos—tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk! How can you do this? What about your mutual good friend, Fang Ningshu?!”
The two: “…”
