The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 83
Chapter 83
The car sped along the road, finally stopping in front of a dilapidated apartment building. Fang Ningshu stood at the entrance of one of the stairwells, scrolling through her phone. When she saw the car, she walked over and opened the door.
Xie Zhifei stepped out and looked up. “Which floor?”
“Fourth floor.”
“Have all the accounts been settled?”
“Yeah, here are all the documents and procedures.” Fang Ningshu handed her the paperwork.
Xie Zhifei glanced at it, then looked at the dozen or so people Fang Ningshu had brought along. “How’s their expertise?”
“Professional.”
“Let’s go.” Xie Zhifei put on her sunglasses and headed up the stairs.
The stairwell was rundown, with some cardboard piled up in the corners. Xie Zhifei quickly reached the fourth floor, and Fang Ningshu knocked on the door of apartment 404.
Soon, the door opened. A gaunt-faced man saw the two attractive women but, before he could react, noticed the group of tall, imposing men behind them. His face paled. “W-who are you looking for?”
Xie Zhifei pushed the door open and walked inside, catching a whiff of alcohol. Another man sat on a worn-out sofa, drinking, while a middle-aged woman clattered around in the kitchen, cooking.
“Who are you?” The drinking man stood up, eyeing them warily.
“Are you Wen Pinghan’s family?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Y-yeah… who are you to her?”
Xie Zhifei removed her sunglasses and said calmly, “Beat them.”
The group of men immediately pinned the two men down, and the living room filled with their cries of pain.
“What’s going on? Who are you people? Why are you beating my sons?” The woman rushed out of the kitchen, her face ashen as she took in the scene. She tried to pull the bodyguards off but was pushed to the floor.
“Oh no, you’re killing them! Just wait, I’m calling the police!” Lying on the ground, the woman grabbed her phone, but Xie Zhifei snatched it away.
Xie Zhifei bent down, staring at the woman. Her sharp tongue and calculating eyes bore no resemblance to Wen Pinghan.
At noon, during a phone call, Xie Zhifei had sensed something off. The abrupt way the call ended didn’t sound like an encounter with an ordinary person. When subsequent calls wouldn’t connect, her unease grew.
Something had happened, something Wen Pinghan didn’t want to tell her about.
After much thought, Xie Zhifei recalled this family. In the original story, they had appeared, entangled in high-interest loans. Gu Zhizhang had discovered their situation, paid off their debts, and even arranged good jobs for them, earning their gratitude. But Xie Zhifei had no such kindness.
If Wen Pinghan wasn’t ready to forgive them, why should she offer these people any warmth?
Wen Pinghan was born in a small mountain village. Being a girl, her family thought she couldn’t do much work and would eventually marry into another household. So, shortly after her birth, her biological mother sent her to a childless couple in the neighboring village, exchanging her for a few thousand yuan.
That couple treated Wen Pinghan well, raising her as their own. Though not wealthy, they always ensured she had enough to eat. To Wen Pinghan, they were her true parents.
But good times didn’t last. When she was eleven, she represented her school in a city-wide math competition. On the day she won, her adoptive parents, overjoyed, left their fieldwork to pick her up on their motorcycle. The roads were slippery from rain, the brakes failed, and the bike plummeted off a mountain path.
Her adoptive parents had scrimped to save money for her college education. Her biological parents, citing bl00d ties, took her back.
But they already had two younger brothers, their precious sons. As the older sister, Wen Pinghan was expected to help with chores and care for her brothers. If they cried, she got beaten.
Good food was secretly given to her brothers, and she never got new clothes. When she asked, they told her to use the money her adoptive parents had left her to buy them herself.
In high school, her second brother was hospitalized after a fight, requiring a large sum. Her mother demanded she hand over the money or quit school to work, claiming the family couldn’t afford to support an idle student.
To continue her studies, Wen Pinghan gave up the money but secretly kept a small portion to ensure she could take her college entrance exams.
When choosing a major, she had no dream career, only looking for the cheapest option. She picked a tuition-free teacher training program, working part-time to cover living expenses.
After starting her internship and earning her first paycheck, the Wen family showed up, claiming their father had died and demanding money for the funeral. She gave them part of her savings, but they complained it wasn’t enough and pressured her for more, even showing up at her school. Fortunately, she intercepted them at the gate, avoiding a public scene.
Left with no support, she handed over all her savings and verbally agreed to cut ties, stating their family matters no longer concerned her.
She quit her job, moved to a new city, and changed careers.
But this family, breaking their word, came looking for her several times, nearly driving her to the edge.
“Are you Wen Pinghan’s biological mother?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Yes, what’s it to you? Did she send you here?”
“Finally found you. Wen Pinghan owes me money, so you’ll have to pay it back.” Xie Zhifei’s lips curled into a smirk.
The woman froze. “What money?”
“She borrowed a large sum from me and can’t pay it back. Since you’re her family, you’ll have to cover it,” Xie Zhifei said coldly.
“Why should we pay? Her debts are her problem, not ours!” the woman shouted, furious.
“Aren’t you her family? If she can’t pay, I have to come to you.”
As she spoke, the two men’s pained cries echoed again.
The woman’s face paled with fear, and she shook her head frantically. “No, no, no, we have nothing to do with her! She cut us off long ago! Whatever’s going on, go find her, don’t touch my sons!”
“She says she’s done with you, but how do I know you didn’t plan this together? You’re her bl00d relatives, after all. It’s only right you help with her debts.”
“It’s true, I swear! She told me she was done with me, and I agreed. If you don’t believe me, ask her!”
“But she told me to come to you.”
The woman broke down, sobbing. “Don’t come after us! We really have nothing to do with her. What do I have to do to make you believe me?”
“Words mean nothing. Write a formal agreement to sever all parental ties.”
“If I write it, will you leave us alone?”
“Of course. A debt has its owner. If you’re no longer connected to her, I’ll only go after her,” Xie Zhifei said.
“Fine, I’ll write it now! Tell them to stop!”
Xie Zhifei raised a hand, and the bodyguards immediately stepped back, standing obediently to the side.
The woman scrambled up from the floor. A sharp-looking woman handed her paper and a pen. “Write what I tell you.”
Trembling, the woman wrote the agreement to sever ties, then looked up at the sharp-looking woman.
“Put your thumbprint on it.” Fang Ningshu slammed an ink pad in front of her.
After the thumbprint was added, Fang Ningshu checked the document and nodded to Xie Zhifei.
Xie Zhifei walked over to the two men groaning on the floor and kicked one in the shin. “Which one of you is Wen Pinggui?”
“What do you want now? I’ve already signed the agreement! Go find Wen Pinghan!” the woman shrieked.
“Did I ask you to speak?” Xie Zhifei glanced back at her.
The woman opened her mouth but didn’t dare say another word.
“Who’s Wen Pinggui?” Xie Zhifei asked again.
“That’s me,” the alcohol-reeking man said, shifting on the floor.
“What a coincidence. You owe me money too.” Xie Zhifei smiled.
“What are you talking about? I don’t even know you. How could I owe you money?” Wen Pinggui said, stunned.
Xie Zhifei pulled out the documents and held them up. “Look closely. Your creditor transferred this debt to me. From now on, I’m your creditor. You’ll pay me back.”
Wen Pinggui studied the documents, looking at her in disbelief. “What are you trying to do?”
“Just introducing you to your new creditor.” Xie Zhifei smiled, squeezing his shoulder. He yelped in pain.
“Geez, why’d you guys go so hard?” Xie Zhifei said with a grin, glancing at her men. “Tell you what, since you’re injured, I’ll lower the interest a bit.”
The mother and sons perked up, barely believing their ears. Wen Pinggui asked cautiously, “How much lower?”
“Let’s say five percent. You can pay in installments—three thousand a month to this card, no less, maybe more.” Xie Zhifei tossed a bank card in front of them.
“Is that for real?” Wen Pinggui grabbed the card and asked.
“Of course. It depends on how you behave. If you don’t pay on time, I’ll come find you. Or if I’m in a bad mood one day, I might just drop by for a visit.” Xie Zhifei smirked.
Wen Pinggui flinched but agreed. “Okay, okay, we’ll do as you say. We’ll pay on time!”
The woman, dazed, thought it over and forced a smile at Xie Zhifei.
Xie Zhifei felt nauseated and left with her group. Once in the car, she asked, “Got a cigarette?”
“Don’t you not smoke?” Fang Ningshu asked.
“Tch, forget it. Go pay those guys.”
Fang Ningshu turned to settle the bodyguards’ fees before getting back in the car.
The car arrived at Wen Pinghan’s apartment. Xie Zhifei handed the agreement to sever ties to Fang Ningshu. “Give this to Wang Wan. Have her come up with an excuse to say the matter’s settled and get Big Sis Han to sign and thumbprint it. After that, she’ll truly have nothing to do with that family.”
“You’re not going to tell her about paying off Wen Pinggui’s debt?”
“It’s not paying it off—it’s a debt transfer. Wen Pinggui still has to pay me back every cent. I just lowered the interest a bit. We’re not actually loan sharks. Besides, a gambler in debt can be unpredictable in desperation. If he threatens Big Sis Han’s safety, that’s trouble. Better he owes me, so he can breathe a bit, earn money, and pay me back while I keep an eye on him,” Xie Zhifei said.
“They’d better understand your implied threat and leave this city soon,” Fang Ningshu said.
“They probably will. They came here to dodge debts. Now that I’m their new creditor, they’ll likely run again,” Xie Zhifei said.
“Are you not going up?”
“Nah, I told her I’d come by tomorrow.” Xie Zhifei smiled. “Let Wang Wan hang out with her a bit, keep her distracted.”
The next morning, Wen Pinghan noticed Wang Wan was gone. She called, and Wang Wan said she was out handling something.
Soon, Wang Wan rushed back with an unexpected agreement. “Here, sign this quick.”
Wen Pinghan looked at the document, stunned, and turned to her. “How did you get this?”
“I was fuming about yesterday, so I went out early, found them, got some people to beat them until they gave in, and made them sign this,” Wang Wan said.
Wen Pinghan couldn’t believe it. “They agreed to sign just like that?”
“Yeah, I told them I was connected to some tough people, scared them silly. Don’t just stand there—sign it and keep it safe.”
Wen Pinghan hadn’t expected it to be resolved so easily and wanted to ask more, but Wang Wan was already urging her to sign.
“Thank you,” Wen Pinghan said.
“No need to thank me, really.” Wang Wan gave an awkward smile. “What’s for lunch?”
“Let’s go buy groceries in a bit.”
“Cool.”
Wang Wan followed her to buy groceries, her eyes darting around to make sure none of that family was nearby. Relieved, she nearly collapsed under the weight of the bags.
“Why’d we buy so much? This is heavy as hell,” Wang Wan said, staggering with several plastic bags.
Wen Pinghan, carrying even more, smiled. “We’ve got company for lunch.”
“Who?”
As they stepped out of the elevator, they saw someone leaning against the apartment door, looking at their phone.
“Xie Zhifei? You’re back already?” Wang Wan said, but Wen Pinghan was already rushing over.
Xie Zhifei looked up, immediately wrapping Wen Pinghan in a hug, grinning. “Big Sis, I’m here to wish you a happy New Year.”
“Yeah.” Wen Pinghan set down her bags, hugging her back, breathing in her familiar scent. Her heart settled, and she smiled. “Happy New Year.”
Wang Wan approached, looking left and right, grumbling, “How long are you two gonna hug? Open the door already, I’m dying here!”
Wen Pinghan let go, opened the door, and let them in. Wang Wan dropped her bags, collapsing onto the sofa with a loud sigh, as if utterly drained.
Xie Zhifei turned to Wen Pinghan. “I’m so jealous of how carefree she is, just flopping down at someone else’s place, making noises like a megaphone. I could never~”
Wen Pinghan stifled a laugh, carrying the groceries to the kitchen.
Wang Wan shot up from the sofa, whispering through gritted teeth to Xie Zhifei, “If it weren’t for your big help, I’d knock you out.”
“What? You’d hit me? I don’t even know what I did wrong. If I messed up, I’m sorry—don’t be mad~” Xie Zhifei said loudly.
Wen Pinghan poked her head out of the kitchen. “Hitting who?”
Wang Wan froze. “…No one, just joking with her, heh heh.”
