The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 86
Chapter 86
Wen Pinghan turned around and looked at her without a word.
Xie Zhifei put away her joking tone, smiled gently, reached out to hug her, and patted her back. “It’s okay, big sis. With you here, I’m not angry at all.”
Wen Pinghan sighed. “Are you silly or what?”
“That’s all ancient history now. I don’t like him anymore, and you know that.” Xie Zhifei looked at her with a tender gaze full of heartache, touched her cheek, and then walked over to Gu Zhizhang. She said, “The old me might have really liked you and probably wouldn’t have minded your little secrets. But the current me really doesn’t like you anymore.”
Gu Zhizhang looked at her in surprise, his emotions hard to describe. The person he had always been sure would never leave him was now drawing a clear line between them.
Why couldn’t he keep any of the people he liked, or who liked him?
“You’re drunk. Go back first.” Li Feng felt embarrassed for him and took the dazed man away from there. But as the guest of honor tonight, Li Feng couldn’t leave either. While he was looking around for the driver, Wang Wan arrived.
“I’ll take him back.” Wang Wan said.
“Okay, then I’ll leave him to you.”
As soon as they reached the courtyard, Gu Zhizhang suddenly stopped in his tracks, shook off Wang Wan’s hand, and turned to head back.
“Cousin! Don’t go!” Wang Wan immediately grabbed him and frowned as she asked, “What do you want to say to them? Aren’t you embarrassed enough already?”
Gu Zhizhang looked at Wang Wan in disbelief. “You think I’m embarrassing? You think I did something wrong too? What exactly did I do wrong?!”
Wang Wan said, “Matters of the heart have no right or wrong. Even if you didn’t do anything wrong, they didn’t either! Xie Zhifei used to like you, but now she just doesn’t anymore. What exactly are you sad about? Do you really like her, or do you just feel like you’ve lost something that belongs to you?”
Gu Zhizhang suddenly froze.
“Ask yourself honestly: if Xie Zhifei really still liked you, would you be with her? Then what about all that talk of loving Wen Pinghan?”
Faced with her questions, Gu Zhizhang had nothing to say. It seemed like every choice was wrong. He lowered his head in defeat. “Why did things turn out like this?”
“Bro, you want too much. The world doesn’t revolve around just you.” Wang Wan patted his shoulder. “Go back. Go back and calm down. Think it over properly.”
On the observation deck, everyone watched the siblings’ retreating figures. Zhao Xiaojing shook her fist in the air from afar. “Jerk of a man.”
“You’re really not angry?” Wen Pinghan’s face still looked a bit upset. The thought of Gu Zhizhang ignoring Xie Zhifei’s feelings for so many years and then suddenly acting all devoted after she changed her mind made her anger flare up again.
“I’m not angry anymore. Calm down, big sis.” Xie Zhifei fanned her with her hand and comforted her. “Think about it: if he hadn’t kept pretending not to see it, we might not have…”
Wen Pinghan’s eyebrows twitched as she finally caught on. Upon careful thought, she felt a bit relieved that Gu Zhizhang had never directly responded to Xie Zhifei’s feelings, which allowed her to slip in.
“Then… do I have to thank him?”
“No need for that. A scumbag still deserves condemnation! It’s just that this opportunity is hard to judge, so I hope big sis won’t take his matters too much to heart. After all, the person right in front of you is the most important~ ” Xie Zhifei blinked hard to act cute.
Seeing this, Wen Pinghan finally smiled and reached up to ruffle her hair.
“Tsk, my teeth ache.” Zhao Xiaojing clutched her cheek, used that as an excuse to drag Li Feng downstairs, and Fang Ningshu followed right behind.
Only three people remained on the observation deck. Wen Pinghan asked, “Aren’t you going down to mingle and build connections?”
“I looked around and found the biggest connection right here.” Xie Zhifei smiled at her, then turned her head to look at Li Hongyan.
Li Hongyan raised an eyebrow. “To be acknowledged by you is my honor.”
“You’re too kind.” Xie Zhifei walked over to his side and asked in a low voice, “I heard you’ve been inquiring about Gu Corporation’s stock price lately?”
Li Hongyan lowered his gaze and curled his lips meaningfully. “If you hadn’t gone inquiring about Gu Corporation yourself, how would you know I was doing it?”
The two exchanged a knowing smile.
“You’re still his friend.” Xie Zhifei teased.
“And you secretly crushed on him for years.” Li Hongyan shot back.
Xie Zhifei smiled awkwardly and extended her right hand. “Best friends: make money together, but don’t stab me in the back.”
“Same to you.” Li Hongyan shook her hand, exchanged a bit of information with her, and then left.
“What do you two want to do?” Wen Pinghan asked quietly.
“That depends on what Gu Zhizhang can still do.” Xie Zhifei smiled, took her hand, leaned down to kiss the back of it, then lifted her head with pursed lips as if to kiss her cheek. “No more talk of him. I urgently need some energy boost. Big sis, let me kiss you quick.”
But Wen Pinghan suddenly raised her hand to block her lips and stared straight ahead into the distance.
Xie Zhifei turned her head in confusion and saw Li Hongyan returning, standing awkwardly at the door and watching them.
“Um… I just suddenly remembered something and wanted to remind you again. Aunt Gu seems to have some complaints about you lately too.” Li Hongyan said awkwardly.
“Yeah, I know.”
Gu’s mother disliked Wen Pinghan, and since she was close to Wen Pinghan, she must have taken a dislike to her as well.
“She might do something unfavorable to you two. As for what, I don’t know. Just be careful.” Li Hongyan scratched his nose awkwardly, turned, and walked away. “You two carry on. I’ll head out first.”
“Hey, Li Hongyan.”
Li Hongyan turned back.
“Thanks.” Xie Zhifei laughed.
“For what?” Li Hongyan shrugged, glanced back and forth between them, shook his head with a smile, and said, “Sometime, bring your partner along. Let’s grab a drink.”
“Sure, no problem.”
Xie Zhifei turned back and found Wen Pinghan’s face full of smiles too. She poked her cheek curiously. “You’re this happy even after getting caught?”
“Yeah, happy.” Wen Pinghan held her hand, her gaze gentle. Then she pinched Xie Zhifei’s lips. “Stop playing. If nothing’s up, let’s head back early.”
“Okay, back home to play!”
The two left the party early. After getting in the car, Xie Zhifei asked, “Your place or mine?”
“Each to our own?”
Xie Zhifei: QAQ
“Then it’s my place.” Wen Pinghan said with a laugh.
Xie Zhifei: (^o^)
“I don’t have enough clothes to wear anymore. Let’s go to my place first to grab some.” Xie Zhifei instructed the driver to head straight home, packed a few outfits, and then went to Wen Pinghan’s apartment.
Wen Pinghan made an excuse to go out shopping and deliberately stopped by the security room to ask if anyone had come looking for her again.
The security guard said, “Nope. Those scammers haven’t shown up again. Don’t worry. If they come, I’ll call the cops!”
“Thanks.” Wen Pinghan walked out of the security room and muttered, “Is it really that effective? Just beat them up and be done with it?”
In any case, there had been no sign of them around lately, so the moving plans could be put off a bit. After all, Xie Zhifei kept leaving things here now and then, and moving would be a hassle.
“Big sis, what did you come out to buy?” Xie Zhifei asked.
Wen Pinghan closed the door and held up her empty hands, only then realizing she hadn’t bought anything.
Xie Zhifei glanced at her fingers and said, “Oh, that? No need. I bought a ton!”
Huh????
“Go take a shower quick. I knew you couldn’t wait, big sis!” Xie Zhifei eagerly pushed her into the bathroom.
Huh huh huh??????
Who couldn’t wait exactly!
Gu Zhizhang woke up with a splitting headache, and as soon as he got out of bed, he accidentally knocked over an empty wine bottle. It wobbled and fell to the ground with a piercing clatter.
After returning from the party last night, he had drunk alone until the wee hours, his mind full of Wen Pinghan and Xie Zhifei. One moment, Wen Pinghan’s cool face with a hint of smile appeared; the next, Xie Zhifei’s playful and cute look came to mind. The two blurry figures kept fighting in his head, leaving him all muddled.
Who did he really like?
Was it an obsession with what he couldn’t have, or the long-standing companionship?
Gu Zhizhang rubbed his neck. At that moment, Gu’s mother knocked on his door.
“Azhang, come to the study.”
Gu Zhizhang gave no response.
“I know you’re up. It’s about Wen Pinghan. Listen or not, up to you.” With that, Gu’s mother turned and went to the study.
A moment later, Gu Zhizhang opened his door and locked eyes with Wang Wan, who was passing by with coffee. He went to the study with a blank expression.
Wang Wan looked puzzled. As she passed the study, she sensed the heavy atmosphere inside and peeked in a few times.
“Wanwan, come in too.” Gu’s mother said.
“Oh, okay.” Wanwan went in and stood in a row with Gu Zhizhang, waiting for her to speak.
Gu’s mother first glanced at her useless son, then at her naive and muddled niece, and said gravely, “This is the last time I’ll warn you two to stay away from Wen Pinghan.”
Gu Zhizhang responded with silence, but Wang Wan couldn’t hold back. “Why? Didn’t she say she doesn’t like cousin anymore? She’s no threat to you now, aunt. Why do you keep fixating on her?”
“Heh, the person she likes?” Gu’s mother sneered, pulled out a few photos, tossed them on the table, and said disdainfully, “This is who she likes. See for yourselves.”
Gu Zhizhang’s eyebrows twitched slightly. He immediately stepped forward, spread out the photos, and looked through them. When he reached the last one, his body suddenly stiffened.
Wang Wan, seeing his reaction, curiously leaned over to the table. The photos on the surface were all of Wen Pinghan and Xie Zhifei holding hands or gazing at each other. She was puzzled when she looked up and saw the photo in Gu Zhizhang’s hand—the scene of Xie Zhifei and Wen Pinghan kissing outside the door suddenly jumped into view, shocking her soul right out of her body for a moment.
“This… what’s going on?!” Gu Zhizhang slammed the table and demanded of Gu’s mother in a stern voice.
“The fact is just that. The woman you swore you wouldn’t marry anyone but is now with your childhood sweetheart.” Gu’s mother said coolly.
Gu Zhizhang’s eyes nearly popped out, his fingers clenched hard, crumpling the photo into a ball. “Impossible. Utterly impossible… You expect me to believe something this outrageous?!”
“It doesn’t seem that outrageous?” Wang Wan recalled the scenes of them together before, along with those riddles she couldn’t understand. Suddenly, it all clicked. “Oh, I get it. Everything makes sense now!”
Gu’s mother: “…”
Gu Zhizhang: ??????
