The Heartless Alpha Just Wants to Follow the Plot - Chapter 2
Mr. Jiang only relaxed after confirming that his daughter hadn’t done anything wrong. She was his only child—he couldn’t bear for anything to go wrong in their family.
“Then do your best to follow along with her, treat her well, listen, and don’t cause any trouble. She is doing us a big favor, after all.”
Mr. Jiang had lived an honest, simple life and had never been involved in the entertainment world. So when his daughter said she wanted to work as an assistant in that industry, he had been terrified she might be taken advantage of.
He never expected her to end up with such a good boss. Now, he could finally rest easy.
After paying the surgery fees, which the doctor scheduled for the next day, he couldn’t help but marvel at how timely the money had come.
“That’s wonderful. Xiao Xi’s boss is a good person. My dear, once you’re better, we absolutely have to thank her properly.”
As he fussed over his wife, gently wiping her, he chattered on, even though she hadn’t opened her eyes or responded in any way.
Their entire family were Betas, so unlike Alphas, they couldn’t take on risky, pioneering work like exploring undeveloped planets. Such jobs were highly lucrative but extremely dangerous.
By the time Jiang Xi returned with fruit, it was already evening. She carried an assortment of fruits and steeled herself before knocking on Su Mu’s door.
Before the door even opened, she braced for a scolding. She had come back so late—if Su Mu hadn’t had other assistants around, she probably would have been yelled at mercilessly.
When the door swung open, Jiang Xi squeezed her eyes shut, her hands trembling as she held the fruit.
“I’m sorry, Su-jie. I’m back late!”
Su Mu was engrossed in her script and didn’t react much. She moved aside and said simply, “Come in.”
She wasn’t being scolded?
Jiang Xi suppressed her fear, nervously taking off her shoes and placing the fruit on the usual rack, while tidying up the empty fruit boxes to throw away later.
She washed a bowl of fruit and sat it next to Su Mu, who was casually perched on the sofa. Jiang Xi dragged a small stool out of the corner to sit on, but Su Mu’s eyes swept over her. With a faint tone, she said, “Sit on the sofa.”
The original Su Mu had certain extreme cleanliness habits. While she had an active romantic life, she was extremely picky with those around her—basically, she looked down on people.
But after Su Mu’s personality softened, she didn’t insist on having attendants sit on tiny folding stools while serving her fruit. She didn’t indulge in that kind of control anymore.
This was the first time Jiang Xi was allowed on the sofa. She froze, stunned, almost unable to believe it.
She sank to her knees at Su Mu’s feet, her voice choked with emotion: “Did I do something wrong? Su-jie, did I upset you today? Tell me, I’ll fix it. Please don’t fire me.”
Even though the job wasn’t glamorous and the hours long, Su Mu paid well enough that Jiang Xi could save some money each month.
Now, when the family needed money most, she couldn’t afford to lose this job. Humility didn’t matter.
Su Mu blinked, recalling the original character’s habits. Clearing her throat and holding her head high, she pointed to the opposite sofa. “That sofa is yours from now on. You don’t need to sit on the stool to serve me. I don’t like that anymore.”
Jiang Xi exhaled, relieved she wasn’t being fired.
She quickly got up, tidied herself, washed her hands, and cautiously sat on half of the opposite sofa. She reached for a cherry to pick the stem, as she had in the past.
Su Mu straightened up, tapping her hand lightly with the script, signaling her to stop.
Jiang Xi blinked, confused.
Su Mu emphasized, “You don’t need to do this anymore. I can do it myself. You’re my assistant, not my maid or nanny.”
Looking into Su Mu’s eyes, Jiang Xi couldn’t help noticing just how stunning she was—someone who could turn heads at a glance. Whether fan or not, people couldn’t resist that face.
She had a great figure and money, too. Even if her acting wasn’t the best, someone would still spend just to support her.
Despite being known for switching lovers like changing clothes and having a difficult personality, Omegas and Alphas alike still scrambled for her attention.
If anyone else had said what Su Mu just did, Jiang Xi would have been grateful. But coming from Su Mu.
Her first instinct was to kneel again. “Please! I’m just a normal Beta—no looks, no figure. I really don’t”
Su Mu stared, dumbfounded.
She pounded the table lightly with the script. “Stop!”
Had Jiang Xi misunderstood something? Had the original character’s reputation for casual flings really sunk in so deeply?
“I don’t mean anything like that with you.”
Jiang Xi remained trembling on the sofa, terrified of displeasing Su Mu.
“So, what about you?”
Her cautious gaze made Su Mu’s head ache.
Su Mo took a deep breath and explained slowly, “I just feel that my previous image isn’t great for my future career in acting. Since I’ve entered this industry, I should focus on acting. I can’t keep letting people lose money because of me.”
Jiang Xi: “……”
Jiang Xi was completely stunned. She had never imagined that Su Mo could ever reach a point like this. The word professionalism practically radiated from her—it was like an asteroid crashing into a star, a double explosion.
Seeing Jiang Xi’s mouth gaping in shock, Su Mo secretly smirked. Sure, this might look a little unusual for her, but at least she was trying to act like a normal person. So why was Jiang Xi making this face?
Moreover, the original Su Mo had always been unpredictable, often letting her character’s script-driven quirks throw her life into chaos. So suddenly wanting to be a good person, wasn’t that still within the realm of normal?
A flicker of worry appeared in Jiang Xi’s eyes. Although Su Mo had never fully immersed herself in a role before, this script was different. The character wasn’t malicious at all—she was a genuinely good person. Could it be that this was why Su Mo had immersed herself so deeply, to the point of carrying the goodness into real life?
At that thought, Jiang Xi finally felt her tense heart relax.
If she had known that just playing a good character could make Su Mo act normal, she would have advised Sister Anjie to pick a “good person” script for her long ago.
The happiness on Jiang Xi’s face was so obvious that Su Mo could feel it radiating off her. That kind of uncontainable joy made Su Mo wonder again what the original character had done to end up with the fate described in the novel.
“Jie, let’s focus on the script and act properly. I’m sure we can win Best Actress again.”
Jiang Xi crouched by Su Mo’s feet, carefully observing her expression and speaking nonstop words that would make the original Su Mo happy.
The original Su Mo liked hearing words like this because she genuinely believed she had earned the Best Actress award through her own talent, nothing fake about it.
But Su Mo’s own acting wasn’t particularly refined. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have remained unnoticed for so long. In some ways, she was just one good role away from proving her talent. If given the opportunity, she could become famous—but unfortunately, she never got that chance.
In that world, she had no opportunity—but in this one, she did.
The original character lacked skill but had wealth, connections, and people willing to prop her up—a super-rich second-generation heiress who could retire from the industry and inherit billions at any time.
Su Mo had scored a bargain. She raised an eyebrow confidently. “I don’t need you to say it—I can definitely win Best Actress again.”
She had entered the industry at sixteen and was nominated for the Little Lo Dan Award for Best Actress at eighteen. Even though it was just a nomination, it was impressive. Unfortunately, nothing followed, and she quietly faded away.
Both she and the original character shared a dream: standing on that biggest award stage, holding a trophy of their own.
For that dream, she had to work hard.
“I’ve decided to go study my acting skills a bit before taking on new scripts,” Su Mo said, looking at Jiang Xi with raised eyebrows. “What do you think?”
Jiang Xi: “……”
Wait.
Su Mo had always been confident in her acting, hadn’t she? Even if the entire galaxy criticized her, she never cared, never regretted, always thinking others were just jealous. Her mindset had been impeccable.
And now, she suddenly said she wanted to study acting?
Jiang Xi’s mind reeled—perhaps the asteroid really had hit the star. The world was ending.
“Ah, uh.”
Cold sweat slid down Jiang Xi’s forehead. Crouching there, she had no idea how to respond. This was practically a death sentence of a question—answer wrong, and you’d die.
“You don’t need to say more. I understand,” Su Mo said, not wanting to tease further. After all, the system in her head was already going haywire.
The system warned anxiously: [Host! Calm down! Don’t push it too far! We’re here to play the villainous second female lead, not rewrite the story. If you mess up this important NPC Jiang Xi, the plot will be ruined!]
Su Mo shrugged. [She’s just not cut out for this. How could someone with that kind of mental strength survive the entertainment industry with me?]
The system wiped virtual sweat. [But Host, finding an NPC related to the plot isn’t easy. Let’s take it slow. If we rush through the plot now, we’ll have nothing to work with later—we’d have to make up our own story.]
[Creating our own story is risky. Too many unknowns—it could collapse.]
Su Mo sighed. How boring.
Sensing her inner thoughts, the system almost crashed. This host was far too clever—clearly a perfect match for their “villainous second female lead” program.
Su Mo waved her hand. “Don’t crouch by my feet like that all the time. It looks weird.”
“I’ll check the script. You help me order takeout—light, but with meat.”
She liked eating meat and wanted to see how the cuisine in this world tasted.
Jiang Xi: “I already ordered it on the way back. It should be here soon.”
She knew what Su Mo liked to eat at night and had arranged delivery accordingly.
Su Mo lightly patted her head and nodded with satisfaction. She liked smart people.
The original character loved meat and could eat a lot without getting fat. Su Mo liked that too.
