The Heartless Alpha Just Wants to Follow the Plot - Chapter 4
Sweat beaded across Su Mu’s forehead, a sign of her spiritual energy being overdrawn. Her body, tense with nerves, unconsciously released pheromones. Outwardly, she looked cold and distant, unapproachable even—but the scent drifting from her was soft, sweet milk candy.
As an Omega, the moment Si Yu felt Su Mu draw near, her heartbeat quickened uncontrollably. That overwhelming sense of compatibility made her knees weak, and the glands at the back of her neck began to thrum with heat.
Su Mu herself didn’t notice. All she sensed was a faint refreshing aroma of watermelon, and it puzzled her. She glanced around, wondering if someone was actually eating watermelon nearby.
When her gaze returned to Si Yu, she saw the other’s face suddenly flushed, her breathing ragged, looking for all the world as if she was ill. Concerned, Su Mu asked again, “Are you alright?”
Si Yu parted her lips, then let out a harsh gasp. Her legs buckled, and she toppled straight into Su Mu’s arms.
The people around them all instinctively stepped forward half a pace. “!”
Su Mu: “?!”
Her mind screamed at her to step away, but her body, bound to the habits of the body’s original owner, reacted differently. Before she realized it, she tossed aside her cap and caught Si Yu in her arms.
Su Mu: “…”
Si Yu: “…”
Everyone else present: hiss.
Jiang Xi, utterly dumbfounded: “…”
No way. Su Mu has a phobia of touch. And she just hugged someone? Voluntarily?
But all Su Mu could think was—in the end, it’s the watermelon’s fault.
She steadied Si Yu and, though her expression looked a little stiff, asked once more, “Are you alright?”
That made it the third time she’d asked. But she truly thought Si Yu was sick, and the idea that she’d dragged herself to set despite illness only made Su Mu more uneasy.
Yet with Si Yu pressed against her, the refreshing watermelon scent grew denser, as though heated, laced now with an undertone of temptation. It prickled like an itch beneath the skin, making one’s teeth ache with the urge to take a bite.
A slow-burning heat rose in Su Mu’s body, a tantalizing sensation of wanting something just out of reach, gnawing at her resolve.
Unaware of what she was experiencing, Su Mu licked the sharp edge of her canine tooth, her wide, clear eyes brimming with unguarded innocence.
Si Yu’s breath came rough and shallow. Her legs remained weak, her strength gone, and in Su Mu’s embrace her condition was even more obvious. Every sign pointed to the onset of her heat.
And in that moment, she was certain Su Mu was doing this deliberately.
Forcing her breath steady, Si Yu gritted her teeth. “Put, put.”
Su Mu blinked innocently. “Hm?”
What? What was she trying to say?
“Put your pheromones away!”
Even as she gasped for air, Si Yu furrowed her brows. Su Mu, stunned, froze for a moment. Pheromones?
The system couldn’t hold back anymore.
【Host! I told you to be a scumbag, not to recklessly seduce girls! Making her enter heat early? What are you doing?!】
【Quick, rein in your pheromones and let her breathe!】
【Don’t ruin this—the plot point has already passed!】
The system’s frantic shouting made Su Mu realize something had gone very wrong. Somehow, without noticing, she had crossed a line.
She hurriedly let go. Si Yu staggered sideways and collapsed against the edge of a desk, the sharp corner jabbing her stomach. She let out a muffled groan.
“Sorry,” Su Mu murmured.
Everyone around looked at Su Mu with open reproach, but mindful of her status, they averted their eyes in silence.
Si Yu, still reeling from her own mistake earlier, had no energy left to argue. Her assistant rushed forward with an inhibitor and quickly administered it. A team of Betas formed a tight circle around her, barring anyone from coming close.
The Omega’s heat-soaked pheromones still lingered in the air, stirring the Alphas present. One by one, their reason began to fray, that primal urge to claim Si Yu rising unbidden.
Even Su Mu, who had breathed in the most, wasn’t spared. The itch under her skin grew unbearable, her face flushed red, her breathing ragged, sweat slicking her skin once more. She tugged at her collar, her eyes faintly rimmed with red.
【System, what’s wrong with me? Is this body hiding some strange illness?】
Dry-mouthed and restless, she found her gaze straying to Si Yu again and again. Each glance only made the heat inside her burn hotter.
Noticing her strange state, Jiang Xi hurried over with a vial of Omega-soothing serum meant for Alphas. But Su Mu instinctively recoiled, wary.
Her lips thinned, face pale. What is this? Some shady, unspeakable drug?
Reading her suspicion, Jiang Xi froze, hand awkwardly suspended midair. Lowering her voice, she explained, “This is a suppressant for Alphas when they’re triggered by Omega pheromones. You’re entering a heat response yourself—if you don’t take it, you’ll keep burning up, and then you’ll”
She paused, then chose a gentler phrase. “Lose control. Do things you wouldn’t normally do.”
The system quickly clarified: though Su Mu was in a woman’s body, in this world she was classified as an Alpha—one of those with power over an Omega’s desire. A dominant role.
If an Omega strongly compatible with her inhaled her pheromones, it could prematurely trigger heat—just as had happened with Si Yu.
For a single, unbonded Omega, that was dangerous. Even with few Alphas present, any loss of reason could lead to disaster. An unprotected Omega in heat was at risk of being fought over, torn apart by feral Alphas. Even with strict federal laws safeguarding Omegas, the danger remained very real.
Su Mu’s unconscious pheromone leak had triggered Si Yu’s heat early—clear proof of their high compatibility. But because Su Mu’s soul was foreign to this world, her willpower was unusually strong, stronger than that of most Alphas present. It also spoke to her extraordinarily high spiritual strength.
Still, Su Mu hadn’t expected this.
Rolling up her sleeve, she extended her arm and rasped hoarsely, “Do it.”
Only after injecting the suppressant did Jiang Xi finally relax.
As a Beta, she couldn’t smell pheromones herself. But Si Yu’s sudden, violent heat had been unmistakably abnormal. If there had been more Alphas present.
“Ah! What are you doing?!”
Jiang Xi whipped her head around to see Luo Juneng, face flushed scarlet, eyes glowing red, already overtaken by pheromone-induced frenzy.
His breath came hot and ragged, papaya-scented pheromones saturating the air. With a snarl, he shoved aside the Betas barring his way and lunged toward Si Yu.
Even with the suppressant coursing through her, Si Yu was still shaken and weak. When she saw the crazed Alpha rushing her, her bl00d drained from her face, her body giving way beneath her. Trembling, powerless, she could only clench her fists feebly.
Is this how it ends? Will I lose everything here today?
She shut her eyes in despair.
Su Mu’s brows knitted. So he’s really going to try it?
Just as Luo Juneng’s hand reached for Si Yu, the fight escalated—Wu Zhi, the action director, also lost control. Though feral, some soldier’s instinct still made him remember to “protect” the Omega.
He kicked Luo Juneng aside, eyes burning red as he strode toward Si Yu.
But before Si Yu could surrender to despair again, Su Mu darted forward, slamming her fist into Wu Zhi’s face. They clashed barehanded, blow against blow.
“Get the suppressants ready!” she barked between strikes.
Though Su Mu herself lacked combat training, the body she now inhabited had learned takedowns and sparring techniques in Alpha schooling. Combined with the system feeding her combat experience, she managed to hold her own against the frenzied veteran.
Struggling but resolute, she shouted, “Be ready! As soon as I pin him, inject him! And don’t let any Alpha get near Si Yu!”
“Load the tranquilizers—anyone who loses it, shoot them down!”
The set had become a battlefield.
Si Yu’s assistant dragged her toward safety, a wall of bodies shielding her from the Alphas. But those with stronger spiritual strength—those who could still smell her pheromones—had already gone mad.
Wu Zhi’s kick landed hard, sending Su Mu flying two meters before she barely managed to catch herself. Pain seared her abdomen.
God, that hurts!
But when she saw Wu Zhi moving toward Si Yu again, she forced herself upright, teeth gritted. “Not so fast!”
“Bang!”
She grappled him into a hold, giving the others their chance. The tranquilizer dart struck his leg true, and at last his massive frame collapsed.
Luo Juneng, too, was subdued and injected with suppressants until he calmed.
Only once the chaos had died down did Su Mu drop to one knee, clutching her abdomen, her face twisted with pain.
【Oww ow ow ow!】
【System, don’t you have painkillers? That kick was brutal! Did Wu Zhi secretly have it out for me?】
Meanwhile, Si Yu, her pheromones finally stabilized, approached. Sweat clung to her skin, her face still flushed from heat.
She looked down at Su Mu, head bowed, silently enduring her pain. Her own eyes grew wet. Never had she imagined that one day, Su Mu—the one she thought least likely to care—would fight like this for her.
Two against one, and one of them a battle-hardened soldier.
Her voice came out hoarse, thick with emotion.
“Thank you.”
