The Housewife O Made Me Become a Mom (GL) - Chapter 14: Glands Out of Control Again?
Chapter 14: Glands Out of Control Again?
She struggled with her emotions and didn’t listen to the doctor’s warnings about the side effects of allergy medication. At worst, she might vomit or have diarrhea.
Lin Xu was distracted. Why didn’t Shu Qingyou stay with her?
Did she have to add that doctor’s contact information? Did Shu Qingyou not know how to refuse, or did she accept the doctor’s obvious interest?
Holding the prescription, Lin Xu pushed the door open with frustration and saw Shu Qingyou holding Shu Rong’s small hand. Shu Qingyou glanced at her faintly, and Lin Xu turned her face away.
“What did the doctor say?”
Shu Qingyou approached. The red spots on Lin Xu’s fair face had reduced, suggesting no major issues. “Do you need a bl00d test, injection, or just pills?”
“You still care about me?”
Lin Xu stepped around Shu Qingyou but soon realized she didn’t have money for the medicine. Embarrassed, she returned and showed the prescription, pointing at it.
“Hey, you pay for it. Just get the medicine listed.”
Moody as ever, Shu Qingyou agreed softly.
The prescription listed the patient’s diagnosis and corresponding drugs: theobromine derivatives triggering pheromone allergies.
As far as she knew, Lin Xu had no pheromone allergy symptoms, only skin issues.
Shu Qingyou asked seriously, “Anything else to watch for?”
“What, you don’t trust me?”
Her face looked like a calico cat’s. Shu Qingyou’s eyes curved slightly. Was Lin Xu anxious because she wasn’t by her side?
“I trust you. Wear this.”
Shu Qingyou pulled a white mask from her pocket. Lin Xu glanced at it and said without thinking, “You put it on me.”
“Is your face ruined or your hands useless?”
“You!”
Clearly mocking her, Lin Xu felt so angry she might develop a lump. She grabbed the mask’s packaging, tore it open, and covered the red spots.
She snapped at Shu Qingyou, “Goodbye!”
“Wait,” Shu Qingyou handed Shu Rong to her. “Take her to the parking lot and wait for me.”
Before Lin Xu could speak, Shu Qingyou’s fingertip brushed her face lightly.
“You’re still pretty.”
The cool, soft touch slowed Lin Xu’s breathing. The feeling passed quickly, and she told herself Shu Qingyou was just showing basic concern.
But Lin Xu’s mood lightened a bit. She muttered quietly, only slightly appeased, planning to question the doctor’s intentions later.
Minutes later, by the car, the crisp air calmed her mood. She turned her attention to Shu Rong, lifting her under the armpits like a kitten.
Shu Rong was so light, probably just over ten pounds.
Unsure about the average weight of a three-year-old, Lin Xu decided the child was as frail as Shu Qingyou, like a sickly twig.
“If only you could talk. What was your mom discussing with that white coat?”
Shu Rong didn’t understand but felt dizzy from Lin Xu’s shaking. She whimpered, and Lin Xu let her go, patted her head, and set her on the car hood.
She told Shu Rong to hold her clothes and not wander off.
Instead of dwelling on this, Lin Xu considered the possibility of a Beta and Omega relationship. Irritated, she ruffled her hair and searched on her phone.
[Can Betas and Omegas date?]
As her fingers scrolled, her mood sank. Soon, her emotions felt like a heavy, intangible stone pressing on her heart.
Shu Qingyou left the hospital building and spotted the tall, leggy Lin Xu. She slowed her steps.
Lin Xu wore a black bomber jacket and dark jeans, leaning lazily with chestnut curls cascading down her back.
Her refined air drew attention, but Lin Xu didn’t care. People stole glances, yet her sharp aura kept them at a distance, and no one approached.
Back in the car, Lin Xu crossed her arms defensively, not hiding her gloom, letting it show on her face.
Shu Qingyou tried to be kind. “This medicine, one pill after meals.”
Lin Xu pretended to be indifferent, slumping against the passenger window, listless.
“Oh.”
“There’s a side effect. It heightens Alpha pheromone sensitivity tenfold.”
That much? Lin Xu frowned but shrugged it off. Her glands were already unstable, so she didn’t care.
“I’ll take it once. Don’t worry. Who wants to mark you?”
“…Okay.”
Shu Qingyou brushed it off lightly. Lin Xu was annoyed, wanting attention but forgetting Shu Qingyou’s reserved nature.
She sighed heavily, sneaking a glance with her peripheral vision. Why didn’t Shu Qingyou show more care?
She pulled out her phone, browsing forum posts. “Ugh!”
Honestly, raising Rongrong wasn’t this hard. Constantly monitoring her mood made Shu Qingyou wonder if she was unfit to raise a child.
She chose her words carefully, her thumb tracing circles on the steering wheel cover.
“Did I upset you?”
At least she had some conscience. Lin Xu silently grumbled about Shu Qingyou.
“Not really. I’m big-hearted. I just saw a post online.”
Shu Qingyou kept her eyes forward, calm. “Can you share? My hands are tied.”
“No big deal. I’ll read it. It’s about showing off love. The poster’s an Omega who fell for a Beta at first sight.”
Shu Qingyou rarely read relationship posts, but Lin Xu seemed to take them to heart, looking troubled.
“They’re flaunting their love. Does it bother you?”
“I’m asking how you view BO relationships.” Lin Xu, wary of revealing her jealousy, quickly added, “It’s not just one post. I saw lots of similar ones online—BO, OO, AB, AA couples.”
Shu Qingyou nodded, understanding, and paused briefly.
“Between people, shared thoughts matter most, not just pheromone attraction.”
Her words made Lin Xu’s heart sink. “Have you shared thoughts with anyone?”
Shu Qingyou thought for a moment. “Yes.”
“Who?!”
Nervous, Lin Xu awaited her answer, but Shu Qingyou teased, not telling her.
Could it be?
Lin Xu avoided that person. Hesitantly, she asked, “Is it Rongrong’s Alpha mom?”
Shu Qingyou didn’t deny it, and Lin Xu grew sadder, looking weary.
“Don’t sigh. It’s not pretty. I meant my teacher, a reliable, respected elder.”
Shu Qingyou sensed Lin Xu’s unease since the hospital and casually mentioned, “I’m not planning to date a Beta right now.”
Lin Xu’s eyes lit up, pleased, savoring Shu Qingyou’s words.
Wait.
Lin Xu pressed on. “Right now? Why’d you add her on WeChat?”
“She has overseas porcelain and asked me to check its quality.”
The flirtation was obvious. Lin Xu fumed. Checking quality? More like eyeing Shu Qingyou’s beauty.
Lin Xu spoke recklessly. “So you added her. How could you?”
Even if she added her, Shu Qingyou did it out of politeness as an alumna. She wouldn’t shamelessly accept random invitations.
Annoyed by Lin Xu’s baseless possessiveness, Shu Qingyou noted they’d been apart for four years and had no relationship.
For Lin Xu’s ignorance, she didn’t argue.
Coldly, she said, “It’s none of your business.”
“You,” Lin Xu’s lips trembled, her nose stinging. “Fine, don’t let her take advantage of you.”
Besides you, who else would bully me like a tyrant?
Shu Qingyou said nothing more.
At home, Lin Xu’s face was sour. She slammed the car door, shaking the vehicle, and nearly damaged the house door.
Shu Qingyou stopped her in time. “Face reality. You can’t afford to pay for damages.”
Lin Xu glared, carrying four bags of snacks and tossing them carelessly on the floor.
Unsure what happened, Shu Rong stayed far from her, fearing Lin Xu’s temper.
Shu Qingyou wasn’t one to back down. Watching Lin Xu vent by scratching at the sofa, she only asked what she wanted for dinner.
Starve me, Lin Xu thought glumly.
But she reconsidered—she shouldn’t punish her stomach. Her lack of money hunched her shoulders.
“I’m a broke nobody. Feed me plain buns and porridge. Just don’t let me die.”
“Okay.”
So stingy with words. Is your mouth made of gold?
As Shu Qingyou turned, Lin Xu stuck out her tongue.
Unfortunately, Shu Rong saw it and found it hard to process. The big sister was mean to her mom.
Lin Xu’s glare warned Shu Rong not to make a fuss.
Shu Rong shrank back, deciding not to play with the big sister anymore. She was bad.
“Rongrong, come here. What TV do you like? I’ll watch with you.”
Shu Rong clutched her mom’s skirt, silently pleading.
Shu Qingyou understood Lin Xu’s possessiveness was acting up, mixed with worry.
A cold war with Lin Xu now would hurt both sides.
She soothed her daughter. “Be good. Big sister won’t bully you. Watch cartoons first. I need to cook.”
Amid the sound of running water, the kitchen soon filled with the aroma of food. Lin Xu glanced over—there was meat!
She secretly rejoiced. Shu Qingyou did care about her.
As for that unseen Alpha, Shu Qingyou never mentioned her. Hmph, probably no good.
Lin Xu relaxed and watched cartoons with Shu Rong.
Dozing off, the smell of food stirred her appetite. Her stomach growled.
She picked up Shu Rong, set her in the baby chair, and grabbed an empty bowl and chopsticks.
Feeling awkward, she served rice and arranged the chopsticks.
Both were busy. When Shu Qingyou cleaned the counter, Lin Xu coughed. “I forgive you.”
Wiping water from her hands with a towel, Shu Qingyou’s skin remained soft and fair despite chores.
She seemed not to hear Lin Xu, waiting a few seconds.
The microwave dinged.
She opened it and took out a small plate.
On it was a round, steaming white bun.
Lin Xu: “…”
Her mouth dropped, full of questions. She didn’t take it.
Shu Qingyou’s clear eyes were innocent. “You said you wanted buns.”
Lin Xu was speechless, as if saying: Are you serious?
In a base layer, Shu Qingyou’s figure was stunning, curvaceous where it counted, her hair tied up, gentle and non-threatening.
The kitchen faced south, with scattered light filtering through branches. Shu Qingyou’s eyes seemed to shimmer.
If Lin Xu painted, she’d beg Shu Qingyou to model. Her heart fluttered again.
Fine, I’m a generous Alpha. Lin Xu gave in.
Knowing not to hit a smiling face, she lifted her lips, boldly approaching Shu Qingyou.
Gently holding Shu Qingyou’s slender wrist, taller, she leaned down, eyes lowered.
Lin Xu cooed sweetly, “Sister Shu, I was wrong~”
She dragged the last note playfully.
Unaware of her charm, not for the first time.
Any Omega would fall for Lin Xu’s innocent face.
After all, a top Alpha’s pheromone strength and looks were one in a million.
Shu Qingyou’s heart skipped, her long lashes trembling like butterfly wings.
A faint warning stirred in her neck glands. She forced calm and set the plate down.
