Chapter 8: Shu Qingyou Wants to ‘Sell’ Her?!
The next day, Lin Xu wanted to sleep in, but Shu Wanning urged her to get up.
To be exact, she slept on the sofa all night, her tall and long-legged body curled up, making her sleep restless.
Because of this, when Shu Wanning rushed her to the car, she insisted on taking the back seat.
Shu Wanning helplessly gave her another eye-roll: “Sis, why do you have to bring her along?”
It was as if she was complaining that Shu Qingyou had already forgotten the pain after the wound healed.
After putting Shu Rong in the safety seat, Shu Qingyou carefully checked Lin Xu’s suppressant patch, as her sleeping posture was bad.
While preparing breakfast in the morning, Lin Xu released pheromones again, so Shu Qingyou had to personally help her fix the wrinkled suppressant patch.
However, the carefree Lin Xu wasn’t even aware of it.
The suppressant patch was changed twice a month, during the heat period, and a new one was applied afterward.
So far, in the short two days since meeting Lin Xu, she had already used four suppressant patches, along with soaked underwear.
“Leave her alone at home to make a mess?”
Shu Qingyou brushed it off. Lin Xu could sleep even more than her daughter. She sighed, “I’m not worried about her.”
Shu Wanning felt she was hiding something obvious but couldn’t help a sharp remark: “You don’t need to emphasize it. The more you say, the more you care.”
Fine, talking more was pointless. Shu Qingyou stepped on the gas pedal.
Shu Wanning looked back. Well, she had covered Lin Xu, the big-tailed wolf, with Shu Rong’s exclusive small blanket.
The car’s heater was on full blast. As the car passed over a speed bump, it jolted slightly, and Lin Xu yawned, waking up leisurely.
She rubbed her eyes, her body and mind still not fully awake, looking around in confusion.
Instinctively gripping the blanket, she saw only Shu Qingyou driving in the front seat. Shu Rong was looking at the scenery and hadn’t paid attention to Lin Xu.
“Where’s Shu Wanning?”
Shu Qingyou knew right away that Lin Xu was awake. The rearview mirror showed her rubbing her sleepy eyes in a cute, dazed manner.
Bl00d relations were strange. At that moment, Shu Rong, tired from counting birds outside the window, was also rubbing her eyes.
Indeed, they were mother and daughter…
Their expressions were almost identical.
Shu Qingyou suddenly regretted bringing Lin Xu along.
To ensure Shu Wanning could graduate smoothly from school, Shu Qingyou decided to keep the appointment.
“You miss her?”
She rarely felt like teasing Lin Xu.
Shu Qingyou couldn’t deny that Lin Xu’s appearance was striking—smooth jawline, delicate nose, flawless skin with a rosy glow. If not for Lin Xu’s unpredictable personality, she might have pinched her cheeks.
But now, although Lin Xu’s personality had changed for the better, Shu Qingyou really didn’t want another nagging sister.
Thinking of Shu Wanning’s harsh attitude, Lin Xu only wanted to compete with her or hide behind Shu Qingyou.
“Ahhh, so scary! How could you say that? Me, miss her? Even if the world ended and I had to board Noah’s Ark to survive, I’d rather drown than stay with her. She made me sleep on the sofa, so mean.”
Lin Xu waited a few seconds: “Where are you taking me?”
Shu Qingyou didn’t expect such a strong reaction. It was amusing, and a small smile curved her lips.
“My university mentor said she needs someone for human experiments, so I’m planning to sell you to her.”
This stunned Lin Xu. She asked nervously, like a clueless rookie: “You’re selling me? How much money will you make?”
Was that the main point?
Shu Qingyou saw Lin Xu’s brows furrow into a small hill, but her eyes sparkled with sincerity.
Shu Qingyou said with a smile, “Quite a lot.”
Hearing this, Lin Xu counted on her fingers, bit her lower lip, and gripped the car seat tightly, her voice heavy with grievance.
“Shu Qingyou, you don’t want me anymore.”
Shu Qingyou frowned slightly, her fair fingers tapping the steering wheel once, then again.
After a long pause, she said, “You were only staying at my place temporarily anyway.”
Time ticked by, and Lin Xu wanted to say more, but Shu Qingyou was focused on driving.
Lin Xu started to believe Shu Qingyou’s talk about selling her.
She slumped like a wilted eggplant, head down, silent.
When they reached a lush, verdant hillside, Lin Xu felt a pang and said dully, “Is this the place?”
Shu Qingyou parked the car in the designated spot and picked up Shu Rong, who was curious but scared of strangers.
Looking up, the mountain breeze swept through the vast forest, surrounding a luxurious mansion in the center.
Servants performed their duties, and a neatly dressed butler approached, inviting them inside to meet the lady.
The butler’s suit and tie followed European standards.
He paused briefly upon seeing Lin Xu but quickly resumed his professional demeanor.
Lin Xu felt a bit awkward. Shu Qingyou looked elegant, her long hair softly draped behind her.
Inside her coat, she wore a cinnamon-colored French knit sweater, a dark brown wool skirt covering her calves and the tops of her ankle boots, giving her a lively yet refined air.
Lin Xu pouted. Shu Qingyou was already beautiful, with a delicate silver necklace around her neck.
The necklace glinted faintly in the light. Compared to her, Lin Xu’s outfit was a disaster.
She wore casual sportswear, a ponytail, and plain Air Force 1 sneakers.
It was like she was there for a morning activity.
Unfortunately, she was still led inside, waiting to be sold by Shu Qingyou.
The butler had a servant guide them.
“The lady is ahead. Miss Shu, please watch your step.”
Inside, it was a different world, with man-made rockeries, wooden bridges, and pebble-paved paths.
The sound of trickling water echoed. As Lin Xu and the others passed a waterside pavilion, they walked further, with bamboo rustling in the breeze on both sides.
The air was fresh, but Lin Xu’s heart wasn’t at ease. Shu Qingyou and Shu Rong stayed quiet, not saying a word.
A servant used a walkie-talkie to inform someone that they were almost there.
Shu Qingyou looked ahead. A middle-aged woman with her hair casually tied up wore a tight, dark work outfit. The faint hum of a machine came from her side as she worked methodically with clay on a pottery wheel.
Teacher Yue Yang, a Japanese-Chinese Omega, was born in Japan. She grew up fascinated by Eastern ceramics, fell in love with the art, and developed a philosophy of tea ceremonies.
She was particular about glazes and clay, often traveling far to study soil when she taught ceramics at A University.
Shu Rong’s eyes lit up at the spinning clay. She wanted to play with it but couldn’t move much in her mother’s arms.
She hugged her mother’s neck, whining softly.
But Shu Rong could only make small, babyish sounds.
Shu Qingyou patted her back: “Be good.”
The servant led them to a tatami room. They took off their shoes, entered, and sat on cushions.
Lin Xu found it odd that she naturally knelt on the cushion. The scent of incense calmed her.
Shu Qingyou remembered this was her teacher’s favorite incense.
She recalled her student days when her teacher often praised her potential and bought one of her works with her own money.
The piece, “Wilderness,” was a curved teapot with three layered glazes, creating a vivid, abstract spatial effect by chance.
That piece was now prominently displayed on a shelf.
Shu Qingyou’s eyes dimmed for a moment. After a few breaths, she looked away.
Closing her eyes, she meditated, something she did occasionally these past few years.
But Lin Xu couldn’t stay calm with the constant chirping of insects.
She leaned toward Shu Qingyou, whose soft face glowed in the sunlight.
Fine, soft hairs on her face swayed gently.
Shu Rong seemed obedient but, Lin Xu knew, the little girl wanted to play outside but was too timid, just blinking and zoning out.
Poor thing, dragged here by Shu Qingyou to suffer at such a young age. Lin Xu had an idea.
She coughed deliberately, but Shu Qingyou didn’t react. Lin Xu sighed and tugged at Shu Rong’s clothes.
Shu Rong turned, pursing her lips. Lin Xu grinned slyly, and while Shu Rong wasn’t looking, she picked her up.
Startled, Shu Rong struggled in Lin Xu’s arms. Lin Xu didn’t let go, covering her mouth.
She teased, “Hey, keep struggling, and I’ll sell you off.”
Shu Rong’s heart pounded. Soon, Lin Xu felt something sticky and wet on her hand.
“Hey, no, why are you crying again? I was joking, hold on…”
Lin Xu quickly ran to the pottery teacher. Yue Yang’s left hand was inside the clay’s center, her thumb and index finger pressing inward to shape it.
“Look, Rongrong, I brought you to play with clay.”
Sure enough, Shu Rong stopped crying. She really wanted to play with clay, as her mother rarely let her play with other kids.
Other kids were dirty, but she was clean, though unhappy.
Yue Yang, in a flow state, disliked interruptions, especially from kids shouting to play with clay.
She looked up, finding them familiar. In their circle, most knew her, maybe from a banquet.
But the powerful Alpha she remembered didn’t match this image. The little girl in her arms was crying like a mess, and Lin Xu patiently comforted her.
Unsure, Yue Yang asked, “Are you… Lin Xu?”
“Huh? You know me, Master?”
Yue Yang stood, turning off the wheel. Had she mistaken her?
Master…
Yue Yang realized, “You came with Qingyou?”
Lin Xu nodded. Both she and Shu Rong were disappointed. Why turn off the machine? How could they play with clay now?
She must have gone to wash her hands. Lin Xu, holding Shu Rong, waited, but instead of Yue Yang, a servant led them back.
Lin Xu started walking, but Shu Rong clung tightly to her collar.
“Hm?” Understanding Shu Rong’s wish, she said, “Wait a moment~”
Yue Yang came out from a side room, changed into lighter clothes, and walked around a screen.
Shu Qingyou held her breath, eyes slightly closed.
Since leaving the hospital, Shu Qingyou had lost her passion for ceramics.
Yue Yang knew her struggles and offered help, only to be politely refused, as expected.
Three years had passed. This time, the child saw her work displayed prominently.
The message was clear: she hoped Shu Qingyou would rediscover her passion, as her most gifted student in years.
Shu Qingyou’s senses were sharp. She heard her teacher pause behind her.
When Lin Xu secretly took Shu Rong away, thinking she was unnoticed, Shu Qingyou couldn’t stay calm.
If she hadn’t been so desperate back then, so exhausted from struggling.
If Lin Xu had been a little kinder, offering just a bit of warmth, it could have been a lifeline in the cold darkness.
She wouldn’t have rejected her sister’s care so harshly.
Or ignored her mentor’s sound advice.
Or treated her friends’ help with cold indifference.
