Chapter 8: Are You Trying to Break Into My Life?
â—ŽAre You Trying to Break Into My Life?â—Ž
After the lively annual meeting, a slightly tipsy Li Jianwei was sent back to her villa, where she was the only one.
Her father, Li, was of a sentimental nature. Spending too much time at home would make him think of his deceased wife. So, he simply traveled the world for inspiration to distract himself, lest he do something rash and follow his wife.
Unless something unexpected happened, her father was probably in some country in the Southern Hemisphere, beginning a three-month art project.
The aunt who had been taking care of Li Jianwei’s daily life had also left for her New Year’s holiday the day before and had probably returned home safely to reunite with her family.
Li Jianwei closed the main door, boiled some honey water for herself on a portable stove, and leaned on the sofa, sipping it slowly.
Realizing that the room was too quiet, she picked up the remote control on the coffee table and turned on the LCD TV hanging on the wall.
She selected a variety show that looked lively from the cover and turned it on. Soon, the cheerful laughter and banter of the guests entered Li Jianwei’s ears.
However, the lively atmosphere of the guests on the screen did not dispel the loneliness that was emerging in Li Jianwei’s heart. Instead, it made her feel that the house was even more desolate.
At this time, which should have been the most lively, she was alone again.
After slowly finishing her honey water, Li Jianwei was too lazy to wash the cup and walked straight to her bedroom, ready to take a shower and go to bed.
Buzz—Buzz—
The phone on the table began to vibrate. Seeing this, Li Jianwei put the bathrobe in her hand to the side, picked up her phone, and looked at the caller ID.
Hmm? Is it a call from Shu Heng?
Li Jianwei didn’t think much of it and pressed the call button. The “little cabbage” had never called her before, so it might be an emergency.
“Hello, is that Sister Li?” Shu Heng’s soft, lingering voice entered Li Jianwei’s ears. Without asking, she knew that she was still drunk.
“It’s me. Are you home yet?” Li Jianwei asked gently.
“I’m home, yes. Thank you, Sister, for having the driver send me back. I’ve already arrived at the apartment,” Shu Heng replied quickly. “Sister, I’m so happy today. I won a prize, and I even stood next to Sister to take a picture.”
“Hehe, Sister Qingqing also sent us the photos she took. She said that the height difference between me and Sister is perfect, and we look great together.”
“Sister, I’m going to take the high-speed train home for the New Year tomorrow. I won’t be able to see you for ten days…”
“Sister, I won’t let you down. I’ll study hard and improve myself, and then help Sister develop a better and more excellent system to shut up all those people who question you…”
When she heard Shu Heng start talking to herself, Li Jianwei was even more certain that she was very drunk.
These words, if it were the usual Shu Heng, she would absolutely not be able to say them. The “little cabbage” would at most look at her with an adoring gaze, and when she made eye contact with her, she would get embarrassed and blush, lowering her head.
So, was Shu Heng hiding so much that she wanted to say to me in her heart?
She’s really such a sincere and shy little kid.
Li Jianwei’s lips unconsciously curved up. She wasn’t in a hurry to take a shower and just leaned against the closet, listening to the soft and gentle words coming from the phone.
Even when she heard repeated content, Li Jianwei didn’t interrupt. She didn’t hang up until the voice on the other end of the line gradually became smaller and turned into steady breathing.
Such a cute little kid. The time and energy I’ve spent on her is worth it.
…
Shu Heng, who was awakened by her alarm clock, sat on the bed holding her blanket with a dull expression. It took a lot of effort for her to remember why she wasn’t waking up in her pajamas.
She was very happy last night after winning the second prize at the annual meeting and interacting with Sister Li up close, so she drank a few extra glasses of red wine.
After being sent back to her apartment by Sister Li’s driver, she had originally planned to send a message to her sister to let her know she was safe, but later, for some reason, she ended up calling her.
Shu Heng couldn’t quite remember what she said, but when she saw the one-hour call duration on her phone, she couldn’t help but rub her face vigorously.
Damn it, what on earth did I say to Sister Li last night?! Stupid brain, think!
After finding that her mind was a complete blank, Shu Heng couldn’t help but cover her face and sigh.
Ugh, why can’t I remember? I didn’t say anything stupid to offend Sister Li, did I?
Shu Heng picked up her phone, hesitating about how to apologize to Li Jianwei.
How does that saying go? No matter if you said something wrong or not, it’s never wrong to apologize first to show your attitude.
[Shu Heng: Sister, I’m sorry. I drank too much last night. If I said anything stupid, please don’t take it to heart. It was all me talking nonsense QAQ]

After sending the message, Shu Heng held her phone tightly, looking anxiously for a reply.
Three minutes later, Shu Heng, who was wriggling on the bed, finally received a response from Li Jianwei, but it wasn’t a message, it was a phone call.
Shu Heng sat up with a start, coughed twice, and quickly pressed the answer button. “Hello, Sister Li. I’m so sorry about last night. I apologize!”
A light laugh came from the receiver, followed by Li Jianwei’s slightly hoarse voice. “Sorry for what? Did you say something to offend me?”
From her voice, it could be judged that Li Jianwei had not been awake for long either. She probably called as soon as she saw the “little cabbage’s” message.
“So I didn’t say anything wrong last night?” Shu Heng slowly blinked her eyes and said honestly, “I only remember that after I got home, I wanted to send you a message to let you know I was safe. I don’t remember anything else I said to you.”
“Well, you told me some things from your heart? I didn’t feel offended.” Li Jianwei had the idea of teasing the “little cabbage” and, after a brief pause, continued.
“You said you missed me very much, that you were already missing me before you even went home, and that you would miss me every day after you got home.”
“You said you would work for me for the rest of your life, and that you would always, always support me and never allow anyone to slander me.”
“You said that Wang Yuanfei was a bad person and not worthy of me, and that it was a very wise decision for me to terminate the engagement.”
“You also told me not to believe Wang Yuanfei’s statements online, and that he wasn’t sorry, he was just saying nice words because he was afraid the situation would get worse.”
“Ah, is… is that so?” Shu Heng stammered in reply, a blush slowly creeping up her cheeks.
Although she couldn’t see Li Jianwei, Shu Heng had already outlined the corresponding scene in her mind based on her rising tone and smiling voice.
The heavy curtains block out most of the sunlight. In the dim room, Sister Li is leaning lazily against the head of the bed, with a gentle smile on her face.
If the curtains were pulled open, a ray of sunlight would be shining in, gently covering her whole body.
Sister might look out the window, her upturned expressive eyes slightly squinted, her pupils coated with a soft golden light.
The receiver of the phone is held by Sister Li to her ear, and as soon as I speak, my voice is recorded by the microphone.
Then it is compressed by EVS coding, the signal is sent through the base station and received by her phone, and after extraction and decoding, it is transmitted to her ear by the speaker.
This complex process takes a negligible amount of time, but Shu Heng was still a little dissatisfied. She felt that face-to-face communication was more efficient and faster.
I’m so strange. Why am I suddenly caring about this irrelevant thing? Is it because I’m too nervous?
“That’s right. And then you invited me to go home with you for the New Year,” Li Jianwei added with a smile, getting up and casually turning off the small night light by the bed.
The smart curtains, which had received the signal, automatically opened. The sunlight from outside poured over Li Jianwei, making her feel warm all over in no time.
It’s a big, sunny day today. It seems suitable for a trip.
Li Jianwei retracted her gaze from the distance and spoke in an almost whispered voice, “Shu Heng, is that invitation from last night still valid today?”
