- Episode 8 - Twisted Affection (Prince Alfred’s Perspective)
Eleanor, who accepted the cancellation of the engagement, proceeded with the necessary steps. I am very grateful.
“Eleanor, thank you for proceeding with the paperwork. It’s a big help.”
“……Of course. It’s for both our sakes.”
Her words were cold, but she was doing it for me. So, I thought I should prepare something as well.
Once the procedures are in order, we will need to announce it. I might be able to help out there. I’ll think about what method would be best. I still think making a big announcement would be the way to go.
“That’s right. Let’s announce the broken engagement at the party where everyone gathers. If there are many participants, it will have the most impact.”
It was a really good idea. To make a big impact and get people to know. But that’s not enough. I need to think about what to do with Vanessa, my new fiancée.
In order for her, who comes from a commoner background, to be accepted, a significant impact is indeed necessary. We also had Vanessa, who is directly involved, think about it together.
“Well then, how about making the former fiancé the villain?”
“I see. That might be a good idea.”
I’ll make sure you get blamed instead of Vanessa. I feel a little bad about it, but I made a promise to her. She agreed to protect both my reputation and Vanessa. In return, we promised to pay compensation from the kingdom.
“How about saying that I was actually being bullied?”
“I think it’s great!”
Vanessa praises my proposal. It’s not a complete lie. It’s true that she stood out at school and it took her time to fit in.
So, I decided to slightly exaggerate the information about being bullied and make it public for Vanessa.
The plan was going smoothly. Eleanor finally reported that all the preparations for breaking off the engagement were complete. All that was left was to make the announcement. I finely guided her to let me handle it. Now, all that was left was to put it into action.
It was supposed to succeed. Who would have thought that my brother Edgar would get in the way! Eleanor denies the bullying, and it’s not what we promised.
My plan was completely ruined.
Even though I worked so hard to plan everything, it all failed. I believed she would cooperate, but she sabotaged me. To think she was the kind of woman who would break promises. Breaking off the engagement was definitely the right decision.
I was also angry at my younger brother Edgar, who suddenly interrupted. Why did he suddenly cut in? Was he trying to show off to someone?
Anyway, because of those two, the plan ends up being a complete failure. I can’t forgive that.
“Damn it… Someday, Eleanor and the others will pay the price for trampling on my feelings. I swear, they will.”
I swore to myself. No more mercy.
