Chapter 4: Little Meow, but From a Noble Family
Yu Qianyue really didn’t expect the young girl in front of her to be the alpha that Eleven had clung to.
She looked at her several times and said, “Actually, Eleven is my friend’s cat, just temporarily staying at my place recently.”
Yu Qianyue took out a pile of evidence to prove the truth of her words.
Shu Yue glanced at it.
Whose cat it was didn’t matter to Shu Yue.
As long as someone could take the cat away safely, that was fine.
She looked at Chen Mi, who tapped her fingertips on the bar counter, “Go on, go on, I’ve got this covered.”
Shu Yue said thanks and told Yu Qianyue, “Come with me, I’ll take you to get the cat.”
Yu Qianyue followed.
When the staff room door opened, there was no sound at all. Shu Yue tilted her head to look inside, and oh no, the cat was gone. She quickly turned back to find Chen Mi, who also came over to check.
“I closed the door when I left,” Chen Mi couldn’t figure it out, pondering fearfully, “Did I not close it properly?”
Seeing Chen Mi already sinking into serious self-doubt, Yu Qianyue had a pretty good guess.
Most likely, Eleven smelled her scent and pried the door open to escape.
After all, this cat wasn’t an ordinary kitten.
Yu Qianyue had no choice and didn’t want Chen Mi and Shu Yue to feel guilty about losing the cat, so she said, “It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s always like this, opening doors on its own. It’s probably in the shop or nearby. How about this, Miss Shu, if it shows up again, can you please call me?”
Shu Yue could only say, “Sure, no problem.”
Yu Qianyue walked out of the Gray Domain shop toward her parking spot. From a distance, she saw a silver leopard cat sitting on her car hood.
Yu Qianyue hurried over, “Ancestor, you still know to come back.”
Eleven lifted its right paw, licked it, and arrogantly gave her a dismissive glance.
Yu Qianyue sighed, “Coming back with me?”
Eleven’s tail flicked unhappily, retorting, “Meow!”
Yu Qianyue noticed its mood and asked, “Ancestor, what are you planning to do?”
Eleven gave her an obvious look.
Yu Qianyue’s cat language skills weren’t advanced enough for this. She looked around, confirmed no one was there, and took out her phone.
The kitten raised its paw and tapped three letters on the keyboard.
“bye”
After doing this, it jumped off the hood and vanished into the alley with lightning speed.
Yu Qianyue stared at the phone’s screen and sighed helplessly.
It seemed this cat was dead set on latching onto someone else.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, Yu Qianyue hadn’t even left yet, still sitting in her car, when she got a call from Shu Yue.
“Hello, Miss Yu, the cat’s back,” she said. “Are you coming to pick it up now?”
Yu Qianyue didn’t dare. She knew if she showed up at the shop again, Eleven would play hide-and-seek with them once more.
“Miss Shu, I talked it over with Eleven’s owner. It really seems to like you. Could you let it stay at your place for a while? We’ll cover the costs.”
Yu Qianyue didn’t dare reveal Eleven’s true identity to a stranger she didn’t know well. After all, this was Ji Shiyi’s spirit form. If someone did something bad to the cat, Ji Shiyi’s real body would suffer serious consequences.
She thought it over and decided paying for fostering was more appropriate. The other party would treat Eleven better for the money.
Shu Yue, hearing she’d have to keep the cat, got goosebumps all over and said without hesitation, “Sorry, Miss Yu, I can’t keep it.”
Yu Qianyue was surprised, “Are you allergic to cats? If that’s the case, don’t worry. Eleven’s different from other cats. She doesn’t shed much, so she’s unlikely to cause allergies.”
Shu Yue shook her head and said, “No, I don’t like cats. Miss Yu, can’t you really take her? Or maybe later I’ll figure out a way to catch her and send her back to you.”
Yu Qianyue was in a bit of a bind now.
She couldn’t decide, so she called Ji Shiyi.
There was a time difference where Ji Shiyi was. When the call connected, her voice sounded lazy, “Another thing about Eleven? You went to find it?”
Yu Qianyue, caught red-handed, muttered, “I was just worried, okay?”
It really felt like the real mom wasn’t anxious, but the godmother was.
“What’s the situation now?” Ji Shiyi asked.
Yu Qianyue said, “Your kid won’t come with me. It hides the moment it sees me, insisting on sticking to this little sister. I thought I’d use the excuse of asking her to foster it, at least giving a proper reason to stay at her place. Guess what your little sister said? She doesn’t even like cats!”
Yu Qianyue huffed and added, “Eleven’s really throwing itself at her.”
After a pause, Yu Qianyue threw in a snarky comment, “Didn’t expect you, Miss Ji, to have this kind of hobby.”
Ji Shiyi, who never liked Yu Qianyue comparing her to her spirit form, said coldly, “The cat’s the cat, I’m me. It throwing itself at someone has nothing to do with me.”
“Then tell me, what do we do with your cat now?” Yu Qianyue asked.
Ji Shiyi went quiet for a moment, then said, “Give me her number. I’ll talk to her.”
Yu Qianyue was a bit worried and cautioned, “Don’t just blurt out the spirit form thing. If something happens—”
“I know,” Ji Shiyi replied. “Eleven’s godmother, relax.”
When Shu Yue got Ji Shiyi’s call, she was busy and didn’t pick up right away. Seeing an unfamiliar number, she hung up without a second thought.
Ji Shiyi called again, and it was hung up again.
On the third try, the call finally connected. The girl on the other end sounded a bit annoyed, “No buying houses, no tutoring, please don’t call me again.”
Ji Shiyi raised an eyebrow slightly, thinking, what did she take her for?
“Hello,” she said slowly, “Is this Miss Shu? Sorry to disturb your work. I’m Ji Shiyi, Eleven’s owner.”
Eleven, who Chen Mi had let loose in the bar to roam freely, twitched its ears slightly. It leaped lightly from the chair behind Shu Yue, landing gracefully on the counter, inching close to Shu Yue, tilting its head to eavesdrop openly.
Shu Yue stiffened, moved back a bit to keep distance from the cat, and said into the phone, “Hello, hello, sorry, Miss Ji, I misunderstood just now, thought it was a scam call.”
“Guessed as much,” Ji Shiyi said. “My friend already told me the situation. Miss Shu, I understand how you feel. Not liking cats is perfectly normal. Just ignore it, don’t take it home, pretend it doesn’t exist.”
The words were so cold that even Shu Yue, who was scared of cats, felt they were a bit cruel.
Little cat Eleven clearly heard its owner’s remarks, let out an unhappy meow, then yowled at the ceiling, as if it had suffered the greatest injustice.
Shu Yue felt a bit bad and said, “Miss Ji, that doesn’t seem right, does it? Are you saying I should abandon it?”
Ji Shiyi said, “If you want to.”
Shu Yue was getting a bit angry.
She thought Ji Shiyi was just too irresponsible.
“Miss Ji, are you really Eleven’s owner?” she now seriously doubted. Ji Shiyi seemed to care even less about this cat than the omega lady who’d just been here.
Ji Shiyi said coolly, “If I could, I’d rather not be.”
Eleven’s ears perked up!
Hearing this, it stood on its hind legs, front paws with claws swiping at the phone in Shu Yue’s hand. Shu Yue felt sorry for it and held the phone closer to it.
The next second, Eleven meowed nonstop at the phone.
Its beautiful blue cat eyes widened, soft cat ears flicked back in anger, and a few tiny whiskers flared out fiercely.
“Aow ji yi wa ei oh oh aow—!”
Chen Mi, hearing this relentless string of yowls, whispered to Shu Yue, “It’s cursing pretty harshly.”
Facing Eleven’s unrestrained kitty rant, Ji Shiyi remained unmoved, deaf to it all.
“Miss Shu, don’t mind it. Just leave it at some street corner, it’ll find its way home,” Ji Shiyi said.
Shu Yue couldn’t hold back her irritation anymore and said unhappily, “Don’t worry, Miss Ji, I’ll take it back. If you don’t want it, I’ll find someone to adopt it.”
Ji Shiyi asked, “You’re taking it back?”
Shu Yue glanced at Chen Mi, who gave her a supportive nod. She nodded firmly and said, “Yes!”
Ji Shiyi chuckled lightly and said, “Then let’s add each other on WeChat. I’ll send you the fostering fee.”
Shu Yue was stunned, “…Huh?”
Ji Shiyi added, “I checked, fostering is usually charged by the day. Miss Shu, what’s your fee preference?”
Shu Yue had no preference! She had no intention of fostering a cat! Did Ji Shiyi not hear her clearly? She said she’d take it back to find an adopter! Not foster it!
Chen Mi grabbed her phone and quoted an outrageous price, “Three hundred a day, no, eight hundred.”
Shu Yue’s eyes widened.
Chen Mi gave her a reassuring look, patted her chest, signaling everything was under control, and typed a line in her phone’s notes.
“I’m scamming her, just to make her give up.”
Ji Shiyi asked, “Miss Shu, is this your price?”
Shu Yue nodded and said into the phone, “Yes, eight hundred.”
Eleven, hearing this, let out an unhappy yowl, pawed at the phone in Shu Yue’s hand, and muttered another meow.
Ji Shiyi said, “My cat says this price doesn’t match its worth. Two thousand a day, is that okay?”
Shu Yue: “???”
Chen Mi: “???”
They exchanged a look, both reading the same three words in each other’s eyes: Crazy person.
Chen Mi backed Shu Yue up, saying, “Miss Ji, you’re not actually trying to scam us, are you?”
Ji Shiyi didn’t respond.
Chen Mi was smug, thinking she’d exposed Ji Shiyi’s scheme, when the entire bar heard, “Alipay received 21,000 yuan.”
Ji Shiyi’s voice came through the phone again, “My friend sent me a photo of the bar earlier. I saw a payment code and scanned it. I prepaid ten days’ fostering fee, with an extra thousand as a handling fee. Miss Shu, can you trust me now?”
Shu Yue and Chen Mi locked eyes, speechless. After a moment, they turned to the little cat, who seemed barely satisfied with this outcome.
…?
Heavens, they’d really picked up a noble family’s meow.
