The Little Bookworm Marked Her Ex-aunt - Chapter 9: Miss Ji, I Have a Girlfriend
Chapter 9: Miss Ji, I Have a Girlfriend
Shu Yue had never seen a check in her life.
She glanced at the special piece of paper in front of her, which could likely make her rich overnight, and then looked at the shattered diamond on the Montblanc pen.
The preparations of modern scammers were too thorough.
Why did they scam her so seriously and heavily? Shu Yue couldn’t figure out what about her was worth scheming for.
“I’m not a scammer,” Ji Shiyi suddenly said.
Shu Yue shrank back in her chair, startled, like a small bird startled by a passerby.
Ji Shiyi said, “I can’t read minds either.”
Shu Yue didn’t believe her.
Ji Shiyi slightly raised her brow and said, “Miss Shu, I said, you’re easy to understand.”
Shu Yue leaned against the chair back, looked Ji Shiyi over again, pushed her glasses, and said, “Then, since that’s the case, Miss Ji, you should understand my answer.”
How could Ji Shiyi not understand? She leisurely stroked Shiyi’s head, and when Shiyi tried to rub against Shu Yue, she grabbed it, pulled it back to herself, tapped its butt, and warned it not to move.
“I personally suggest you consider it again,” Ji Shiyi said calmly. “Miss Shu, in a person’s life, opportunities to change fate in an instant are rare. Now you have this opportunity, and you only need to help me with a small favor to do what you want.”
Shu Yue didn’t like Ji Shiyi’s tone.
It seemed polite and proper but was actually lofty.
“My life is good now,” Shu Yue said. “Miss Ji, please leave.”
“Medical loans, study abroad plans, life goals,” Ji Shiyi said slowly and lightly. “Shu Yue, don’t you want to solve these things easily?”
Shu Yue’s face darkened. She tightly clasped her hands under the table and said, “You investigated me?”
Ji Shiyi didn’t care about her displeasure and said, “Just pre-preparation.”
Shu Yue glanced at the cute, obedient kitten and then at the cold, arrogant woman. She seriously doubted whether Shiyi was really Ji Shiyi’s spirit. Did such a thing as a spirit even exist? If it did, Shiyi didn’t seem like her own.
Her hands gripped even tighter, trying to draw strength from it. She stared into Ji Shiyi’s indifferent eyes and said, “Then Miss Ji’s preparations aren’t complete. There’s something you might not have investigated.”
“What?”
“I have a girlfriend,” Shu Yue said firmly. “I won’t mark anyone but her.”
This surprised Ji Shiyi. Her urgent investigation report didn’t mention Shu Yue’s relationship status. She frowned, not wanting to be someone who interfered in others’ relationships. This had nothing to do with Ji Shiyi’s morals; it was simply because doing so was too degrading.
Having to come and request an alpha’s mark already annoyed her enough, let alone an alpha with a partner.
Ji Shiyi felt like retreating.
“Meow meow—!”
Shiyi, nestled in her arms, meowed urgently.
“She broke up, she broke up, she broke up!”
Ji Shiyi stroked the kitten’s chin, looked at the confident Shu Yue, and said, “But didn’t you break up?”
Shu Yue was almost scared to death and said, “You, how do you know? You investigated that too?”
Shiyi, who had spilled the secret, squinted comfortably under Ji Shiyi’s touch, staying silent.
Ji Shiyi continued stroking it as a reward and said, “Regardless, I hope you, Miss Shu, will reconsider.”
“I really need your mark. It’s important to me,” Ji Shiyi was very honest on this point. “You could say, Miss Shu, your pheromones are my acute special medicine now.”
Shu Yue didn’t understand why Ji Shiyi chose her.
“I’m just an ordinary alpha,” Shu Yue said, knowing her own worth. “Miss Ji, with your abilities, you can surely find other, more suitable marking partners.”
“No,” Ji Shiyi denied firmly. “From the current situation, no one else will do but you.”
Shu Yue was stunned by such an unwavering tone and blunt words.
“If you don’t believe me, Miss Shu, we can go to the hospital together,” Ji Shiyi stated the facts. “At least I’m certain your compatibility with me is over 90%.”
She paused and added, “Though I don’t wish for this, that’s the reality.”
“That’s all I’ll say, Miss Shu. You have my contact information. If you change your mind, feel free to contact me.”
Ji Shiyi nodded slightly to Shu Yue and stood to leave.
The cat in her arms struggled and jumped down, rubbing against Shu Yue’s leg.
Ji Shiyi glanced coldly and said, “Shiyi, let’s go.”
Shiyi ignored her and kept clinging to Shu Yue.
A trace of helplessness finally appeared on Ji Shiyi’s otherwise flawless face.
“You’re not allowed to stay.”
“I want to!” Shiyi meowed back fearlessly. “You can’t attract her, so you won’t let me either?”
Ji Shiyi frowned, stepped forward quickly, and prepared to grab Shiyi by the scruff.
Shiyi, extremely agile, jumped into Shu Yue’s arms, its tail flicking, looking ready to defy Ji Shiyi to the end.
Shu Yue watched the human-cat battle, wanted to help Ji Shiyi, reached to hold the kitten, and planned to grab her.
But as her hand touched the kitten’s waist, Ji Shiyi’s brows furrowed tighter, and she said sternly, “Let go! Don’t touch it!”
Shu Yue, startled, instinctively released the cat.
Shiyi, reluctant, looked unhappily at Ji Shiyi, dissatisfied with her interrupting its petting service.
“Miss Shu,” Ji Shiyi said word by word, “if you don’t want me to force you to mark me, please don’t touch it again.”
Shu Yue finally realized clearly that the cat on her lap was likely not a cat but a spirit.
A legendary existence.
How dare she touch it again? She wanted to shake the cat off her lap.
But Shiyi balanced perfectly, refusing to budge no matter how she shook. She tried standing to drop the cat, but Shiyi’s claws hooked her, even trying to climb up.
To avoid becoming a human cat tree, Shu Yue sat back down.
Shiyi stopped climbing, knew its limits, and lay obediently back on Shu Yue’s lap.
Feeling the warm bundle on her thigh, curiosity stirred. Out of instinct to explore, Shu Yue asked, “Miss Ji, do you and it share sensations?”
“If you’re not blind,” Ji Shiyi said, “it’s obvious.”
Shu Yue grew interested and asked, “Can you communicate with each other?”
Ji Shiyi said, “If you mark me, I’ll tell you the answer.”
Shu Yue shut her mouth.
She wouldn’t sell her pheromones for a bit of curiosity.
But another question came to mind. She glanced at Ji Shiyi, very embarrassed, and said, “Um, Miss Ji, before you came, I touched her several times. Did that cause any bad effects on you?”
Ji Shiyi said, “Shared sensation has a distance limit.”
Shu Yue translated this to mean no.
She sighed in relief.
Good, good.
“Miss Ji, please take it away quickly,” Shu Yue said, tensing up, afraid of accidentally causing Ji Shiyi to sense something again.
Ji Shiyi stepped closer, reached to grab Shiyi.
Shiyi jumped away immediately, hiding on a high cabinet.
“Don’t embarrass me,” Ji Shiyi said, very displeased.
Shiyi pretended not to understand, tilted its head.
Ji Shiyi’s embarrassment had nothing to do with it. It was just a cat, after all.
Seeing the stalemate between human and cat, Shu Yue couldn’t help but say, “Um, Miss Ji, if you don’t mind, Shiyi can stay at my place for a while…”
Shiyi meowed happily in agreement.
Ji Shiyi wasn’t pleased with the idea and said to the cat, “Get down.”
The cat turned its head, butt facing the cabinet edge, tail dangling, utterly rebellious.
Ji Shiyi was out of options.
She pinched her brow, turned to Shu Yue, and said, “I’ll pay for boarding, Miss Shu. Sorry for the trouble.”
Shu Yue nodded.
She thought of a serious issue.
“Miss Ji, if Shiyi is a spirit, does it still need cat food?”
Ji Shiyi glanced at her and said, “It’s all just for show, what do you think? You can handle those things yourself. If it’s inconvenient, I’ll send someone to pick them up.”
Shu Yue sensed a give-up-and-let-it-go vibe in Ji Shiyi’s tone.
No more acting.
“You don’t need to mind it. Just let it stay here,” Ji Shiyi instructed. “I have one request.”
“What?”
“Don’t touch it,” Ji Shiyi said. “Absolutely don’t.”
Shiyi was clearly unhappy with Ji Shiyi’s request, meowing loudly, but Ji Shiyi ignored it.
“Miss Shu, it’s a special situation. I hope you understand.”
Shu Yue understood.
If it were her, she wouldn’t want her spirit touched by strangers either, especially when the owner and spirit shared sensations.
Thinking this, Ji Shiyi leaving Shiyi here was indeed risky.
Though Shu Yue didn’t like Ji Shiyi’s ways, she understood an omega’s situation.
“Miss Ji, don’t worry,” Shu Yue said seriously. “I won’t let anything you don’t want happen.”
Ji Shiyi looked at the girl before her.
A ponytail hung lightly, stray hairs by her ears, sincere eyes under round glasses. She wasn’t beautiful, just had good skin, no makeup, with natural traces everywhere. Her face lacked the arrogance many alphas had from their innate traits, replaced by calm and quiet.
Seeing Ji Shiyi silent, Shu Yue thought she was still worried and swore, “If I do anything, my papers won’t get published, my research will fail, my grad and doctoral studies will flop, and I’ll never get a degree.”
Ji Shiyi chuckled lightly and said, “No need to be so harsh.”
“I just hope you ask my opinion before touching it or releasing pheromones at it,” Ji Shiyi softened her tone. “I don’t like surprises, especially this kind.”
Shu Yue recalled Ji Shiyi’s reaction when she touched the cat earlier.
She deeply agreed with Ji Shiyi’s words.
If it were her, she wouldn’t want to lose composure like that either.
Shu Yue nodded, agreeing to Ji Shiyi’s request.
Ji Shiyi glanced at the stubborn cat, said goodbye to Shu Yue, and left through the door.
Shu Yue looked at the cat, then at the cat supplies filling the room, contacted the school’s stray cat rescue group, and asked if they needed them. They accepted gladly, saying they’d sell extras second-hand, with proceeds for cat rescue.
After handling the supplies, Shu Yue faced the cat again.
Shiyi, no longer rebellious, came down from the cabinet early, walked a few steps in front of Shu Yue, lay down, and struck a “come on, come on, pet me”娇柔 pose.
Shu Yue decided to ignore it.
Seeing no petting despite its charm, Shiyi got anxious, rolled on the floor, and wailed heartbreakingly.
Shu Yue jumped in fright.
She tried reasoning with the cat, “No, no, I promised Miss Ji I wouldn’t touch you casually.”
Shiyi didn’t care, kept meowing, showing tiny sharp teeth, sounding utterly miserable.
Shu Yue wanted to pinch its little mouth but couldn’t. She tried persuading again, “How about this, is this okay?”
She ran inside, found a wooden scratching stick her grandma used to love, and hadn’t thrown out.
Out of respect for Ji Shiyi, Shu Yue took a photo of the stick and sent it to Ji Shiyi.
Sy: Miss Ji, can I use this to touch it? It’s meowing too much.
Ji Shiyi could imagine Shiyi’s tantrum at Shu Yue’s place from the message.
So embarrassing.
He: Don’t know, try it.
Shu Yue got the message, used the stick’s tip to gently touch the cat’s head.
Keeping her habit of collecting data, she messaged Ji Shiyi right away.
Sy: Miss Ji, how do you feel?
He: No problem.
Shu Yue sighed in relief.
It seemed fine as long as she didn’t touch it directly.
She put down her phone and focused on using the stick to tend to the cat.
The cat was unhappy, preferring her hand over wood. It moved around, occasionally pawing at her palm.
Shu Yue quickly dodged. Her phone vibrated in her pocket—Ji Shiyi’s new message.
A voice message.
She played it.
The woman’s voice was cool and merciless.
“Ji Shiyi, if you mess around again, I’ll take you back even if it costs my life.”
Shiyi shrank its neck, whimpered, stopped fussing, and accepted the stick’s service.
“Be good,” Shu Yue sighed lightly, poked its round face with the stick, and said, “Your owner has it tough too.”
