The Live-in Alpha Only Wants to Be a Quiet Salted Fish (GL) - Chapter 6
The sound was jarring, making Lin Mu inexplicably think of an alarm, sharp and noisy.
“I…”
Just as she was about to turn and explain, a sudden force from behind pushed her, making her stumble two steps.
“Who let you into the kitchen, sneaking around? Are you trying to steal something?!”
Lin Mu looked bewildered, turning to face a contemptuous face she vaguely remembered as one of the maids.
“No, I didn’t, I just… I just wanted to look!” She waved her hands frantically, explaining.
People always lose a bit of sense when hungry. She could only blame her uncontrollable legs, but she hadn’t actually intended to do anything. After all, it was someone else’s house. Taking things without asking, no matter how hungry she was, wasn’t worth losing her integrity for a few bites.
“Didn’t you?”
The maid scrutinized her, her gaze suspicious and wary. She didn’t heed Lin Mu’s explanation, simply opened the refrigerator, and began to inventory the ingredients inside.
Lin Mu instinctively felt uncomfortable, but she didn’t say anything. After all, her actions had caused the misunderstanding, so she just awkwardly tugged at her clothes, silently waiting for the maid to finish her count.
Unfortunately, the maid didn’t seem inclined to let her off. Lin Mu’s slight movement immediately drew another round of suspicion.
“What are you tugging at? What are you hiding under your clothes?!”
The maid’s peripheral vision had been fixed on Lin Mu. She wasn’t in charge of the kitchen, so she couldn’t pinpoint any specific problem, but seeing Lin Mu’s movement, she seized the opportunity to make an issue of it.
“Hiding?? How could I hide anything in this outfit?” Lin Mu’s eyes widened, her face full of disbelief.
She was still wearing the same outfit from the afternoon: slim jeans clinging to her straight, long legs, and a T-shirt that, though loose, was thin and clung to her curves with every movement. There was no way she could hide anything in it.
At this point, even if she was slow-witted, she had probably figured things out.
It was probably a pretense of duty, but harassment was the real goal.
“Who knows how you’re hiding it? Lift your shirt so I can see!”
The maid looked impatient, reaching out to pull at Lin Mu’s shirt, but Lin Mu stepped back, swatting her hand away.
“Don’t touch me! I told you, I didn’t steal or hide anything. If you don’t believe me, check yourself!”
Lin Mu’s expression grew cold. Though she was good-natured, even a mud figurine has a three-point temper. Being treated like a thief and suspected was one thing, but being aggressive and demanding a body search was outright insulting.
The maid sneered, “You say you didn’t, so you didn’t? Sneaking into the kitchen, weren’t you just trying to steal food? Don’t pretend to be innocent!”
Lin Mu’s face flushed with anger. Just as she was about to retort, a cool female voice came from the doorway.
“What are you two arguing about so late?” Su Mo leaned against the kitchen doorway, arms crossed, observing the two in confrontation.
“Miss, she came to the kitchen to steal food!” As soon as the maid saw Su Mo, she felt she had found her backbone. She immediately went up to her, pointing at Lin Mu, making an accusation first.
“I didn’t!”
Lin Mu defiantly stared at Su Mo, pouting, her expression subtly showing a hint of grievance.
Su Mo’s eyes flickered. She looked away, turning to the smug maid beside her, a plan forming in her mind.
“You said she was stealing food. Did you see it with your own eyes?”
The maid’s expression stiffened, but she quickly came up with an excuse. “Well, no, not exactly, but when I came in, I saw her standing in front of the refrigerator. Wasn’t that planning to steal food? I remembered your instructions and stopped her, but who knew she wouldn’t admit it and kept arguing.”
Her explanation both showed loyalty and put Lin Mu down. With acting like that, it was a pity she wasn’t an actress.
“I didn’t! I was just confused and walked in because I was hungry! I wasn’t trying to steal food!” Lin Mu bit her lip, experiencing for the first time the helplessness of being unable to explain herself.
Being brought back and forced to study was bad enough. If she didn’t learn well, she’d be punished by being denied food, and then treated like a thief. Lin Mu had never felt so wronged in her life.
Seeing a dignified Alpha almost shedding tears, Su Mo’s heart softened a little. She didn’t dare to tease any longer. After all, it was her own doing; in a moment of haste, she had caused someone to not even get a bite to eat. The shame caused by the pheromones quickly dissipated. Even after only half a day’s interaction, she had more or less figured out this person’s character: a thoughtless husky. She herself was also, why be so serious with this silly Alpha?
“Hungry?” Su Mo took two steps forward, raising an eyebrow as she asked.
Lin Mu stubbornly held her neck straight, not speaking, glaring fiercely at her.
“Want to eat?” Su Mo didn’t mind, continuing to ask.
Lin Mu pouted, her stomach letting out a timely “growl.” Finally, she blushed and softly nodded.
“Want to eat…”
“Oh…” Su Mo half-closed her eyes, drawing out the end of her words. Under the maid’s anticipation and Lin Mu’s nervous gaze, she lightly curved her lips. “Then eat. Take whatever you want from the refrigerator.”
“Miss, but she…” The maid froze, surprised that Lin Mu was being let off so easily. She spoke up unwillingly.
“She’s what? A thief?” Su Mo turned around, sweeping a cold glance at her. “She’s my Alpha. No matter what, she’s half owner of this house. Is taking something from her own home considered stealing? Moreover, I haven’t even asked you yet. You’re in charge of cleaning, right? What are you doing in the kitchen?”
“I…” The maid’s heart tightened, her expression flustered. “I came in after her.”
“And last Sunday too? Every time it’s your day off, you have to go into the kitchen?” Su Mo gave a half-smile. “Were my wagyu beef and seafood delicious?”
Lin Mu’s mind spun, then she caught on, glaring furiously at the maid.
Hmph! I knew it! No wonder this maid kept finding fault with her, refusing to let go. It was the thief crying ‘thief’!
“Miss, I…” The maid looked devastated, her face paling. It turned out that her stealing of ingredients had long been known to the household head.
Su Mo’s smile vanished, her voice gaining a sharp edge. “Do you really think I didn’t know? It was just some leftover ingredients. You took them, and I didn’t bother to argue with you. But to show off your authority to my Alpha, do you really think I’m easily fooled?”
“Miss, I didn’t! You were the one who said she couldn’t eat, so I…”
“No need to explain. Go back to your room and pack your things. You don’t need to come back anymore.” Until the very end, she showed no remorse, still making excuses for herself. Su Mo shook her head in disappointment.
Not only was she full of lies and slandering others, but she also didn’t know the meaning of respect. It was her own fault for giving her the wrong impression, thinking Lin Mu was someone who could be treated cheaply.
The maid knew further explanations were useless. She deflated like a balloon, her face full of resentment, and walked away dejectedly.
In a flash, only Lin Mu and Su Mo remained in the kitchen, the silence so profound you could hear a pin drop.
“Momo, you were so Alpha just now!” Lin Mu’s eyes sparkled, and she moved closer to Su Mo, a hint of shyness still present.
Su Mo immediately got goosebumps. Thanks, and you… are so Omega!!
Suppressing the urge to kick the silly Alpha, Su Mo awkwardly turned her head. “Why are you suddenly calling me that?”
Lin Mu waved her hand casually. “Oh, come on, I just thought we’re pretty close now! And just now, thank you for believing me…”
Rarely serious, Lin Mu, when earnest, seemed to possess two more parts charm than when she was joking around. Especially when she was fully focused on Su Mo, even Su Mo felt a subtle, inexpressible flutter in her heart.
She was about to raise a hand to conceal her fluster.
“Slap!”
“You really are my best sister!”
Su Mo was slapped, stumbling back, and gasped for a cool breath.
You silly Alpha! Are you poisonous?!
