The Live-in Alpha Only Wants to Be a Quiet Salted Fish (GL) - Chapter 7
Lin Mu, clad in a cartoon apron, flitted through the kitchen like a colorful butterfly, humming nonsensical nursery rhymes. Anyone could sense her good mood; joy was practically plastered on her forehead.
Su Mo leaned against the doorway, watching the Alpha inside, a subtle smile playing on her lips.
The childish apron surprisingly suited Lin Mu. She looked more like a good wife or Omega than Su Mo, who never lifted a finger in the kitchen.
Before long, a plate of fried rice was placed on the dining table—a huge plate, piled up like a small mountain.
It was a hodgepodge made from last night’s leftovers, but Lin Mu didn’t mind it at all. Instead, she looked as if she had found a treasure, absolutely delighted.
The ingredients in it were things she once only dreamed of: wagyu beef, lobster, always just a distant spectacle in food videos, watching cheerful YouTubers eat lavishly while she scraped at her own bland white rice, salivating over distant plums.
Now, truly appearing in her own rice bowl, for a moment, Lin Mu inexplicably felt like she was dreaming.
Thank you, Sugar Daddy. Amen!
Ignoring the wisps of steam rising from the fried rice, Lin Mu impatiently scooped a spoonful into her mouth. The lobster was springy, the beef burst with flavor. With each chew, her expression became ethereal, as if she were savoring some exquisite delicacy.
Su Mo, on the other side, watching her, eventually… got hungry.
As a female celebrity, she undoubtedly had high standards for her figure. Consuming such high-calorie food late at night was absolutely out of the question, yet Lin Mu ate with such relish…
While she deliberated, the ravenous eater seemed to sense some kind of danger. She secretly glanced up at the staring Su Mo.
No way, no way. She hasn’t had enough of the grand feast made by a proper chef. She wouldn’t be eyeing my plate of scraps and cold fried rice, would she?!
The eater subtly, deftly slid the plate closer to herself, making no sound throughout. Unfortunately, she couldn’t escape Su Mo’s watchful gaze.
Su Mo paused. The eater glanced around guiltily, even accelerating her shoveling of rice.
Goodness, she actually dares to guard her food!
Su Mo was infuriated, not craving the food itself, but merely wanting to teach the husky a lesson.
“Cough cough…”
Lin Mu ignored her, wolfing down her food.
Unable to bear it any longer, Su Mo kicked out, landing her foot on Lin Mu’s calf. The opposite person didn’t budge. Instead, Su Mo herself slid back a little with the force, making a harsh scraping sound from the chair.
Su Mo’s ears were a bit red. She fiddled with her hair to cover them, feigning annoyance.
“Go get another set of bowls and chopsticks.”
Lin Mu’s face was filled with horror. The rice in her mouth hadn’t even been swallowed yet, and startled by the command, she choked.
“Ugh, cough…”
She had barely coughed once when a threatening glare was shot her way, darting between the fried rice and her, the meaning obvious.
If you dare to spit on the rice, you’re dead!
The itch in her throat was mercilessly suppressed by the glare. Lin Mu could only cast a reluctant look at the fried rice, then, still stifling coughs, headed towards the kitchen.
Watching her resentful back, Su Mo smugly crossed her legs, feeling a little elated.
As a young lady from a prominent family, she had never laid a hand on anyone, and certainly never kicked anyone. This kick gave her a whole new experience—satisfying and therapeutic. Especially when this person was annoyed but still had to obey her, it gave her a surprising sense of accomplishment.
At this moment, Su Mo, immersed in her smugness, didn’t know that the second-floor railing was lined with heads, led by Aunt Liang, the head of the fan group.
“Look at Miss’s kick, oh my…”
“Aunt Liang, does Miss dislike the son-in-law?”
“Dislike what? You young ones don’t understand! Look at how Miss crossed her leg. I watched her grow up, and I know what she’s thinking when she lifts her leg. What’s this called? This is called ‘hitting is affection, scolding is love’! Have any of you ever seen Miss get rough with anyone else? No, right! You can see how much Miss likes the son-in-law!”
“But if she likes her, why is Miss so fierce to the son-in-law, making her eat leftovers now? She’s so pitiful!” a young maid asked doubtfully.
“This is something you need to learn. Alphas, you can’t spoil them. Look at Zhang San next door; he’s arrogant all day, like a big shot. That Li family Omega’s background is clearly better than Zhang San’s, yet she suffers his temper all day long. Our son-in-law is different. Look how well our Miss has trained her; she says east, not west. She says don’t eat, and she doesn’t eat. What’s this called? This is called ‘mastering your husband’! Learn from this.”
Aunt Liang rolled her eyes, her words filled with smugness, growing more delighted the more she looked at the two.
“How good of an Alpha is our son-in-law, willing to lower herself to serve an Omega? What’s this called? This is love!”
The fan leader enthusiastically promoted her views. The younger ones, half-understanding, nodded along, but their gazes towards Lin Mu were now somewhat different.
Lin Mu still didn’t eat her fill that night. The already scarce food was further reduced when Su Mo took a small bowl for herself. In the end, it only barely lined her stomach, making the burning sensation subside.
The next day, she was woken up early and began a rigorous schedule of studying and practice. Although tiring, Lin Mu noticed that the maids’ attitudes towards her seemed to have become much friendlier. Perhaps it was due to the example set by the kitchen maid’s dismissal. The other maids were much more attentive, responding to her calls and coming whenever summoned, truly allowing her to experience the extravagance of a wealthy household. The only odd thing was that they kept watching her and Su Mo from a distance, whispering about something strange.
Three days passed in a flash.
The learning was coming to an end, and practice would reveal the truth. It was finally time for her to be put to use.
The shareholder meeting was scheduled for 10 AM. To avoid any mishaps, Lin Mu was pulled out of bed early for dressing and grooming, and then held down by someone said to be Su Mo’s personal makeup artist.
Heaven help her, in her previous life, Lin Mu, even as a woman, had only worn makeup a few times. The only time was for her graduation photo when a roommate dragged her to put on some foundation. Now, in this life as an Alpha, she had to apply makeup again. This session lasted from six in the morning until nine. After being patted awake by the makeup artist, she was still a bit dazed, looking at the unfamiliar face in the mirror, feeling like she hadn’t quite woken up yet.
“Is this me??”
The original owner’s features were somewhat similar to hers, but compared to her own slightly scholarly look, there was a greater sense of heroism. Now, thanks to the makeup artist’s miraculous skill, her contours were deepened, even gaining a bit of a Westerner’s three-dimensional quality.
My goodness, isn’t this exactly the kind of handsome, cool, mature woman I love?! The hot guy is me!
Her gaze towards the makeup artist suddenly held two parts admiration.
“How does it look?”
Soon after, Su Mo pushed the door open. She saw the makeup artist give a thumbs-up. As the artist stepped aside, Su Mo saw the Alpha hidden behind her.
“Respected Miss, may I have the honor of inviting you to dinner?” Compared to her usual boisterousness, the soft, warm murmur was more magnetic.
Lin Mu walked out, the light hitting her face, making her slightly misty eyes seem full of deep affection. Su Mo’s breath hitched for two seconds.
“How is it, how is it?! Am I super handsome today?!”
Seeing Su Mo in a daze, Lin Mu’s eyes sparkled. Her ‘handsome’ persona shattered in a second, reverting to her goofy expression.
Sure enough, no matter how refined she appeared, a silly Alpha was still a silly Alpha.
Su Mo twitched her lips in exasperation, suppressing the hint of panic in her heart, and didn’t bother to dwell on Lin Mu’s smugness.
“Yes, yes, yes, you’re exceptionally handsome today. Stop being so vain and let’s go. We have a tough battle to fight today.”
Saying this, she took Lin Mu’s arm. Thankfully, this time their positions were finally correct. Their departing figures made one sigh, what a perfect match of talent and beauty.
