The Logmaster - Chapter 23
His mind was no longer filled with human emotions like guilt or fear, but instead was dominated by a cold sense of purpose and a twisted desire to master the power of the site.
Yoshi’s next targets are his former colleagues who framed him.
Shinichi looked deep into Yoshi-san’s history and uncovered the details of the incident that led to him being forced out of the company. There, he found the names of the three men and women who had betrayed and betrayed him, along with a vivid description of the situation.
Argus Co., Ltd.
Takashi Noguchi (51 years old at the time)
At that time, he was the public relations manager and Yoshi’s boss.
Maki Ichinose (age 29 at the time)
At that time, he was Noguchi’s direct subordinate.
Tsuyoshi Akiyama (age 42 at the time)
At that time, he was the chief and Yoshi’s colleague.
Omiichi took a screenshot of the three names.
They remain at the company as if nothing had happened and are steadily climbing the corporate ladder.
This fact reminded him of Iiyama, and the similarities between him and his situation fuelled his desire for revenge even more.
First, you need to contact them and add them to the site’s “Human” list.
When I searched for the company name on my smartphone, I quickly found Argus Co., Ltd.’s official website.
The top page contained information about a free industry seminar that was being held as part of the public relations activities for the new service.
Among the lecturers is Maki Ichinose, who has been promoted to public relations director.
(…A seminar? That way I can naturally contact them without arousing suspicion.)
Exchanging business cards at a business event was a much smoother way to establish mutual recognition than calling out to someone by chance on the street. Omiichi immediately put his plan into action.
First, open the [History] of your boss, Section Manager Suzuki, and tap the [Add] button.
Addendum: After tomorrow morning’s meeting, Section Chief Suzuki will instruct Ayumaru Shinichi to attend a seminar hosted by Argus Co., Ltd. to gather information and improve his skills.
And the next day.
“Hey Ayumaru, can I ask you something? This seminar by this company called Argus seems to have quite a good reputation, so why don’t you try attending it?”
Section Chief Suzuki gave the instructions exactly as planned.
“Yes, I’d love to participate.”
Although Omiichi chuckled to himself, he answered with a serious look on his face and immediately accessed the website to apply for the seminar.
I have no interest in the content of the seminar itself. What’s important is to get in touch with Ichinose, and if possible, Noguchi and Akiyama, and add them to my list through exchanging business cards.
The reply to my application to participate in the seminar arrived promptly.
The event is one week away.
In the meantime, Omiichi returned to his daily routine.
I go to work, do the work that I’m given (or that I’ve conveniently assigned using [History]), and, unlike in the past, now I finish work on time and go straight home.
After returning home, they have dinner, take a bath, and go to bed, where they check other people’s history and gather information, then go to sleep.
And in parallel, he was also working on another “plan” – an experiment using Saeki.
After Aizawa’s death, the balance of power in the tent village had subtly changed.
With the disappearance of Igarashi and Aizawa, the small-time Suzuki
“Maybe next time I can become the leader of this village.”
I began to harbor such petty ambitions.
And, to begin with, he thought of treating Saeki, who was the easiest to control, as his underling.
Saeki’s history recorded that Suzuki had suddenly begun to treat him in a familiar, yet somewhat condescending manner.
On the other hand, Saeki was smiling politely on the surface to match Suzuki’s attitude, but his true feelings were clear even without Omiichi reading the [History].
His history contains a few words expressing his dark feelings.
“…You’re next, Suzuki…”
The same hatred, if not even greater, that he felt towards Igarashi was growing inside of him.
And tomorrow is the day for whale soup. According to [History], Suzuki has a special attachment to whale soup, and last night he spoke passionately about its taste along with his memories of the past to Saeki.
(…Maybe it’s about time.)
After finishing his usual routine and getting into bed, Omiichi opened the website and, once again, added a very simple sentence to Saeki’s [History].
『Addition: Taku Saeki invites Kiyoharu Suzuki to join him for a drink on the riverbank, saying, “Would you like to mourn Igarashi tonight?”』
Omiichi placed his smartphone next to his pillow and closed his eyes without any emotion.
The next morning.
As soon as I wake up, I check my smartphone next to my pillow.
As expected, I received a LINE notification from the red letter “⚪︎”.
Omiichi no longer felt any surprise or fear at the notification.
However, just to check the facts, I opened the site and checked Saeki’s [History].
There, the whole story of the previous night was recorded in vivid detail.
As Omiichi added, Saeki lured Suzuki out.
Suzuki was in high spirits at the prospect of eating whale soup the next day, and was itching to share some old memories, so he didn’t have any doubts about the invitation and gladly accepted.
Once they were alone, Saeki persistently offered Suzuki drinks, and Suzuki also drank drink after drink, enjoying himself.
Soon, Suzuki was completely drunk and could no longer speak clearly.
It was about time for the party to end, and as I approached the riverside to pray at the place where Igarashi had died, it was at that moment.
Suddenly, Saeki pushed Suzuki, who was completely drunk and staggering, into the river with all his might.
With Igarashi, it ended with him just being pushed off the ground, but this time it was different.
Suzuki frantically thrashed his arms and legs around, and miraculously managed to reach the riverbank in shallow water. Saeki looked worried for a moment as he watched.
But that hesitation only lasted for a moment.
Without hesitation, he jumped into the river himself, grabbed Suzuki’s head, who was gasping for breath, and forcefully pushed him underwater.
Suzuki, who had already exhausted all his strength, put up a slight resistance but quickly became motionless and his body was carried slowly downstream by the current.
Furthermore, in the [History] section, there was a sentence that gave further insight into Saeki’s state of mind.
“At the moment Suzuki’s life ended, Saeki vividly recalled the tragedy of that night – the woman’s cries gradually fading as she was violated, and her last breath, and then she quietly died in the flow of the river.”
The site even records in detail the physiological reactions of those who commit murder.
As if nothing had happened, Omiichi put his smartphone in his pocket and headed to the kitchen.
Make some toast and brew some coffee.
He no longer felt any emotion or guilt about the tragedy that had happened last night.
There was just a quiet, dry sense of satisfaction that things had gone according to plan.
“Well, today is the seminar.”
His daily routine now consisted of secretly planning his death.
