- Chapter 17 - A Sword Out, Heaven and Earth Change Color
From the moment Mo Chen gripped the treasured sword, the Heaven-Slaying Sword-Drawing Technique within him began to surge wildly. A vast and boundless force erupted from nowhere, flooding his entire body, filling him with the terrifying illusion that he could cleave the world apart with a single strike.
He had no idea where this overwhelming power came from, but he knew one thing—he had to release it. If he did not, he would die.
With solemn expression, Mo Chen lifted his wrist, raising the sword upright before his chest. The blade’s tip pointed first toward the ground, then slowly turned upward toward the heavens. In that instant, a dazzling silver-white divine radiance burst forth from the sword, engulfing him completely before shooting straight into the skies.
The silver-white pillar of light pierced through the blazing noontide sun, visible even from far away. From a distance, it looked like a colossal silver sword thrusting through heaven itself.
As divine light split the skies, the heavens instantly darkened. Pitch-black storm clouds gathered out of nowhere, covering the entire city of Yingdu in suffocating gloom. The clouds rolled endlessly, thunder roared, lightning flashed—like the onset of an apocalyptic calamity.
Buzz!
A single sword hum echoed through all of Yingdu.
Moments later, countless swords across the city trembled in resonance, singing in unison as though in worship of a supreme sovereign, or in fear of something beyond mortal comprehension. All across the nations, swordsmen looked up at the colossal heavenly sword piercing the firmament, and their hearts held but a single thought—
This is the true Way of the Sword!
Inside Yingdu’s royal palace.
The sudden darkness threw the palace into confusion. Chu Kuangge stood at King Kang of Chu’s side, both hands gripping his sword tightly, eyes scanning the surroundings to guard against assassins.
Buzz!
Suddenly, the treasured sword in his arms quivered violently, releasing a crisp, clear hum.
“This sword intent—monstrous beyond belief!” Chu Kuangge’s right hand clenched tightly around the trembling weapon, his eyes straining through the darkness toward the source. His face was pale with shock; fear surged within his gaze.
In his perception, that sword intent pierced heaven and earth itself, saturated with an aura of utter annihilation—like it would cleave the very world in two.
Within the divine temple.
At the instant heaven and earth changed color, a vast, majestic power descended from the void, enveloping the cross-legged Yue Linglong. In but a breath, her aura soared severalfold, becoming even more ethereal and inscrutable.
Standing beside her, Yue Liuli stared blankly, completely at a loss. She had no idea what was happening.
After merely two breaths, Yue Linglong opened her violet eyes—deep as an unfathomable abyss. Her body radiated a soft white glow, like the moon illuminating the temple’s darkness in exquisite detail. She seemed like a goddess stepping forth from the river of time, exuding boundless majesty.
Her lips curved into a gentle smile. In a voice like moonlight she whispered:
“Auspicious is this day, glorious is this hour. A gift from the world itself—the last inheritance of the Witch Path. Outsider… this time, I truly must thank you.”
“Elder Sister?” Yue Liuli whispered nervously, hand covering her lips as she gazed at the unfathomable aura of Yue Linglong.
But Yue Linglong did not respond. She rose gracefully, lotus steps light as air, and in an instant appeared at the temple’s gates.
Liuli froze in shock—her sister’s figure stood outside the temple, while a vivid image of her still remained before her. Never had she seen such a technique. Only when Yue Linglong’s true body disappeared beyond the gates did the lingering image gradually fade away.
At the auction hall.
“Heaven-Slaying Sword-Drawing Technique!”
Mo Chen’s eyes were tranquil, undisturbed by the chaos around him. With a flick of his wrist, he gently swung the sword downward—not with force, but softly, like a child playing, like a sword dancing on the breeze.
At that strike, the world itself fell silent.
The elite guards encircling him froze as though time had stopped, like painted figures in a still canvas. Their eyes were vacant, their bodies stiff, movements halted completely.
The storming clouds above split apart, as though slashed in two by an invisible blade!
From Mo Chen’s position the clouds divided, rolling back to either side, lightning crackling in the rift. From the massive gap poured the dazzling sun, cascading like a waterfall, bathing Yingdu in divine brilliance as though it were a realm of immortals.
Boom…!
Bolts of purple lightning snaked down from the heavens, striking toward Mo Chen. Each thunderous arc crashed onto his sword. In moments, the blade glowed red-hot, like a newly forged weapon fresh from the furnace.
Mo Chen gripped the blade calmly, expression serene, utterly unfazed.
At that instant, with his right hand holding the crimson blade wreathed in lightning, divine light surging skyward, his figure was like that of a god or demon. The sight was seared forever into the minds of all present. To their dying breaths, none would forget this moment.
Taking a single step forward, Mo Chen advanced. The frozen soldiers remained rigid, blind to his presence, as though he did not exist.
He strode toward the high platform, swept his sword, and shattered the cage imprisoning Snow Girl. Casually discarding the thunder-wreathed blade, he cradled the stunned Snow Girl in his left arm. With his right, he pulled Yan—cheeks puffed full of food—into his embrace. Blossoms of divine radiance bloomed above his head as he tread upon the void, carrying the two beauties away.
Long after Mo Chen had departed, the crowd finally began to stir, dazed and trembling.
They stared at the skies, now calm once more, their faces stiff with disbelief, eyes filled with terror, awe, and reverence alike.
“Was that… truly human?” a young noble whispered hoarsely, eyes blank as he stared into the void.
“With a single swing, heaven and earth changed color. With one stroke, thunder roared. Such divine might—how could it belong to a man?” muttered a middle-aged noble, collapsing weakly to his knees, wiping the cold sweat from his brow with a trembling hand.
“Could it be… the divine emissary of the Eastern Emperor Taiyi himself?” another noble gasped, his pale face shining with both terror and fanatic devotion.
A braver young lord crept forward, approaching one of the motionless Luan guards. Before he could reach it, a breeze swept past—instantly, the hundred rigid guards dissolved into nothing, vanishing like mist before the morning sun.
“Ah—!” Even the bold young man cried out in horror, stumbling to the ground in panic.
Normally, his clumsiness would have earned laughter and ridicule, but at this moment, the hall was deathly silent.
“They… they turned to ash! Gone without a trace!” someone stammered, face ghostly pale.
High above in the void, the silver divine light in Mo Chen’s eyes slowly receded, returning him to his usual demeanor. He held two beauties in his arms, yet his face was not joyful—instead, his brows furrowed deeply.
“Lord God, what in the world just happened?!” Mo Chen demanded inwardly as he strode through the air.
The instant he had gripped the sword, he had felt something wrong—the Heaven-Slaying Sword-Drawing Technique had activated uncontrollably, producing an immense power he could not restrain.
When he executed the technique, he had clearly sensed a mysterious force piercing the barriers of this world, rushing out into the boundless void. For just an instant, he had glimpsed a colossal golden figure, sword in hand.
Though only a fleeting glance, the image was burned into his heart—so vivid he could never forget it. That golden figure seemed to be striding toward this world. Beyond that, he could discern nothing.
“We’ll discuss this later. For now, you’ve created enormous trouble,” the Lord God’s voice replied, tinged with rare urgency. “The power you just unleashed exceeded this world’s limits by far. Heaven itself has noticed you. It will likely create an Executor to deal with you. You must leave this place at once.”
Mo Chen’s steps faltered. His tone held both helplessness and indifference as he muttered, “You’re already too late.”
For even as he spoke, a figure suddenly appeared three zhang before him. Even with Mo Chen’s sharp eyes, he could only glimpse a faint, hazy outline.
“Successor of the ancient Witch Path, Yue Linglong, greets you, sir. I wonder—might you be willing to visit my humble abode for a talk?” Yue Linglong stood poised in the void, bowing slightly, her violet eyes calm as they studied him.
“A beauty’s invitation—whether convenient or not, it is always convenient,” Mo Chen replied, his heart wary, though his face bore only a gentle smile, his voice soft.
To the average person, he might have seemed nothing more than a frivolous young lord. But to Yue Linglong’s gaze, his mask was meaningless—like a lamp in the dark, impossible to conceal.
