As soon as dawn broke, Song Jing, along with her daughter Liu Ruqing, arrived at the Prince’s mansion.
Song Jing smoothed her oily hair and turned to look at her daughter Liu Ruqing. Liu Ruqing was 16 years old and shared a slight resemblance with Liu Shuwei. While her appearance couldn’t be called stunning, she was still considered pretty.
Song Jing grew more and more satisfied as she looked at her daughter. She adjusted the magpie-shaped gold hairpin on Liu Ruqing’s head and lowered her voice, “Ruqing, you must be clever when you see the Prince. Our mother and daughter are counting on you.”
A blush crept onto Liu Ruqing’s face, and she said, “Mother, what are you talking about?”
Song Jing smiled. How could she not see what was on Liu Ruqing’s mind? But after a moment’s thought, she continued, “You must remember, you’re here because you miss your sister so much that you begged me to bring you back to see her. If the Prince won’t let your sister go home, then you beg to stay in the mansion to accompany your sister…”
A flash of jealousy crossed Liu Ruqing’s face, and she said impatiently, “I know, I know.”
The reason why they, mother and daughter, came here was ostensibly to take Liu Shuwei home, but in reality, they wanted to use Liu Shuwei to get close to the Prince. Even if the Prince didn’t like her for now, as long as Liu Ruqing stayed in the mansion, she would have a chance to win the Prince’s favor.
So what if she wasn’t as beautiful as Liu Shuwei? Men were all the same. No man could resist an aggressive woman, especially a beautiful one. Liu Ruqing was very confident in her appearance.
Inside, not only did Jiang Han receive the news, but Liu Shuwei did as well. A servant reported that the Liu family missed her and wanted to send someone to take her back for a few days.
“Miss me?” Liu Shuwei pondered these two words for a moment, a mocking smile slowly curving her lips. If they said the dogs in the Liu family missed her, she might believe it a little, but that the Liu family missed her, she was afraid they just wanted to squeeze some more value out of her.
Thinking of the things that happened in the Liu family before, Liu Shuwei felt a wave of nausea. She showed no signs of it on her face and asked, “Who came?”
Shui Lu, who was braiding her hair, replied, “It’s the old lady and the young miss.”
Liu Shuwei’s eyes moved slightly: “Just the two of them?”
Shui Lu nodded. Liu Shuwei’s lips curled into a mocking smile. They wanted to take her back but didn’t even bring a sedan chair, and they brought their own daughter without a sedan chair carrier? Her stepmother must have had another plan.
Just as Shui Lu finished braiding Liu Shuwei’s hair, Liu Shuwei was about to go out, and Shui Lu chased after her and lowered her voice, “Miss, the Princess seems to be going there too.”
Liu Shuwei paused and then continued walking with an unchanged expression, saying, “Let’s go.”
On the other side, Jiang Han, after washing up, finally remembered the ins and outs of the situation. Liu Shuwei had only been in the Prince’s mansion for half a month, but she had known the male lead, Qi Ze, for much longer.
Perhaps due to some attraction between the male and female leads, after Liu Shuwei saved the male lead, he took a liking to her and, under the pretext of repaying her, got in touch with her. Later, the Prince gradually fell in love with her, but his mother, the Empress Dowager, did not allow him to marry such a woman of low status. So, the male lead had to keep their relationship a secret and asked Liu Shuwei to wait for him.
However, half a month ago, the Liu family’s business failed, and in order to please the boss of a trading firm, they thought of giving their daughter to the boss. Who should they send? Naturally, they would send their sickly but stunningly beautiful daughter. The Liu family was a merchant family, and in their eyes, profit was the most important thing. A daughter was nothing.
What they didn’t know was that Liu Shuwei and the male lead had already developed feelings for each other, so on the way, the male lead had people intercept them and secretly sent a letter to the Liu family, revealing his identity and sending some silver notes.
And now, half a month after Liu Shuwei arrived at the Prince’s mansion, the Liu family mother and daughter finally took action. They wanted to take this opportunity to get involved with the Prince.
Jiang Han originally didn’t want to go, but after thinking about it, although she had transmigrated, the original owner had indeed done something wrong to the female lead. She wanted to take this opportunity to make amends, after all, the female lead would be the future empress, and it would definitely be beneficial to have a good relationship with her now.
So Jiang Han thought about it and went there. When she arrived, Liu Shuwei hadn’t arrived yet, and only two people were sitting in the living room.
Jiang Han sized them up and recognized them. She walked in slowly and said, “I wonder which family you are from? What brings you to the Prince’s mansion?”
Jiang Han sat in the main seat under the two people’s gaze. Song Jing had already seen her identity from her clothing and hurriedly said, “This commoner woman has met the Princess. I am Liu Shuwei’s mother. I came here because my daughter misses her sister, so I took the liberty to visit. I hope Your Highness will forgive me for my rudeness.”
Having said that, she pulled Liu Ruqing beside her and they both curtsied to her.
Jiang Han looked at the mother and daughter. Liu Shuwei’s stepmother was quite beautiful, and even though she was older, she still had a certain charm. As for Liu Ruqing, she glanced at her and came to a conclusion – she was not as beautiful as Liu Shuwei.
While Jiang Han was sizing them up, the two were also secretly sizing her up, especially Liu Ruqing. When she saw the clothes, jewelry, and accessories Jiang Han was wearing, her eyes nearly popped out of her head. This outfit alone must have cost as much as a year’s income from her family’s shop, not to mention those seemingly extremely expensive jewels.
Liu Ruqing was both envious and jealous. Looking at Jiang Han’s face, which was no less beautiful than her sister’s, she thought viciously, ‘With the princess being so beautiful, it must be difficult for her sister to have a good life in the mansion.’
Jiang Han didn’t know what she was thinking, but she didn’t have a good feeling about this vicious stepsister. In the original story, it was she who had instigated her father to give Liu Shuwei away and had done many other disgusting things. Whether from a reader’s perspective or from her current identity, Jiang Han found it difficult to have any goodwill towards the person in front of her.
Therefore, she simply replied with an indifferent “Hmm” and said, “Since you’re waiting for Miss Liu, please wait a while longer. She’ll be here soon.”
The mother and daughter responded, but they exchanged glances secretly. Liu Ruqing felt a little proud in her heart. Listening to the way the princess addressed Liu Shuwei, it seemed that Liu Shuwei was not having a good time in the mansion.
Jiang Han naturally didn’t expect that her casual remark would give the two such a hint. Soon, Liu Shuwei arrived. She came in and first gave Jiang Han a curtsey without looking sideways, and after Jiang Han told her to rise, she sat down and looked at the two people opposite her.
“Mother, sister,” Liu Shuwei’s expression remained unchanged, and she asked somewhat gently, “Why did you come?”
“Naturally, it’s to see how you’re doing,” Song Jing quickly replied, “You don’t know, your father and your sister have missed you very much since you’ve been gone, especially your sister. She insisted on coming to see you.”
Having said that, she pushed Liu Ruqing, who was a little absent-minded, aside. Liu Ruqing had looked around and hadn’t seen the prince, and was feeling a little disappointed. Being pushed by Song Jing, she became a little annoyed and perfunctorily looked at Liu Shuwei and said, “Yes, sister, I came to see you. I miss you so much. If you can’t go back with me, can I stay in the prince’s mansion with you?”
A hint of a cold smile flashed in Liu Shuwei’s eyes, but her face remained gentle. “Sister, you’ve come at an inopportune time. The prince has gone to court. Why are you talking about the prince when you’ve come all this way to see me?”
This sentence sounded like a complaint between sisters, but in fact, it was to attract Jiang Han’s attention. Seeing Jiang Han looking in their direction, Song Jing immediately nudged Liu Ruqing with her elbow and laughed, “How could that be? Qingqing just mentioned it casually. The most important thing is that she misses her sister, right, Qingqing?”
Reminded by Song Jing, Liu Ruqing immediately remembered her task and quickly said, “Yes, sister, I came to see you. I miss you so much. If you can’t go back with me, can you let me stay with you in the prince’s mansion?”
If Jiang Han hadn’t been there, Liu Shuwei would have burst out laughing. After only a few words, Liu Ruqing’s fox tail was already showing.
Seeing this, Liu Shuwei shook her head and smiled, “There’s no need to worry, sister. I can go back to the mansion with you.”
Liu Ruqing’s heart skipped a beat, and she blurted out, “Sister, will the Prince agree to you leaving with us?”
Liu Shuwei frowned slightly and asked, “Why wouldn’t the Prince agree?”
Liu Ruqing was about to say, “Because he likes you, he’s afraid that my father will give you away again,” but Song Jing quickly pulled her back. Song Jing glared at her thoughtless daughter and then dryly smiled at Liu Shuwei, “Weiwei, there’s no hurry to go home. It’s just that we’re worried that you’ll be lonely in the mansion without anyone to keep you company.”
By saying this, their meaning was already clear. Song Jing looked at Liu Shuwei expectantly, hoping she would give her some response, but Liu Shuwei just frowned and then looked up at Jiang Han, who was seated. “I don’t have the authority to decide this.”
Jiang Han was enjoying the drama and was caught off guard by Liu Shuwei’s gaze. She blinked in confusion, then quickly reacted and cleared her throat.
Assuming the air of an authority figure, she sneered, “Second Miss Liu, does this mean you want to stay in the Prince’s mansion?”
Song Jing chuckled dryly and explained, “It’s to keep Weiwei company.”
Jiang Han didn’t want to beat around the bush, so she simply said, “The Prince’s mansion is not a place for just anyone to come and go. Don’t you dare overestimate your status.”
Liu Ruqing, who had always been pampered by her family, couldn’t tolerate such humiliation. She immediately said, “I just miss my sister. How can you, Your Highness, slander me like this?”
Jiang Han scoffed, “Don’t try to play tricks on me. Guards, get them out of here.”
Jiang Han had considered the original owner’s personality and felt that it was reasonable for her to drive away people who coveted the prince, especially since this person didn’t get along with Liu Shuwei, and the prince would probably not blame her for this.
Song Jing and her daughter were still shouting that they just missed Liu Shuwei as they were dragged out by the guards, but Jiang Han didn’t even bother to listen. She got up and was about to leave.
Halfway through, she suddenly remembered Liu Shuwei was still there, so she sat back down and looked at Liu Shuwei. Their eyes met, and Jiang Han snorted coldly, “Don’t think I’m helping you. I just can’t stand anyone getting close to the Prince.”
After saying that, she swept a glance at Liu Shuwei and left.
Liu Shuwei watched Jiang Han’s back and a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes. She had thought that Jiang Han would also ridicule her, but she didn’t. Recalling how Jiang Han had looked at her in confusion when she had directed the topic towards her earlier, Liu Shuwei suddenly felt that this princess seemed to have changed.
She still seemed to be the same towards her, but neither in the kitchen yesterday nor in their encounter today had Jiang Han shown any hostility towards her.
Was it because the Prince’s punishment had scared her? But as far as she knew, the general’s daughter was not timid.
So, why was that?
