The Moon Shines on Me (GL) - Chapter 10
The meal was joyful, and even Shen Yuan uncharacteristically ate half a bowl more of rice tonight.
After dinner, as usual, Gu Shiwei half-coaxed and half-persuaded Shen Yuan to drink a bowl of chicken soup brewed with traditional Chinese medicine.
Aunt Wang stood by, watching them with a smile. Seeing Shen Yuan so obedient to Gu Shiwei, she was also filled with relief.
She had watched the young lady grow up. Although she looked approachable and polite on the outside, she was actually a serious person with strict principles on the inside. She had always kept to herself, and for over twenty years, had never brought an outsider home. Before Miss Shen came, where would this house have such a warm atmosphere?
Aunt Wang didn’t know why, but she suddenly felt that the young lady had gained some of the vitality that a person her age should have.
This Miss Shen was well-mannered and clearly an easy-going child. No wonder the young lady was willing to bring her home.
Gu Shiwei: “Aunt Wang, you don’t need to come over to cook lunch tomorrow. I’m taking Miss Shen out to eat.”
Aunt Wang smiled and nodded in agreement.
After Shen Yuan finished the soup, Gu Shiwei pulled her downstairs again. They were continuing the run they hadn’t finished today.
Exercise is not an overnight matter. Shen Yuan still went with a blank expression and came back breathless. In contrast, Gu Shiwei was at ease. She even took advantage of Shen Yuan resting on a bench to run several more laps around the community, showing no signs of exhaustion when she returned.
“Relax your muscles for half an hour when you get back to your room. Don’t drink cold water. Shower after half an hour, and go to bed early after your shower. Don’t stay up late,” Gu Shiwei instructed Shen Yuan upon arriving home.
Shen Yuan pursed her lips, nodded, and returned to her room. Gu Shiwei glanced at her retreating back, then turned and twisted open another door.
The next day.
Shen Yuan dragged her two practically disabled legs out of bed with great difficulty. She washed up with a look of despair, then supported herself on the door, inching her way out.
Gu Shiwei in the living room seemed to have just returned from her morning run. She was wrapped in a tight sports outfit, revealing a section of her fair, slender waist and her straight, long legs. Obvious abs could be seen on her stomach.
Gu Shiwei suddenly froze when she saw Shen Yuan’s motion of leaning on the door.
It seemed she hadn’t expected Shen Yuan to appear in such a strange posture. Gu Shiwei’s expression momentarily solidified.
Gu Shiwei: “Your legs…”
Shen Yuan: “I’m fine.”
The two voices rang out simultaneously in the empty living room.
Shen Yuan took a deep breath, as if to prove something, and quickly walked up to Gu Shiwei, poured herself a glass of warm water, and slowly drank it.
Gu Shiwei held her sweat-damp jacket and took a step back, moving a little further from Shen Yuan. After a while, she said, “I’m going to take a shower.”
Shen Yuan looked up from her cup, nodded, and lowered her head again.
Gu Shiwei’s figure was perfect. The muscles gained from years of exercise were well-defined and sleek. Those lines were not easily noticed when she was dressed, but when accidentally exposed, they were very model-like. Even as a woman, Shen Yuan felt a little flush.
When Gu Shiwei entered the room, Shen Yuan retracted her gaze.
She sat down on the sofa.
Just as she was about to turn on the TV, the doorbell rang.
Through the video doorbell, Shen Yuan saw a woman standing outside the door. The woman was wearing a black outfit, had a wolf cut hairstyle, and had several large bags placed by her legs. She looked like someone visiting relatives during the New Year.
Shen Yuan went back to Gu Shiwei’s bedroom and knocked on her bathroom door. “Miss Gu, there’s a woman in a black outfit with a wolf cut hairstyle ringing the doorbell outside. Should I invite her in?”
The sound of water in the bathroom was loud, and Shen Yuan’s voice was swallowed by the running water. She had no choice but to knock loudly on the door again. The moment she did, the splashing sound in the bathroom stopped. Shen Yuan waited for about ten seconds, and the bathroom door opened with a ‘click’ from the inside. Gu Shiwei’s exquisite face appeared before her.
Her fair face was flushed from the steam, and her light-colored eyes were as clean and pure as agate, looking straight at Shen Yuan.
Gu Shiwei must have opened the door in a hurry, not even having time to put on clothes, only wrapped in a white towel covering her vital parts. Water droplets from her hair were still dripping down, sliding into her collarbone and then flowing toward the edge of the towel.
Shen Yuan’s eyelid suddenly twitched.
She only glanced once before turning her back, closing her eyes, and repeating the same sentence in a calm voice.
“Oh, that’s Lin Qinghuan, my friend. Let her in,” Gu Shiwei said.
Shen Yuan: “Mm.”
Shen Yuan quickly walked out of the room. She took a deep breath, and only after exhaling the wave of heat that had rolled through her body did she open the door and welcome the person outside.
Lin Qinghuan had been waiting outside for several minutes and had been thinking of complaining, but upon seeing Shen Yuan’s face, she instantly put on a proper smile: “Miss Shen, good morning.”
Shen Yuan: “Good morning.”
Shen Yuan stepped aside to let Lin Qinghuan come in with her bags. She seemed to come here often, walking familiar paths to the living room and putting the things down.
Shen Yuan shuffled a few steps behind her, then suddenly remembered to pour her a cup of tea.
Bending over too quickly, Shen Yuan couldn’t help but let out a soft hiss of pain when she straightened up holding the teapot. Then, she rubbed her waist with one hand and sat down opposite Lin Qinghuan, hobbling slightly.
Lin Qinghuan: “???”
What was going on???
She didn’t realize Gu Shiwei’s progress was so fast?
So eager? Did she engage in such strenuous activity as soon as she recovered from her illness?
Where was she? Was she still indulging in her tender embrace and hadn’t woken up?
Lin Qinghuan opened her mouth with a complex expression. Finally, she couldn’t resist asking: “Miss Shen, where is Gu Shiwei?”
“She just finished exercising… and is taking a shower.”
After saying that, Shen Yuan touched her ear, still feeling a bit warm.
Hearing Shen Yuan’s words, Lin Qinghuan felt like the sky had collapsed.
Could it be that she… had rung that cursed doorbell during the couple’s most intimate moment and cursedly interrupted their affection?
She was truly damnable!
Lin Qinghuan suddenly didn’t dare to look at Shen Yuan opposite her, who was holding a teacup and slowly sipping tea. She hadn’t expected their relationship to progress so quickly. If she remembered correctly, Gu Shiwei had only been back in the country for a week, right?
This speed was unprecedented.
“Ahem… Miss Shen, I’m sorry for dropping by unannounced and disturbing your rest,” Lin Qinghuan had never been so embarrassed in her life. Her toes were curling with awkwardness, and she dared not lift her head.
“You haven’t disturbed me. I’m only temporarily staying here,” Shen Yuan said, putting down the teacup.
Lin Qinghuan was puzzled: “Ah? What do you mean by ‘temporarily staying’? Aren’t you two living together?”
“Living together?”
Did her situation with Gu Shiwei count as living together?
“Aren’t you two dating?” Lin Qinghuan continued to press.
Shen Yuan: “No… We aren’t…”
“No? Why are you living together if you’re not dating?”
Wait, Lin Qinghuan suddenly thought, could it be that Gu Shiwei, the scumbag, slept with Miss Shen but wouldn’t give her a title?
Had Gu Shiwei become such a jerk after two years apart?
Just as the two of them fell into an awkward silence, Gu Shiwei walked out of the room: “Why are you asking so many questions? Did you bring all the stuff?”
“Why, can’t I ask? I took the trouble to help you ask my grandpa for so many good medicinal ingredients, and this is the attitude you use towards your benefactor?” Lin Qinghuan said with a look of disappointment.
Gu Shiwei didn’t reply. Lin Qinghuan suddenly leaned in and asked another question: “Are you two really not dating?”
Gu Shiwei pushed her away with a finger: “No, Miss Shen is just temporarily staying at my place during her probation period.”
“Probation period? Are you two superior and subordinate in the same company?” Lin Qinghuan was full of gossip, her eyes darting back and forth between Shen Yuan and Gu Shiwei.
Gu Shiwei nodded: “Mm.”
Lin Qinghuan’s mind raced, and after a moment, she suddenly exclaimed: “That’s too thrilling, superior and subordinate!”
Gu Shiwei: “?”
Shen Yuan: “?”
“Then do you like Miss Shen?”
After asking this question, Lin Qinghuan’s eyes, shining with the soul of gossip, stared intensely at Gu Shiwei, not missing a single subtle expression.
Shen Yuan also suddenly looked up at Gu Shiwei, but she looked confused.
Why would Gu Shiwei like her out of the blue? What was the basis for this friend asking this question?
Lin Qinghuan: “Gu Shiwei, why aren’t you answering my question?”
Gu Shiwei first refilled the hot water in Shen Yuan’s cup, then turned to Lin Qinghuan and said, “You can ask, but I’m not obligated to answer.”
“You’re doing this again. Oh well, it’s your business anyway. Why am I, an outsider, worrying unnecessarily?” After self-criticism, Lin Qinghuan took out all the large bags she had brought and placed them on the table. There were traditional Chinese medicines, Western medicines, supplements, spices, and so on. The variety was numerous and comprehensive, clearly showing great care.
“Thank you,” Gu Shiwei said. “Please thank Grandpa for me too.”
Mentioning this made Lin Qinghuan annoyed. She said indignantly, “He’s closer to you than to me. The moment I said it was for you, he picked the best from the courtyard.”
Gu Shiwei: “I’ll visit him in person another day.”
Lin Qinghuan: “Suit yourself. Anyway, I’ll pass on the message: someone else’s child.”
Lin Qinghuan was ready to leave after delivering the goods, but as she stepped out the door, she suddenly turned back.
Lin Qinghuan mysteriously leaned close to Shen Yuan and whispered in her ear: “I almost forgot to tell you, Gu Shiwei and I are childhood friends. Don’t overthink it, we clash roles, there’s no way we’ll ever be together.”
Shen Yuan nodded thoughtfully: “Is that so…”
Seeing Shen Yuan’s calm expression, Lin Qinghuan suddenly, like an attention-seeker, raised her hand in front of Shen Yuan: “Is it that hard to tell? I’m a total top.”
Shen Yuan ignored Lin Qinghuan’s hand, slightly tilted her head, and looked at Gu Shiwei’s profile with a very subtle gaze.
Lin Qinghuan: “Don’t look, she is too.”
Shen Yuan, caught peeking, didn’t show any embarrassment. Instead, she smiled at Lin Qinghuan.
Lin Qinghuan finally concluded: “So you can relax. I won’t be an obstacle to you two.”
Shen Yuan: “Okay.”
After a few more exchanges, Lin Qinghuan finally left. Shen Yuan sat back down on the sofa, holding her teacup and staring blankly.
“Shen Yuan, don’t listen to her nonsense.” Gu Shiwei stared at her calm face for a while, then suddenly said, “That’s just how Lin Qinghuan is. That’s why she still hasn’t found a partner.”
Shen Yuan: “Mm, I didn’t take what she said to heart. You don’t need to specifically explain it to me.”
“Shen Yuan.”
Gu Shiwei suddenly stood up from the sofa. She walked over to Shen Yuan and lifted her chin: “Why is your face so pale? Do you have low bl00d sugar?”
Shen Yuan: “A little.”
Gu Shiwei quickly squatted down, took out a box of candy from the drawer, and placed it in front of Shen Yuan. She first unwrapped a piece and fed it to Shen Yuan. Then she immediately scooped out a bowl of the seafood porridge she had cooked before her morning run. It was ready to be eaten now.
“Do you often have low bl00d sugar in the morning?” Gu Shiwei asked Shen Yuan while blowing on the porridge.
“Only when I skip breakfast.”
After Shen Yuan finished speaking, seeing Gu Shiwei frown, she suddenly and inexplicably added, “It’s okay, I’m used to it.”
Hearing Shen Yuan’s last sentence, Gu Shiwei’s expression suddenly became very serious: “How can you get used to something like that? It’s very dangerous. From now on, you must eat breakfast on time every day, understand?”
Shen Yuan didn’t speak, sitting on the sofa and calmly making eye contact with Gu Shiwei, who was kneeling by the coffee table.
Gu Shiwei stared at Shen Yuan’s expressionless face, her tone suddenly softening: “What’s wrong? Was I too harsh just now?”
“No,” Shen Yuan said. “It’s just that it’s been a long time since anyone has spoken to me like that.”
