The Moon Shines on Me (GL) - Chapter 15
The next day, noon.
At exactly twelve o’clock, Shen Yuan stood up from her desk on time.
After tidying up her things, she was about to go look for Gu Shiwei, but after only a few steps, she was stopped by Lu Qingwan.
“Sister Yuan Yuan, the cafeteria is undergoing renovations this week, so there’s no food. Let’s go eat outside.”
Lu Qingwan hadn’t paid close attention to the notice in the company group chat yesterday, and only realized no one was there when she arrived at the cafeteria.
She heard it was a renovation order personally issued by Little President Gu. Could it be because Sister Yuan Yuan had a bad stomach that day that Little President Gu decided to renovate the cafeteria?
Lu Qingwan stared at Shen Yuan’s face, her mind starting to wander.
Shen Yuan: “…Okay.”
A party of two turned into a party of three, and then inexplicably became a party of four.
Shen Yuan sat in the passenger seat, with Assistant Chen and Lu Qingwan in the back. They seemed to be conversing in low voices about something. Shen Yuan leaned back tiredly, and inadvertently heard Lu Qingwan quietly say, “Little President Gu is driving herself, and we’re in the back seat. Assistant Chen, has the world gone completely mad?” “Assistant Chen, are Little President Gu and Sister Yuan Yuan very close?” “A returnee CEO is different, haha, this is too down-to-earth.”
Assistant Chen blinked, signaling Lu Qingwan to speak less.
Lu Qingwan looked confused: “Assistant Chen, what’s wrong with your eyes? Did something get in? Do you want me to blow it out for you?”
Assistant Chen: “…”
Too oblivious, beyond saving.
Amidst Lu Qingwan’s whispers and Assistant Chen’s soft reminders, they arrived at a restaurant. Gu Shiwei had reserved a private room in advance, and a waiter greeted them warmly as they entered.
It was time to order again. After Gu Shiwei finished ordering, she handed the menu to Shen Yuan. Shen Yuan saw that Gu Shiwei had ordered a string of expensive delicacies and rare treats, one of which was the 888 yuan per piece Honey-Hearted Fortune Prawn, followed by ‘x4’. For some reason, at that moment, Shen Yuan’s hand holding the menu felt a bit weak.
“What’s wrong? Not to your liking?”
Gu Shiwei leaned slightly, moving closer to Shen Yuan.
“No.”
Shen Yuan braced herself and ordered a few dishes that didn’t look too expensive, then handed the menu to Assistant Chen.
Assistant Chen acted as if she had received a hot potato and handed the menu to Lu Qingwan without even opening it.
Lu Qingwan looked at the dishes on the menu and the long string of numbers following them, her mouth forming an ‘O’ shape.
No way, who dares to order something that expensive?
Later, seeing that neither of them had ordered much, Gu Shiwei added a few more dishes to the menu.
While they waited for the food, the waiter brought over some fruit and snacks. Gu Shiwei pushed a plate of almond slices towards Shen Yuan and personally peeled an orange for her.
The two people huddled together on the other side, nibbling on blueberries, secretly glancing at Shen Yuan and Gu Shiwei, their eyes filled with gossip.
They look so much like they’re dating, don’t they?
Little President Gu is so skilled at waiting on people, pouring tea one moment and peeling oranges the next. If you didn’t know better, you’d think Shen Yuan was the big boss.
When the dishes were served, Assistant Chen, determined not to repeat her mistake from last time, kept herself from turning the lazy Susan, unmovingly only taking food from the dishes directly in front of her.
Seeing her like this, Lu Qingwan thought she was just shy and frequently put food on her plate.
The glass lazy Susan spun wildly.
Assistant Chen: “…”
Maybe I should just resign myself; at least it would be more graceful, instead of being kicked out by security guards later. That would be embarrassing.
Gu Shiwei watched the two people opposite her, who were being so chummy, and gave a light cough.
The next second, a piece of shrimp meat appeared in Shen Yuan’s bowl.
Shen Yuan looked up at Gu Shiwei, meeting her smiling eyes.
The delicious, bouncy shrimp meat filled her entire mouth, and Shen Yuan’s eyes instantly lit up. The corners of her mouth slightly curled up, her expression showing a hint of satisfaction.
It was delicious, all right, but it was too expensive. That one bite cost her a whole day’s salary.
But since they were already here, it would be a shame not to eat more, so in the end, all three of them ate until their stomachs were bulging.
When they left the restaurant, the waiter even brought them take-home gifts.
After receiving the gifts, the way Lu Qingwan and Assistant Chen looked at Gu Shiwei changed. Before, they always referred to rich people like her as ‘wicked capitalists,’ but now, Lu Qingwan was willing to respectfully call Gu Shiwei a: Great Benefactor.
She envied Sister Yuan Yuan so much for being friends with such a wealthy President Gu. It was Lu Qingwan’s first time eating in such a luxurious restaurant.
And because they were tagging along with Sister Yuan Yuan, Gu Shiwei actually didn’t let them split the bill.
It was so touching.
As a result, when they returned to the company and Shen Yuan was pulled by Gu Shiwei into her office, the two of them walked away without looking back, acting as if they hadn’t seen a thing.
A sincere sigh of emotion came from the hallway: “They’re truly a match made in heaven.”
“Tell me about it.”
President’s Office.
Shen Yuan had too much tea at lunch and wasn’t sleepy, so she sat on the sofa and started playing on her phone after entering the office.
She was engrossed in her phone when a pleasant phone ringtone suddenly sounded in the office.
Gu Shiwei picked up her phone and saw that it was Lin Qinghuan calling, saying she was hosting a birthday party at a bar tonight and wanted Gu Shiwei to bring Shen Yuan along to eat cake.
Gu Shiwei checked the calendar and then said, “Okay.”
After hanging up, Gu Shiwei sat next to Shen Yuan and asked, “Do you remember Lin Qinghuan?”
“Lin Qinghuan?”
That dominant one?
Shen Yuan nodded: “I remember. What about her?”
Gu Shiwei: “It’s her birthday today. She’s hosting a birthday party at a bar tonight and wants you to join the fun. If you don’t want to go, it’s fine—”
Shen Yuan immediately said: “Okay.”
Lin Qinghuan was quite interesting, and Shen Yuan always felt a sense of familiarity with her. Since she had invited her, there was no harm in going.
Gu Shiwei saw how quickly Shen Yuan agreed and gave her a deep, meaningful look.
8 PM, Lunar Bar.
Gu Shiwei led Shen Yuan through the heavy door of the private room. They weren’t early, and seven or eight people were already seated inside.
Lin Qinghuan’s eyes flashed with surprise when she saw that Gu Shiwei had actually brought Shen Yuan. She looked back at Ji Xiao, whose face was dark on the sofa, and suddenly felt the situation might be a bit awkward.
“Miss Shen, long time no see.” Lin Qinghuan smiled and extended her hand to Shen Yuan.
“Long time no see, Miss Lin. Happy Birthday.”
Just as Shen Yuan was about to reach out to shake Lin Qinghuan’s hand, Gu Shiwei held her shoulder and turned her in a different direction, immediately pressing her into the soft leather sofa.
“I told you not to be too much…” Lin Qinghuan gave Gu Shiwei a difficult look, but instantly fell silent upon catching Gu Shiwei’s chilling gaze.
It was just a handshake. Why was she so possessive, like she was guarding against a thief?
She kept denying they were dating, but her actions spoke otherwise.
Gu Shiwei ignored Lin Qinghuan’s accusing look. She handed the two gifts in her other hand to Lin Qinghuan, and for once, gave Lin Qinghuan a kind look, genuinely saying, “Happy Birthday.”
“Oh… You shouldn’t have brought gifts when you came, you two… really.” Although Lin Qinghuan said this, her hands honestly took the two presents.
“Sister Shiwei, who is this?” While they were greeting each other, Ji Xiao suddenly walked over. A smile was on her face, but the amusement didn’t reach her eyes, and upon closer inspection, her expression was a bit stiff.
Gu Shiwei remained seated and said indifferently, “Her name is Shen Yuan. She is a new friend that Qinghuan and I have made.”
Upon hearing Gu Shiwei’s answer, Ji Xiao’s expression instantly became somewhat distorted, but under the colorful lights, her change was not easily noticed.
Ji Xiao took a few deep breaths, forced a smile through gritted teeth: “So it’s Miss Shen. Hello.”
Shen Yuan’s gaze shifted between Gu Shiwei and Ji Xiao. Her eyes flickered, and she nodded towards Ji Xiao: “Hello.”
After the greeting, Ji Xiao showed no intention of leaving and continued to stand in front of their seats. The atmosphere was a bit tense. Ji Xiao clenched her palms and said with a smile, “Sister Shiwei, aren’t you going to introduce me to Miss Shen?”
Gu Shiwei seemed to just remember. She put down her wine glass and said, “This is Miss Ji, Ji Xiao.”
Shen Yuan was leaning back on the sofa and nodded toward Ji Xiao. Her entire face fell into Ji Xiao’s view—cold as ice, clean and striking. Although she was looking up, her aura was like that of a superior.
Ji Xiao inexplicably felt she was a step below Shen Yuan. A flash of grievance crossed her face, and her eyes instantly reddened. “Sister Shiwei, didn’t you just return to the country not long ago? How did you get a girlfriend so quickly?”
Hearing this, Shen Yuan was stunned: “You misunderstood. I’m not Miss Gu’s girlfriend. We are just ordinary friends.”
Ji Xiao’s tightly furrowed brow instantly relaxed, but her eyes still held a strong wariness when she looked at Shen Yuan.
“Sister Shiwei, is what Miss Shen said true?”
Gu Shiwei: “Yes.”
Ji Xiao bit her lip, anxiously wanting to sit on Gu Shiwei’s other side, but Lin Qinghuan immediately sensed her intention. Gu Shiwei’s attitude was already so obvious, so how could Lin Qinghuan let Ji Xiao come over and cause trouble? So, while Ji Xiao was still far away, she quickly sat down on Gu Shiwei’s right side, safeguarding her.
Shen Yuan was leaning against the wall, and the spot next to Gu Shiwei was taken by Lin Qinghuan. Unable to interject, Ji Xiao could only sit on the other side with a dark face.
Although it was called a birthday party, it wasn’t just about eating cake. Lin Qinghuan had the servers prepare drinks and refreshments in advance. Lin Qinghuan first toasted everyone, and then they started dividing the cake.
The cake was very sweet. Shen Yuan liked sweets, and she scooped the cake into her mouth in small bites, her eyes curving like crescent moons as she ate.
Shen Yuan, eating the little cake, completely lost the aloof demeanor she had earlier. Seeing her, the crowd thought she had a bit of an adorable, contrasting charm.
More and more eyes in the private room focused on Shen Yuan. Gu Shiwei frowned and moved forward a little, leaning sideways to block their view.
From Gu Shiwei’s angle, Shen Yuan had a tiny dimple on her right cheek. It wasn’t very deep and disappeared in a flash.
She stared at Shen Yuan’s face several times, wondering if the cake was really that delicious. Why was Shen Yuan eating so happily?
Gu Shiwei also scooped a small piece into her mouth. A cloying sweetness instantly filled her mouth. She was unaccustomed to it and picked up her wine glass to take a sip and wash it down. Only when the extremely sweet taste had completely vanished did she turn back to look at Shen Yuan.
Perhaps the lighting was too dim. Shen Yuan accidentally got some cake on the corner of her mouth. The pink cream stuck to the corner of her lips, moving up and down as she opened her mouth.
Gu Shiwei didn’t know what came over her. Like an impulse, she reached out, cupped Shen Yuan’s chin, and lowered her head to wipe the cream from the corner of her mouth.
Shen Yuan’s skin felt wonderful, as soft as, perhaps even softer than, the cream. Gu Shiwei lingered, wiping repeatedly with her finger as if addicted, until Shen Yuan looked at her with a questioning gaze. Only then did she come to her senses and say, “You have cream on your mouth.”
Shen Yuan obediently maintained her tilted-up position: “Oh, thank you.”
Under the colorful lights, Gu Shiwei’s gentle actions and absorbed expression were fully visible to Ji Xiao not far away. Her calmed mood instantly turned to anger again. That woman still claimed to be just a common friend, yet she was clearly trying to deliberately seduce Sister Shiwei just now.
Ji Xiao looked at Gu Shiwei with red eyes a few times, then walked up to Lin Qinghuan and said something to her. Lin Qinghuan seemed a bit conflicted but eventually nodded at Ji Xiao.
