The Moon Shines on Me (GL) - Chapter 4
“Shen Yuan, why didn’t you reply to my message?”
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, Gu Shiwei squeezed in.
She caught her breath, and her light-colored eyes landed on Shen Yuan’s face.
Lu Qingwan also looked at Shen Yuan, curiosity written all over her face.
Didn’t they say they weren’t close? How did they even exchange WeChat contacts!
She hasn’t even added Yuan Yuan Sis’s WeChat yet!
She can resist not replying to a message from such a beautiful woman! Yuan Yuan Sis, you’re truly a block of wood.
“It was on silent, I didn’t notice. Is something wrong?” Shen Yuan said, taking out her phone to turn off the silent mode.
“Does something have to be wrong for me to look for you? Where are you two going?” Gu Shiwei’s gaze suddenly fell on Lu Qingwan’s arm, which was hooked around Shen Yuan’s. For some unknown reason, under her stare, Lu Qingwan involuntarily let go of Shen Yuan.
Lu Qingwan politely said, “We were just about to go to the employee cafeteria for lunch. Do you want to join us?”
Gu Shiwei: “I can.”
Shen Yuan: “?”
Lu Qingwan: “?”
Didn’t Yuan Yuan Sis say a beauty like her wouldn’t eat in the cafeteria?
Lu Qingwan’s eyes darted between Shen Yuan and Gu Shiwei. She couldn’t shake the feeling that the atmosphere between these two was a bit off.
Something fishy was going on.
Gu Shiwei was a bright and gorgeous beauty with an excellent aura, while Yuan Yuan Sis was the kind of beauty who was very subtle and ethereal, possessing a cold, clear sensibility reminiscent of a Jiangnan water town. When the two stood together, it was like the clash of a scorching summer and a frigid winter, yet…
They were strangely compatible.
While Lu Qingwan was lost in thought, a few more people crowded into the elevator. She and Shen Yuan were squeezed into the very back, with Gu Shiwei facing them, her palm resting on the elevator wall above their heads.
Lu Qingwan silently remarked to herself: She’s so tall.
She was a full head taller than both her and Yuan Yuan Sis.
“…My name is Lu Qingwan. Beautiful Sis, what should I call you?” Lu Qingwan looked up at Gu Shiwei, nearly blinded by the gem necklace on her neck.
“Gu Shiwei.”
Upon hearing the name Gu Shiwei, the gossip spirit in Lu Qingwan suddenly ignited.
“Your last name is Gu. Do you know Young CEO Gu?”
Gu Shiwei raised an eyebrow, her eyes finally moving from Shen Yuan’s face to the top of Lu Qingwan’s head. “Young CEO Gu? What about her?”
“Nothing really, I’m just curious about what she looks like.” Lu Qingwan thought the Young CEO Gu was very low-key. She was parachuted into the company but didn’t make a big announcement. Only some small rumors circulated. People said her methods were drastically different from her appearance. The rumor was that Young CEO Gu was very decisive and efficient, just like Madam Gu Qingfeng.
Gu Shiwei replied calmly, “I know her.”
After saying that, her gaze returned to Shen Yuan’s face.
When Lu Qingwan heard Gu Shiwei say she knew her, her eyes suddenly shone with a light of admiration.
Shen Yuan also looked at Gu Shiwei, though her eyes remained emotionless.
Lu Qingwan was excited: “Wei Wei Sis! Please elaborate!”
“Ding—”
The elevator doors opened, interrupting their conversation. Gu Shiwei stepped aside, stood on Shen Yuan’s other side, and exited the elevator.
Lu Qingwan didn’t get a chance to ask Gu Shiwei about the Young CEO Gu again along the way. Once they arrived at the cafeteria, they temporarily split up.
Zhaoyang was backed by the large tree of the Qingfeng Group, so even the employee cafeteria was buffet style, offering Chinese, Western, desserts, and fruit. The employee card provided a 70% discount, making it possible for even a common person like Lu Qingwan to eat three meals a day without blinking.
Amidst the dazzling array of food, Shen Yuan chose a simple Yangzhou fried rice, a small slice of cake, and a cup of juice. Then, she selected a corner table and sat down.
After sitting down, Shen Yuan took out her phone and sent a WeChat message to the big sister at the milk tea shop, informing her that she was working overtime and couldn’t make it to her part-time job today, requesting the day off.
Not long after, Lu Qingwan arrived. She carried a large bowl of bright red spicy hot pot, a plate of omurice, and various fruits, and sat down next to Shen Yuan. Her hometown was a famous spice-loving province in the south. Seeing Shen Yuan only eating so little, she quickly scooped a chopstick full of vegetables from her own bright red bowl onto Shen Yuan’s, muttering, “Yuan Yuan Sis, you’re too thin, eat more.”
“Wei Wei Sis, we’re here!”
Lu Qingwan, sharp-eyed, looked up and spotted the glittering figure in the crowd.
She even waved to Gu Shiwei.
Her enthusiasm made it seem like they weren’t just introduced, but old friends who had known each other for years.
Gu Shiwei carried a plate of steak, with a few round takoyaki balls next to it.
She walked straight over and sat down opposite Shen Yuan.
Although the employee cafeteria had been decorated to be as high-end as possible, Gu Shiwei’s expensive outfit instantly elevated the cafeteria’s class. As Shen Yuan sipped her juice, she momentarily felt as if she were holding a wine glass.
“Wei Wei Sis, is this your first time eating in the cafeteria too?” Lu Qingwan’s mouth was bright red from the spice. She watched Gu Shiwei gracefully use her knife and fork to cut the steak, suddenly feeling like they were from two different worlds.
How can someone eat with such elegance! Why do I look like a hungry ghost who just reincarnated?
Gu Shiwei extended two fingers to pick up a napkin and wipe her mouth. After swallowing her food, she said, “It is my first time.”
“It’s Yuan Yuan Sis’s first time too, but she only eats here because she has a part-time job and has to eat on the way to it.” Lu Qingwan had just learned this herself. She had previously thought Yuan Yuan Sis didn’t work overtime because she had a child or something at home, but after asking, she found out Yuan Yuan Sis was unmarried and working two jobs.
Yuan Yuan Sis is too driven. She looks so delicate and frail, yet she holds multiple positions.
“Part-time job?” Gu Shiwei suddenly remembered seeing Shen Yuan on the street that night. Shen Yuan was walking alone, carrying a cup of milk tea. Was she just getting off her second job at that time?
It was past eleven o’clock. After washing up and everything, it would be at least midnight. So late, and a girl alone.
It’s too unsafe.
Gu Shiwei looked at Shen Yuan, who was focused on eating, and suddenly asked, “Shen Yuan, are you in some difficulty?”
“Are you really short on money? I can lend you some to tide you over.” Gu Shiwei couldn’t help but wonder if something had happened to Shen Yuan, which was why she was working so hard.
Shen Yuan froze, raising her head from her bowl.
“No need.”
Gu Shiwei: “Are you sure you don’t need it—”
“Ah? Young CEO Gu, why are you eating in the cafeteria too? Oh my, if you had only told us you were coming, the second floor has a dedicated restaurant for senior management.”
A man in an elite-looking suit suddenly appeared at their table and addressed them.
Lu Qingwan heard his words and instantly froze the action of shoveling rice into her mouth.
She clumsily bit her chopsticks, looked up at the man, and asked perplexedly, “Young CEO Gu? Who are you talking about?”
He must have the wrong person.
“It’s fine, I’m done eating.” Gu Shiwei put down her knife and fork, gracefully wiped her mouth, and told the man.
Lu Qingwan: “???”
Shen Yuan: “0.0”
What? Gu Shiwei is the Young CEO???
Oh my god! How could a person be so embarrassing? Lu Qingwan had just asked Gu Shiwei what the Young CEO looked like right in front of her face—this truly was like asking the local deity for directions—she had found the right person.
“You, you, you… you are the Young CEO?” Lu Qingwan’s world had crumbled; she couldn’t even speak properly.
Gu Shiwei: “Yes, Gu Shiwei, Young CEO Gu—they are all me.”
Shen Yuan was also stunned. She never would have guessed that the “internship” Gu Shiwei spoke of would be as an intern CEO.
The suited man was sent away by Gu Shiwei. She was about to explain when her phone suddenly rang.
Gu Shiwei glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Lin Qinghuan.
She suddenly stood up from her seat, holding her phone.
“I need to take a call.”
Lu Qingwan, utterly mortified, said, “Go, go.”
After Gu Shiwei left, Lu Qingwan’s face suddenly became uglier than a cry. She desperately tried to recall if she had said anything offensive to the Young CEO. Did she inadvertently offend the Young CEO?
“Yuan Yuan Sis, you have to help me say some good words to CEO Gu later. I actually dared to covet her beauty just now—”
“Actually, I’m not close with Gu Shiwei… I just found out she was the Young CEO too.” Furthermore, compared to Lu Qingwan, Shen Yuan had been more impolite to Gu Shiwei, making her more likely to have offended her. If Gu Shiwei were truly the vengeful type, she wouldn’t be sitting opposite them eating so calmly today.
“I feel like… she’s a pretty good person.” Shen Yuan tried her best to comfort Lu Qingwan.
“Whew, that’s good. Luckily, we found out early.” Lu Qingwan turned her grief and indignation into appetite, stuffing another large mouthful of spicy hot pot into her mouth.
After Gu Shiwei finished her call, she came back, greeted them, and then left again. She seemed to have encountered something urgent and left in a hurry.
After lunch, Shen Yuan and Lu Qingwan returned to Zhaoyang to continue working overtime. Although it was called working overtime, there wasn’t much to do, just drawing some drafts that weren’t urgently needed.
On the other side, Gu Shiwei drove to a bar in the center of Jinghai City.
Lin Qinghuan had just called her, saying she had encountered trouble at the bar. The people on the other side were very stubborn. Lin Qinghuan realized the situation was getting out of control, so she called Gu Shiwei over for help, hoping they would back down and resolve the situation peacefully out of respect for Gu Shiwei.
When Gu Shiwei arrived, the atmosphere in the bar’s private room was heated, with the two parties facing off, ready to fight at any moment.
Lin Qinghuan, sharp-eyed, spotted Gu Shiwei’s figure and immediately shouted that Big Miss Gu had arrived. Upon hearing this, the people stopped their aggressive movements and all looked at Gu Shiwei at the door.
The bar was filled with neon lights. Gu Shiwei’s exquisite face appeared even more dazzling under the colorful lights, but her expression was cold, as if someone had interrupted her good time.
The men looked at Gu Shiwei’s chilly gaze and, remembering she was the Gu Group’s eldest daughter, their momentum immediately deflated significantly.
“What happened?” Gu Shiwei’s long legs strode past the crowd towards the two figures deepest inside.
“Xiaoxiao went out for air, and those guys took a liking to her and dragged her over to drink with them.” Lin Qinghuan only said this much. Gu Shiwei could guess the rest. She looked down at Ji Xiao, who was huddled on the sofa, then glanced back at the rogue-looking rich young men, and said decisively, “Call the police. Let the police handle it.”
“Huh?”
The young men were shocked to hear Gu Shiwei suggest calling the police. They looked at each other, all thinking they must have misheard. Didn’t they just drag a girl over to drink? Was it that serious?
They didn’t do anything, why call the police?
Besides, they were all well-known second-generation rich kids. If they were arrested and questioned at the police station in front of so many people at a bar, what about their reputation?
Gu Shiwei: “You started this. Dragging a customer to drink—do you know who she is?”
