The Moon Shines on Me (GL) - Chapter 8
Gu Shiwei: “If you really want to thank me, wait until you’re better and treat me to a meal.”
Shen Yuan was stunned.
After a long time, she said, “Okay.”
Cloud Brocade Villa
Gu Shiwei helped Shen Yuan out of the car. Before Shen Yuan could stand steadily, Gu Shiwei stretched out her long arm and pulled her back into her embrace.
“Your legs are shaking. You’re trying to be brave after throwing up like that.”
It was always like this; after vomiting, her body would be completely drained of energy. Shen Yuan was used to it, but before, she was always alone, so she had no choice but to push through.
Gu Shiwei had been consistently working out and had practiced Taekwondo for seven or eight years. Although she looked like a delicate fairy in her dress, she could actually kick a person’s neck and snap it. She was a genuine “King Kong Beauty.” It was effortless for her to pick up Shen Yuan, who weighed only two digits, and she even had a free hand to press the elevator button.
Cloud Brocade Villa was a real estate development recently launched by the Gu Corporation. Gu Shiwei owned an apartment here and had been living in it since returning to the country. It was very close to Zhaoyang, so Gu Shiwei brought Shen Yuan here tonight.
“Beep—”
Gu Shiwei pressed the fingerprint lock, and the door opened with a soft sound. By this time, Shen Yuan was so exhausted she could barely keep her eyes open. She was completely enveloped in Gu Shiwei’s arms, covered by Gu Shiwei’s suit jacket.
Gu Shiwei carried her into the room and then started boiling water.
During this time, Gu Shiwei made a call to urge Lin Qinghuan to hurry over. Lin Qinghuan mumbled a few things on the other end of the phone, then promised to arrive within half an hour.
The water boiled in a few minutes. Gu Shiwei took a blue medicine bottle out of Shen Yuan’s bag. While retrieving the bottle, Gu Shiwei accidentally snagged an acrylic keychain pendant from Shen Yuan’s bag. Gu Shiwei looked at the pendant and felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of familiarity, but she couldn’t remember where she had seen it before.
Gu Shiwei placed the pendant back in the bag and then entered the room with the hot water.
Shen Yuan heard the movement and lifted her thin eyelids to glance at Gu Shiwei, but after just one look, she groggily closed her eyes again.
Gu Shiwei leaned down and patted Shen Yuan’s shoulder: “Shen Yuan, take your medicine before you sleep.”
Seeing no response from Shen Yuan, Gu Shiwei first put the cup and medicine on the bedside table. Then, she used one arm to lift Shen Yuan so that her upper body was leaning against her.
Shen Yuan was so weak she didn’t even have the strength to lift a finger. She allowed Gu Shiwei to hold her, put the pill in her mouth, and then brought the hot water to her lips.
Gu Shiwei had mixed the hot water with cold water, so the temperature was just right. After Shen Yuan took a few sips, her stomach felt much more comfortable.
After feeding her the medicine, Gu Shiwei laid Shen Yuan back down on the bed and went out again.
Shen Yuan vaguely heard Gu Shiwei re-entering the room shortly after. Immediately, a warm towel was placed on her face. Gu Shiwei was wiping her face and hands. After that, she wiped her neck. Once all this was done, Gu Shiwei placed her hand on Shen Yuan’s stomach and continued to rub it.
After about ten minutes of rubbing, Shen Yuan’s head tilted, and she completely lost consciousness.
Lin Qinghuan arrived after Shen Yuan had fallen asleep, close to midnight. She appeared at the apartment door carrying a medical bag.
“What exactly happened? What’s wrong with you?”
As soon as Lin Qinghuan walked in, she asked anxiously.
“Follow me.”
Gu Shiwei led Lin Qinghuan into the room and briefly explained Shen Yuan’s situation.
With a patient present, Lin Qinghuan stopped talking nonsense. She immediately opened her medical bag and began to examine Shen Yuan, who was curled up in a ball on the bed.
Taking her temperature, listening to her heart, checking her bl00d pressure…
After the examination, the last remnants of Lin Qinghuan’s tipsiness vanished. She looked at Gu Shiwei and asked with a complicated expression, “This person looks young, but her health is a complete mess. What’s going on?”
She clearly didn’t take care of her body.
“What’s wrong with her body?” Gu Shiwei asked, frowning.
“Just looking at her complexion, she frequently stays up late. Her tongue coating, the whites of her eyes… irregular diet, malnutrition. Based on my preliminary estimate, she has no less than ten minor and major illnesses.” Things like hypoglycemia, anemia, excessive dampness and spleen deficiency, menstrual irregularities, and so on—the full spectrum.
Hearing Lin Qinghuan’s words, Gu Shiwei’s brow furrowed even deeper. She looked at the quietly lying, pale-faced Shen Yuan and suddenly felt a knot in her stomach.
She was in poor health yet worked so desperately. She was already very tired from her day job, but she also worked part-time jobs after getting off work. Did she need money that badly?
“Can it be treated?” Gu Shiwei blinked hard and looked at the serious-faced Lin Qinghuan.
“Most of them are chronic illnesses. She can only recover slowly. She shouldn’t overexert herself, needs a regular diet, and her sleep schedule needs to be adjusted promptly…”
Lin Qinghuan said while pulling out an IV drip from her medical bag to hook Shen Yuan up. During this time, she also gave Gu Shiwei a prescription and told her to get the medicine according to the recipe.
“Never mind, I’ll just bring the medicine over myself in a couple of days.” She was going to her grandfather’s place to get the medicine anyway, so Lin Qinghuan could also bring some of her grandfather’s Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for her.
“But who is this?” Lin Qinghuan tilted her chin towards the person on the bed, whose breathing was becoming steady, and asked Gu Shiwei: “Since when did you start liking this frail, Lin Daiyu type?”
Gu Shiwei gave Lin Qinghuan a strange look. “Who said I like her?”
“Tch, playing innocent again.” Lin Qinghuan rolled her eyes at her. “If you don’t like her, would you let her sleep in your soft, fragrant bed? And I know you, you never bring outsiders home.”
Gu Shiwei suddenly fell silent.
Seeing that she didn’t refute, Lin Qinghuan asked again, “Is it because of her that you’ve decided to stop waiting? Are you finally giving up on Ming Yue?”
The person on the bed suddenly frowned.
Gu Shiwei shot a look at Lin Qinghuan, using her eyes to signal her to shut up.
“Let’s talk outside.” Gu Shiwei lowered her voice and left the room.
When Lin Qinghuan finished tidying her medical bag and followed her out, Gu Shiwei was sitting on the sofa making tea. Lin Qinghuan sat opposite her, ready to continue the previous topic.
“The guest room hasn’t been tidied up yet,” Gu Shiwei said, staring at the boiling water on the table, her expression difficult to read. “She helped me, and I’m repaying her.”
“Is that really it? It has nothing to do with you stopping your wait?” Lin Qinghuan crossed her arms and leaned back on the sofa, her face clearly showing disbelief.
“She hasn’t had any news in eight years.” Gu Shiwei suddenly tilted her head back and drank the tea in her cup in one go. “Let’s not talk about her.”
Lin Qinghuan looked conflicted.
She picked up a teacup and took a sip of hot tea, finally deciding to tell Gu Shiwei that matter.
“Shiwei, actually…” Lin Qinghuan paused, carefully beginning, “Actually, there’s something I wanted to tell you back at the bar.”
Gu Shiwei looked up and glanced at Lin Qinghuan faintly: “Say it.”
“Actually, during these eight years, Ming Yue logged on once.” Lin Qinghuan stared at Gu Shiwei’s suddenly raised eyelashes, pursed her lips, and continued, “You were abroad at the time and couldn’t log into the game. Considering the lag over there was higher than my grandfather’s bl00d pressure, I didn’t tell you about it.”
“After you returned to the country, I also never found a chance to tell you. I was conflicted about whether to tell you even back at the bar—”
Gu Shiwei suddenly interrupted Lin Qinghuan, “What did she tell you?”
“She asked for news about you. I told her you went abroad. Her condition was very bad at the time; her speech was incoherent, and her emotions were extremely unstable when she opened her mic. I suspected she had depression or bipolar disorder,” Lin Qinghuan’s expression suddenly turned very serious at this point. “I told her to go see a doctor at the hospital. She hasn’t logged on since then, all the way until now.”
“I don’t know if she ever went to the hospital later on.”
Gu Shiwei pondered for a long time, then suddenly asked, “Around this time last year?”
Lin Qinghuan nodded. “Roughly.”
Gu Shiwei: “I know.”
Lin Qinghuan: “???”
She said all that, and Gu Shiwei dismissed her with just four words, “I know?”
Lin Qinghuan pressed on, “So, what are you thinking?”
Gu Shiwei lowered her head. Lin Qinghuan couldn’t see her expression, but from how tightly Gu Shiwei was gripping the cup, she must have been very conflicted.
Memories from eight years ago slowly surfaced in Gu Shiwei’s mind. After a long time, she finally put down the tea that had long since gone cold.
She looked at Lin Qinghuan and said in a low voice, “It’s all in the past.”
“Fine, I understand. After this time, I won’t bring her up in front of you again.”
Lin Qinghuan raised her hand and made a zipping gesture over her mouth, not continuing the topic.
Lin Qinghuan didn’t go home that night; she managed to sleep on the sofa at Gu Shiwei’s place. The next morning, she took Shen Yuan’s temperature again. Shen Yuan’s low fever had broken. After confirming there were no major issues, Lin Qinghuan packed up and went home.
Today was Saturday, and Gu Shiwei didn’t go to the company. After waking up, she first went downstairs for an hour-long run around the neighborhood. Then she came home, took a shower, and made herself breakfast. After she finished eating, Shen Yuan slowly woke up.
“CEO Gu,” Shen Yuan raised her hand to shield her eyes from the glaring light and spoke weakly, “What time is it?”
“Nine o’clock. Don’t call me CEO Gu after work hours.” Gu Shiwei said this while placing a cup of hot water on the bedside table.
Shen Yuan lay in bed for a while. After recovering some energy, she sat up, hugging the quilt. Last night, she was focused on her stomach pain and didn’t notice what the house looked like. Now, looking around, it was full of the atmosphere of Gu Shiwei’s life.
In the photo frame on the bedside table was a picture of Gu Shiwei from her student days—a blue and white school uniform and a high ponytail, a very youthful and beautiful image. There were also fresh flowers on the bedside table. Shen Yuan could tell that Gu Shiwei was a person who truly loved life.
However, she had actually slept in Gu Shiwei’s bedroom last night?
“Did I… throw up in your house yesterday?” Shen Yuan asked with a look of despair.
“No,” Gu Shiwei said with a smile. “Are you afraid I’ll ask you for compensation?”
Shen Yuan pursed her lips and didn’t answer, which was equivalent to an affirmation.
She had originally thought that staying one night at Gu Shiwei’s house wouldn’t cost much, but judging by the luxurious decor, staying one night would probably be more expensive than going to the hospital.
Gu Shiwei: “Don’t worry about staying. The doctor said you shouldn’t overexert yourself for a while, so I suggest you quit your part-time jobs and focus on getting better first.”
“I’m fine, it’s an old problem. I was careless and ate something spicy last night.” Shen Yuan had a glass stomach and couldn’t handle irritating food, but the reaction hadn’t been this intense before. She didn’t know why it was so severe last night.
Gu Shiwei raised an eyebrow: “Are you going to disobey doctor’s orders?”
Shen Yuan looked confused: “Huh?”
Gu Shiwei: “That’s what the doctor said. I’m just relaying the doctor’s words.“
