Chapter 12: 012 That Smelly Fox Took Advantage of Her Again!
After some time, Gu Linlang vaguely felt a presence moving around her.
The cool sensation from her knee and ankle seemed to wake her up a little, but her eyelids were still heavy as lead. She managed to open them just a slit before they closed again immediately.
“Mmm…” she mumbled to herself. It must be Qi Wanyang changing the ice packs.
She never thought that smelly fox would be so attentive, remembering to ice her injuries in the middle of the night.
In a daze, Gu Linlang felt that the figure busy in front of her was incredibly gentle, actually overlapping with the image of her mother caring for her in her memory.
Gu Linlang’s lips moved slightly, her voice barely audible: “Mom… I’m sorry… Don’t dance anymore, no more dancing…”
Qi Wanyang, who was changing the ice pack, paused, thinking Gu Linlang had woken up. She leaned closer and realized she was talking in her sleep. Although the specific words were unclear, the tight knot in her brow and the cold sweat covering her forehead made Qi Wanyang’s heart clench.
“Why is she sweating so much…” Qi Wanyang frowned slightly, gently placing the ice pack on Gu Linlang’s knee, and then turned to the bathroom to fetch a basin of warm water.
Returning with the warm water, Qi Wanyang noticed Gu Linlang’s back was drenched.
Her pajamas sticking to her body must be uncomfortable, but…
After a moment’s hesitation, Qi Wanyang decided to wipe Gu Linlang’s body. Fortunately, she had already arranged for clothes to be brought from home, which included pajamas and outerwear that would fit Gu Linlang.
While changing her clothes, Gu Linlang suddenly let out a small groan, startling Qi Wanyang, who nearly ripped a button off.
Once everything was tidy, Gu Linlang was refreshed, while Qi Wanyang herself was covered in sweat.
In the warm yellow glow of the bedside lamp, Gu Linlang’s breathing finally steadied, and a small curve appeared at the corner of her mouth.
Qi Wanyang stared at that smile, an impulsive urge making her reach out her hand. Her fingertip almost touched Gu Linlang’s lip but stopped abruptly. In the end, she simply tugged lightly at the slipped blanket, tucking her in.
Qi Wanyang sat there watching her until Gu Linlang’s eyelashes stopped fluttering. She quietly sighed in relief and took the now-cold water to pour it out.
When she returned, she found Gu Linlang had kicked off a corner of the blanket. Qi Wanyang shook her head helplessly and gently covered her again.
“Still such a messy sleeper…” she muttered under her breath, her tone complaining but her eyes soft beyond words.
Gu Linlang smacked her lips in her dream, as if refuting her, and soon sank back into a deep sleep. Qi Wanyang watched for a long time, eventually unable to resist reaching out to gently brush a rebellious strand of hair away from her cheek.
Early the next morning, the sun filled the room like melted butter, and Gu Linlang woke up from her dreams with a lazy yawn.
She noticed that the mat Qi Wanyang had slept on last night had been put away, and the person was gone.
Gu Linlang carefully slid her legs off the stacked blankets and tentatively walked a few steps. She was pleasantly surprised to find that the pain had significantly eased, and the swelling had clearly gone down.
That Qi Wanyang may be annoying, but she’s got some skills.
Gu Linlang walked into the bathroom to wash up, but her expression instantly changed when she saw the pajamas she was wearing, letting out a gasp.
Xu Yiru heard the commotion and quickly pushed the door open, asking concernedly, “Linlang, what’s wrong? What happened?”
Gu Linlang hastily closed the bathroom door, took a deep breath, and calmed herself before asking, “Yiru sis, did you help me change clothes?”
Xu Yiru shook her head, smiling: “I just got back from outside. How could it be me? Yanyang must have changed them for you. She even specially prepared a new outfit for you. I left it by the bathroom door.”
Seeing Gu Linlang silent, Xu Yiru added: “Yanyang has already gone to work. She ordered us breakfast, so remember to come out and eat after you wash up.” With that, she turned and left.
Listening to Xu Yiru’s words, Gu Linlang felt a surge of emotions.
Qi Wanyang, Qi Wanyang, why is it always Qi Wanyang! That smelly fox took advantage of her again!
However, despite her annoyance, Gu Linlang opened the door and brought the clothes Qi Wanyang had prepared into the bathroom. Since her foot was much better, she quickly wiped herself down and changed into the new clothes.
The breakfast Qi Wanyang had ordered for them was a showcase of local delicacies. Especially the steamed chicken feet in black bean sauce—Gu Linlang knew at the first taste that it was the signature dish from Taoleju. Qi Wanyang at least had good taste.
After breakfast, Xu Yiru offered to drive Gu Linlang home.
Gu Linlang felt a little bad, as Xu Yiru had been busy with surgery all night. She declined: “Yiru sis, you worked so hard last night; you should rest. I can just take a taxi home.”
Xu Yiru had actually slept soundly at a hotel and was completely refreshed. But she dared not tell the truth and put on a tired pretense: “Don’t worry, Linlang. We operate in shifts, and I managed to grab a quick nap.”
She then lowered her voice and mumbled, “Besides, if I don’t safely see off our little princess, a certain person will have my head.”
“Huh? Yiru sis, did you say something?” Gu Linlang keenly caught her muttering.
“Nothing, nothing!” Xu Yiru quickly waved her hands, her smile so bright it seemed to bloom. “I was just complimenting how considerate you are, worrying about your older sister. It warms my heart.”
Gu Linlang nodded doubtfully: “Then I’ll trouble you, Yiru sis.”
The two walked to the foyer. Xu Yiru magically produced several beautifully packaged boxes of ointment.
“Here, Yanyang specially prepared all these for you,” she winked suggestively. “The instructions are inside the box, but I think you should read the little ‘love tip’ note Yanyang wrote herself.”
Xu Yiru intentionally drew out her final words, her tone filled with teasing: “Our Yanyang~ She’s being especially attentive to you~”
That much was true. Even in her previous life, after Qi Wanyang returned to the country, Gu Linlang had never seen her be so considerate to anyone.
So, facing Qi Wanyang’s sudden attentiveness, Gu Linlang felt utterly confused.
But as long as Qi Wanyang doesn’t provoke her, Gu Linlang felt she could probably coexist with her peacefully.
The thought that she would have to perform those “Intimate Contact Missions” with Qi Wanyang from time to time completely drained her of any temper. “Then thank her for me.”
Xu Yiru watched Gu Linlang’s lukewarm reaction—no surprise, no shyness—and felt a little disappointed.
But on second thought, you can’t rush matters of the heart. It can be cultivated slowly; after all, there’s plenty of time.
Given her silly cousin’s persistence, she’d eventually manage to enlighten this wooden block of a Miss Gu.
After changing into the new shoes she bought yesterday, Gu Linlang got into the car with Xu Yiru.
The sun was shining brightly today, and Gu Linlang was in a good mood. She lightly swayed her wrist, and the bracelet adorned with deep blue gems sparkled in the sun, like disturbed seawater. It gently swayed on the silver chain with her movement, reflecting tiny star fragments.
“By the way, Yiru sis,” she suddenly turned. “Did you pass on my thanks? And about the invitation, what did the other person say?”
