Chapter 15: 015 How Can She Face Qi Wanyang?
Just as Gu Linlang’s chest was tightening and the last bit of air in her lungs was about to run out, a piercing alarm suddenly blared in her mind: “Warning! Oxygen level too low! Host vital signs critical! Host! Wake up!”
Gu Linlang jolted awake from the nightmare, her eyes snapping open. Her entire body was drenched in sweat as if she’d been pulled out of water, and her chest heaved violently.
It took her a while to regain her senses, belatedly realizing she had almost suffocated herself.
Wiping the cold sweat from her forehead, Gu Linlang thought worriedly: I finally got a second chance at life. If I end up killing myself in such a stupid way, it would be a huge loss.
“Host, please cherish life,” the System said in a cold, mechanical voice, despite the words of concern.
Gu Linlang cleared her throat and waved a hand impatiently: “Yeah, yeah, I know. It was just a nightmare, no need to make a fuss.”
“Ugh, I have to stay in this wretched place for three days…” Gu Linlang thought glumly. If this happens every night, how will I cope?
The System consoled her: “Host, don’t worry. If this happens again, I will wake you up immediately.”
Gu Linlang lay back on the hospital bed, staring at the snowy white ceiling and sighing: “I hate staying in the hospital. I wish I could just skip these three days.”
The System was silent for a few seconds: “If the Host wishes to skip these three days, there is a way.”
Gu Linlang’s eyes lit up: “Oh? You have a way?”
“Since I can allow you to be reborn, adjusting the flow of time is certainly possible,” the System explained matter-of-factly. “You can exchange 30 Love Value to skip these three days directly.”
Gu Linlang was delighted, but she remained cautious: “How exactly does it work? Are there any limitations? Will there be any side effects?”
“You simply need to plan your schedule for these three days. The System will execute it according to your plan. However, it must conform to real-world logic,” the System replied without missing a beat.
Gu Linlang curled her lip, thinking: This is just telling me not to pull any unrealistic stunts like time travel or saving the galaxy. She snorted. She was too lazy to get involved in that kind of trouble anyway.
So, how should she spend these three days?
Suddenly, a certain person’s image flashed through her mind, and Gu Linlang immediately put on a serious face: “First, don’t let me see Qi Wanyang for these three days!” That woman is a magnet for trouble. Who knows what might happen if I run into her? I refuse to be forced to ‘work’ during my ‘custody’ period!
“Understood,” the System replied cleanly.
“Second, I’m staying in this hospital room and not going anywhere.” Gu Linlang looked around. The room was well-equipped with a kitchen and bathroom. Going out for a walk would only increase uncertainty, and she would have to smell that awful disinfectant.
She took a deep breath. The rich floral scent filling the room made her feel much better.
“As you wish,” the System remained completely unfazed.
Gu Linlang’s eyes darted around, and a sly smile suddenly appeared: “Right, have the nurse bring me my laptop before evening. I’m going to focus on finishing my graduation thesis these three days. I want to write a brilliant one, pass the plagiarism check easily, and include all the insights I missed last time.”
The System was silent for a few seconds before answering: “With your current ability, you should be able to achieve that.”
“It’s settled then. I’m not greedy, you see.” Gu Linlang snapped her fingers. Just the thought of instantly finishing her thesis made her grin from ear to ear. She could almost see the stunned looks on her advisor’s and classmates’ faces.
She closed her eyes full of anticipation, and following the System’s guidance, her consciousness entered the System Mall.
When she opened her eyes, amidst a dazzling light, a healthy heart priced at 10,000 Love Value suddenly appeared in her sight. That heart was beating happily, thump-thump, as if waving to her.
Gu Linlang couldn’t help but reach out to touch it, only to hit the cold glass casing.
“Host, your Love Value is far from enough,” the System threw a bucket of cold water over her, and Gu Linlang wilted instantly: “I know…”
The System guided her to a different display cabinet.
Gu Linlang’s gaze was drawn to a hanging crystal ball. A faint blue glow flowed within the crystal ball, which was clearly engraved with the four ancient seal characters: “Time Flow.”
“Host, rotating this crystal ball clockwise is fast-forwarding time, and rotating it counter-clockwise is rewinding time,” the System explained.
“Rewinding time?” Gu Linlang was taken aback, a thought suddenly flashing through her mind.
The System seemed to immediately pick up on her thought and responded calmly: “Yes, Host, your rebirth was the result of a one-year time rewind. However, this function is very rare and is currently not available for exchange.”
“Oh, I knew it wouldn’t be that easy,” Gu Linlang pouted.
The System continued: “Host, please place your hand on the crystal ball now. It will automatically deduct 30 Love Value and fulfill your wish to fast-forward three days.”
Gu Linlang did as she was told, closing her eyes the moment her palm touched the crystal ball. She felt a blur of light and shadow, like riding a time-travel express train.
Suddenly, everything came to a halt.
Gu Linlang snapped her eyes open. The surrounding light and shadow receded like a tide. The TV was silently playing a Japanese travel program, and on the laptop screen in front of her was the recently completed graduation thesis.
“Holy cow! I actually finished it?!” Gu Linlang excitedly clapped her hands and eagerly flipped through the thesis.
As she read it, even she was stunned. It was written so smoothly! All the details she missed in the previous life were filled in, and the logic was watertight.
She snapped her fingers smugly: “Brilliant!”
But her moment of self-satisfaction lasted less than three seconds. The smile on Gu Linlang’s face suddenly froze as a flash of memory appeared in her mind like a slide show.
What the heck! That enemy Qi Wanyang actually showed up on the second day of her hospitalization!
“System, come out now! You promised you wouldn’t let me see Qi Wanyang?!” Gu Linlang angrily pounded the bed, nearly knocking over her laptop.
The System maintained its professional tone: “Host, you indeed did not ‘see’ her. Didn’t you burrow under the blanket and cover your head the moment you heard she arrived?”
“Aah!” The moment the System said that, the memory of that explosively awkward scene instantly popped into Gu Linlang’s mind.
While she technically hadn’t opened her eyes to look at Qi Wanyang, acting like an ostrich hiding under the covers was far more humiliating!
She clearly saw in the memory fragment forced into her mind that Qi Wanyang was standing by her bed, coaxing her with a helpless expression. The scene was unbelievable!
Even worse, Xu Yiru and those gossipy friends of hers were there too, watching her cowardly state the whole time—it was a full-blown public social disaster!
The most ridiculous part of all was that the Intimate Contact Mission decided to trigger right then.
She, who swore on her life never to look at Qi Wanyang again, inexplicably grabbed her waist the moment the other woman turned to leave! The entire room instantly burst into laughter!
“Aaaah, this is so annoying! Qi Wanyang, don’t you have anything better to do! Why do you keep showing up around me!” Gu Linlang covered her face, wishing she could dig a hole and crawl into it right then.
She couldn’t believe she had done such a thing in front of so many people.
Qi Wanyang must be laughing her head off, right? Xu Yiru and Hong Hui and the others definitely thought they were flirting! Her image was completely ruined!
“System, why didn’t you warn me!” Gu Linlang angrily stomped her foot.
The System remained calm: “Host, I did warn you when the mission was issued. Furthermore, your reaction at the time was purely instinctive, and I had no right to interfere.”
Gu Linlang regretted her decision to abuse the system’s “custody” feature. She had gained nothing and lost more than she earned, plus she lost three days of her life.
How can she not get rid of Qi Wanyang? She’s like superglue! And after something like this happened, how would she ever face Qi Wanyang again, let alone do those damn Intimate Contact Missions?
