Chapter 26: 026 “As Long As You Don’t Cooperate with That Toad…”
The fury in Lu Yifei’s chest instantly flared up again. His eyes were bloodshot, and the veins on his forehead bulged: “Gu Linlang! Is this the extent of your Gu family’s manners? Don’t you even understand the rule of first come, first served? I was the one who made the appointment with Wanyang. We’re halfway through discussing important business. By what right do you cut in?”
“Oh, dear.” Gu Linlang exaggeratedly picked at her ear, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “Young Master Lu’s voice is so loud, one might think there’s a pig being slaughtered at a wet market. Does your Lu family’s upbringing teach you to bark like a mad dog in public?”
She emphasized the words “mad dog,” her eyes provocatively sweeping over Lu Yifei: “The ‘important business’ Young Master Lu is talking about, couldn’t it be some kind of vulgar gossip?” Without waiting for an answer, she suddenly hooked her arm through Qi Wanyang’s, speaking rapidly: “As for me, I’m about to tell Wanyang that our Gu Sheng Group has decided to fully invest in Qi’an’s Xuanji system!”
These words were like a bomb, instantly changing the expressions of both Qi Wanyang and Lu Yifei.
A flicker of surprise crossed Qi Wanyang’s eyes. Gu Linlang actually agreed to the collaboration on behalf of her company?
Lu Yifei’s face instantly turned the color of the bottom of a wok. He had planned to use this collaboration opportunity to get closer to Qi Wanyang and win the beauty’s heart. Now, Gu Linlang had just completely stolen his thunder?
“Wanyang!” Lu Yifei’s voice was distorted. He stared intently at Qi Wanyang: “You went to the Gu family too?”
Gu Linlang watched from the side, her heart thumping nervously. Oh no, she bit off more than she could chew. Is Qi Wanyang going to expose her right here?
However, to Gu Linlang’s surprise, Qi Wanyang nodded and calmly replied: “I did mention this project to Mr. Gu before. It would naturally be best to partner with Gu Sheng, a leading enterprise in Longcheng.” She turned to Gu Linlang, joy spilling into her eyes: “Mr. Gu said he needed a shareholder meeting to discuss it. I didn’t expect a result so quickly?”
“O-of course!” Gu Linlang immediately jumped on the opportunity, lifting her chin at Lu Yifei, then looking back at Qi Wanyang: “My dad has already decided to cooperate with you. I came here today to tell you this good news.”
“What? Your dad actually agreed?” Lu Yifei’s voice trembled as if he had swallowed a fly alive.
In contrast, his own father, Lu Yuanzheng, had been taking a wait-and-see approach to Qi’an’s Xuanji system, thinking it was too risky for Qi Wanyang to launch such a big project right after taking office.
He had finally managed to persuade his father to consider the investment, precisely to get close to Qi Wanyang. Now, everything was ruined by Gu Linlang’s meddling.
Gu Linlang put one hand on her hip, savoring Lu Yifei’s deflated expression. She felt incredibly satisfied.
Although her dad hadn’t formally agreed yet, she was ten-hundred percent sure she could persuade him. Rounding up, it was the same as her dad agreeing.
Lu Yifei’s clenched fists trembled slightly, his nails digging deep into his palms. He stared intensely at Qi Wanyang, only to realize that the woman’s full attention was on Gu Linlang, not sparing him even a side glance.
The humiliation of being utterly ignored instantly turned into rage, making his temples throb violently.
“Ms. Qi, are you going to give me a definitive answer?”
Qi Wanyang’s lips held a perfectly polite smile: “It is my honor that Uncle Gu is willing to give Qi’an this opportunity.”
“Good. Very good!” Lu Yifei suddenly forced two cold laughs through his gritted teeth. His carefully maintained gentlemanly mask shattered into pieces. He loosened his tie, his expression turning vicious: “Qi Wanyang, you’re slapping my face, aren’t you? Just you wait!”
Gu Linlang let out a sound of annoyance and stepped forward, blocking Lu Yifei’s menacing gaze toward Qi Wanyang: “Lu Yifei, what kind of domineering CEO act are you putting on here? Everyone can see through your filthy intentions. I hear you lost over 30 million in Macau last week? If your old man found out…”
Lu Yifei’s face instantly went white. Gu Linlang seized the advantage, her red lips curving into a sneer: “Now, immediately, get the hell out—” The last word was drawn out and loud, exploding in the private room and forcing Lu Yifei to stumble back two large steps, speechless for a moment.
He glared fiercely at Qi Wanyang and Gu Linlang, snorted, and turned to storm out of the room.
Watching Lu Yifei’s furious retreat, Gu Linlang finally relaxed with a long exhale, her shoulders visibly slumping.
When she turned around, she found Qi Wanyang staring at her thoughtfully.
“Did you talk to my dad about cooperation?”
“Did Uncle Gu agree to the cooperation?”
They both spoke at the same time and then immediately fell silent.
Gu Linlang’s ear tips flushed red, and she looked away uncomfortably.
Qi Wanyang suddenly let out a soft laugh, one laced with an indescribable exhaustion that made Gu Linlang’s heart clench.
“Don’t worry, Qi Wanyang,” she grabbed Qi Wanyang’s wrist, guaranteeing earnestly, “My dad’s side is on me.”
Qi Wanyang looked at her quizzically, her deep peach-blossom eyes reflecting Gu Linlang’s determined face. She couldn’t help but ask: “Gu Linlang, why are you doing this?”
Gu Linlang answered without thinking: “As long as you don’t cooperate with that toad!”
“Oh?” Qi Wanyang raised an eyebrow, her confusion deepening. “So, what exactly is your conflict with Lu Yifei?”
“I already told you, who is Lu Yifei? Is he worthy of having a conflict with me?” Gu Linlang suddenly scoffed as if remembering something. “But if you want to talk about personal grievance… Last year at a charity gala, this young master threw a whole glass of red wine over a waiter’s head because the waiter accidentally bumped him, and he forced the person to kneel and apologize. I couldn’t stand it. Not only did I help the waiter, but I also made him apologize to the waiter. It made him so angry his face turned red, and he left when he realized he couldn’t beat me. A whole crowd of people were laughing at him.”
Qi Wanyang’s beautiful brows knitted. This Lu Yifei was indeed worse than she had imagined.
“Of course, none of that is the main point,” Gu Linlang’s stomach churned as she recalled Lu Yifei’s lecherous gaze, drooling over Qi Wanyang. “I just can’t stand seeing a perfectly good piece of jade being eaten by a pig. Is that a problem?”
Hearing this, Qi Wanyang’s gaze lingered on Gu Linlang’s face for a few seconds. A complex emotion flashed in her eyes, eventually dissolving into a light sigh: “Regardless of the reason, this is my private matter. You don’t need to put yourself at odds with the Lu family for me. Qi’an urgently needs the investment for this project, and I need a successful result to secure my position after taking over the company. As for Lu Yifei…”
She paused, her tone calm, almost cold. “Setting aside his character, as long as I can secure the investment, everything else is negotiable.”
Hearing this, Gu Linlang’s chest felt stuffed with cotton, both stifled and blocked. She suddenly widened her eyes, her voice rising an octave: “Investment? Is investment all you care about? Are you willing to use your own happiness as a bargaining chip just to secure an investment? Even if it means an alliance with that kind of scumbag?”
