Chapter 29: 029 She Was Like a Beam of Light, Dispelling the Gloom Around Her…
Gu Linlang quickly changed into the suit and paired it with simple and elegant high heels. She instantly possessed an outstanding aura.
However, standing in front of the mirror, she still felt like something was missing.
After deliberating for a long time in her jewelry box, she finally put on a pair of exquisite earrings. The earrings glittered under the light, as excited and sparkling as her mood was at the moment.
While putting on the earrings, Gu Linlang’s gaze inadvertently fell on the bracelet on her wrist.
The bracelet, named “Tear of the Deep Sea,” shimmered with sapphire blue gems in the light, stunningly beautiful.
It was strange that no one had contacted her about it after all this time.
A few days ago, when she sent Xu Yiru a souvenir from her trip to Japan, she had also included an extra gift, saying she wanted to give it to the friend who gave her the bracelet.
Xu Yiru readily accepted, saying she would pass it on, but there had been no follow-up since then.
So, who exactly sent her such a precious gift?
Countless possibilities flashed through Gu Linlang’s mind, but none could be confirmed.
Suddenly, Qi Wanyang’s face, complete with a gentle smile, flashed in her mind. Gu Linlang’s hand shook, and the earring nearly fell into the sink.
“How could that be…” She rolled her eyes at her reflection in the mirror.
But then she thought about it: In the hospital, wasn’t Qi Wanyang the closest person to Xu Yiru?
But would that enemy she’d been clashing with since childhood secretly send her such a valuable gift?
The more Gu Linlang thought about it, the more absurd it seemed. She shook her head.
“Who cares? I’ll find out when the time is right.” She didn’t seem to be in such a hurry to know who it was anymore. She took one last look at the glittering blue gem on her wrist, then turned and quickly walked out of the bathroom.
After the morning rush hour, Gu Linlang and Secretary Chen quickly arrived at the Qi’an Pharmaceuticals headquarters building.
The sunlight filtered through the car window, dappling Gu Linlang’s delicate face. She gently smoothed her hair, parked the car, and walked calmly toward the building, entering the lobby.
The lobby was spacious and bright. In the center was a huge waterscape sculpture, where the water flowed gently, symbolizing Qi’an’s continuous influence in the industry.
On the left was the reception desk, where several uniformed employees were busy. On the right was an exhibition hall displaying Qi’an’s classic medicines and historical photos from over the decades.
Gu Linlang’s gaze lingered in the exhibition hall for a moment, noticing many visitors gathered around the displays of Qi’an’s classic medicines.
Beside her, Secretary Chen handed his business card to the reception, stating their identities and purpose.
After learning the details, one of the receptionists immediately picked up the phone and dialed the CEO’s office.
Although Gu Linlang had Qi Wanyang’s phone number and could easily contact her, she wanted to visit in this more formal way to give Qi Wanyang a huge surprise.
Before long, Gu Linlang saw a familiar figure step out of the elevator.
It was Dai Na, Qi Wanyang’s assistant, who had accompanied Qi Wanyang to Japan earlier.
Dai Na quickly approached Gu Linlang, a professional smile on her face: “Miss Gu, thank you for waiting. Hello, Secretary Chen. Ms. Qi is currently in a meeting. I’ll take you upstairs to wait for a moment.”
Gu Linlang suddenly remembered the sisters’ group mentioning that Qi Wanyang had to give an account of securing investment for the new project at today’s board meeting. She didn’t hesitate and nodded to Dai Na: “Thank you for the trouble.”
Dai Na led her to the CEO’s private elevator and went straight up to the 16th floor.
When the elevator door opened, the three of them reached the 16th floor. Passing a conference room door, Dai Na whispered: “Miss Gu, Ms. Qi is inside having a meeting. I’ll take you to the office to rest for a while.”
Gu Linlang, deep in thought, suddenly stopped: “Assistant Dai, I have something very important to tell Ms. Qi. Could you please relay the message for me now?”
Seeing Dai Na’s hesitation, Gu Linlang quickly emphasized: “It’s a really important matter. I apologize for the inconvenience.”
Dai Na hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded: “Alright, Miss Gu. Please wait here for a moment.”
Dai Na turned and walked toward the conference room, lightly pushing the door open. Gu Linlang followed and peered in.
Despite only the fleeting moment that Dai Na pushed the door open, Gu Linlang caught a glimpse of the scene inside the conference room.
She clearly saw Qi Wanyang standing at the main podium, bowing and apologizing to the directors and high-level executives below.
“Little Yang, I heard you rejected Lushi Construction & Investment’s offer? How could you handle things this way? Don’t you know how much effort I put into facilitating this collaboration?” A sharp, critical voice pierced the soundproof conference room door and struck Gu Linlang’s ears.
Gu Linlang clenched her fists. She hadn’t realized that Qi Wanyang was pressured by the high-level executives to approach Lu Yifei. Did the engagement in the previous life also come from the idea of these executives?
Remembering Qi Wanyang’s bowed figure apologizing just now, Gu Linlang’s chest felt like it was stuffed with cotton.
Seeing Dai Na still hadn’t come out, she could no longer hold back. She strode forward and pushed open the heavy walnut wood door of the conference room. Secretary Chen couldn’t stop her in time.
“I am truly sorry, everyone. This mistake was entirely due to my personal reasons. I will take full responsibility as promised. I will resign…”
Just as Qi Wanyang was about to step down and take the blame, the conference room door was suddenly flung open. Gu Linlang’s clear voice cut through the stagnant air: “Excuse me for the interruption. Ms. Qi, is this a good time to continue discussing our collaboration?”
Her sudden appearance was like a gust of wind blowing into the dull conference room.
Everyone turned their heads in unison, staring at the uninvited guest.
Dai Na rushed over, flustered, trying to intercept her, but upon hearing the words “discussing our collaboration,” she withdrew her outstretched hand.
Although the other executives were annoyed that their meeting was interrupted, Miss Gu’s reputation was well-known. Their eyes widened, and their ears perked up, eager to know what big deal this young lady had suddenly come to discuss.
Qi Wanyang was completely stunned.
Staring at the suddenly appearing Gu Linlang, she was momentarily transported back to when she was five years old.
She had been standing alone and helpless in the center of the dance studio, with other children pointing and calling her a “mute freak.”
And just like now, Gu Linlang had suddenly burst into her world, like a beam of light, dispelling the gloom surrounding her.
Gu Linlang was trying to maintain a poised demeanor, but when she looked up, she met Qi Wanyang’s reddened eyes, and her heart suddenly felt a sharp pang.
Strange. Why does this scene feel vaguely familiar?
In the deep recesses of her hazy memory, there seemed to be another helpless figure who had looked at her with the same kind of eyes.
The familiar yet not fully clear memory made her frown.
