Chapter 3: 003 It’s Just Sticking Close To My Nemesis? Bring It On!
Sure enough, Qi Wanyang suddenly reached out and pulled. Caught off guard, Gu Linlang completely lost her balance, tumbling right onto Qi Wanyang’s lap. The insensitive System immediately added 15 Love Value, making Gu Linlang utterly speechless.
Qi Wanyang leaned down, engulfing Gu Linlang in her shadow. Those eyes were unfathomably deep, as if they could swallow a person whole: “I’m nothing to you, and you’re nothing to me. What I choose to do, how can you control it?”
Gu Linlang was so stunned by the sudden action that she couldn’t speak, her heart pounding against her ribs, threatening to leap out of her throat. Fortunately, Qi Wanyang released her quickly.
Gu Linlang scrambled to retreat to the side, afraid of being grabbed again. She was shaking with anger, racking her brain for insults, but finally managed to squeeze out just three words: “Stinky hooligan!”
Qi Wanyang acted as if she hadn’t heard, turning to look out the window. The night was inky, dotted with starlight, and the city lights outside scattered like colorful pearls.
The streetlights danced on the car window, casting mottled shadows. Qi Wanyang’s face, constantly changing in the light, appeared increasingly unpredictable.
Gu Linlang was too distraught to ponder Qi Wanyang’s mood. The thought of having to rely on this nemesis for survival after rebirth, and being forced into intimate contact for some ridiculous “Stick Close” mission, infuriated her.
The System seemed to notice her dissatisfaction and quickly popped up: “Don’t worry, Host! The Love Value earned from these ‘Stick Close’ missions is super useful!”
Gu Linlang also turned to look at the dark night outside. Once her mood had calmed slightly, she asked internally: “So what exactly is this Love Value for?”
The System explained matter-of-factly: “Love Value is the universal currency for the System Mall. For instance, the teleportation you mentioned earlier is completely redeemable. Once you save up 10,000 points, you can even redeem a brand new, healthy heart to permanently cure your disease!”
“What?!” Gu Linlang almost shouted out loud, her eyes instantly sparkling.
The System’s next words delighted her even more: “Once you save 10,000 points and redeem the heart, truly starting a new life, my mission will be complete, and I will disappear from your world. At that time, you won’t have to do any more ‘Stick Close’ missions.”
Gu Linlang was overjoyed. This deal was too good! The thought of completely getting rid of her heart disease and living a normal life made the previous grievances insignificant.
It’s just sticking close to my nemesis? For a healthy life and a beautiful future, bring it on!
“Wait,” Gu Linlang suddenly thought: “When I first transmigrated, Qi Wanyang touched me quite a bit, right?” She was touched, hugged, and even kissed. “Why didn’t any Love Value get added?”
“Uh…” The System’s mechanical voice suddenly became choppy: “Apologies, Host. The system was rebooting just then. Those contacts weren’t recorded and don’t count, unfortunately.”
Gu Linlang was speechless. How unreliable was this broken System?!
Gu Linlang and Qi Wanyang, each preoccupied with their own thoughts, remained silent all the way to Qian Comprehensive Hospital.
This private, top-tier hospital, run by the Qi family, had a fifty-year history. Backed by the R&D strength of Qian Pharmaceuticals, its cardiovascular department was even better than the Provincial Hospital. Gu Linlang’s previous heart surgeries were all performed here.
The car drove directly into the exclusive garage via the VIP entrance, attracting no attention.
Gu Linlang tried to slip away as soon as she got out, but Qi Wanyang grabbed her wrist. The System immediately gave her another 5 points. Gu Linlang looked outwardly annoyed but was inwardly thrilled: This Love Value is too easy to earn!
She gloated secretly: If Qi Wanyang knew she was being used as a tool, she’d probably explode with rage! Hahaha, Qi Wanyang, you finally met your match!
Gu Linlang didn’t struggle, letting Qi Wanyang hold her. Qi Wanyang appeared calm, but her heart fluttered. She inexplicably slid her hand down, changing their grip to intertwined fingers. Gu Linlang didn’t strongly resist, which made Qi Wanyang’s heart beat faster.
Of course, what Qi Wanyang didn’t know was that Gu Linlang’s lack of resistance was only because the System had added another 10 points of Love Value.
Holding hands, the two took the VIP elevator. The “Sis” Qi Wanyang had mentioned on the phone was her cousin, Xu Yiru, who was also Gu Linlang’s attending physician. It was past 10 PM, and Xu Yiru was called to the Qi family’s exclusive consultation building. As she arrived at the door of the sixth-floor clinic, she was stunned to see Qi Wanyang and Gu Linlang walking towards her, holding hands.
Upon seeing Xu Yiru, Gu Linlang quickly pulled her hand free from Qi Wanyang’s and happily trotted over to hook her arm around Xu Yiru’s, pouting dramatically: “Sister Yiru~” Her small face was filled with feigned grievance.
Xu Yiru patted her arm: “What’s wrong? Who bullied you?” She said this while looking teasingly at Qi Wanyang.
Qi Wanyang pretended not to notice, but her eyes were fixed intently on Gu Linlang’s arm linked with Xu Yiru’s. Xu Yiru felt like her arm was about to be burned through by the stare and quickly pulled it away. She maintained a calm expression but laughed internally: This awkward cousin of hers clearly likes the girl, yet always bullies her. And the jealousy is quite something.
“Oh, right, Linlang, Wanyang, happy birthday. I was on emergency duty today and just finished saving a patient, so I couldn’t attend your birthday party,” Xu Yiru said apologetically, shrugging her shoulders.
“It’s fine. I usually celebrate the lunar calendar,” Qi Wanyang replied.
“It’s just a birthday party, no big deal.” Gu Linlang waved her hand dismissively: “I received the birthday gift you sent, Sister Yiru, and I love it! Thank you~”
Xu Yiru smiled and shook her head, signaling them to enter the consulting room. After Gu Linlang sat down, she dropped her smile and her expression became serious: “Linlang, be honest with Sister Yiru. Did you have two heart attacks within the last hour? And the second one was after you had already taken medicine?”
Gu Linlang pouted: “Yes.”
Qi Wanyang added: “Later, she was clutching her chest and crouching on the ground again, looking like she was about to faint. I suspect it was another heart issue.”
Gu Linlang immediately countered: “It was not! I just suddenly had a stomachache!”
“A stomachache while clutching your chest?” Qi Wanyang’s retort was pointed.
“I, I… Hmph, none of your business!” Gu Linlang ran out of words and simply resorted to acting spoiled.
Xu Yiru quickly interrupted them, asking softly: “Linlang, was it a stomachache or angina?”
Gu Linlang hesitated for a while, finally nodding reluctantly: “My chest felt a bit uncomfortable, but it got better quickly. I didn’t even take medicine.”
Xu Yiru looked at Qi Wanyang, who reluctantly nodded. But this unexplained recurrence of angina made Qi Wanyang even more uneasy.
Xu Yiru noticed her worry and turned to ask Gu Linlang: “Linlang, after your three heart surgeries, your condition was much more stable. Why did it flare up so suddenly tonight?”
Seeing Gu Linlang’s evasive gaze, Xu Yiru stated seriously: “Don’t hide anything from me, Linlang. This is for your own good.”
Knowing she couldn’t hide it, Gu Linlang had to confess honestly: “It’s my birthday tonight, and everyone was drinking happily, so I couldn’t resist… My dad is strict, so I secretly brought half a bottle of wine and snuck to the rose garden to drink it. I thought a couple of sips would be fine, but then my heart suddenly went bad…”
Xu Yiru frowned upon hearing this, but since the damage was done, she sternly warned: “Linlang, you can’t touch a single drop of alcohol from now on, and your diet needs special attention. Do you understand?”
Thinking of how she died from a heart attack in the previous life, Gu Linlang nodded vigorously: “I know, I know. I won’t drink even if I die of thirst now.”
Qi Wanyang had already suspected she was secretly drinking. Hearing her promise made her feel a little relieved.
Following this, Xu Yiru wrote out a list of tests and took Gu Linlang for a cardiac ultrasound, ECG, and other examinations. Qi Wanyang stayed by their side the entire time, seemingly afraid Gu Linlang might suffer some mishap.
“Sis, ask a certain someone why she forgot to bring her medicine. She’s not a 10-year-old child anymore, yet she still can’t take care of herself.” Qi Wanyang suddenly spoke, her tone laced with blame. The “10 years old” she referred to was an incident that happened when she and Gu Linlang were ten.
That year, Gu Linlang, busy playing, forgot to bring her medicine, resulting in a severe heart attack that nearly killed her.
Gu Linlang remembered she hadn’t shed a single tear that day, but Qi Wanyang, who was watching over her, cried buckets as if she were the one suffering the heart disease.
Fortunately, Gu Linlang’s father, Gu Hongyi, arrived in time with the medicine, saving her life. It was from that moment that Qi Wanyang learned about Gu Linlang’s congenital heart condition and became excessively nosy—forbidding her from running, jumping, eating certain foods, or drinking certain things, and constantly asking if she had brought her medicine, treating her like a three-year-old.
If Gu Linlang insisted on running around, eating recklessly, or deliberately lied to Qi Wanyang about not having her medicine, Qi Wanyang would call her father, Gu Hongyi.
Gu Linlang hated being controlled and monitored, especially being tattled on. Soon, she found Qi Wanyang more annoying than her father and began to distance herself, playing with other children.
But Qi Wanyang was like an ever-present shadow, always following her, monitoring her, controlling her, and frequently reporting back to her father. Their relationship deteriorated rapidly as a result and had never been repaired since.
Gu Linlang thought their relationship was beyond repair because, even after Qi Wanyang was abroad for four years, she returned exactly the same, still excessively nosy. A leopard never changes its spots. She certainly didn’t want to make peace with this Qi Wanyang.
“Linlang, you…” Xu Yiru was about to speak but was interrupted by Gu Linlang: “Sister Yiru, please tell her—Hmph, I’m too lazy to talk to that self-righteous ‘meddling busybody’.” She deliberately leaned closer to Xu Yiru and lowered her voice: “Sister Yiru, I’ll only tell you: I didn’t forget my medicine. My hand just slipped when I took it out, and the bottle fell into the drain.”
Gu Linlang deliberately treated Qi Wanyang and Xu Yiru differently to annoy Qi Wanyang. However, she didn’t tell the complete truth—she hadn’t accidentally dropped the medicine; she threw it away herself.
In the previous life, she had a heart attack in the restroom, and her personal medicine was swapped. Taking it did nothing, which is how she died.
The Rebirth System just happened to activate when she was taking the medicine, and seeing the pill bottle made her instinctively throw it. But how could she tell anyone about such a strange, reborn incident?
On the other side, Qi Wanyang was indeed visibly angered, her shoulders clearly shaking. Xu Yiru quickly patted her arm, signaling her to calm down. Qi Wanyang finally took a deep breath.
Seeing Qi Wanyang frustrated, Gu Linlang became even more provocative, deliberately challenging her: “Hehe, but speaking of which, why would a certain someone carry the exact medicine I usually take? That’s suspicious, you know~”
