Chapter 30: 030 Anything Would Do, As Long As She Could Just Smile.
Just then, the sharp voice that had just been leading the accusations against Qi Wanyang rang out again, but this time with a hint of kindness: “So it’s Miss Gu of Gu Sheng. Miss Gu, what exactly is the project collaboration you mentioned? No rush, though. I will personally host you once our meeting concludes.”
Gu Linlang glanced over, seeing a man in his early fifties smiling at her. Gu Linlang naturally recognized this person; it was Qi Wanyang’s second uncle, Qi Yuefeng.
Tsk. Qi Wanyang hadn’t officially resigned from the CEO position yet, and he was already so eager to take her place? Gu Linlang sneered internally, but her expression remained calm.
“Hello, Uncle Qi. Long time no see. Although I’d love to catch up with you and hear your teachings, my dad specifically instructed me that this smart drug development, the Xuanji system project—” she deliberately drew out her words, her eyes sweeping across the conference room, finally settling back on Qi Wanyang, giving her a faint smile, “is only to be discussed with Ms. Qi Wanyang, the CEO.”
With that, she snapped her fingers. Secretary Chen immediately pulled a document from his briefcase. Gu Linlang took it and slammed it onto the conference table.
The Letter of Intent, sealed with the official stamp of the Gu Sheng Group, stood out prominently on the conference table.
“Ms. Qi, are you free now? My dad is extremely keen on this project and specifically rushed me over.”
The initially overbearing Gu Linlang’s tone softened unconsciously when addressing Qi Wanyang.
Sure enough, she was completely helpless when faced with the fragile side of Qi Wanyang.
The moment they saw the Letter of Intent, the Qi’an executives in the room exchanged bewildered looks.
Although they weren’t optimistic about the parachuting young female CEO, they had previously agreed that as long as Qi Wanyang could secure the investment, they would continue to support her work.
Now that Miss Gu of the Gu Sheng Group and Gu Hongyi’s personal secretary were both present, this collaboration seemed definite. They had no reason to continue making things difficult for Qi Wanyang.
Seeing the opportunity to overthrow Qi Wanyang slip away, Qi Yuefeng was unwilling but had to suppress his dissatisfaction, saying: “Little Yang, since Miss Gu is here in person, the collaboration is important. You should go ahead.” Even missing the opportunity, Qi Yuefeng still wanted to retain the right to speak.
After a brief moment of disorientation, Qi Wanyang quickly regained her composure.
She nodded faintly, then addressed the other executives in the conference room: “That concludes today’s meeting. I will update everyone on the detailed cooperation plan with Gu Sheng later. Meeting adjourned.”
After the meeting, Qi Wanyang led Gu Linlang and Secretary Chen to her CEO’s office.
The three sat down together on the guest sofa. Gu Linlang cheerfully handed the Letter of Intent, given to her by Secretary Chen, to Qi Wanyang.
During this time, Qi Wanyang’s assistant, Dai Na, brought coffee. The rich aroma filled the air.
Gu Linlang took a small sip, feeling the bitterness and sweet aftertaste of the coffee, while subtly taking in the office’s surroundings.
The office decor was simple and grand, with minimal embellishments, yet every detail revealed nobility and taste.
A few abstract paintings hung on the wall, adding a touch of artistic flair to the entire space.
However, Gu Linlang’s gaze quickly fixated on Qi Wanyang.
Qi Wanyang was wearing black-rimmed glasses and was engrossed in reading the Letter of Intent.
Her excessively beautiful face looked even more refined framed by the glasses. Her focused expression exuded an inexplicable sense of intellectual beauty.
This was the first time Gu Linlang had seen this side of Qi Wanyang. It was so fresh that she unwittingly found herself staring blankly.
But beautiful as the woman was, Gu Linlang felt something was missing.
When her eyes slowly fell upon Qi Wanyang’s tightly pursed lips, Gu Linlang suddenly realized that Qi Wanyang hadn’t smiled yet.
At that thought, Gu Linlang’s heart softened.
Putting herself in Qi Wanyang’s shoes, her grandmother had just passed away, and the company executives were kicking her while she was down. Even her only uncle was eyeing her position, eager to take over.
In such a vulnerable and isolated situation, no one could smile.
Gu Linlang regretted her childish tantrum last night, which had prevented her from immediately telling Qi Wanyang the good news about her father agreeing to the collaboration, almost causing Qi Wanyang to resign and take the blame.
For some reason she couldn’t explain, she desperately wanted to see Qi Wanyang smile again.
Anything would do, as long as she could just smile.
Completely unaware that her thoughts had drifted, Gu Linlang continued to stare intently at Qi Wanyang, lost in thought.
“What are you looking at?” A familiar voice sounded in her ear. Gu Linlang instantly snapped back. She was embarrassed to find that Qi Wanyang had finished reading the document and was looking up at her.
Gu Linlang’s cheeks felt warm, but she feigned composure. She took a sip of coffee and asked: “Ms. Qi, are you done reviewing it?”
Qi Wanyang gently nodded: “Yes. Thank you for your company’s willingness to collaborate with us.” Her voice was clear and gentle, yet held a subtle sense of distance.
Not seeing Qi Wanyang’s smile, Gu Linlang felt a little disappointed and muttered: “Just thanking our company?”
“Of course, I must also thank Uncle Gu for his support, and Miss Gu for the introduction,” Qi Wanyang replied appropriately. However, this very proper and distant manner suddenly made Gu Linlang irritable.
Gu Linlang abruptly leaned forward, wanting to break the deliberately maintained distance.
But Qi Wanyang reflexively leaned back, pulling the distance between them further apart.
This obvious evasive movement was like a thorn, unexpectedly pricking the core of Gu Linlang’s heart.
“Hmph, no sincerity,” Gu Linlang sneered, picking up her bag and standing up. “If you want to thank my dad, go thank him in person.” She threw down the statement, her high heels clicking tap-tap-tap as she walked out, her back radiating anger.
Qi Wanyang watched the direction of her departure, her brows slightly furrowed.
Secretary Chen beside her pushed up his glasses, his eyes behind the lenses filled with confusion. His Miss Gu’s sudden temper was completely baffling.
“Ms. Qi, I should also take my leave then,” Secretary Chen stood up and politely asked: “Do you have anything you’d like me to convey to Mr. Gu?”
Qi Wanyang retracted her gaze and stood up as well, letting out a soft sigh: “Miss Gu is right. Some thanks should indeed be expressed in person.” She turned to Secretary Chen, her voice returning to its usual composure: “Please inform Uncle Gu that I will visit as soon as possible to discuss the subsequent cooperation details.”
“Understood,” Secretary Chen bowed slightly. Qi Wanyang motioned for Dai Na to see him out.
