Chapter 5: 005 “Qi Wanyang, Who Said I’m Staying At Your House!”
The remark made Gu Linlang pause. Qi Wanyang cared about her opinion? She gave a dry laugh, certain the other woman was just mocking her. Too lazy to engage further, she boredly pulled out her phone. The screen lit up, showing over a dozen missed calls! Gu Linlang suddenly recalled that she had intentionally silenced her phone while secretly drinking in the rose garden to avoid interruptions.
Just as she was thinking this, the phone screen lit up again. The caller ID was none other than her father, Gu Hongyi, who had made the dozen-plus missed calls.
Thinking of her tragic death in the restroom in the previous life, unable to see the father who loved her most one last time, Gu Linlang’s eyes welled up. Her voice was trembling as she answered the call: “Dad…”
Hearing the distress in his daughter’s voice, Gu Hongyi immediately grew anxious: “What’s wrong, darling? Did someone bully you? Tell me where you are, and I’ll come pick you up right away.”
“I’m at…” Gu Linlang glanced at the hospital setting. Remembering her heart relapse and the waiting test results, she didn’t want to worry her dad. She quickly took a deep breath, forcing a cheerful tone: “Dad, you misheard. I’m doing great. Who in Longcheng would dare give me a hard time?”
Except for a certain someone! Gu Linlang glared resentfully at Qi Wanyang. Unfortunately, the glare had no effect; Qi Wanyang didn’t flinch, staring right back with a cryptic, half-smile on her face. Gu Linlang gritted her teeth in annoyance but had to continue: “I’m with Qi Wanyang right now. Dad, did you know she came back today?”
On the other end, Gu Hongyi breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing his daughter was with Qi Wanyang: “Xiao Yang, I know. She came back early this morning. I even specially sent her an invitation to your birthday banquet. She said she might not be able to make it today, but I didn’t expect her to go looking for you anyway. That child has always been sensible and cares a lot about you. With her by your side, I’m relieved.”
Gu Linlang rolled her eyes internally. Cares about her? She was clearly just controlling her since childhood! And constantly tattling! This Qi Wanyang’s ability to feign innocence was first-rate, completely fooling her dad.
“Linlang, why didn’t you answer my calls when you were with Xiao Yang? Dad was almost frantic. Do you know how many calls I made and how many people I sent to look for you? Where exactly are you two right now?” Gu Hongyi’s voice became anxious again.
“We… We are at…” Gu Linlang stumbled over her words, wracking her brain for an excuse. Then, her father’s voice came over the phone again: “Is Xiao Yang nearby? Hand the phone to her.”
Gu Linlang panicked, looking up to glare at Qi Wanyang, who was smiling teasingly. She didn’t know why this woman was so smug.
“Linlang? Why haven’t you given the phone to Xiao Yang yet? Are you lying to Daddy again? Who are you really with right now?” Gu Hongyi’s voice went up several notches.
Gu Linlang pouted, a hint of childish grievance in her voice: “What do you mean ‘again’? How would I dare lie to you? I really am with Qi Wanyang. I’ll let her take the phone now, just a moment.”
She then quickly covered the mouthpiece, lowering her voice to speak to Qi Wanyang: “My dad wants to talk to you. But—” She widened her eyes: “You are absolutely not allowed to say we’re at the hospital, and you are not allowed to mention my heart attack!” Gu Linlang was feeling suspicious. In the previous life, she had a heart attack from secretly drinking, but she took her medicine in time and was fine; no one ever knew. Now, Qi Wanyang’s sudden appearance had complicated things immensely.
Qi Wanyang raised an eyebrow, an expression that made Gu Linlang nervous. What trick was this stinky fox plotting now? However, Qi Wanyang agreed readily: “Sure.”
But just as Gu Linlang was about to hand the phone over, Qi Wanyang suddenly leaned in close to her ear and whispered: “However, you have to promise me one thing.”
Gu Linlang was furious. This stinky fox was too good at taking advantage! Negotiating even over this minor thing! She nodded through gritted teeth. Only then did Qi Wanyang smile and take the phone, her voice instantly dropping eight degrees in warmth: “Hello, Uncle Gu, this is Wanyang.”
Gu Hongyi on the other end was clearly delighted. Although Gu Linlang couldn’t hear the specifics, she knew her dad must be praising her, judging by Qi Wanyang’s smug smile. Gu Linlang felt a pang of bitterness. Since childhood, her dad had always favored Qi Wanyang, constantly telling her to learn from her until her ears were practically calloused.
“Xiao Yang, I see it’s about to pour down rain. Where are you now? I’ll send someone to pick her up.” Gu Hongyi’s voice came through the phone.
Qi Wanyang glanced up at the skylight. A flash of lightning cut through the night sky, followed by a loud clap of thunder. Gu Linlang flinched, quickly covering her ears. Seeing this, Qi Wanyang’s eyes softened a bit. She spoke into the phone: “Uncle Gu, Linlang and I are in the car. Why don’t you let her stay at my place tonight? It’s safer than driving in a downpour.”
As the thunder faded, Gu Linlang, who had just lowered her hands, heard this and immediately jumped up in a fury: “Qi Wanyang, who said I’m staying at your house!”
Qi Wanyang had already hung up the phone. She looked at Gu Linlang’s outburst and smiled innocently: “Eldest Miss Gu, you have to keep your word, right?”
Gu Linlang’s heart sank. She knew it. Sure enough, Qi Wanyang slowly began: “Eldest Miss Gu just promised me one thing. My memory is poor, and I’m afraid I’ll forget, so why don’t we fulfill it now? I would like to ask Eldest Miss Gu the honor of staying at my house to continue our little reunion.”
Gu Linlang stamped her foot in frustration, pacing back and forth anxiously. Qi Wanyang followed her unhurriedly, moving one step every time Gu Linlang moved, like a shadow, making Gu Linlang even more irritated.
Suddenly, another clap of thunder exploded. Gu Linlang screamed and leaped right into Qi Wanyang’s arms, not even hearing the System prompt of +15 points being added.
Qi Wanyang was momentarily startled by the sudden embrace, then the corner of her mouth curled up. She instinctively wrapped her arms around the girl.
Just then, the VIP elevator door opened, and Xu Yiru walked out, holding the report. Seeing the scene, she teasingly shielded her eyes with the report: “Oh dear, did I come at a bad time? Please continue, I saw absolutely nothing.”
Gu Linlang finally realized she was still clutching Qi Wanyang. Her face instantly flushed red like a cooked shrimp. She quickly pushed Qi Wanyang away, mortified enough to curl her toes.
Qi Wanyang, uncharacteristically, didn’t add fuel to the fire. Instead, she shielded Gu Linlang behind her: “Sis, stop joking. Is the report out? How’s the situation?”
Xu Yiru cleared her throat. Seeing Qi Wanyang’s seriousness, she stopped teasing: “The test results show no major issues. Just pay attention to diet and rest, exercise moderately, and come back for regular checkups. Linlang, here’s your medicine. It’s the same as before. Remember to carry it with you and don’t lose it again.”
Gu Linlang was always well-behaved towards Xu Yiru. She nodded: “Mmm, thank you, Sister Yiru. Oh, and can we please not tell my family about tonight? Just the three of us, okay?”
Xu Yiru glanced at Qi Wanyang. Seeing no objection, she agreed: “Okay, I’ll keep it a secret. But you must follow my instructions.”
Thinking about the fragility of life, Gu Linlang completely abandoned her previous carelessness and solemnly raised her hand to promise: “I will definitely follow the doctor’s orders. I’ll watch my diet, not drink alcohol, rest on time, not stay up late, take a walk every day, and come back for regular checkups. Sister Yiru, when is the next checkup?”
Xu Yiru smiled contentedly. Just as she was about to pat her head, she felt Qi Wanyang’s warning gaze and quickly withdrew her hand.
Qi Wanyang was slightly surprised by Gu Linlang’s change in attitude. She used to feel sick just smelling disinfectant; now she was actively asking for a checkup? Four years apart, has this girl changed her ways?
This is a good thing. Qi Wanyang said meaningfully: “Eldest Miss Gu always keeps her word. Don’t worry, Sis, she will definitely come back for checkups on time.”
Xu Yiru nodded in satisfaction: “I’ll notify you one week before the checkup date.”
“Thank you, Sister Yiru.” Gu Linlang said gratefully.
Qi Wanyang gave Xu Yiru a look, and Xu Yiru suddenly remembered: “Oh, my memory! I almost forgot about the main thing.”
Gu Linlang looked confused: “What main thing?”
Xu Yiru chuckled, pulling the exquisite gift box from her lab coat pocket: “Ta-da! Linlang, someone specifically asked me to deliver this to you as a birthday gift, you know~”
“A birthday gift? For me? From someone at the hospital?” Gu Linlang was baffled. She didn’t know anyone else at the hospital besides Xu Yiru.
Xu Yiru shook her finger: “No, no, no, not from the hospital. But the person is indeed connected to our hospital. They’re a bit shy and embarrassed to give it to you in person, but their sincerity is absolutely real. Linlang, just accept it~” She meaningfully glanced at Qi Wanyang while speaking.
Indeed, her “shy” cousin’s ears were red, and her eyes were warning her not to say too much.
Gu Linlang looked at the gift box, hesitating: “Sister Yiru, I really appreciate their kindness, but it’s not appropriate to accept gifts from strangers. Could you please return it for me?”
Xu Yiru quickly used Qi Wanyang’s instructions: “Don’t be so quick to refuse. The sender said they hope you’ll look at the gift before deciding. They promised they won’t ask for anything in return, and this person always keeps their word. Linlang, just open it and take a look~”
Qi Wanyang interjected at the right moment, her tone provocative: “Eldest Miss Gu is afraid to accept a gift? I’m curious what kind of gift could make Eldest Miss Gu so indecisive.”
This immediately sparked Gu Linlang’s competitive spirit. Afraid to accept a gift? She could just return the favor later.
“Fine, I’ll see what this treasure is.” Gu Linlang deftly unwrapped the box.
Xu Yiru leaned in curiously, staring wide-eyed at the box.
As the box opened, a silver bracelet inlaid with a deep blue gemstone slowly appeared before the three of them. The gemstone was extraordinary. As the light shifted, ripples shimmered within the gem, like the light of the deep sea gently dancing on the silver chain.
Gu Linlang’s eyes lit up. She immediately recognized the gemstone: “Is this… the ‘Tear of the Deep Sea’? There are only a few in the entire world.”
For certain reasons, Gu Linlang had always longed to possess the “Tear of the Deep Sea.” In her previous life, she had commissioned people to search everywhere for it, but she never even saw a shadow of it, let alone acquired one.
Now, this legendary “Tear of the Deep Sea” had unexpectedly appeared right before her eyes, like a dream.
Gu Linlang was so stunned she couldn’t close her mouth, filled with curiosity and doubt. Who was so generous as to give her such a grand gift?
