The Movie Queen Confesses to Me on Weibo Everyday - Chapter 17
Ruan Xingchen was eventually pushed out the door by Lu Qiyue.
Looking at the tightly shut door, Ruan Xingchen gave a soft laugh, pulled out her phone, and started scrolling through Weibo as she headed downstairs.
Noticing she had made headlines again, she suddenly remembered she hadn’t publicly confessed to Yueyue on Weibo today.
For her third Weibo post, Ruan Xingchen had originally planned something else. But after luring Yueyue into her home—and into her bed—yesterday, she decided to change the content.
She opened her photo album, selected a picture of two pairs of slippers neatly placed side by side at the bedside, and uploaded it directly to Weibo.
No caption was needed—anyone could see the unspoken pride hidden in that image.
The moment Ruan Xingchen posted it, Lu Qiyue came downstairs fully dressed.
Ruan Xingchen stood up, walked over, and naturally took Lu Qiyue’s hand. “Yueyue, I’ll take you to work later.”
Remembering how they had been swarmed at the supermarket last night, Lu Qiyue shook her head without hesitation. “No need, I can go by myself.”
Her workplace was in a busy commercial district, with just as many people coming and going as the supermarket. If Ruan Xingchen showed her face there, the commotion would be anything but small.
Rejected, Ruan Xingchen instantly understood Lu Qiyue’s concern and quickly reassured her, “I won’t get out of the car.”
Taking the person she loved to work—though an ordinary part of daily life—was something Ruan Xingchen had longed for.
She yearned to drive Lu Qiyue to work, and even more, to introduce herself to others I’m Ruan Xingchen, her girlfriend. Her pitiful, pleading gaze made Lu Qiyue wonder if she was being too harsh.
After all, Ruan Xingchen just wanted to take her to work.
“Well… alright.” After a long pause, Lu Qiyue couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
They had stayed up late the night before and woken up late, so there wasn’t much time to talk before Lu Qiyue had to leave for work.
Ruan Xingchen had no choice but to drop the conversation and drive her.
In the car, Ruan Xingchen didn’t forget to bring up Lu Qiyue moving in with her. Keeping her eyes on the road, she said, “Later, I’ll go with Song Yang to your rental place to pack some of your clothes and bring them over.”
“Oh, and I want to buy that apartment.”
“Buy it?” Lu Qiyue turned to her, confused.
Ruan Xingchen glanced at her with a smile. “That place holds too many memories for us. If we give it up, the landlord will rent it to someone else. I can’t bear that.”
“Besides, it won’t cost much.”
She meant to ease Lu Qiyue’s worries, but her words had the opposite effect—Lu Qiyue, who had just tentatively stepped out of her shell, immediately retreated again.
Lu Qiyue had also considered buying the apartment, but when she asked the landlord, the price was far beyond her savings.
It would take her years to earn enough.
Yet for Ruan Xingchen, it was effortless—just a simple decision.
A weight settled in Lu Qiyue’s chest, reminding her that the chasm between them had never truly disappeared.
“Don’t buy it.” After a long silence, Lu Qiyue’s voice was heavy.
Ruan Xingchen: “??”
Blinking, Ruan Xingchen couldn’t quite grasp what she meant.
“Yueyue…”
“No need to buy it.” Lu Qiyue repeated, her tone firmer this time as she looked up at Ruan Xingchen’s chiseled profile. “I’ll keep renting the apartment. I’ll keep renting it forever.”
“Ruan Xingchen, I don’t need you arranging my future.” Her voice turned icy as she spoke, her whole body bristling with irritation.
Ruan Xingchen: “??”
“Yueyue, didn’t you promise last night to call me A-Ruan from now on?” The full-name address made Ruan Xingchen pout in protest. “Are you trying to ditch me after getting what you wanted?”
Lu Qiyue was stunned.
The way Ruan Xingchen said it made her sound like some irresponsible scoundrel.
And besides, she was the one who should be upset here.
Why was Ruan Xingchen the one acting all pitiful now?
“Yueyue…” Ruan Xingchen nudged the dazed Lu Qiyue.
Snapping back to reality, Lu Qiyue hurriedly explained, “I’m not, I just—”
“Then call me A-Ruan.” Ruan Xingchen cut her off, looking as though she’d accuse her of shirking responsibility if she refused.
With no other choice, Lu Qiyue relented.
“A-Ruan,” she called out.
“Mmm, A-Ruan sounds much better.” Satisfied, Ruan Xingchen finally focused on driving properly.
When they arrived at Lu Qiyue’s office building, she was about to get out when her phone suddenly rang urgently.
Pausing, she checked the caller ID—her mother. She glanced at Ruan Xingchen, knowing their trending Weibo scandal must have reached her mother’s ears. While her mom didn’t care for celebrity gossip, her younger brother definitely couldn’t keep it to himself.
Bracing herself for a scolding, Lu Qiyue answered—only to hear her mother’s panicked voice first.
“Yueyue, come home quick! Your father’s been rushed to emergency!”
Lu Qiyue’s face drained of color. “Dad… how could he—?”
Her father’s health had been fragile since his kidney transplant six years ago, but there’d never been any sudden crises. How could this happen…?
“It’s all because of you! That news about you and that… person is everywhere now. The neighbors wouldn’t stop talking about it in front of your dad, and he—he had a fit.” Her mother’s voice was thick with reproach. “The doctors say it’s critical this time. We already had to sign a critical condition notice.” She broke into sobs.
Lu Qiyue’s lips trembled, her teeth nearly drawing bl00d from her lower lip. “I’m coming home right now.”
Hanging up, she turned to Ruan Xingchen. Beneath her composed expression, her voice shook slightly. “Ruan Xingchen—”
“I’ll take you to the bus station,” Ruan Xingchen said.
She’d had people look into Lu Qiyue’s parents before. The elderly couple lived in a small county with limited transport—no bullet trains, just long-distance buses. Lu Qiyue would have to transfer from the main station.
Though Ruan Xingchen wanted to drive her home directly, given what she’d overheard, she thought it best not to go along.
Nodding, Lu Qiyue shakily texted her studio manager to request emergency leave. The suddenness of the situation meant her boss approved a week off without hesitation, even offering to extend it if needed.
Ruan Xingchen saw Lu Qiyue off at the train station. Watching as Lu Qiyue entered the station, Ruan Xingchen pondered for a few seconds before taking out his phone to make a call: “Sister Yin, it’s me.”
