The Movie Queen Confesses to Me on Weibo Everyday - Chapter 20
Ruan Xingchen was still uneasy—whether it was about Yin Bailu or the situation with Lu Qiyue’s father—so she finished her work as quickly as possible and, accompanied by Song Yang, rushed straight to Lu Qiyue’s side.
“Xing-jie, do you think when future sister-in-law sees you suddenly appearing in front of her, she’ll be so moved she’ll immediately agree to be with you?” Song Yang fantasized about the scene, feeling exhilarated just imagining it.
Ruan Xingchen hadn’t thought that far ahead. She simply felt that Lu Qiyue needed her right now, so she went.
“But even if future sister-in-law doesn’t agree now, she’ll say yes eventually.” Seeing Ruan Xingchen’s lack of enthusiasm, Song Yang worried her earlier words had struck a nerve and quickly added, “It’s only a matter of time.”
Ruan Xingchen smiled faintly. Song Yang was right—Yueyue would agree to her sooner or later.
As they chatted, the two-hour journey passed, and Ruan Xingchen and Song Yang finally arrived at the county hospital entrance.
“Jie, should I go find sister-in-law first?” Song Yang suggested.
Ruan Xingchen shook her head. “I’ll go myself.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll disguise myself. Besides, it’s nighttime now.” With that, Ruan Xingchen grabbed a mask and hat before stepping out of the car.
She had deliberately worn loose clothing to obscure her figure, ensuring no one would immediately recognize her as Ruan Xingchen.
As she walked, she pulled out her phone and called Lu Qiyue.
“Where are you?” she asked the moment the call connected.
“I’m…” Lu Qiyue glanced around before answering, “In the hallway outside the ward.”
She had been sitting there for hours. The sky outside had long since darkened, and though Lu Qihuo had brought her dinner at one point, it sat untouched beside her, now cold.
Just like her heart—chilled along with it.
She had been sitting outside all day, and her father knew, yet he still refused to call for her or see her.
His attitude remained as unyielding as it had been six years ago—unyielding and uncompromising.
The obstacle standing between her and Ruan Xingchen was something she simply couldn’t overcome.
Ruan Xingchen had already gotten the ward number from Yin Bailu. Without hanging up, she kept Lu Qiyue on the line, exchanging idle chatter until the sound of an elevator door opening came through the phone—just as the elevator near Lu Qiyue also chimed, its noise reaching her ears and startling her.
“You… where are you?”
Ruan Xingchen knew she’d been discovered and chuckled. “Right beside you.”
Lu Qiyue’s head snapped up. Sure enough, not far away stood Ruan Xingchen, masked and hatted, fully concealed—but the moment their eyes met, Lu Qiyue knew it was her.
Her nose stung, tears welling in her eyes as she sprang to her feet and dashed toward Ruan Xingchen without a second thought.
Ruan Xingchen opened her arms in welcome, and Lu Qiyue crashed straight into her embrace.
“Why did you come?” Lu Qiyue’s voice was thick with emotion as she clung tightly to Ruan Xingchen’s waist.
“Because I missed you.” Ruan Xingchen wrapped her arms around her in return, murmuring the words low and tender against her ear.
With Lu Qiyue, Ruan Xingchen never hid her feelings—at least, not anymore, not after six years.
Sensing the sorrow in the woman in her arms, Ruan Xingchen asked gently, “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Lu Qiyue continued to nestle in Ruan Xingchen’s arms, letting out a soft hum in response.
“Ah Ruan, I want to talk to my dad, but he won’t even give me the chance,” Lu Qiyue remained silent for a long while before speaking.
“He’d rather… disown me as his daughter.” The words pained her deeply.
She wasn’t actually the biological child of the Lu family—she had been adopted by the couple. Before her relationship with Ruan Xingchen was exposed, the Lu parents had treated her extremely well. Even though Mrs. Lu favored their son more, Mr. Lu had genuinely cherished her.
That was why Lu Qiyue had always cared deeply about her adoptive father’s opinions.
They had given her not just familial love, but also the kindness of raising her.
Six years ago, torn between family and love, she had met with Ruan Xingchen’s grandfather. He told her that being with Ruan Xingchen would ruin both their futures—that she would become a subject of gossip wherever Ruan went. If she truly loved Ruan, she should leave and let her go.
Already struggling to let go of her bond with the Lu family, his words made her waver even more. Yet she had stubbornly held on—until Ruan’s grandfather suddenly fell critically ill after their meeting and passed away. Left alone, Ruan’s grief made Lu Qiyue decide to break up.
She believed herself to be a curse—that his death was her fault.
Now, six years later, fate brought them together again. Step by step, Ruan Xingchen guided her forward. Just as she gathered the courage to try again, her adoptive father refused to even speak with her.
“Ah Ruan, I think we should… take a break for now—”
“Are you… giving up on me again?” Ruan Xingchen turned Lu Qiyue to face her, eyes brimming with sorrow as she asked each word deliberately.
Lu Qiyue pressed her lips together, silent.
But silence was answer enough.
It felt like history repeating, but this time Ruan Xingchen wouldn’t let her retreat.
“Leave your father to me.” After a long silence, Ruan spoke.
Gazing at Lu Qiyue, she said, “Yueyue, I’m not asking you to choose between me and your father. But at least give me a chance to try. You can trust me completely, understand?”
“Lu Qiyue.” Ruan sighed, her voice devoid of its usual joy when seeing someone she loved. “This is the second time.”
“I hope… it’s the last.”
Feeling Ruan’s anger and disappointment, and the warmth of her embrace slipping away, Lu Qiyue finally realized how much her silence had hurt. She opened her mouth to explain, but the thought had indeed crossed her mind.
“I only meant temporarily—”
“Not even temporarily.” Ruan’s tone was firm.
“Take me to see your father now.”
Mr. Lu had woken up and was stable enough to be moved from the ICU to a regular room.
When Ruan Xingchen pushed the door open with Lu Qiyue, Mrs. Lu was reading the news aloud—a report that coincidentally mentioned Ruan’s name.
At their entrance, Mrs. Lu’s voice trailed off as both parents turned to look.
Mr. Lu’s face darkened at the sight of his daughter, but Ruan spoke first.
“My name is Ruan Xingchen.”
Ruan Xingchen finished speaking, removing her mask and hat to reveal a face identical to the one seen on screen.
