The Movie Queen Confesses to Me on Weibo Everyday - Chapter 21
“I’d like to talk to you about me and Yueyue.” Meeting Mr. Lu’s gloomy gaze head-on, Ruan Xingchen cut straight to the point.
“No need. I won’t agree. Leave now—you’re not welcome here.” Mr. Lu’s face darkened as he rudely dismissed her.
“Is that so?” Ruan Xingchen smirked coldly. “What if I told you that if I leave, the surgeon scheduled to operate on you will leave too? Your survival chances would then drop from 80-90% to 40-50%. Would you still insist I go?”
Mr. Lu: “What do you mean?”
“Exactly what I said. The surgeon operating on you was arranged by me.” Ruan Xingchen remained composed.
She hadn’t wanted to use life-or-death stakes to pressure Mr. Lu, but since he refused to even discuss matters with her, she had no choice.
“I know you might not fear death. But could you bear leaving your wife behind? Or your utterly useless son here?”
Mr. Lu was rendered speechless by Ruan Xingchen’s words.
Though harsh, her words struck right at Mr. Lu’s vulnerabilities.
Glaring fiercely at his son, Mr. Lu spat out angrily, “You worthless thing.”
Lu Qiye, unexpectedly becoming the target, flushed with humiliation and turned his anger on Ruan Xingchen.
“Actress Ruan, Lu Qiyue is my sister! You’d better—”
“Lu Qiye, shut up!” Lu Qiyue cut him off sharply before he could finish.
While unsure how to intervene in the standoff between Ruan Xingchen and her father, Lu Qiyue would always shield Ruan Xingchen from others.
A faint smile tugged at Ruan Xingchen’s lips at Lu Qiyue’s defense, her mood visibly lifting.
The icy edge in her confrontation with Mr. Lu softened slightly.
“Uncle Lu, may we talk properly now?”
Though Mr. Lu remained silent, Ruan Xingchen knew he’d acquiesced.
Turning to Lu Qiyue, Ruan Xingchen said gently, “Yueyue, please take your mother and brother outside. I’d like to speak with your father alone.”
“Don’t worry—it won’t go badly.”
After one last concerned glance at Ruan Xingchen, Lu Qiyue nodded.
Mrs. Lu looked to her husband, only leaving after receiving his subtle nod.
Lu Qiye was dragged out unwillingly by his sister.
Finally, only Ruan Xingchen and Mr. Lu remained in the hospital room.
Taking a seat, Ruan Xingchen began, “Uncle Lu, what kind of partner did you originally want for Yueyue?”
Without waiting for an answer, she continued, “I imagine you wanted someone who’d cherish her, love her, preferably with means so she’d never want. Someone who’d bring you pride—am I right?”
Mr. Lu stayed silent, acknowledging inwardly that Ruan Xingchen had indeed voiced his thoughts.
“But she fell for you,” Mr. Lu finally said after a long pause.
“Yes.” Hearing this admission from Mr. Lu himself filled Ruan Xingchen with victor’s joy. “I meet every criterion you set for Yueyue’s future partner—in fact, I surpass them all. Most importantly, this isn’t one-sided affection. We love each other equally.”
“For two people to spend a lifetime together, mutual affection is the most important thing, isn’t it?”
“But you’re a woman,” Father Lu retorted angrily, having nearly been convinced by Ruan Xingchen’s words moments earlier.
“What’s wrong with being a woman? What I can give Yuemoon, even some men couldn’t provide.” When it came to her relationship with Lu Qiyue, Ruan Xingchen never felt any regret about being a woman.
Romantic love between men and women was too common in this world—the norm. That two women could walk this long road together without giving up was all the more precious.
Father Lu was left speechless again, unable to find a single word to refute Ruan Xingchen’s arguments.
“If you truly love Yuemoon, her happiness should be your primary concern, not tearing lovers apart.”
“Yuemoon is a flesh-and-bl00d person. She feels pain and sorrow, she faces dilemmas too. Uncle Lu, could you really bear to see the treasure you’ve cherished all these years suffer in anguish every day?”
“Anyway, I’ve said all I needed to say. Whether you continue opposing us or give your blessing is entirely up to you.”
“After all, your life is still in my hands.” With this final remark, Ruan Xingchen stood up and left the hospital room.
Father Lu: …So it was still a threat in the end?
When Mother Lu, Lu Qiyue, and Lu Qihuan returned to the room without Ruan Xingchen—she knew perfectly well how infuriating her last comment had been—but it was worth it if it stopped Father Lu from interfering in her relationship with Yuemoon.
Not seeing Ruan Xingchen among them, Father Lu asked gruffly, “Where is she?”
“Who?” Mother Lu, Lu Qihuan, and Lu Qiyue were momentarily confused.
“That actress,” Father Lu added.
“Ah-Ruan is outside. I’ll go get her right away!” Realization dawning, Lu Qiyue’s face lit up as she hurried out the door. Her father was actually asking to see Ah-Ruan—did this mean he was going to approve their relationship?
“Ah-Ruan, my dad wants to see you,” Lu Qiyue called to Ruan Xingchen leaning against the wall, her voice brimming with excitement.
“Oh?” Ruan Xingchen arched an eyebrow slightly, straightened up, and took two steps forward to naturally clasp Lu Qiyue’s hand as they walked back into the room together.
Father Lu’s gaze fell on their intertwined hands when they entered, his brows furrowing slightly at the sight that still felt jarring to him. “You two…just go.”
“From now on…don’t ever come back.”
The color drained from Lu Qiyue’s previously radiant face.
“Dad…” Lu Qiyue’s lips trembled as tears streamed down instantly. “You’re…kicking me out?”
Father Lu kept his eyes lowered and gave a faint affirmative.
“You were adopted by your mother and me. The money you’ve sent back over the years has more than repaid our care. From now on…you, Lu Qiyue, will have no connection to our Lu family.” As he spoke, he stared out the window as if to distract himself, making his true feelings impossible to discern.
“Dad, what are you saying? How can you drive Jiejie away?” Lu Qihuan was shocked to learn the sister he’d known for years wasn’t biologically related, but his immediate reaction was disapproval of his father’s decision. His sister had sent plenty of money home over the years.
Besides, if it was about repaying their upbringing, shouldn’t that take a lifetime? Wasn’t that how it always worked in TV dramas?
“You have no say in this,” Father Lu immediately rebuked sternly.
He knew his son’s temperament all too well.
Turning to Ruan Xingchen, he said in a deep, mocking tone, “What’s the matter? After spouting all that grand reasoning earlier, do you now lack the courage to take her away?”
“Of course I have the courage,” Ruan Xingchen paused for a moment before pulling the grieving Lu Qiyue into her arms. “But your decision…”
It was somewhat unexpected. Ruan Xingchen didn’t quite understand—if Father Lu hadn’t approved of her relationship with Yueyue, why would he let her take Yueyue away? And if he had approved, why would he insist on her leaving with Yueyue?
