The Movie Queen Confesses to Me on Weibo Everyday - Chapter 26
“The most ceremonious confession? Does Sister Chen not realize she’s confessing every single day?”
“Confessing daily in front of hundreds of millions of netizens—isn’t that romantic enough? Doesn’t that count as ceremonial?”
“Hey, you guys are missing the point. The real news is that Sister Chen finally won her over, right?”
“Oh right! So what should we do? Throw confetti?”
“Of course we’ll throw confetti! I think we should gather all the collective wishes of us Stars to make Sister Chen go live.”
“Live broadcast +1”
“Live broadcast +10086”
…
Within moments of Ruan Xingchen’s Weibo post, the comments had piled up into a towering thread.
As Ruan Xingchen’s assistant, Song Yang kept a close eye on Weibo.
But this direction the comments were taking… wasn’t it a bit off?
Song Yang thought her Sister Chen’s message was crystal clear—she was clearly asking everyone for advice, so how… did it turn into everyone demanding a live broadcast of the confession?
“Sister Chen…” Song Yang handed the phone to Ruan Xingchen, signaling that she shouldn’t pin her hopes on netizens.
Ruan Xingchen: “…”
Her Stars were absolutely the most unreliable fans in history.
With a dark expression, Ruan Xingchen slapped her phone onto the seat.
Beside her, Lu Qiyue, who had been observing Ruan Xingchen’s mood, curled her lips in delight.
Lu Qiyue would never tell her A’Xuan that the comment that derailed the thread was posted from her alt account.
Two hours later, Ruan Xingchen and Lu Qiyue arrived at the reserved restaurant first, while Song Yang went to pick up Yin Bailu.
The restaurant Song Yang chose wasn’t far from the hospital, so it only took half an hour to get there.
Yin Bailu, having rested, looked much better. Upon seeing Ruan Xingchen and Lu Qiyue, she first nodded politely at Lu Qiyue, then turned to Ruan Xingchen with a smile. “I just saw your Weibo. Seems like you still need to sweep your beauty off her feet.”
“How about it? Want this older sister to give you some advice?”
Ruan Xingchen’s eyes lit up, instinctively about to listen, but before she could speak, her foot was stomped on hard, making her gasp in pain.
She looked at Lu Qiyue, her eyes questioning: Why did you stomp on me?
But Lu Qiyue acted as if she didn’t see Ruan Xingchen’s gaze, her attention shifting to the menu on the table, studying it intently.
Ruan Xingchen: “…”
“Um, I appreciate the offer, Sister Yin, but I think I’ll pass. A confession should come from the heart—it’s more sincere that way,” Ruan Xingchen declined with a shake of her head.
Yin Bailu glanced at Lu Qiyue, a flicker of disappointment flashing in her eyes, but she still smiled and nodded. “No problem.”
She had hoped for a chance to share the confession scenario she’d imagined countless times with Ruan Xingchen.
It was a bit of a regret, after all.
After dinner, Yin Bailu returned to the hotel to rest, while Ruan Xingchen dragged Lu Qiyue around the city where Lu Qiyue had grown up.
At the mention of childhood, Lu Qiyue’s face couldn’t help but light up with a smile.
“Let’s go to the night market! I loved going there as a kid—so many delicious foods and fun things to see,” Lu Qiyue said excitedly.
She and Ruan Xingchen had met in college, so neither had been part of the other’s childhood. Now, being able to take Ruan Xingchen to the places she had loved most as a child filled Lu Qiyue with immense satisfaction.
As for Song Yang, she hesitated when she heard this suggestion.
The night market was indeed a fun place, but had her Chen-jie forgotten her own status? If she got recognized there…
Song Yang had a feeling that Sister Zhang was about to have her hands full again.
Her premonition was quickly confirmed.
Even though Ruan Xingchen had disguised herself, she had forgotten that Lu Qiyue—thanks to her bold public confession on Weibo—was now widely recognized as well.
The moment the two stepped into the night market, before they could even start browsing, a middle school girl approached Ruan Xingchen.
The girl stared at her unblinkingly, her excitement growing visibly.
“Are you… Ruan Xingchen? AHHHHHH, Mom, I just met Ruan Xingchen in real life!” Once confirmed, the girl let out a piercing scream.
Her friend, likely wanting to share in the excitement (or chaos), immediately screamed along.
“Actress Ruan Xingchen? It’s really Actress Ruan Xingchen! And her husband…”
Ruan Xingchen: “……” Real life? Was she dead before this?
But reality didn’t give her time to dwell on it. She quickly muttered, “Thank you for your support,” before grabbing Lu Qiyue’s hand and bolting.
Her escape only drew more attention.
Without hesitation, passersby started chasing them.
Soon, the entire night market was in an uproar. Even some vendors joined in the commotion—some chasing, others snapping photos—turning the small county into a scene of pure chaos.
Ruan Xingchen was relentlessly pursued for two whole streets before she and Lu Qiyue were finally cornered in a dead-end alley.
Exchanging a glance, both women felt a wave of despair.
There was no way out.
Just as they were contemplating their next move, a door in the alley suddenly creaked open.
A woman in her thirties peeked out, drawn by the noise outside. Seeing nothing particularly interesting, she was about to close the door when her gaze landed on Ruan Xingchen and Lu Qiyue.
“Lu Qiyue?” The woman blinked before calling out her name.
She stepped forward warmly. “Lu Qiyue, what are you doing here? Weren’t you working out of town? When did you come back?”
“Liu Tingting?” Lu Qiyue recognized her—a high school classmate.
Her eyes flicked to the open door. “Liu Tingting, is this your home?”
Liu Tingting nodded.
“Can we hide inside for a bit?” Lu Qiyue asked urgently, her gaze pleading.
“Hide?” Before Liu Tingting could process the request, the sound of the approaching crowd grew louder. Without another thought, Lu Qiyue pulled Ruan Xingchen inside and shut the door behind them.
The pursuers, arriving moments later, found only Liu Tingting in the empty alley. With no other exits, they turned and ran in another direction.
By the time Liu Tingting re-entered the house, Ruan Xingchen had already removed her mask and hat, revealing her face.
“Y-you… y-you…” Liu Tingting’s eyes widened, her tongue stumbling over her shock.
“Yes, I’m Ruan Xingchen.” She smiled politely and introduced herself.
“So the rumors online are true? Lu Qiyue, the Best Actress really likes you?” Liu Tingting finally snapped out of her daze, looking at Lu Qiyue with eyes full of reverence. “Lu Qiyue, you’re amazing! You actually became the Best Actress’s lover. But I think I’m pretty awesome too, hehe…”
Having a high school classmate who’s the Best Actress’s beloved—just this thought alone filled her with pride.
“And Best Actress Ruan is so beautiful,” Liu Tingting couldn’t take her eyes off her. “I used to think all those beauties on screen were just the result of makeup, and in reality, they might be… but Best Actress Ruan is definitely a true goddess-level beauty.”
Ruan Xingchen: …This should be a compliment, right?!
Suddenly, a sharp ringtone broke the silence.
Ruan Xingchen gave Liu Tingting an apologetic smile before stepping aside to answer her phone.
“Hello…”
“Xingchen, are you okay?” Her manager Zhang Ye’s anxious voice came through.
“I’m fine now,” Ruan Xingchen replied.
“Good, good. My god, you have no idea how scared I was when I saw the videos netizens uploaded earlier.” The massive crowd in those videos had Zhang Ye terrified that her artist might end up trampled to death. “And you—what were you thinking, going to a night market like that? Don’t you know how attention-grabbing your face is?”
She was the nation’s Best Actress. From elderly folks in their seventies and eighties to toddlers aged three or four, who didn’t know the name Ruan Xingchen? And that face of hers—didn’t she realize it was practically becoming a household image by now?
“Also, when are you planning to come back? I saw your Weibo—you’ve gotten what you wanted, right? Shouldn’t you focus on your career now?” Zhang Ye felt she was the most tolerant manager ever.
If this were any other artist, their manager would have put a stop to it immediately.
“Love might fill your soul, but it won’t fill your stomach,” Zhang Ye lectured earnestly.
Ruan Xingchen gave a soft hum. “Sister Zhang, I understand.”
“I’ll be back soon.”
After hanging up, Ruan Xingchen returned to Lu Qiyue’s side, who immediately sighed in relief.
Aside from Ji Yuchen, Liu Tingting was the second friend who knew about her relationship with Ruan Xingchen. She had thought Ji Yuchen was already quite enthusiastic and talkative, but meeting Liu Tingting made her realize there were people even more so. Liu Tingting had practically bombarded her with endless questions about Ruan Xingchen.
Lu Qiyue tugged at Ruan Xingchen’s sleeve. “Who was that? Did you call Song Yang? I think… we might need her to pick us up.”
Speak of the devil—as soon as Lu Qiyue mentioned it, Ruan Xingchen’s phone rang again. It was Song Yang.
Ruan Xingchen was about to step away to answer when Lu Qiyue grabbed her arm. “Just take it here. Tingting isn’t an outsider.”
Ruan Xingchen raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly, glanced at Liu Tingting, then answered the call in front of both of them.
“Chen-jie, where are you? Are you okay? Is jiefu okay?” Song Yang’s frantic voice came through immediately.
“It’s fine, Song Yang. Come pick us up—I’ll send you the location.” Ruan Xingchen spoke while sending their coordinates via WeChat. Shortly after, she heard Song Yang’s excited voice: “Chen-jie, I’m actually nearby right now! Be there in about two minutes, wait for me!”
Two minutes later, Song Yang arrived. Ruan Xingchen and Lu Qiyue stood up to bid farewell to Liu Tingting.
Looking at Ruan Xingchen, Liu Tingting hesitated for a long moment before finally speaking up: “Um… Actress Ruan, could I take a photo with you?”
Her gaze shifting to Lu Qiyue, she added: “Actually, it’d be best if Yueyue could join too. That way I’d be the first person to take a group photo with both of you, right?”
