The Movie Queen Confesses to Me on Weibo Everyday - Chapter 5
Lu Qiyue was utterly stunned. What words could possibly describe the Ruan Xingchen before her now? Shameless? A scoundrel?
Lu Qiyue couldn’t believe Ruan Xingchen had such a side to her.
Her heart, defying its owner’s control, began to beat wildly with joy.
Afraid Ruan Xingchen might notice the turmoil in her heart, Lu Qiyue quickly lowered her gaze, pressing her lips tightly together.
“I… I just…” Lu Qiyue racked her brain, trying to come up with an excuse to brush this off, but as always, she found herself tongue-tied in front of Ruan Xingchen.
Her eyes reddened, and in her frustration, tears spilled over.
“Why did you suddenly do this? For the past six years, we’ve kept our distance and lived our own quiet lives just fine, haven’t we?”
Seeing Lu Qiyue cry, Ruan Xingchen’s eyes also reddened, and she began to reflect on whether she had pushed too hard, too fast.
But six years—two thousand one hundred and ninety days—had nearly driven her to madness.
With a sigh, Ruan Xingchen said, “It wasn’t fine.”
“These six years… I haven’t been fine at all.”
“I’ve thought of you every single day, especially at night. The longing was like a parasite, gnawing relentlessly at my heart. That’s why I often couldn’t sleep. So I threw myself into work, exhausting every last bit of my energy—because only then could I temporarily forget you. But sometimes, even that wasn’t enough. You’d still linger in my mind, and in the end, I had to rely on sleeping pills…” Ruan Xingchen spoke calmly, but Lu Qiyue’s heart clenched in shock.
Especially when Ruan Xingchen mentioned relying on sleeping pills, Lu Qiyue forgot all about her own tears.
“You can’t take sleeping pills. You mustn’t take them.” Tears still clung to Lu Qiyue’s lashes, her face flushed from crying, now etched with urgency and worry.
Only then did Lu Qiyue take a proper look at Ruan Xingchen and realize how terrible her mental state seemed. Heavy dark circles shadowed her eyes, though they were somewhat concealed by makeup—hard to notice unless one looked closely.
Horrified, Lu Qiyue blurted, “How long has it been since you slept properly?”
Ruan Xingchen thought for a moment. Recently, she’d been rushing through a demanding film shoot, working day and night, so her rest had been poor. Add alcohol to the mix… She answered honestly, “Three days. Six hours of sleep.”
Three days, six hours—just two hours a day. No wonder her complexion was so haggard, barely masked by makeup.
Lu Qiyue’s heart ached. When she broke up with Ruan Xingchen, she had wanted her to live well—not end up like this.
The thought that Ruan Xingchen had been like this for six years filled Lu Qiyue with overwhelming guilt.
“Then… then you should go get some proper sleep first,” Lu Qiyue urged anxiously.
Ruan Xingchen shook her head, gazing at Lu Qiyue with pitiful eyes. “I can’t sleep.”
Lu Qiyue felt that Ruan Xingchen had truly changed. The old Ruan Xingchen would never have shown vulnerability in front of her. Yet faced with this seemingly fragile version of her, Lu Qiyue’s heart melted completely—so much so that she even forgot why she had come in the first place.
Recalling Ruan Xingchen’s mention that even sleeping pills sometimes failed to help her sleep, Lu Qiyue quickly took out her phone and called Ji Yuchen.
Ji Yuchen was a doctor—perhaps she had a solution.
The call connected almost instantly. Before Ji Yuchen could speak, Lu Qiyue cut straight to the point: “Yuchen, do you know any ways to help someone with insomnia get a good night’s sleep?”
“You’re having insomnia?” Ji Yuchen, busy at the moment, reflexively assumed Lu Qiyue was referring to herself.
Lu Qiyue shook her head in denial. “Not me, it’s… a friend of mine.”
“Her insomnia is severe. Even sleeping pills don’t work well.”
“That serious?” Ji Yuchen was surprised to hear someone couldn’t sleep despite taking sleeping pills. Sensing Lu Qiyue’s urgency, she pondered for a few seconds before replying, “Then I think she should see a psychologist. Alternatively, she could try sleeping in her favorite environment or with her favorite person nearby—see if that helps.”
“Still, I’d recommend seeing a psychologist. Her condition clearly stems from excessive psychological stress or other underlying issues.”
“By the way, Yueyue, who is this friend? Do I know her? I’ve never heard you mention having any friends besides me.” In Ji Yuchen’s memory, Lu Qiyue’s personality bordered on reclusive. Had she misjudged her?
Lu Qiyue didn’t answer. After thanking Ji Yuchen, she hung up.
Considering Ji Yuchen’s suggestion, Lu Qiyue bit her lower lip hesitantly before speaking up. “How about… you try sleeping at my place?”
Ruan Xingchen hadn’t expected her pitiful act to yield such results. A faint smirk tugged at the corner of her lips as she suppressed her delight and readily agreed, “Sure.”
Hearing Ruan Xingchen’s agreement, Lu Qiyue belatedly sensed something slightly off. But seeing the genuine exhaustion on Ruan Xingchen’s face, she dismissed her doubts.
Never mind—getting Ruan Xingchen proper rest came first.
Half an hour later, the two arrived at Lu Qiyue’s home.
This marked Ruan Xingchen’s second time stepping into this place in six years.
Lu Qiyue handed her a new pair of slippers. “Here, change into these. It’s more comfortable wearing slippers at home. These are brand new.”
Only after passing the slippers to Ruan Xingchen did Lu Qiyue change her own shoes.
Noticing that Lu Qiyue’s slippers were identical to the pair she’d been given, Ruan Xingchen’s lips curved slightly. Her melodious voice carried a hint of amusement. “They’re the same. Are these… couple slippers?”
They were indeed couple slippers. Ever since getting together with Ruan Xingchen six years ago, Lu Qiyue had made a habit of buying household items in pairs so they could match. “Couple items” had always been a sweet notion to her. But now, her cheeks flushed as she denied it. “No, they were on sale—buy one, get one free.”
Lowering her head, Lu Qiyue stared at the slippers now worn by Ruan Xingchen and pressed her lips together. She hadn’t expected these slippers to ever be used by their intended owner.
The feeling was nostalgic, as if they’d traveled back six years—leaving her heart tinged with sweetness.
Lu Qiyue didn’t admit it, and Ruan Xingchen didn’t argue further, simply displaying his rogue side again. “I don’t care. Since they look exactly the same, I think they’re a couple’s set.”
Lu Qiyue truly had no way to deal with this side of Ruan Xingchen, so she changed the subject. “Do you want to take a shower? It’s good for sleep.”
“Sure.” Ruan Xingchen still didn’t refuse, but added, “But I only have this set of clothes with me. I don’t have any—”
Before he could finish saying “to change into,” Lu Qiyue quickly interjected, “I have some here, new ones. I’ll get them for you.”
As she spoke, she headed to the bedroom and soon returned with a set of black striped pajamas, handing them to him.
Ruan Xingchen looked at the pajamas, his eyes brimming with amusement. “Are these pajamas exactly the same as the ones you’re wearing now? Also bought during a supermarket buy-one-get-one-free sale?”
Lu Qiyue’s face instantly turned bright red, and she froze, unsure how to explain.
“If you don’t want them, give them back,” she snapped in embarrassment, reaching to snatch the pajamas from Ruan Xingchen.
Ruan Xingchen raised his hand slightly, dodging her attempt, and laughed cheerfully before turning toward the bathroom. His restless heart still couldn’t resist teasing her. “I’ll take the clothes. Though I wouldn’t mind being naked in front of you, I’m afraid someone might lose their temper.”
That “someone,” of course, referred to Lu Qiyue.
Lu Qiyue really did almost lose her temper.
She was increasingly feeling like she had invited a wolf into her home.
But if she were to coldly kick Ruan Xingchen out? She’d feel too cruel—after all, his insomnia was because of her.
Just then, Ruan Xingchen’s voice came from the bathroom.
“Huh? You didn’t prepare toiletries for me? Well, it’s fine. I can just use yours.”
This rogue?!
