The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 12
Chapter 12: The New Couple
Si Shao pulled Yan Xijing close by the waist and kissed her passionately. In that moment, she felt something different from before.
When the kiss ended, both of them were a little breathless. Yan Xijing wrapped her arms around Si Shao’s waist and said, “I don’t know what you’ve been through these past few days, but I’m willing to try again. But Si Shao, if it doesn’t work out this time, we…”
“I understand. I’ll cherish this opportunity. Please also give it your all.”
“Alright.”
Seeing Yan Xijing agree, Si Shao was overjoyed and lifted her up, spinning her around. The two of them were like a pair of newly-in-love sweethearts, clinging to each other for a long while before finally parting ways.
…
The next morning, Si Shao came early to pick her up.
As soon as Yan Xijing got in the car, she saw a flower and a lunch box.
“I got up early and made this myself. I followed a recipe that’s diet-friendly, so you can eat without worry.”
This was also something Si Shao had learned from the novels—”The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach.”
Yan Xijing smiled and asked, “And the flower? A big CEO like you only brought one?”
“I cut it from our garden. I thought it suited you, so I brought it along.”
“You cut Auntie’s flowers? She’s going to be mad when she gets back.”
Yan Xijing knew Si Shao’s mother well and how much she cared about her garden.
Si Shao didn’t seem to care, “A few missing stems—she won’t even notice.”
“Then I’m definitely telling on you.”
“Then I better cut a few more before she gets home. That way, when I’m blamed, at least I got something out of it.”
Her words made Yan Xijing laugh uncontrollably. On the way to work, the car was filled with laughter.
…
Yan Xijing’s filming continued. Zhao Zelin was still on set, and when he saw her, he came over.
“Miss Yan, Xiaoyu’s condition is stable now. We really have to thank President Si for the help.”
“No need. Just think of it as her doing a good deed. Once Xiaoyu comes back, let’s all have dinner together.”
Yan Xijing had a good impression of Zhao Zeyu—a child both fragile and strong. Heaven had eyes; he deserved a second chance at life.
“Of course. Xiaoyu told me that if everything goes well, he’ll be back next year. Then we’ll definitely treat you and President Si to dinner, and also thank the friends who took care of him abroad.”
Zhao Zelin was deeply grateful. Xiaoyu was his only family left, and he wanted nothing more than for the boy to live—a good life.
“I’ll be waiting for that meal.”
…
As the crew grew more familiar, filming went more smoothly, and they were finishing earlier each day. Several variety shows started reaching out to Yan Xijing behind the scenes, eager to recruit her.
Though she was primarily an actress, everyone knew she could sing well, too. So even music shows were interested, along with lifestyle and entertainment programs.
Because of her rising popularity, any show she joined could instantly become a promotional highlight. The competition among producers was fierce.
Her agent, Yang Xin, dropped a pile of offers in front of her. “Do any of these shows interest you?”
“Nope. You know I don’t like doing variety shows. I prefer filming dramas. But if you think I need more exposure, pick two short-term ones—like single-episode guest appearances. I don’t want the long ones where cameras follow you everywhere. I don’t like living under constant surveillance.”
“Got it, my lady.”
Yang Xin resignedly started sorting through the offers.
As an agent, Yang Xin was undoubtedly successful. An A-class omega, he had worked tirelessly to elevate Yan Xijing from a newbie to a star. But when it came to his personal life, he was more of a mystery. All Yan Xijing knew was that he had a five-year-old son—but never met the other parent. She didn’t know more.
Soon, Yang Xin selected two suitable shows and handed them over. “These two are more relaxed. You can join them to promote your new work.”
“Sounds good.”
Just as they wrapped up, Yang Xin’s phone rang. One glance at the caller ID, and his expression changed.
“I need to take this outside,” he said.
“Okay.”
Yan Xijing was curious about the caller. Normally, Yang Xin was unflappable—even in crises. Who could make him visibly uneasy?
Yang Xin returned in a few minutes, visibly rushed. “I have to go. You focus on filming.”
“Xin-ge, if you run into something you can’t handle, you can tell me. You know I’ll help.”
“Don’t worry. I’ve got this.”
With that, Yang Xin grabbed his keys and hurried off.
…
Yan Xijing continued filming diligently and used her breaks to exchange sweet messages with Si Shao—texting back and forth like a couple in love.
Si Shao realized this kind of romance felt different from before. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what changed, only that it all felt a little sweeter.
That evening, she brought some paperwork she could finish at home and went to pick up Yan Xijing after work.
“Any special plans tonight?”
“Yes! How about street food? I heard new couples love eating at street stalls.”
“Sounds great!”
Though she had tried street food during drama shoots, that had been with a crowd. This—just the two of them—felt completely different.
When Yan Xijing agreed, Si Shao pulled out a hat and a pair of sunglasses. “If you wear these, no one will recognize you.”
“Hahaha, silly. Who eats street food in sunglasses? That just draws more attention. I’ll wear the hat. Don’t worry, I’m not that famous yet. Besides, I’m not wearing makeup—it’ll be hard to recognize me.”
“You’re right. Sunglasses would look too suspicious.”
Si Shao realized novels weren’t always practical—especially not in situations like this.
They dressed casually, parked the car, and walked into the night market. No one recognized them.
Holding hands and walking through the food stalls, Yan Xijing felt a rush. There was a thrill in possibly being spotted—it all felt new and exciting.
“Xijing, that one over there looks good. Let’s check it out.”
Si Shao pointed to a stall selling fancy ice cream while still holding her hand.
