The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Is It Okay to Overthink?
While the two were lining up to buy ice cream, they were recognized—but surprisingly, it was Si Shao who got spotted first.
Although Si Shao rarely made public appearances, some of their CP (couple pairing) fans had sharp eyes. At first, they couldn’t believe it, but after spotting Yan Xijing next to her, they got excited. Si Shao quickly made a “shh” gesture, and the fans refrained from screaming.
Yan Xijing smiled and said, “We’re just out on a date—please treat us like an ordinary couple.”
“Ahhh! So cool!”
“President Si, can we take a picture of you guys?”
Though their voices weren’t loud, they were chattering excitedly. Most just wanted a picture, so Si Shao and Yan Xijing agreed but asked them to wait to post it until later since they still had more of their date to enjoy.
Worried more fans would gather if they lingered, the two bought a few snacks and rushed back to their car.
The ice cream had started to melt. Si Shao took a bite and said, “It’s actually really good. Try some.”
Yan Xijing leaned in and took a bite from Si Shao’s hand. “It really is good. Too bad I can’t eat too much.”
Even though she had a naturally good figure, she still needed to watch her diet, avoiding cold or spicy foods that might affect her skin.
Si Shao smiled. “No worries. Just take a couple bites to enjoy it—I’ll finish the rest.”
“Mm.”
Satisfied, Yan Xijing had two small bites, then watched Si Shao finish it off. Usually, they’d serve each other dishes while eating, but not like this. Normally, if they couldn’t finish something, they’d throw it away. Sharing one ice cream like this felt so new and intimate.
They finished the rest of their snacks, laughing and feeding each other like two love-struck teens.
“This feels like we’re college students who just started dating,” Si Shao said.
“It really does. What’s next? Want to go see a movie?”
“A movie? I’ve got a better idea—how about we try something new?”
“I’m in. Let’s go.”
Yan Xijing didn’t even ask where. Si Shao took her to a VR experience center, where they played games together. The place had tons of options and private rooms, so they could enjoy themselves without worry.
Yan Xijing had a blast, and seeing her that happy made Si Shao happy too. After more than an hour, they left. Back in the car, Yan Xijing was still grinning. Only Si Shao truly got her. Not like that useless Xiao Ran, who once took her to play boring and exhausting badminton. She mentally rolled her eyes.
Si Shao gently tucked a strand of hair behind Yan Xijing’s ear and kissed her forehead. “Baby, are you tired?”
“A little. I want to go home. My mom’s at my aunt’s. Want to come over for a bit?”
“During a date, you’re inviting me over? Can I… read a little more into that?”
Yan Xijing was used to having Si Shao at her house. Si Shao had practically grown up there. But she didn’t expect that playful line.
“What the heck have you been reading lately?” she laughed.
Si Shao looked a little embarrassed but pressed on, “So, can I?”
“Yes, yes. Let’s go. I want to lie down for a bit.”
“Got it!”
Si Shao drove quickly but steadily, and they were home in no time. The housemaids weren’t surprised to see Si Shao, but when she said she wanted to cook, they were shocked.
“President Si, that might not be appropriate. If Madam finds out we let you cook, we’re gonna get scolded.”
“Nonsense. Auntie won’t yell over something this small.”
She tied on an apron and headed into the kitchen.
Since they’d already snacked earlier, they weren’t hungry. Si Shao, who had just started learning to cook, decided on something simple yet nutritious: steamed egg with shrimp.
Meanwhile, Yan Xijing took a shower. When she emerged in pajamas, Si Shao walked into her room with the dish.
They sat in the small lounge in Yan Xijing’s room and started eating. One bite, and Yan Xijing immediately knew this wasn’t their housekeeper’s cooking.
“Is it good?” Si Shao asked, a little nervous.
Yan Xijing rarely saw her like this. Si Shao had always been confident about everything. This side of her was new and adorable.
“You guess.”
“I guess… it tastes great?”
Yan Xijing laughed. “It does. Actually, it’s even better than what our housekeeper makes. No wonder you’re the legendary Si Shao—you really can do anything well.”
That response made Si Shao’s heart flutter. She gently cupped Yan Xijing’s face and kissed her twice. “As long as my baby likes it, I’ll keep working hard.”
“No need.”
“Huh?”
“I know how busy you are. Little surprises like this are enough—I don’t want you to overwork yourself.”
Yan Xijing understood that Si Shao had to cut into her rest time to do these things. Now that they were dating, she wanted to be a thoughtful girlfriend too.
Si Shao was deeply touched. She realized that Yan Xijing might actually be better at relationships than she was, easily saying things that tugged at her heart.
Before she could fully process the warm feeling, Yan Xijing scooped up a bite of egg and shrimp and fed her.
“How’s it taste?”
“Sweet,” Si Shao said.
That answer made Yan Xijing laugh again. “You’ve really changed. You never used to say sweet things like that.”
“Sounds like you prefer the new me.”
“Not telling you.”
By the time they finished, the maid came to clear the dishes. When they were alone, Yan Xijing walked over and suddenly sat in Si Shao’s lap.
Si Shao froze.
Yan Xijing laughed, “Weren’t you the one who asked if you could overthink it? Now you’re frozen?”
“I… I can! I can do a lot. But… really?”
“No permanent marking.”
That answer meant everything except a permanent bond was on the table. Si Shao’s brain seemed to shut down for a moment. Then, without another word, she scooped Yan Xijing up and carried her to the bed…
