Chapter 19: Going to Deliver a Surprise
The next morning, after breakfast in their room, the two of them headed out.
Sī Sháo had chartered a medium-sized yacht for them, and once on board, they set out to sea. They couldn’t go too far, though—they needed to return before dark.
Yán Xījìng held the railing, looking out at the water. She felt calm and relaxed in that moment, thinking about nothing but enjoying it.
Sī Sháo came up behind her, wrapped her arms around her waist, and breathed in Yán Xījìng’s familiar scent, savoring this moment together.
They spent a while enjoying the breeze, then went back inside the yacht, which was fully equipped. Impressively, Sī Sháo prepared a magnificent seafood feast for them.
While they ate, they chatted about everyday life. By evening, the yacht had safely returned to shore.
The next day, Sī Sháo took Yán Xījìng to try many delicious foods and fun activities, then they rested half the day. On the third day, after lunch, they flew home.
On their trip, they took many photos. Once back, Sī Sháo had them printed out and made into an album.
Yán Xījìng shared a couple of photos online. She was happy in a loving relationship—and she wanted everyone to see that.
“Wow, perfect match!”
“OMG! Stop me now!”
“You lovebirds are giving me diabetes!”
Fans flooded the comments. Yán Xījìng laughed; she found them entertaining. Of course, haters made negative comments—but she simply ignored them. Their insults were powerless.
“Xiao Jing, here are some scripts. Choose,” Yang Xin said, presenting several script summaries.
Yán Xījìng looked them over: two romantic dramas, a serious drama, and a sci-fi film—all with appealing roles.
“These look good,” Yang Xin had already vetted them. “You decide which one you like.”
“I’ll go with the sci-fi film,” Yán Xījìng said. “Filming a movie is more relaxed, and takes less time.”
Yang Xin hesitated: “That one has a lot of action scenes—are you sure?”
“I don’t mind action. It’s a fantasy-adventure—great concept, strong character arc. That’s more worth it than the serious drama.”
“Okay then. I’ll finalize it. I’ll notify the production team.”
“Great.”
After rejecting the others, Yang Xin called the movie producers and arranged the collaboration. Their excitement was clear—Yán Xījìng, a big name who never acted difficult, meant investment would follow. This was a sci-fi film, costly in the post-production stage.
Yang Xin later told Yán Xījìng, “You’ll start shooting in three days. In the meantime, I scheduled you as a guest vocalist on a singing show—just one episode.”
“Sounds good. If there’s nothing more, I’ll go.”
Yán Xījìng rarely visited the office, only doing so between projects.
Yang Xin nodded. “Go ahead—you’ll hear from me soon.”
She grabbed her small bag and headed to Sī Sháo’s office. Although she was rarely there, everyone recognized her, making it easy to reach Sī Sháo’s door.
When she knocked, Sī Sháo assumed it was her assistant and called out, “Come in.”
The moment Yán Xījìng entered, Sī Sháo looked up sharply. She set aside her work and walked straight over.
“Why so happy?” Yán Xījìng teased, locking the door behind her.
Sī Sháo scooped her up like a child. “A little! Babe, why did you surprise me like this? You didn’t tell me at all—what was I supposed to prepare?” she asked with playful exasperation.
“I came to surprise you. I’ve been free the past few days—woke up and came straight to keep you company.”
“Perfect.”
Sī Sháo carried Yán Xījìng to her desk and settled her on her lap, unfazed by holding her.
Yán Xījìng watched her working, feeling sleepy. Sī Sháo’s work seemed unbearably dull—how had she endured it all these years?
“Feeling sleepy?”
“A bit. It’s boring.”
Yán Xījìng said as she leaned in to kiss Sī Sháo, and of course, her scent never failed to please.
Caught off guard, Sī Sháo smiled brightly. “Then go nap in the rest room. I’ll finish here soon and then we can go out and wander.”
“Okay.”
After agreeing, Yán Xījìng didn’t move. Sī Sháo understood and carried her to the rest room, gently laying her on the small bed, planting a kiss on her forehead before heading back to work.
Curled up on the bed wearing Sī Sháo’s scent, Yán Xījìng rolled over and discovered a framed photo on the bedside—one of the shots from their recent adventure.
Curious, she checked the bedside drawer. Inside she found a silk scarf, already infused with Sī Sháo’s scent—and, surprisingly, a whiff of her own pheromone. She had no idea when the scarf was brought here. She wrapped it around her neck and opened the second drawer, expecting it to be empty—but it was full! Packed with novels and a small notebook.
She wasn’t much into novels, but she opened the notebook out of curiosity. To her surprise, it was full of Sī Sháo’s notes and summaries—she even found annotations related to their date time: moments she liked or didn’t.
Reading the notes made her instantly alert. This—that was far more interesting than any of Sī Sháo’s tedious work.
