The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Coaxing
Yan Xijing knew Si Shao very well. She understood that at this moment, all she had to do was go along with Si Shao, and her temper would quickly subside. Then, she would be completely safe.
Yan Xijing and Si Shao had been neighbors since childhood. Their families were close, and they had been engaged as children. Now, Si Shao was the one who brought Yan Xijing back to her home.
“Xiao Shao, you’re here! Come in and have a seat!”
Yan Xijing’s mother, Bai Hui, greeted warmly.
Seeing her mother treat Si Shao like this, Yan Xijing grew annoyed. Why should it be like this? Since childhood, she had been told Si Shao was her future partner. She had never even been in a relationship before, and Si Shao had always assumed the role of her significant other. She watched her constantly—leaving her no freedom at all!
Bai Hui, who knew her daughter very well, immediately noticed her expression and guessed she must have caused trouble again.
“What are you standing around for? Look at what you’re wearing. You’re home, so go change. What, do you want to be a celebrity even at home?”
“Oh.”
Yan Xijing rolled her eyes and turned to go change. She didn’t think there was anything wrong with her outfit—a custom red evening gown made to her liking. But she didn’t want to argue, so she chose to go along and change.
She came back out in casual clothes. Bai Hui found it much more pleasing to the eye.
“See? Much better. Xiaojing, you’re 24 now. Isn’t it time to consider marrying Xiao Shao?”
“Mom, I’m only 24. Don’t you think that’s too early for marriage? What young person gets married this early? And after marriage, what am I supposed to do? Stay home, have kids, and become a washed-up housewife?”
When she finished speaking, both Bai Hui and Si Shao froze—especially Si Shao. She had always known how Yan Xijing felt, but this was the first time she had heard it so bluntly. In that instant, she felt deeply embarrassed and hurt.
“Auntie, I’ll head out first.”
Si Shao all but fled in defeat. She could accept Yan Xijing’s temper, even her willfulness, but not her rejection. She needed time to adjust herself before facing her again.
Watching Si Shao leave, Yan Xijing sat down smugly and took a sip of orange juice from the table.
Bai Hui glared at her. “That was too much.”
“Mom, what did she give you that makes you always take her side? Since I was a kid, you arranged our engagement. I didn’t even know anything back then.”
“Yan Xijing, do you think I’m siding with her? I’m thinking of you! A well-bred, decent alpha like her is rare, even if you searched with a lantern. And most importantly, she truly likes you. She’s liked you since you were kids—sincerely. No one else around you can compare to that.”
But Bai Hui’s words didn’t make Yan Xijing reflect. She grabbed another orange and said lazily,
“Mom, there are tons of alphas who like me—sincerely, too. I’m still young. Why should I hang myself on Si Shao’s tree?”
“The banquet tomorrow—don’t you dare upset Xiao Shao again. Or don’t blame me for being harsh!”
Furious, Bai Hui dropped the warning and went back to her room.
Yan Xijing continued casually eating her orange. But in the silence, Si Shao’s pale face flashed through her mind.
Fine, she thought. I’ll make her happy at the banquet tomorrow.
…
Back at home, Si Shao went straight to her room. Yan Xijing’s words played in her mind over and over again. She tried to shake them, but couldn’t.
She even began to question herself. It wasn’t wrong for her to be set on Yan Xijing since childhood. It wasn’t wrong that they got engaged when they became adults. But… was it really right?
Yan Xijing had always been willful, and Si Shao had found it cute—choosing to indulge her. She had taken it for granted that Yan Xijing’s heart still held a place for her. But the things she said tonight… what did they mean?
Si Shao couldn’t make sense of it. She stayed up thinking for most of the night and only fell asleep at dawn.
…
Yan Xijing slept in until noon. After lunch, the gown for the banquet was delivered. Whenever she was attending a formal event with Si Shao, the gown was always arranged by her. All Yan Xijing had to do was wear it, put on makeup, and wait for Si Shao to pick her up. Si Shao usually arrived early to take her for a stroll beforehand.
Yan Xijing followed her usual routine—dressed up and did her makeup. But two hours passed, and with the banquet approaching, Si Shao still hadn’t shown up.
Was what I said last night really too harsh? Yan Xijing didn’t want to think much. She picked up her phone and called her.
Si Shao was still thinking about the words from the night before. She had planned to go pick up Yan Xijing earlier, but her face still looked pale, so she delayed. Then, she lost track of time. It wasn’t until she got the call that she snapped out of it.
“Why haven’t you come to get me yet? Aren’t we going to the banquet?”
Yan Xijing was always direct, and Si Shao had liked that about her.
“We’re going. I’m on my way. Something came up at the company and delayed me.”
“Oh. Then hurry. We’re going to be late.”
“Okay.”
The moment she hung up, Si Shao stopped overthinking, washed her face, changed into her gown, and headed out.
Yan Xijing was already waiting outside the villa. When she saw the car, she even waved.
Si Shao parked and, like always, prepared to get out and open the door for her. But as soon as she stepped out, Yan Xijing hugged her.
She didn’t actually dislike Si Shao—and felt she might’ve gone too far last night. So she decided to make it up to her.
“Baby, I was wrong last night. Don’t be mad, okay?”
Si Shao immediately wrapped her arms around her waist.
“This is how you’re making it up to me?”
“Of course not.”
Yan Xijing leaned in and kissed her.
Si Shao responded naturally, embracing and kissing her back. Maybe she had overthought things, she wondered. If Yan Xijing really didn’t care, would she be like this now?
The kiss lasted so long that even their pheromone stickers could no longer hold back their scents—orange and milk mingled in the air. Si Shao, breathing in the milk fragrance that was uniquely Yan Xijing’s, feared she might lose control and let go first.
“Baby, still mad?”
