The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 21
Chapter 21: Meeting an Old Classmate
“Then sing just for me from now on.”
Si Shao loved listening to Yan Xijing sing, and if it was just for her, even a casual tune was enough.
“Sure.”
For the next two days, Yan Xijing spent her free time with Si Shao. After that, she joined a film crew to begin shooting a new project.
The first few days of filming were very busy, so the two barely saw each other—just a few video calls here and there. Once Yan Xijing’s schedule eased up a bit, Si Shao came to pick her up and take her home.
Yan Xijing was so tired these past few days that she fell asleep as soon as she got in the car. Si Shao felt a pang of heartache but couldn’t do anything about it—this was something Yan Xijing wanted to do, and she couldn’t stop her.
“Sigh…” Si Shao sped up and got her home quickly.
Time passed quickly, and another month went by. Filming was going more and more smoothly for Yan Xijing, and she had time to go on little dates with Si Shao. But after a while, she started to feel a bit bored again.
Si Shao was great—everything about her was—but facing the same person every day for the rest of her life? It felt dull.
Yan Xijing’s restless nature began to stir again.
“小婧 (Xiao Jing), there’s an award ceremony the day after tomorrow that you need to attend,” her manager Yang Xin said.
“Okay.”
There were countless award shows, big and small. Yan Xijing only attended the more prestigious ones. The smaller ones didn’t matter much, even if she won. This particular event was high-profile—movie kings and queens would also be there—so even if she didn’t win, it was good for networking.
Yan Xijing originally intended to just make an appearance, show off her looks, and be done with it. But unexpectedly, at the event, she ran into an old classmate—Wei Feng.
Wei Feng was an A-class alpha, recently returned from studying abroad and now working as a director. He was genuinely delighted to see Yan Xijing.
Seeing an old classmate put Yan Xijing in a good mood. “Long time no see.”
“Yeah. I’m currently preparing a new film—any chance you’d be interested?”
The project was still in the planning phase, and Wei Feng hadn’t settled on a female lead. Seeing Yan Xijing suddenly gave him inspiration.
“You’ll have to speak with my manager, you know how it works.”
If actors accepted work based on personal ties, it could get messy. Yan Xijing had a strict rule: all offers went through Yang Xin. If he approved, she’d consider it.
“Of course. I’ll contact your manager. But since we’re old classmates, even if we don’t work together, we should at least have a meal, right?”
“Of course. I’m free tomorrow afternoon. You?”
“I’ll make sure I’m free—see you tomorrow then.”
Yan Xijing had no other intentions in meeting Wei Feng. She simply thought of it as a casual reunion. From what she remembered, he’d always been witty and charming in school. Many omegas had liked him back then, but he’d kept a respectful distance and always maintained a clean image.
The next afternoon, Wei Feng arrived early at the filming location but didn’t want to disturb her, so he waited outside until she was done.
“Waited long?” Yan Xijing asked, not one to let people wait unnecessarily. She was known for always being on time—one of the reasons she had a good reputation in the industry.
Wei Feng shook his head. “Not long. I had just wrapped up my own work and came over.”
“Let’s go eat.”
“Sure.”
Knowing Yan Xijing needed privacy when dining out, Wei Feng picked a discreet private kitchen-style restaurant with a good reputation. She had even been there before with Si Shao.
“I already ordered some dishes—take a look and let me know if you want to add anything.”
“Alright.”
Wei Feng was thoughtful. He knew actresses often had to be mindful of their diet—avoiding greasy, raw, or spicy food—so everything he ordered was light and healthy.
Yan Xijing wasn’t picky, and the food really was good, so she enjoyed the meal. Afterward, Wei Feng even drove her home.
But just as she stepped inside, Bai Hui, her mother, stopped her.
“Mom, what are you doing?” Yan Xijing asked.
“Who was that who just dropped you off?”
Bai Hui looked very suspicious.
Seeing her mother act like she was guarding against a thief, Yan Xijing sighed. “Just an old classmate. We ran into each other and had a meal. We’re talking about possibly working together on a new film.”
“It better be just that. Xiao Jing, it’s not that I’m forcing you to be with Si Shao. But I watched her grow up. I know exactly what kind of person she is. If you’re with her, you won’t regret it.”
Yan Xijing gave a careless smile. “Mom, how do you know I won’t regret it? I already do, you know?”
“I don’t believe that. All I know is if you miss out on Si Shao, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. I’m your mother—I know you better than you know yourself. If you keep messing around, one day you’ll understand what I’m saying, but by then, it might be too late to fix it.”
“If that day really comes, then so be it. Mom, I’m an adult now. I want to live my life on my own terms.”
Yan Xijing had always disliked being controlled—ever since she was a child. A big part of why she couldn’t fully commit to marrying Si Shao was because she didn’t want to be someone who just obeyed.
Bai Hui sighed. “I know you don’t like being told what to do… Fine, do whatever you want. Your dad and I will always be here. Worst case, you stay home with us forever. You’ll always be our daughter—whatever makes you happy.”
“You’re the best, Mom.”
Yan Xijing leaned in and kissed her mother on the cheek, then ran off to her room.
Bai Hui watched her daughter’s retreating figure and couldn’t help but feel it was such a shame. All the adults hoped the two girls could be together. Si Shao even wanted marriage. But her daughter—rebellious from day one—refused to be told what to do. As her mother, Bai Hui often felt stuck: unable to control her, yet unable to not worry.
Sigh… “Let the kids figure it out,” she thought. “One day, she’ll realize everything her mother said was right.”
As soon as Yan Xijing got back to her room, she called Si Shao for a casual chat—but she didn’t mention Wei Feng. In her mind, it was just work. Wei Feng hadn’t expressed any romantic interest, and not every detail of her job needed to be reported to Si Shao.
