The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 27
Chapter 27: A Disturbed Heart
“Ms. Yan, President Si is here to pick you up!”
“I’m heading off, see you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow, Ms. Yan!”
Yan Xijing glanced at Han Yu waving hard at her and smiled slightly before getting into the car. That Han Yu, really quite adorable—hopefully he finds someone dependable.
“What do you feel like eating?” Si Shao asked, glancing at Yan Xijing.
Yan Xijing leaned back and said, “Up to you. I’ll eat whatever.”
“Then let’s eat at home,” Si Shao said, and drove straight home.
Yan Xijing was drowsy in the passenger seat. She’d had heavy filming the past few days and was truly exhausted. On top of that, Si Shao kept stirring things up, which was annoying.
When they got back, dinner had already been prepared by the housekeeper. Whenever Yan Xijing came over, the meals were always low in oil and salt—something everyone in the household knew.
Yan Xijing was indeed hungry, but no matter how hungry she was, she always ate gracefully, never wolfing her food down.
Si Shao had no real preferences when it came to food—she was happy just watching Yan Xijing eat happily.
After dinner, Yan Xijing headed to her own room to sleep. This time, she planned to sleep in her own bedroom.
Si Shao didn’t push her but simply followed along. If Yan Xijing didn’t want to go to her room, she’d just go to Yan Xijing’s.
Yan Xijing didn’t stop her; there was no point. A thin door meant nothing to Si Shao.
“Xiao Jing, how about we watch a movie?”
“Sure. Let’s go.”
Yan Xijing agreed mainly because she was still upset and didn’t want to just sit around and stare at each other. Watching a movie was better than that.
Si Shao was hoping the movie would be a chance to coax her again.
With different thoughts in mind, they headed to the home theater in Si Shao’s basement. The housekeeper had already set out fruit and snacks for them.
Si Shao chose a comedy. As they watched, Yan Xijing slowly drifted off to sleep. The movie didn’t interest her much.
Seeing her asleep, Si Shao resignedly turned off the movie, then carried her upstairs, helped her bathe, and put her to bed.
Yan Xijing could actually feel Si Shao moving her around. She was just too lazy to wake up and even cooperated a bit. Otherwise, helping her bathe wouldn’t have gone so smoothly.
Si Shao thought this incident had passed like the others before. Usually, all the alphas who tried to get close to Yan Xijing would vanish without a trace. But this time, things weren’t so simple.
Although Yan Xijing didn’t take this matter seriously, deep down she felt responsible for what happened. So when Wei Feng invited her to dinner, she agreed.
By the time they ate, the whole incident around Wei Feng had mostly died down. After all, he was a director, not an actor—public interest wasn’t that high.
“This time, the project’s going to be delayed again because of me,” Wei Feng said regretfully.
“A delay might not be a bad thing. You can polish the script. Once it’s solid, it won’t be hard to attract good actors. As for me, I’ll pass. If you need funding, I can invest.”
Yan Xijing really didn’t want to fight with Si Shao again over Wei Feng.
“Xiao Jing, are you giving in to Si Shao again?”
“This has nothing to do with compromise.”
Although she denied it out loud, she couldn’t help but feel it was true. In her relationship with Si Shao, she was always the one giving in. No matter what Si Shao did, she’d apologize and sweet-talk her, and things would be fine again. That’s why Si Shao always had the audacity to interfere in her life.
“Xiao Jing, your expression says otherwise. Are you truly happy with her? Do you really speak the same language? Can you honestly say you see yourself with her for the rest of your life?”
“I…” Yan Xijing wanted to say “yes,” but the words stuck in her throat. Because she truly didn’t know. A lifetime was so long—how could she say for sure?
“I admit, what Si Shao said was partly right—I do like you. But I’ve always respected your boundaries. We get along, don’t we? I doubt you talk as easily with her as you do with me.”
“She’s not even in the entertainment industry.”
Wei Feng saw that she was wavering and pressed further. “Exactly. She’s not, but she could change for you. Has she ever? Has she changed even a little for your sake? No. She only wants you to stay home, let her provide, and have her children. Isn’t that right?”
Yan Xijing fell silent. Wei Feng had hit a nerve. It was true. Si Shao never supported her acting career. All she wanted was to isolate Yan Xijing from everyone else and turn her into a housewife.
“Xiao Jing, why are you still putting up with her? Isn’t it exhausting? Even if it’s not me in the end, why does it have to be her?”
Wei Feng’s words had completely thrown Yan Xijing’s heart into turmoil. Throughout the meal, she was distracted, and when she got home, she lay in bed dazed and restless.
She had agreed to start fresh with Si Shao, hoping things would be different. But were they?
In fact, it seemed worse than before.
At least in the past, when she went out with other men, she genuinely had some interest in them. That’s why Si Shao got jealous. But now, she had zero feelings for Wei Feng, and Si Shao had still lashed out.
Why? Was her life going to be controlled by Si Shao forever? Would it always be like this? Was that even worth it?
When Bai Hui saw her daughter come upstairs with a troubled expression again, she followed. After knocking and getting permission, she entered.
“Xiao Jing, is something on your mind? You can talk to Mom.”
“Mom, why do you all think Si Shao and I are a good match?”
Yan Xijing rested her head on Bai Hui’s lap, asking the question she had asked so many times before.
“Because your pheromones are a perfect match. And… Si Shao really loves you. As your mother, I just want someone to spoil you for life.”
Bai Hui stroked her hair gently, her movements soft and comforting.
“Then, Mom… why did you choose Dad? What made you believe you two could spend your lives together?”
“Your dad and I fell in love at first sight. But love at first sight isn’t always reliable. We dated for two years before deciding on forever. He proposed—rented a whole restaurant just for us. The moment he brought out the ring, my heart was set.”
