The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 34
Chapter 34: A Strange Atmosphere
“I’m really a bit tired. Dad, I want to rest some more. Can you all leave for now?”
“Alright, get some good rest. Your mom and I will go buy you something to eat.”
After everyone left, Si Shao truly did fall asleep. Si Hengyu peeked through the window to confirm she was really resting, and only then did he feel relieved.
“Now things are better. Xiao Shao has forgotten everything she shouldn’t remember. As for the engagement, it was always just a verbal agreement. From today on, it’s officially void. As for the things you left in our house, I’ll have them all packed up and returned to you. Since you don’t like her, don’t show up in front of her again.”
Si Hengyu’s words drenched Yan Xijing like cold water from head to toe. She didn’t even know how she got home with Yan Yi.
Once home, Yan Xijing became completely silent. Her mind couldn’t think, or rather, she didn’t know where to begin thinking.
Bai Hui had Yan Yi stay back and went into the room to check on her daughter.
The moment Yan Xijing saw her mother, tears poured down her face. She threw herself into Bai Hui’s arms, sobbing, “I didn’t mean to… Mom, I really didn’t mean to… she forgot me… she just asked me who I was…”
As she cried and spoke, Bai Hui gently patted her back and said, “It’s alright. It’s all in the past now. Let it go.”
“Uncle Si said we need to call off the engagement… he also said…” Yan Xijing couldn’t bring herself to repeat the rest of Si Hengyu’s words.
Bai Hui knew Si Hengyu likely didn’t say anything nice—she’d have done the same if she were him. “Xijing, haven’t I always taught you to take responsibility for your own decisions? Do you remember that?”
“But I…”
“Xijing, I may be your mom, but this time it really is your fault. And because I’m your mom, you can cry all you want in my arms now. You were wrong, but it’s okay to feel hurt, to feel sad. But promise me—after you cry it out, you’ll get back up. Do you understand?”
Yan Xijing didn’t respond. She just held on tightly and cried and cried… until she eventually fell asleep.
…
Meanwhile, before Si Shao was discharged from the hospital, Si Hengyu had already ordered all of Yan Xijing’s belongings to be cleared out of the house. Throwing them away seemed inappropriate, so he had them delivered back to the Yan family, and then the entire house was thoroughly cleaned. Only then did he bring Si Shao home.
Back home, Si Shao felt like something was missing in her room, but she couldn’t remember what. She dismissed the thought and went to shower. Her body still reeked of the hospital—she hated the smell.
While bathing, she noticed her toiletries were all apple-scented. The scent felt unfamiliar, but pleasant enough, so she didn’t question it and used them anyway.
Since her condition still seemed unstable, Si Hengyu insisted she rest before returning to the company. He would handle things at work for the time being.
Si Shao didn’t object. She truly was tired and thought the break would do her good.
…
When Yan Xijing received the boxes Si Hengyu had sent over, she stood stunned. Then she had them moved to the guest room. Only when the movers brought them in did she realize how much of her stuff had been in the Si household.
“Mom, I want to go check on Si Shao.”
She still remembered the pale look on Si Shao’s face the last time they met—it haunted her.
Bai Hui didn’t want her daughter to visit Si Shao again. “Sweetheart, Si Shao is being taken care of by her parents. I’m afraid if you go again, Uncle Si will—”
“I’m not afraid, Mom. No matter what Uncle Si says, I’m not afraid. I want to see her.”
“Then I’ll go with you.”
“No need, Mom. I’m not a kid anymore. I can go on my own.”
Seeing how firm she was, Bai Hui had no choice but to agree. As a mother, she had always hoped her daughter could live smoothly and happily. But clearly, that wasn’t going to happen now.
Yan Xijing changed clothes, cleaned herself up a bit, and asked the driver to take her—she was in no shape to drive herself.
Just as she arrived at the door, she ran into Si Hengyu, who was about to head out.
He paused at the sight of her, then pulled her aside. “The doctor said this is likely a side effect of her condition’s peak—she’s only forgotten you. Everything else is fine. Honestly, I think it’s for the best. Don’t you?”
“You don’t have to worry, Uncle Si. I won’t say anything inappropriate.”
“Then go ahead and see her. But remember this—my daughter must never be hurt again.”
The memory of Si Shao on the ventilator still stung for Si Hengyu. His daughter was too good to suffer like that.
“I understand, Uncle Si. I really do.”
Si Hengyu knew he couldn’t stop the two from having contact, and there was no way to completely sever ties between their families. As long as they didn’t get entangled again, that would be enough.
Once he left, Yan Xijing entered the house. Liang Rui saw her but didn’t say anything. Yan Xijing gave a polite greeting and went straight to Si Shao’s room.
The room had been reorganized—there was not a trace of Yan Xijing’s presence left. When Si Shao saw her come in, she was startled.
“Miss Yan, why did you…” Her eyes clearly questioned why Yan Xijing hadn’t knocked.
Yan Xijing had never knocked before when entering Si Shao’s room, and she had momentarily forgotten that now, they were “strangers.”
Just as she was about to explain, Si Shao said coldly, “Miss Yan, it’s best to knock before entering someone else’s room.”
“I’m sorry, I… I’m really sorry.”
“It’s not a big deal. No need to apologize repeatedly. So, Miss Yan, is there something you need from me today?”
Si Shao looked at her with eyes so calm it felt like she was truly facing a stranger.
Yan Xijing couldn’t take that kind of look. She didn’t want to leave, but all she could say was, “I just came to see how you’re doing. I’m glad you’re okay.”
“Thank you for your concern, Miss Yan. I’m fine. My dad’s just worried, so I’ll be taking a few more days off before going back to work.”
“As long as you’re okay… then I—can we have dinner together?”
Yan Xijing had originally intended to leave, but she couldn’t bear to just walk away, so she stayed.
“It’s only right to have Miss Yan stay for dinner. I’ll have the housekeeper prepare something.”
Si Shao spoke formally and promptly had the housekeeper begin cooking. She even asked what Yan Xijing liked to eat. Then she and Yan Xijing sat on the couch with Liang Rui, watching TV together.
The atmosphere was incredibly awkward.
