The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 35
Chapter 35: Miss Yan
If it were the past, Yan Xijing would have acted coquettishly with Liang Rui or ordered Si Shao to fetch her a drink. But now… just sitting there took a great deal of courage.
When the housekeeper finished preparing dinner, at least they no longer had to sit awkwardly in front of the TV.
Si Shao looked at the dishes on the table and frowned. Several of them had a strong milky smell that made her uncomfortable. But since Yan Xijing was there, she didn’t say anything and simply picked from the dishes without the dairy aroma.
Yan Xijing noticed immediately. She watched Si Shao avoid all the dishes she used to love. She didn’t ask anything—she was afraid the answer would be something she didn’t want to hear.
After dinner, Si Shao walked Yan Xijing to the door and went straight back to her room.
Watching her leave, Yan Xijing felt a pang in her chest. In the past, Si Shao would have insisted on taking her home, or wouldn’t have let her leave at all. But now… she couldn’t bring herself to call her back. She didn’t want to be rejected. So she could only return home alone.
Yan Xijing hadn’t called for her driver. On the way home, all she could think about was Si Shao. While she was still on the road, Yang Xin’s call came through.
“Xin-ge.”
Yan Xijing hadn’t had the mental energy to deal with work lately, and she hadn’t contacted Yang Xin since she came back.
“Xijing, you can’t just stop caring about your career like this. You need to at least finish the film. Only your scenes are left now, and the crew can’t delay any longer.”
“Okay, I’ll go tomorrow. The losses these past few days—I’ll cover them.”
Money had never been a concern for Yan Xijing. She had never lacked it.
“Don’t worry about that. I’ve handled it. The crew’s pretty easy to work with. But the rumors between you and Mo Ning—you need to clear those up.”
“Rumors?”
Yan Xijing hadn’t looked at any news lately and had no idea that she and Mo Ning had become a topic.
“Yeah. Mo Ning made this ambiguous statement—it clearly stirred things up. But we don’t need to ride on fake gossip.”
“Got it. I’ll handle it.”
She knew Yang Xin had likely been running himself ragged because of her. She didn’t want to burden him with more small stuff.
“Come back as soon as you can.”
“I will.”
After hanging up, Yan Xijing checked the news. It was just like Yang Xin had said. Her solution? A direct post:
“Fake. We’re just ordinary friends, nothing more than a work relationship.”
With one simple sentence, she cleared the air. And immediately after, the internet crashed.
Not long after she posted it, Mo Ning called. Yan Xijing didn’t want to answer, but some things needed to be dealt with. So she picked up.
“Xijing, are you doing okay?”
She’d expected him to question her, not show concern. That softened her a little. Even if she was annoyed, she answered patiently, “I’m fine.”
“I didn’t clarify our relationship because of you. Si Shao’s father is going to announce the termination of your engagement, and I figured—”
“No need to worry. Even if he makes it public, it doesn’t matter. I don’t need you to be my shield.”
Mo Ning sighed on the other end. “As long as you’re okay. I’ll come visit in a few days.”
“Mm.”
By the time the call ended, she was almost home. Her house wasn’t far from Si Shao’s—walking took less than half an hour.
When Bai Hui saw her daughter return, she greeted her with concern.
“Sweetheart, how are you? Is Shao okay?”
“We’re both fine. Mom, I’m going back to filming tomorrow.”
“At a time like this? Just have your dad sort it out. You should rest at home for a while.”
In Bai Hui’s eyes, filming was trivial—certainly not as important as an engagement.
Yan Xijing gave her mother a small smile.
“Don’t worry. I’m fine. The movie’s almost done. I’ll finish it and then take a break.”
“Really?”
“Really. I promise.”
The next day, Yan Xijing arrived on set on time and filmed diligently. Since only her scenes were left, they wrapped up quickly—within a week.
After filming, she told Yang Xin she needed a break—no jobs for the next two months.
Yang Xin understood and agreed. After all, she had a lot of work already completed, so a break wouldn’t hurt.
But only a few days into her rest, the news broke: the engagement between Yan Xijing and Si Shao had been officially dissolved. The statement was released by Si Hengyu. Neither Si Shao nor Yan Xijing commented, but since she was a celebrity, the news exploded and caused another internet meltdown.
Seeing the statement stirred feelings in Yan Xijing. It would be a lie to say she felt nothing. She had always hated being tied down by that engagement. Now she was free—she should be happy. But why couldn’t she be?
She ignored all the online chatter. She just wanted to see Si Shao. She hadn’t seen her in days. Surely now she could go visit?
And as always—when Yan Xijing wanted something, she did it.
Si Shao was home. But she wasn’t alone—Liang Rui was there, and so was Ruan Meng. The moment she saw Ruan Meng, Yan Xijing’s heart sank.
“Xijing, you’re here. Come in and sit,” Liang Rui greeted casually.
Si Shao was physically recovered, and Liang Rui no longer held a grudge. To her, Yan Xijing was now just a junior—no need to give her attitude.
Hearing the commotion, Si Shao glanced over.
“Miss Yan, it’s so kind of you to visit me again. I feel a little embarrassed. I’m completely recovered now. I should drop by and interview Uncle next time.”
Si Shao was planning to return to work soon, but Si Hengyu was still making her rest a few more days.
As for Ruan Meng—she had been visiting almost daily, and the two were now quite close. Although Si Shao hadn’t expressed any romantic interest, Ruan Meng was clearly trying.
When she saw Yan Xijing, Ruan Meng didn’t show hostility. After all, Si Shao had forgotten everything, and even if she hadn’t, Yan Xijing wouldn’t stand a chance. Neither Si Hengyu nor Liang Rui would ever allow someone who’d hurt their daughter back into her life.
Yan Xijing struggled with how distant and formal Si Shao had become—but all she could do was force a bitter smile.
“It’s no trouble. We’re friends, after all. I’ve just been busy with filming these past few days and didn’t have time to visit.”
