The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: Just Realized
“It’s just about mealtime. Since you’re already here, Miss Yan, why not stay and join us for dinner?”
Si Shao said politely.
Yan Xijing was feeling terrible inside, but she didn’t want to give up the chance to have dinner with Si Shao, so she agreed. This time, the four of them sitting together was even more awkward than last time.
The only one who wasn’t uncomfortable was Ruan Meng. She picked up a bite of food for Si Shao and said sweetly, “Sis, try this. It’s really delicious.”
“You eat it yourself. I’ll get my own.”
Si Shao replied, though she still ate the food Ruan Meng gave her.
Ruan Meng’s intentions to pursue Si Shao were clear as day. Watching her, Yan Xijing felt an overwhelming discomfort. She suddenly realized that Si Shao was not someone who only had eyes for her. Si Shao was so kind, so outstanding—there were countless people who would want to be with her. It was only because of her—Yan Xijing—that Si Shao had rejected everyone without hesitation in the past.
Yan Xijing had no appetite at all. Just watching Ruan Meng look at Si Shao with such affection already filled her with unbearable jealousy.
Right now, to Si Shao, Yan Xijing was nothing more than a stranger. So she couldn’t sense the emotional turmoil inside Yan Xijing. Throughout the meal, Si Shao didn’t even glance at her once.
But Liang Rui noticed everything. After the meal, she called Yan Xijing aside for a private talk.
“Auntie…”
Yan Xijing had always liked Liang Rui. But now, things were different. She couldn’t act like nothing had happened and sweet-talk her like before.
“Xijing, have a seat.”
Liang Rui gestured kindly.
Once she sat down, Liang Rui continued, “Actually, your uncle and I have always supported you two. Until recently, we thought you would definitely get married. You know we’ve always treated you like our own daughter. Just… this time, your uncle spoke a little harshly. Don’t hold it against him.”
Yan Xijing’s nose turned red with emotion, but she held back her tears and replied, “I’ve never blamed Uncle. If I were in his position, I would’ve reacted even worse. It’s me who doesn’t know how to ask for your forgiveness now.”
“Si Shao’s been examined—her body’s fine, so we won’t blame you anymore. But the doctor said clearly that she can’t take emotional stress, especially anything related to you. That part of her memory, it was her own choice to forget. She chose to completely erase you from her life. Do you understand?”
“I… I understand.”
Yan Xijing knew exactly what that meant. She also knew Si Shao was angry at her—that’s why she’d chosen to forget her. Otherwise, how could she have only forgotten her and no one else? Even someone like Ruan Meng, whom she’d only met a few times, she still remembered.
“Xijing, people have to move forward. Si Shao has to, and so do you. As for the news about you two, your uncle will take care of it. It won’t affect your career. But when he returned to the company, he found this.”
Liang Rui handed over a thick stack of documents.
Yan Xijing took them and started reading. The more she read, the more shocked and heartbroken she became. “Auntie, all this…”
“It looks like Si Shao did all of this behind your back. But for the sake of drawing a clear line between you two, your uncle has decided to rebrand Si Shao’s company. From now on, that company won’t be supporting just you anymore.”
“I understand. Thank you for telling me all this. I’ll go home now. I’ll come visit you and Uncle again another day.”
“Alright.”
Yan Xijing left Si Shao’s house with those documents in hand, like she was escaping.
How could this be? All this time, she thought Si Shao didn’t support her becoming an actress. But ever since her first day on set, Si Shao had quietly supported her behind the scenes. In fact, her very first role only landed in her lap because of Si Shao’s efforts. And yet, she had always believed it was her talent that got her picked.
Later, as she gained more fame, she thought she was attracting investors on her own. But in every project she’d worked on since her debut, Si Shao had been involved. She’d never paid attention to who the investors were—so she never knew Si Shao was among them.
Si Shao did all of this, yet never told her. To her face, she only urged her to quit acting—which led Yan Xijing to misunderstand her for so long.
Someone who said they didn’t support her, had silently supported her with everything they had, all along. Without her, Yan Xijing’s career in showbiz would never have gone so smoothly.
But… why didn’t she say anything?
Tears she had been holding back finally fell.
Yan Xijing cried all the way home. Seeing her daughter’s tear-streaked face, Bai Hui was alarmed. “Baby, what happened?”
“Mama…”
Yan Xijing handed the documents to Bai Hui. One look was all it took for Bai Hui to understand everything. She let Yan Xijing lean on her shoulder, patting her back and comforting her.
“Xijing, I told you before—Si Shao is your best choice. Without her, you’ll regret it. So… do you regret it now?”
“I…”
“It’s alright. Even if you lose Si Shao, you still have me and your father. We’ll love you twice as much.”
Although Bai Hui was heartbroken for her daughter, she also wanted her to learn from this. That’s why she said what she did.
Now, Yan Xijing truly understood—but the more she understood, the more painful it felt. Now she realized her own acting was never really that good—because none of the grief she had ever acted out could compare to what she felt at this moment.
After crying on her mother’s shoulder for a while, Yan Xijing returned to her room. She washed her face and, after calming down, called Yang Xin.
“Xin-ge, did you know about Si Shao supporting me in secret?”
“Of course. President Si has always backed your career.”
Yang Xin had assumed Yan Xijing already knew. That’s why he never quite understood what she was thinking when she acted out sometimes. But thankfully, she’d never crossed a serious line, so he hadn’t asked too much. Now that things had reached this point between her and Si Shao, he was powerless—he could only help manage the media storm.
“Xin-ge, you should rest too. Spend some time with Xiaorui.”
Yan Xijing had no interest in the media frenzy about her and Si Shao. She just wanted rest. She needed time to think, and to figure out what to do next.
“Alright. Don’t worry about me. Just take care of yourself.”
Even though he hadn’t seen her in person, after working with Yan Xijing for so long, Yang Xin could picture exactly how she looked now. She must be in a terrible state.
“I’ll hang up now. Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay.”
