The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Decision to Pursue
Yan Xijing wanted to sleep, but no matter what she did, she couldn’t fall asleep. So she went to look through the things that had been returned from the Si family. Everything was so familiar — each item had been bought by Si Shao and was convenient for her to use.
She hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but now, seeing them again, she realized how thoughtful Si Shao had been.
Was it really going to end just like this? Yan Xijing felt a bit unwilling. She had considered breaking up, yes — but they shouldn’t have ended things this way. And then there was Ruan Meng — seizing the opportunity while someone was down. Who knew what kind of person she really was? What if she was just after the Si family’s wealth and power? The more Yan Xijing thought about it, the more convinced she was that she couldn’t let Ruan Meng go after Si Shao without doing anything.
So what if she had to pursue someone? She could do it — way better than Ruan Meng. Hmph!
The more she thought about it, the more fired up she became, and before she knew it, she had already called Si Shao. By the time she realized what she was doing, the call had already connected.
Seeing “Xiao Jing” on the caller ID, Si Shao paused for a moment, but still picked up.
“Miss Yan?”
“Don’t keep calling me Miss Yan. We know each other so well — just call me Xiao Jing.”
Since she had decided to pursue Si Shao, she had to make some changes. The first was how Si Shao addressed her. What’s with this cold, distant “Miss Yan” nonsense?
“That’s not really appropriate, is it? Maybe we were close before, but now I—”
“I know you don’t remember me. If you don’t, then let’s just start over, right?”
Hearing Yan Xijing say that made Si Shao feel a bit awkward, but she couldn’t bring herself to reject her. She knew the Yan and Si families were close, and she and Yan Xijing couldn’t avoid crossing paths.
“My apologies for forgetting you, Xiao Jing.”
“It’s fine. Let’s keep things casual. If you really feel sorry, how about treating me to lunch? Just the two of us — what do you think?”
Yan Xijing really didn’t want to see Ruan Meng again. Even though Si Shao hadn’t accepted Ruan Meng’s advances, watching someone clearly interested in Si Shao cozy up to her was just unbearable.
“That works. I’ll send you the address.”
“Okay.”
If this had been before, Si Shao would have definitely come pick her up. But now… forget it. Being able to eat together was already a big deal. Yan Xijing didn’t want to push her luck. It was just a restaurant — she could find her way no matter where it was.
Because of the lunch date, Yan Xijing went out of her way to dress up. Si Shao used to say she didn’t need makeup in front of her, but now things were different. She had to win her back. No makeup? No way. If she didn’t dazzle Si Shao, how could she succeed?
Just as she finished getting ready to leave, her mother Bai Hui stopped her.
Yan Xijing had no choice but to pause. “What is it? I’m going out to eat.”
“With whom?”
“Si Shao. I just invited her to lunch. Is something wrong?”
Seeing how nonchalant her daughter was, Bai Hui felt uneasy. She knew her daughter too well.
“Xiao Jing, you—”
“Mom, don’t worry. I’m an adult. I know what I’m doing.”
“Sigh… fine, go then. Be safe.”
“Mm.”
Bai Hui knew better than anyone that there was no stopping Yan Xijing once she set her mind to something. If her daughter actually listened, things wouldn’t have gotten this complicated.
Yan Xijing drove to the place Si Shao had mentioned and arrived early, so she ordered their food ahead of time — all the dishes they used to love. Not long after she finished ordering, Si Shao arrived.
Si Shao thought she had arrived early, but didn’t expect Yan Xijing to beat her to it. And today, she looked noticeably different from the last time they saw each other at home.
“You’re here! Sit here.”
Yan Xijing pointed to the seat next to her.
Si Shao didn’t really want to sit that close, but as an Alpha, it wasn’t polite to reject an Omega so bluntly, so she sat down anyway.
“I already ordered. If there’s anything you don’t like, just add more.”
“Okay.”
While waiting for the food, Yan Xijing kept staring at Si Shao. It made her uncomfortable, but she didn’t say anything. She just silently decided that she should avoid eating alone with Yan Xijing again.
“Do you like Ruan Meng?”
The sudden question caught Si Shao off guard. But she quickly shook her head.
“No. Why?”
“No reason. If you don’t like her, you should reject her early. Don’t let her get the wrong idea and waste time chasing you.”
Sure, it wasn’t very nice to talk about someone behind their back, but Yan Xijing couldn’t help it. Even if Ruan Meng wasn’t much of a threat, she didn’t want her hovering around Si Shao.
Just as she finished speaking, the food was served — perfect timing to avoid any awkward follow-up.
Looking at the dishes being laid out, Si Shao frowned.
“What’s wrong? Don’t like the food?”
“Yeah. I don’t like light food. Let’s order something else.”
She then added two heavily flavored dishes for herself.
Seeing how uninterested Si Shao was in the food she ordered, Yan Xijing understood — in the past, Si Shao had eaten these kinds of dishes only to accommodate her, to find more common ground with her.
Now that she didn’t even remember her, there was no reason to do that anymore.
“Sorry. I just can’t eat bland food.”
Si Shao knew it was impolite, but she couldn’t force herself — the dishes didn’t look appetizing at all.
Yan Xijing had enough professional training as an actress to hide her disappointment. She just smiled and said,
“My bad for not asking first. Next time, I’ll check with you before ordering.”
The mention of “next time” made Si Shao hesitant to respond — she hadn’t planned on another one-on-one meal.
Seeing her remain silent, Yan Xijing understood her thoughts, but she didn’t feel discouraged.
“By the way, when do you plan to return to work?”
“In a few days. My parents won’t rest easy otherwise.”
Si Shao didn’t feel like she had any problems anymore — she was mostly doing it for her parents’ peace of mind.
“Got it.”
“…”
The two of them chatted sporadically while eating, and before long, the meal was over and it was time to go.
Yan Xijing didn’t want to go home just yet, so she asked,
“Wanna go for a walk? You’ve been cooped up at home for days — don’t you feel bored?”
“I’m fine.”
