The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 39
Chapter 39: Rejection
“You can’t keep doing this. And there’s no need for you to keep pursuing me.”
After saying that, Si Shao got out of the car without looking back at Yan Xijing.
The place wasn’t far from Si Shao’s home, so she walked the rest of the way.
As for Yan Xijing, all of her courage had been used up moments ago. She simply didn’t have it in her to chase after Si Shao again. She was afraid that if she got rejected one more time, she’d lose all confidence in pursuing her.
After taking a few deep breaths, Yan Xijing returned home.
That evening, Si Hengyu came to the Yan household and asked to speak with Yan Xijing.
She had already expected this, so she calmly brought him into the study for a conversation.
“Uncle, I didn’t notify the media about having dinner with Si Shao. We must’ve just been spotted by chance. Don’t worry, I’ll be more careful in the future—this kind of thing won’t happen again.”
“I’m not a stubborn parent, Xiaojing. But you can’t treat her this way. Do you know what happened? This time nearly cost her half her life. I’m afraid if this keeps going, my foolish daughter might lose her entire life. So, Xiaojing, I’m begging you—please let her go.”
Si Hengyu didn’t want to see Si Shao break down again, so this was the only thing he could say.
Yan Xijing’s expression shifted slightly, but she still responded, “Uncle, don’t worry. I won’t let her get hurt again. But I also don’t think we should be separated like this.”
“I understand your unwillingness to let go. But you don’t really love her. It’s just that you didn’t initiate the breakup. Think of it as pitying her. She’s already been through so much—don’t make things harder over something so minor. Let her go, alright?”
Si Hengyu tried not to be too harsh—after all, he’d watched Yan Xijing grow up. But since she still wanted to get close to Si Shao, he had to stop her.
It was harder for Yan Xijing to take in this soft, pleading tone than if he’d scolded her directly. If he’d been harsh, she could’ve fought back. But now, with him being this gentle, she had no room to refute.
“Uncle, I really do love her. That’s why I don’t want to give up.”
“That’s impossible. If you really loved her, this wouldn’t have happened. Xiaojing, I’ve lived through a lot. I know exactly what you’re feeling. You’re just having a hard time accepting it now. Give it time—you’ll forget her eventually.”
Yan Xijing: “…”
She didn’t know how to refute that. She felt like what he said was wrong, but no matter how she tried to respond, her words felt weak.
Si Hengyu thought her silence meant he’d gotten through to her. “Xiaojing, in a few years when both of you have moved on, you’ll understand what I meant.”
“Uncle, I understand. I’ll think about it.”
After Si Hengyu left, Yan Xijing returned to her room and cried quietly.
Over the next few days, Yan Xijing didn’t go looking for Si Shao. But Ruan Meng continued visiting her house every day. Si Shao wanted to ask her to stop, but Ruan Meng never brought anything up directly, so she had no way to reject her.
With no other option, Si Shao first talked to Si Hengyu, then went back to work.
She hadn’t been to the company for a while and thought she’d need time to adjust—but surprisingly, she got right back into the swing of things without any trouble.
Now that she was back to work, Ruan Meng couldn’t see her as often. Feeling anxious, Ruan Meng went to talk to Liang Rui.
Although Liang Rui felt more gratitude than affection toward Ruan Meng, she still treated her with patience.
“Xiaomeng, this is between the two of you. I can’t get involved. You’ve seen Si Shao these days. When it comes to these things, she won’t listen to me. You’re still young, so maybe…”
“But Auntie, I like Sister Si Shao. Any omega would be drawn to an alpha like her. I don’t want to give up.”
“But there’s nothing I can do. How about this—ask her to meet with you. Just talk things through directly. You young people know how to handle it.”
Liang Rui could tell that Si Shao had no feelings for Ruan Meng, so she decided to leave it to her daughter to sort things out herself. She wasn’t going to interfere with their young love drama.
Ruan Meng agreed, but was too embarrassed to ask Si Shao directly. So she asked Liang Rui to help.
It was a small favor, and Liang Rui agreed. After speaking some kind words, she sent Ruan Meng off.
A few days later, Si Shao and Ruan Meng met outside for a meal. The restaurant had been arranged by Liang Rui—they just had to show up.
It was Ruan Meng’s first time seeing Si Shao alone. She was so nervous her palms were sweating.
Seeing this, Si Shao said, “Let’s order first. Get whatever you like.”
“You choose. I’m fine with anything.”
“Alright.”
Lately, Si Shao had been into spicy and heavy-flavored food, so she went ahead and ordered what she liked. Just hearing the dish names made Ruan Meng realize she probably couldn’t handle any of it.
Most omegas preferred lighter flavors—only a rare few didn’t. Ruan Meng clearly wasn’t among them.
Once the food arrived, Ruan Meng could barely eat. She only picked at it, drinking lots of water.
After a few bites, Si Shao said, “Ruan Meng, I know what my mom is hoping for by having us meet, but we’re not a good match.”
Ruan Meng hadn’t expected her to be so blunt. Her face instantly turned red. “Why not? You haven’t even tried.”
“Because I know we’re not right for each other. It’s better not to try—I don’t want to waste your time.”
Si Shao didn’t dislike Ruan Meng, but she didn’t feel anything for her either. If she did, she would’ve felt something long ago after all the time they’d spent together.
“Is it because of Yan Xijing?”
“No. If I’m not a good match for you, then I’m even less so for her. I’ve thought about it—what I want in the future is someone independent, someone I can truly talk to. Whether they’re a beta or an omega doesn’t matter.”
Si Shao had thought this over thoroughly. Everything she said to Ruan Meng was the truth.
“But…”
“I’m really grateful that you came to help me during that time, but I didn’t actually need your help in the end. Still, I remember the favor. If you ever need anything, come find me.”
Si Shao’s words were so clear that Ruan Meng knew there was no point in continuing. Si Shao would rather return the favor than be with her. That said it all. She wasn’t going to humiliate herself any further—she wasn’t lacking admirers.
Ruan Meng held back her tears as she left. Si Shao didn’t go after her. Since she had no intention of accepting her, she didn’t want to give her any false hope either.
Looking at the full table of food, Si Shao simply continued eating. She had work in the afternoon, and needed a full meal to keep going. The food suited her taste perfectly.
